He was punctual, knowledgeable, kind, and reasonably priced. An all-around win! Months later I had another problem (I moved the stove to paint a wall and knocked things out of place). I called Matthew who patiently walked me through the process of locating reset buttons and adjusting misaligned tubes, fixing my issue over the phone, right there and then. We have an O'Keefe and Merritt that has repeatedly suffered small gas leaks. We are avid cooks living in the fire-prone hills, so this has been an especially hazardous situation. I was aggravated, for we have had the range serviced several times, yet every year or two, new gas leaks would appear. I was getting ready to give up on having a vintage range, for though I had been promised that it was built like a tank and would work forever with maintenance, I was tired of paying for nearly annual visits to address new fails, each time after wondering for a couple of weeks if I was imagining the gas smell before calling PGE to verify that yes, I am smelling gas. On this visit Matt came out to fully address the repeated fails, far more thoroughly than my previous experiences. He ensured that quality parts were utilized, that the knobs were rigged so that they wouldn't cause fails, and ingeniously weighted the oven door so that it will stay fully open or shut; previously springs had been upgraded, but after a few months the door would creep partially open, so that oven temp couldn't be maintained. The stovetop and oven work better than they ever have in our 13 years of living here - the knobs turn smoothly, the gas comes out more fully and cleanly, the oven holds temperature, and best of all, no more gas leaks, and I believe that this time the repairs will hold, since Matt was so thorough. Matt said that he will stand by his work and ensure that this range continues to operate safely, which I appreciate, since I realized that at this time I'd really rather not have to re-wire the kitchen to accommodate an induction range. read more

We rent a house with a wonderful 40s/50s Wedgewood. We've had Matt and his associate out twice to fine tune it. Matthew came out and did a phenomenal job repairing a 1940's stove that had been out of commission for over a year. He is very knowledgeable, thorough, kind, and great to work with. The stove is now working beautifully, and I'm confident that will continue for a long time. I've tried other general stove repair technicians in the past, and the repairs have never lasted. If you have one of these old stoves, it's worth it to hire a specialist. Just one caveat, he is EXTREMELY expensive. We're talking lawyer prices -- $75 every 15 minutes. And that's on top of $265 just to show up. Be sure to get an estimate -- I didn't and regretted that terribly. You can buy a new modern stove for less than what having one repaired by this guy will cost you, but if you love your antique appliance, want it done right, and can afford it, Matthew is your man! read more

when my grandmother passed (many years ago) - the other grandkids wanted furniture or jewelry. Nope, not me. I wanted her stove. They all thought I was nuts, an appliance? why? Reliance just rebuilt our 1953 Wedgewood stove. They replaced rusted pieces, rechromed our griddle, reporcelined the top, reinsulated the oven and broiler, and cleaned it from top to bottom. It shines! When they picked it up, they left a smaller loaner stove. They quoted a 20-25 week process to make all the repairs and it was returned exactly 21 weeks later. Sau, a long time employee adjusted our burners. We want one turned all the way up for wok cooking, and one turn very low for low simmering. He also turned off the burner pilot lights, at our request, to save gas and to reduce heat generated when the stove is not in use. These old stoves were really built to last. Ours lasted over 65 years before needing some love. We expect it to outlive us and perhaps our grandchildren too. Thank you for the love and care! read more

I would rate a BIGGO ZERO if available as we were excited about finding this business needing to either have our 1960's O'Keefe & Merritt stand alone all gas stove refurbished or replaced. However, although we had extensive discussions, e-mails, and texts with him giving estimates for both options, setting up an appointment across SF Bay from us to check out his recommended replacement (old refurbished Wedgewood), Matthew forgot about the appointment and went golfing without telling us. A wasted trip, and such a failure, made it too sour for us to deal with him. We recd an e-mail a couple of days later with an apology and another quote for the Wedgwood. That really clinched to release Matthew for good as his price increased another $1000, although he would "drop off $500 for our trip for his failed appointment"! We advised he check his prior quotes and this current quote to see what another big mistake he just made and requested he not contact us ever again! read more

This is our 1953 O'Keefe & Merritt stove that was special-ordered by my husband's grandmother from Hink's Department Store in Berkeley, CA. We still have the receipts from the sale. We were gifted with this stove for our 2004 wedding. We decided to remodel our kitchen and the first task I took on was to call Reliance Appliance to ask about reconditioning the stove. Matthew came over and evaluated the stove. His guys took it away and then came the waiting. Four months later, the restorer, Sal, and his son, carefully positioned the stove into its pride of place. It is so incredibly gorgeous that my husband and I are thrilled beyond words. Matthew and his employees couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. Truly excellent in every way. Matt knows everything about Wedgewood stoves. When I got mine some 12 years ago, it had issues. Matt came out and tuned it up for a very reasonable price. Now, one of the two ovens had been out for a bit and then the second one went out. I can't tell you how happy I was/am to see he is still serving us. I have a 1950s Wedgewood stove that came with my house when I bought it. One day, the oven gas stopped flowing. I called someone else who thought it was the thermostat, so they had to try to find a replacement part. Meanwhile, I also contacted Reliance Appliance who came the next business day. He fixed in like 10 minutes. Turns out, it was a dirty thermocouple that he simply cleaned and replaced -- not the thermostat at all. Repair or replace? That was the dilemma involving our mid 50's Wedgewood stove that was tossed in with the purchase of a used refrigerator over 40 years ago.
