Gary is the best refrigeration repair person I have ever met. When our refrigerator section got too warm, I remembered using General Refrigeration (owned by Gary) back in 2024 when he responded quickly and was here less than 10 minutes and was able to tell us what was wrong (faulty control board) and what it would cost to replace it. He had to run to his shop for the part, but within an hour or so, it was all fixed for a fair price. Fast forward 2 years and the same refrigerator/freezer had a similar problem. Within 5 minutes, Gary diagnosed a different component that had failed (the thermostat), quoted his price (again, a fair price), and had it repaired in less than an hour. Even though he worked fast, he took the time to clear out all the ice that had accumulated behind the back wall of the freezer so it could go right back in service without delay. Above all, Gary is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. read more

Gary is everything you expect and appreciate in a service person-He's on time, great w communication, honest, and offers fair pricing. He fixed an issue on the fridge that came with the house 10+ years ago, and recently fixed a minor freezer issue on our current fridge. Both times he took less than an hour, and fixed the issue! Highly recommend! read more

I called General Refrigeration Service Co because my refrigerator was not cooling right and the freezer had some ice build up. The technician came during the time window, checked the fridge, looked at the fan and a few other things, and explained everything pretty simple. I also noticed he put covers on his shoes before coming in, which was nice because we have rugs by the entrance and I really don't like dirt on the carpet. The job took a little longer than I expected, but he did not rush and he cleaned up after himself. After the repair the fridge started getting cold again and it has been working good since then. The price was fair, maybe not the cheapest, but I rather pay for it to be done right. Overall good service and I would call them again. read more

Called Gary, he responded quickly and came to fix my refrigerator quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended.

My 30 year old fridge suddenly stopped cooling and the food in my freezer was starting to melt, so I needed someone ASAP. I called Gary, explained the issue, and he was at my house within an hour. He quickly diagnosed the problem and, luckily, had the replacement part in his truck, so he fixed it on the spot. The fridge is running like new again! The price was very reasonable, and the fast, professional service was well worth it. Highly recommend! read more

Had a fridge that was leaking out the bottom of the freezer. Our repair tech is the same guy that answers the phone. He showed up on time and was done in 30 minutes. Everything is working fine again and the price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this company. read more

We have used Gary several times over the years and his work is excellent. He knows Subzero's inside and out! He responds right away, his prices are always reasonable, and his knowledge vast. He has replaced our condenser and just recently replaced our defrost motor. Gary is honest, and lets you know how to keep your subzero maintained to last many, many years! Our old subzero refrigerator was not cooling sufficiently. Gary was able to come immediately. He assessed the problem in minutes and had the replacement part with him. It's cooling properly now. Reasonable cost. I recommend him. read more

My freezer stopped cooling properly, so I called Gary. He previously repaired a motor issue for us in 2018. He was extremely kind, professional, and very reasonably priced, so I didn't hesitate to call him again this time. He came out right away and fixed the problem in about 20 minutes. If you need refrigerator repairs, I highly recommend him !! read more

My refrigerator broke on the Friday before Easter. I left a message and Gary called first thing Monday. He was able to diagnosis the issue over the phone and quoted me a price for the part and service. That was Monday. He called me Tuesday afternoon and said he was nearby and could fix it. He arrived a few minutes later, installed a new control board, programmed it and it was fixed within minutes. Now runs better than ever! The price was very reasonable. I am so relieved as this fridge is in a tight space and the new models won't fit. Not to mention how expensive they are. I highly recommend Gary! Best way to contact him is call or text his mobile phone: (925) 932-6366 read more

Very nice honest guy and efficient! I highly recommend Gary. He is very knowledgeable and will teach you.

Such amazing and helpful service that you don't always find these days. I spoke with Gary on the phone asking about my broken ice machine and rather than just scheduling a time to come out, he took his time to ask questions, ask me to check some things, and send him some photos. In the process of doing that, we were able to identify the problem and fix it right there without him needing to come out! Gary is an ethical and knowledgeable person who I will certainly be calling again for any refrigeration services I might need one day. read more

very competent, calm, professional. He and his assistant did the work very well and quickly. Worth the money.

Gary came out within a day's notice and replaced a light switch in our refrigerator that was causing the refrigerator to overheat and malfunction. The replacement was quick, effective and at a reasonable cost. Our refrigerator is restored to good working order. Thank you Gary for a job well done. read more

Incredibly friendly, expert knowledge, quick diagnosis, and patient explanations! If you have choices to make about a repair -- parts, quality, things to fix now vs watch for later, etc -- Gary lays out all the details and stands by his work. Thankful to have such a great local service! read more

I thought our fridge was dead. Gary solved it in literally 5 mins on the phone with me. Didn't ask for any money. Who does that anymore? Apparently this guy! read more

The good guys. Were honest with me when my fridge died. I got a new one and am happy now.

