Ample seating, no wait. Heard this place was very popular in China and glad to be able to try it out here. How to eat here: Get a bowl with tongs and choose what you want. Not every ingredient has a tong so there maybe cross contamination if you are allergic to anything. Get it weighed. It's $18.99 per 100 g Choose broth base or you can get it as a dry pot. I choose the mushroom broth and it was very flavorful so much that I didn't need to go the sauce station to make my own sauce. It was a tad salty though so the white rice helped. Rice is free by the way. I did try the spiced veggie at the sauce station and it wasn't super spicy. It was good but not my favorite. Cashier was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Overall, I recommend people come and check it out if they are in the area.

This is a casual, well-priced, hot pot restaurant. You get the ingredients yourself. The ingredients are so fresh, and there is a good selection. The staff are kind and very helpful. I highly recommend!

Build-your-own malatang at $3.99/100g, plus there are snacks, skewers, desserts, and drinks options. I love the concept of customizing your bowl to your taste palette, they had variety of options to choose from and at least 9 different broths. My personal favorite being either tomato or pickled cabbage broth (as someone who can't handle spice). The Szechuan broth is their most popular but also comes in 3 different spice levels. The place has a good amount of seating and is great for the winter! Super comfy and delicious!

If you love hot pot, but want to try an individualized quicker experience, while still being able to pick out exactly what you want, this restaurant in East Village is the spot for you! You get to choose your own broth that everything gets cooked in which allows the meats and veggies to soak in all the flavor. They even have a sauce station for you to make your own sauce and your hot pot meal comes with a bowl of white rice. Payment is based on the pound, so you can control how much goes into your hot pot too! There's a lot of seating inside and the food was ready in roughly 10 minutes. It wasn't a long wait!

Sanku Maots'ai is a nice causal spot where you can build your own malatang or dry pot. They offer a wide variety of fresh ingredients, and you can pick your preferred broth before paying by weight. The sauce station has a good range of options, and they provide complimentary rice and appetizers (which includes shredded potatoes and pickled vegetables). The flavors were excellent overall, though it is a tad bit spicier than my personal preference. Service was quick and efficient, and our food came out without much wait. All in all, it's a great choice if you're craving something quick that's both flavorful and customizable.

Sanku Maots'ai offers a blend of the DIY malatang and individualized hotpot experience. Upon entering, one chooses amongst a selection of fresh ingredients, opts for a broth type, pays by the pound, at which point a chef cooks the food in the broth of choice. Sanku Maots'ai offers a nice array of sauces and even two appetizers, including spicy shredded potato and pickled radishes and carrots (slightly spicy). The raw ingredient selection was good, but not as extensive as at YGF Malatang on Third Ave.. Nevertheless, they had the essentials, ranging from various fish balls, offals (e.g. beef tripe, ears, intestines), tofu types (skin, fried, firm), quail eggs, chicken, basa fillet, mushrooms, green leafy vegetables (romaine, spinach, watercress, parsley, Chinese cabbage), bamboo, corn, taro, pumpkin, noodles (potato starch, instant, rice cakes), and many others. The broth selection is also more extensive than at YGF Malatang. For my toddlers, we went with the light three-fresh hearty broth, while I ordered the spicy gingery tropical golden broth. My husband got a "mild" Szechuan broth, which was still very hot! Although the broths were all good, they were all oily. We did not finish them. Sanku Maots'ai charges $18.99/pound, whereas YGF Malatang charges $15.99/pound. That said, it is nice that they offer the free appetizers and even free bowls of rice. Service was friendly and efficient, seating was ample, the two bathrooms were clean, and the overall environment clean and comfortable. The restaurant does offer high chairs. My kids loved choosing their own ingredients, and it was great to see them select items they normally wouldn't eat if served to them, such as offals and taro. My husband loved his spicy Szechuan broth. Overall this was a hit, and we would definitely return.

A fully customizable dry hot pot and Sichuan-style hotpot restaurant opened in the East Village. It's actually a super popular chain from Chengdu, China with over 4,000 locations worldwide and this is their very first U.S. outpost, so I had to give it a try. The concept is great, you pick from a huge variety of fresh ingredients yourself, and the food is priced by weight ($3.99 per 100 grams) so it's easy to get carried away. You also get to choose your spice level along with either a broth or stir-fry base (dry hot pot). There's even a sauce station, though I barely touched it since the dishes were already so flavorful on their own. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal but thought it was a bit expensive.

If you love hot pot but don't have anyone to go with, problem solved! You chose all your toppings and then pick your own broth and they will prepare it for you (similar to a mala pot). They also have a make your own sauce bar. The only thing is that because they charge you per weight, it becomes incredibly expensive very quickly. The benefit is that since it's in the east village at least there aren't a lot of other competing hot pot spots nearby. I'd come again because I love hot pot but it's not necessarily bang for buck or insane quality.

