Had a review for Scott up about 2 years ago, but somehow it got deleted. I think he's very deserving of good reviews so I wanted to re-post it: Scott came by to fix our washing machine. The machine was filling with water and wouldn't drain--the drain pipe was clogged. I didn't formally meet Scott today, but my roommate did and she said Scott did a 10/10 job! The price was low, he came right on time, and he even gave us some future advice. Scott noticed that our washing machine door is a bit jammed. So he gave us a tip on how to successfully close the door every time. The door needs to be smacked really hard on the top of the door. He also warned us that we have a gas dryer, which emits carbon monoxide. So when we use our dryer, we must always ventilate the apartment. Rlly good to know! read more

Scott providing excellent service on our DCS stove and was very affordable. Over the years, our stove kept developing problems with the ignitors. They would keep clicking even when lit, or would fail to light. The Big Box store warranty team had no idea what they were doing, so over the years, they came out and replaced the electronic control board several times. It was a very complicated repair, and only solved the problem for a few months at a time. Then, we had more skilled appliance service companies come out, and they carefully dismantled and cleaned the ignitors. They got them working, but said it was too complicated and would not come back out. Two years, and of course some spill-overs later, the stove needed the same, precise cleaning. Scott came exactly on time, and did an exceptional job doing a very detailed and precise cleaning in half the time/cost of the prior company. My review here does not apply to Scott's ability as a fix-it guy. This is not something I can comment on as our appointment did not go through. Rather, my issue is his lack of professionalism in scheduling. We had reached out to Scott regarding an issue with our washing machine. He responded with a video, but being the un-handy people that we are, my husband and I requested an in-home appointment to repair our washer. Scott agreed, and we scheduled for a week later, as he had nothing available on his calendar. During the week I had to lug all of our laundry to the laundromat (I know, first world problems), so by the time the weekend came we were looking forward to our Monday appointment. My husband also took the day off so that he could make Scott's availability in the mid-afternoon. The night before our appointment, Scott emailed to ask for our address, which we advised was in Alameda. Mind you, when we booked the appointment, his coverage area indicated El Cerrito, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Alameda. Scott then responded that he doesn't cover Alameda, and that he wouldn't be able to service our machine. When we advised him that his Yelp profile included these cities as coverage areas, he said that he would need to change that to reflect only El Cerrito and Berkeley. That's it - no offer to make an exception since the appointment was made the prior week, no explanation as to why he didn't confirm our location when making the appointment, no apology for the time off that my husband had to take from work to make his appointment - nothing. The only upside is that Scott did offer us two referrals who may have availability the next day (hence the 2nd star). Thankfully for us, they were both responsive and we ultimately selected a fantastic repairman based out of Walnut Creek to come by the next day. I took a couple days to think about it. And then I called Scott. Scott fixed everything for less than $100. Scott is friendly and knowledgeable, fair and professional. So I contacted Scott by email to find out his availability. He instead provided me with info that allowed me to save a ton of money and fix the problem myself. I honestly cannot think of a more honest thing a repair person could do! Seriously... While he could have told me that it was too difficult to repair myself (and it wasn't easy), he instead helped me figure out what the problem was. I researched the part online and ordered from a parts shop that allows returns. I told Scott I would attempt the repair and if it didn't work I would need his service. He said no problem and keep him updated. Thankfully it worked! Other technicians said they couldn't come out for weeks and would charge a minimum of $250 for 1 hour of work, plus the cost of parts. Scott is the most honest repair guy I have ever interacted with. In his email he asks if his help works then to please donate to his coffee fund. Which i happily did. Read negative reviews here closely and look at the number of reviews the person has done in total. In Scott's case, they should be ignored as sniveling whiny jerks who want blood from a turnip. Scott rocks, seriously. A few weeks back I had a god awful screaming dryer. A local repair company (who I will not name) took a look at it. They poked around for a few minutes and confidently told me I would have to have to replace the entire dryer drum! A very very expensive job. Thankfully I had already done some research, learning this is not a common solution. Sensing some scammy behavior from their diagnosis, I started emailing Scott for his opinion. He immediately knew what the problem was with the appliance. Scott seems like a nice person, but the way he handled my case was disappointing. I called him to repair 2 appliances; my washing machine and my stove. He was 30 minutes late to the first