Gary was absolutely wonderful. My refrigerator is over 20 years old and I bought a new one, but they refused to deliver it because they said it would not fit my space. So I ran across Gary's phone number from my neighbor and we opened up the back and he took out a large screwdriver and placed the tip on the compressor and the plastic handle end next to his ear and he says, "Nope it's not the compressor". Then he said it must be the motherboard. Gary went to his truck and he happened to have THE MOTHERBOARD for this 20 year-old refrigerator.!!! In my eyes he performed a miracle. Thank you,Gary. read more

I was convinced that I was days from my refrigerator going kaput, so I was so pleased to have quick, incredibly genial service from this expert. What a joy of an experience. Thank you. I only try to review of if I can give 5 stars, but wish there was a 5+ option here. read more

My neighbor needed help when her refrigerator stopped working. On the day after Christmas I looked on Yelp & found General Refrigeration & called. Gary arrived very quickly. He was such a nice fellow & he had the problem diagnosed and fixed in a jiffy. What a lucky find for my neighbor (& for me in case of future need for refrigerator issues). If we could give him more than 5 stars we surely would. read more

Gary's amazing. I've called twice for completely separate issues and he came out and resolved them both same day. He's fast and effective and absolutely saved me a ton of time and money. I will not hesitate to call him again and I can't recommend him enough for any one having fridge issues! read more

There aren't enough positive words to express my gratitude toward Gary and General Refrigeration. My son called to tell my that our refrigerator had quit cooling and that there was water under it. I called another service first to tell them that my Kenmore Elite refrigerator had quit working. They were kind enough to refer me to Gary, saying that he was an "expert" with these. The folks that I called did have a strong 5-Star rating as well, so I felt the recommendation was solid. After calling Gary to explain the problem, he told me that he would be there within the hour. Wait, what??? Really! While I see reviews where other company's did not even return their calls, Gary was there as promised. Friendly, professional and stocked with parts. I really can't say enough for someone that so values their customers. I would without hesitation refer anyone to General Refrigeration Service. read more

Excellent prompt service, fair price for initial assessment, and very knowledgeable service techs.

I've had Gary out twice. Awesome service at a reasonable price! He is always friendly, knowledgeable and fast. More than that, I trust him to give me the straight story on what needs to be done. And if something doesn't really need fixing, he'll tell you so. He also tosses in some tips on how to store things to save energy. He clearly knows his refrigerators! read more

Gary was referred to me by another reputable repair technician who does not service Frigidaire, the brand of the refrigerator that we had problems with. It was certainly a vote of confidence by his peer and sure enough, as soon as I described to Gary over the phone the problems and whether it's worth fixing a 4.5 year old refrigerator in this situation, Gary immediately knew that it could be easily fixed and he ended up charging us the minimal charge. It's great to know expert and honest people like Gary who we can count on for future repairs. Highly recommend General Refrigeration! read more

Gary just left. Our refrigerator is fixed. This problem has been going on for months. Our usual plumber ID'ed the problem but couldn't fix it. Gary did in less than an hour. Reasonable rates and great, professional service. Highly recommend. read more

Gary has serviced two prior refrigerators, a first-gen SubZero (horrible!) and a first-gen GE Monogram (a little better). But because these over-priced behemoths were headaches, we switched to a Kitchen Aid from the old Galvins in El Cerrito (RIP) about a decade ago and have never had a problem, until... Long-story short: returned from Thanksgiving trip to find the bottom freezer frozen over like a winter in Fairbanks before global warming. My wife immediately said let's buy a new one, it's time. But I remembered Gary. After one short cell phone call (he was enroute to help another customer), and a couple of follow-up texts, he not only diagnosed the problem but quickly walked me through the fix. I'm no Mr. Fixit, but Gary's advice and guidance was spot on. I texted him a photo of my work mid-stream and he graciously text me tips to make my task easier and to prevent mishap. I would not call anyone else for refrigerator repair. Says someone who never (or hardly ever) takes the time to write a reviews. Gary is still special after all these years. read more

Having a trust worthy car mechanic, gentle dentist, and a consistent hair cut is one of those things you never let go once you find it. Fridge/appliance on the fritz? Gary is your GUY!!! He was able to diagnose our fridge problem over the phone on a Friday. And despite a laundry list of appointments, make time for us first thing Sat morn (off hours...so don't call on Sat please :) Hopefully won't have to ring him back soon. But if I do, have all the confidence knowing the first problem of finding a repair guy's fixed. Thanks again Gary read more