Newer spot that opened up in the area! I think it's a popular chain from overseas. Place is very clean and modern, which I appreciate. They give you a table first based on availability and then you go ahead making your bowls. I absolutely love the whole concept and flavor profile, nothing beats picking and choosing exactly what ends up in your bowl and paying for what you get. Only small concern from me was that the place was fairly busy, therefore the time from when we handed over our bowl to when we got it back to eat was a pretty long wait. As pictured we just loaded 1 bowl and shared between 2 of us! SOO yummy. Definitely giving YGF Malatang a run for their money haha. Will definitely come back.

We came here on a weekday and got seated pretty quickly. This place is DIY hotpot where you choose your own ingredients. We got the tomato and the sichuan special. The tomato mala tang was pretty good. The tomato flavor was really nice and flavorful. The sichuan mala tang was a bit disappointing. It pretty spicy and numbing but it was lacking in flavor. Overall, a decent malatang place to grab a quick meal.

Everything was really fresh and reasonably priced. My bowl came out to $20 and I was satisfied and full. You build your own bowl and seat yourself. My partner got the signature and I got the mushroom, both were really good! I think having a mix of both would be good, so I recommend going with someone else. I tried my friend's tomato broth and it wasn't nearly as good as the mushroom, the signature, or Hai Di Lao's tomato (for reference).

Changed my mind - went back a second time, got less fish balls and got a delicious bowl for a reasonable price. I'm a fan, especially with the winter months coming, this place would be amazing on a cold day.

I love hot pot and this style where you can pick what you want in it via buffet style choices so couldn't wait to come here. It's a fairly new place. Very clean inside. I went with the Rich Tomato Broth and my husband went with the Three-Fresh Hearty Broth. My broth was a little lukewarm but I was too hungry to ask for it to be heated hotter. Both broths had a nice flavor. The buffet choices were great! Very versatile for meat eaters and vegetarians. When I asked the cashier for the lemon tea w/ no sugar he warned me it would be too bitter so advised I have it w/ some sugar in it. I did 50% and enjoyed it. Happy he was able to tell me that. There were some labels missing so you either had to guess or just go with it since it was busy when we went. Other than that, I would come back for a quick bit to eat. Informal setting.

For their…read moredinner menu, you can do AYCE hotpot and bbq for ~$43pp, which also includes appetizers and some drinks. For alcoholic drinks, such as soju and beer, you can add ~$7pp for AYCD. The tables are spacious and the place is bright. We ordered a variety of meats and veggies for hotpot and bbq and it was alright. The hot pot is definitely better than the bbq as the meat quality was too fatty for bbq. Moreover, because they don't change the grills, the oils from the meat just pool onto the grill and the meats get really oily to eat after a while. We also got the fried chicken, spring rolls, and fried buns apps and I thought that the chicken and buns were good but the spring rolls were okay. The only thing I would have to say is that the service isn't the best. Although they are kind, half of the things we ordered never arrived or we had to constantly ask them to bring it out/check on our order.

I loved this place!…read more I came here on a late Friday night, probably around 8pm and was glad that they were still opened. We were greeted very welcomely and was seated right away. It was unusually cold in NY during this time (5/23/25) and initially we were seated by the door where we would catch the cold draft every time the door opened. We asked if we can switch seats and the waiter was more than helpful. I feel bad for not getting his name, because he was very helpful throughout the entire dinner service, but, I've been walking around in the cold all day and the only thing that was on my mind at that time, was a nice warm meal. I've done a lot of Chinese hotpots and this was the first that we get the soup and grill without a price difference. The selections were typical, some may say less than other places, but, I felt that less was better. When there is too much to chose from, you don't know what to pick or pick too much. The one thing that I did missed was fresh tofu. They had a variety of tofu but not fresh tofu. But, I probably shouldn't waste my stomach space on tofu for and AYCE, anyway, lol! We opt for an non-spicy and a spicy soup base. If you are like me and do not like mala (numbing spice), I would not recommend getting a spicy soup base. Even my cousin, that does like mala, said it was a little overbearing after a while. If you do love spicy, like me, they have a condiment station to make your own sauce and have several chili options to chose from that is not numbing spice. For the price and selections, I feel that it was very satisfying. I really enjoyed their homemade peach and kumquat lemon tea; but, order fast because once it's gone, you are out of luck! The place was clean and the noise level was average. I think this is the best Chinese hotpot place that I have experienced in USA and would definitely go back!

If there's a fee, it should be clearly included upfront -- not added later as a "convenience fee" or forced extra charge per person. Pretty large with a variety of table spaces and sizes. Everyone we interacted with was friendly. Service was good and they were pretty busy but it was only felt in my drink being delayed from the bar (placed before we ordered any food but showed up only after food arrived. Husband's beer arrived super fast though fwiw) My only gripe is the menu on the iPad thing - there are no descriptions of anything (including cocktails). We kept trying to click stuff on the iPad to see the description, but it was adding it to the cart. It would be great if there were descriptions, so you could see more detail about each item before you order (at least for the cocktails). We ate à la carte but the AYCE was starting while we were there and it looked pretty dope. Lots of good stuff laid out in large qty. All in all we will probably add this to our hotpot restaurant list and will return again.