appointment, but I didn't think much of it at the time. He diagnosed the washing machine immediately and sent me a link with the part to order. He found the problem with the burner and tried to fix it, but after an hour or so, told me he didn't have the right tool and would have to complete the job when he came back to fix the washer. For the follow-up appointment, he suggested a 3:30pm time 10 days out and I agreed. I left work early to make the appointment, but unfortunately Scott NEVER SHOWED. I emailed to ask what had happened and a few hours later he replied, "Sorry I missed you." (Missed me? No - I've been here waiting since the scheduled time.) He offered another time: Saturday at 6pm. Not exactly ideal, and besides, I already had plans. I replied saying that I would appreciate him fitting me in ASAP since he was a no-show to our appointment and that I needed an earlier Saturday slot or a future late afternoon appointment. He replied with the phone number of another repair person. Bottom line, I wasted 2.5 hours of personal time at work, and I paid $75 for a visit in which 0 of 2 appliances were fixed. As a single working woman, I do not appreciate the lack of respect for my time. 2 stars - as opposed to 1 - because he did show up for the first appointment and diagnosed the problem with the washer correctly. read more

My Bosch dishwasher was not draining and I tried some quick DIY fixes but had no luck. He mentioned that I lived outside of his service area but also proceeded to give me a detailed set of instructions to troubleshoot my dishwasher's problem. My dishwasher wasn't draining properly, so my husband tried to take a crack at it...but after several weeks of doing the dishes by hand, he finally agreed to let me call a repairman. I called Scott and left a msg. I received a call back and discussed the situation. He suggested that I take a look at several spots because there maybe something obstructing an area essential for draining. Sure enough, there was a minor blockage that was very easily removed by myself (not the handiest person in the world)...and the dishwasher is fixed! I'm so impressed with Scott's honesty. Scott seems to be a good and decent man and, more importantly, he seems to know what he is doing. We've got an old Kenmore fridge that basically conked out. These units generally last for 12 to 14 years and this one, at over 15 years old, was on its last legs. The thing is, as home owners, we're constantly prioritizing necessary expenses around the house and the fridge took us off-guard. We already have to replace the friggin' oven, so this additional expense would have been something of a burden. Thankfully Scott dropped by and breathed life into this thing for a 135 dollars. Before he came, it only leaked when the rubber tubing wasn't hooked up right. Now it leaks all the time. All the time. A cereal bowl full of water each cycle. As a young female living by herself I'm always hesitant to hire repair guys to come into my home. I've had many experiences where they try to rip me off or are creeps. I had another local repair business send someone over to give me a price on repairing my dryer and he quoted me $500. He was obviously thinking that I was some kind of idiot who would buy his BS. I bought the entire washer and dryer stack for $200 used. It kills me that in this day and age people still try to profile others this way, especially women. An absolute must in your contact list, especially if you don't know how to fix anything and need a person who won't cheat you. Scott is a great appliance repair guy. He assisted my wife and I in repairing our old 34 year old Whirlpool clothes dryer. The dryer was starting to make a very loud and noisy banging sound. I was ready to replace it. However, we have sentimental feelings for our washer/dryer combo, as they were originally owned by my parents. At any rate, I contacted Scott after seeing his Yelp reviews. I chatted with him about the problem and he had me video the dryer while it was operating. After sending the video to him, he diagnosed the issue very quickly. Turned out to be worn out rollers inside the dryer. Scott came out with new parts and quickly repaired the dryer. It works as if new! He also looked at our old (50 year old) Kitchen Aid dishwasher, which we haven't used in over 25 years, and tested it and got it operating. Came back in a couple of weeks to put new door springs on the dishwasher door. It operates very well now. Finally, he did a quick test of our Whirlpool direct drive clothes washer (34 years old) and proclaimed it to be in good operating condition. Scott is not only a very knowledgeable repairman, but what we like about him are his professional and courteous and demeanor and comportment, as well as his "bedside manners" in explaining appliance stuff to us. He likes to communicate via email, and is timely in his responses and patient in his replies to questions. Finally, his pricing appears to be very fair and reasonable. I immediately give five stars to any professional contractor that provides detailed free advice that solves the problem -- knowing that this successful advice is actually preventing him from getting a paid gig. That's exactly what Scott did in my case. I emailed Scott last night about a range hood blower that had stopped turning. Based on my description, Scott diagnosed the probable cause, gave me detailed instructions on how to potentially remedy it, and his advice enabled me to partially disassemble the unit and get it working again.