My freezer was working but my fridge wasn't, and Gary opened the freezer and knew exactly what was wrong in like 3 seconds. He swapped out a motor right then and everything works now. He said the replacement motor for this particular model works better than the original. It was great to have someone so familiar with refrigerators that he would know that. read more

I'm not a customer of General Refrigeration, but I called Gary enough to bug him that I owe him a great review! I have a vintage camping trailer with a 75 year old refrigerator. It just stopped working and I called all over town to find someone who could diagnose the problem and either recharge or repair it. I couldn't find anyone who would work on it, including General Refrigeration. However, I also couldn't find anyone who could even speak intelligently about the issue I was facing other than General Refrigeration. Gary took time out of his day on several occasions to help clarify how the system worked, how it is evacuated, how much torque the pieces should have, etc. He shared his personal phone number with me so that I could text photos to him so that he could provide better feedback. In the end I wasn't able to work with General Refrigeration or anyone else on the repair or restoration, but I greatly appreciate the time that Gary spent helping me. read more

I contacted General Refrigeration because my ice maker went out on my Samsung fridge over the weekend. Gary left me a voicemail the next business day letting me know the technology with Samsung is constantly changing and he wasn't sure if he was up to date. He advised me to contact Samsung directly for a authorized technician to come out. I really appreciated Gary's honesty and integrity for being straight up. He could've easily cost me time and money unnecessarily. Although, I didn't actually do business with General, I wanted anyone considering them to know this. read more

Gary is THE BEST! We noticed out fridge wasn't cool enough 2 days before having to go out of town. A few places we called didn't have availability for days. We called General Refrigeration at around 9am. Gary arrived at 11:15am and had our fridge up and running, good as new, before noon. Holy moly! He is extremely professional and has a great attitude. He will definitely be our go-to if we run into any future issues and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone who's looking for someone that is knowledgeable and efficient at fridge repair. read more

At one point, this owner was extremely good at his business. These days I am not so sure how to characterize the problem. The two times he has made in-home visits, he has down played the problem with my refrigerator and while pleasant, did not want to do a deeper dive into assessing what the problem was. Rather, he brushed the problem off by recommending I defrost the refrigerator. And while I expressed reservation, he did not offer to investigate further. BTW, I was not a one-time customer. I have used this business for several years. In fact, I started using this company a few years into having purchased my refrigerator. So the owner had a history with me and my appliance. My better instinct told me to get a second opinion, and I did. And I was right, the next company found the source of the problem and confirmed a much needed repair. The Gary I once knew, would have done the more intensive diagnostics. One might reasonably argue that maybe he felt from his experience that all the refrigerator needed was a minor tweak (in fact the unit that produces ice needed replacement). But having a history with the appliance and knowing how old it was, the possibility of something more serious should have been considered. I also indicated I'd pay for his time. So money was not an issue for me. I eventually used the second company to repair the refrigerator and they were excellent (and noticed that they consistently receive 5 stars). So there are a few takeaways from this experience with the owner: #1. He truly believed it was a minor problem and offered a simple solution #2. He didn't have the time to inspect the issue........ or the one which would make me pause to call him again: #3. He didn't take additional steps to get to the root of the problem or at the very least, rule it out. Two stars for the owner being very pleasant and responsive as other yelpers note. I agree with them. read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Gary is my new go-to guy for Refrigerater repairs. He is brilliant, creative, and a pleasure to work with. He solved my problem (which couldn't be solved by two other companies in 4 separate visits) in no time flat. My freezer was icing over because the door wasn't closing properly. And the door wasn't closing properly because the ice scoop was backwards preventing the door from fully closing. The previous repair people needlessly replaced the seal, the sensor, and the Freon, all to no avail (except the second company managed to break a spring in the door). Gary shows up and fixed the problem by turning the ice scoop in the other direction. Gary is the best there is. And did I mention that he responded promptly, and came to my house very quickly?! (I had to wait weeks in between appointments with the two other companies.) Gary has my confidence, my loyalty, and my gratitude. read more

The water dispenser suddenly stopped working. Check Warranty: phooey! six months out of warranty. What to do? Call Gary. He talked me through and in a few minutes helped me solve my problem--two days ago I installed a new water filter, flushed the system per instructions, and water/ice seemed to be working hunky dory. 36 hours later the water dispenser started making a loud noise and water flow dropped to a dribble. Next morning I tried reinstalling the filter, figuring that was likely my trouble source. Didn't help, in fact, was worse no noise and no dribble water. Arrgh. Call Gary. He talked me through in 5 minutes. Turns out that filter needs to be pushed in REALLY hard--had to close its little door with the heel of my hand--really shoved it. Magic. No more noise, water flows again. Thanks so much Gary. As many say no nonsense just excellent speedy service. read more
