My roommate is the biggest fan of Hunan Slurp! We went in a group of 5 and we called ourselves the slurpers. Though a bit pricy, the food was so incredibly flavorful, and was, as all Hunan food should be, perfectly paired with the rice. We had the cauliflower, the intestine and quail eggs, pork trotter, the noodles, the green pepper fish, and crispy beef. The cauliflower ans pepper fish were my favorites!! I think the pork trotter was also very good and authentic. Pork trotter was surprisingly light and not too heavy! I don't like intestine, but it was pretty solid for what it was. The noodles were pretty mediocre and the crispy beef I did not like. Crispy beef was too salty and the texture was a bit strange because it was crispy 卤菜 which is a weird combination.

Service was good, food was good, and the restaurant was filled with Asians speaking mandarin. This to me means the Chinese food is authentic. Cannot wait to come back to try their signature braised noodles.

If you're craving authentic Hunan cuisine in New York, Hunan Slurp is worth the trip. The dishes aren't just spicy -- they actually carry the depth, smokiness, and wok-fired flavor typical of real Hunanese cooking.

Tofu bolognese mi fen

We really loved the classic Lu fen and tofu bolognese mi fen. Nice selection of beers from Hong Kong as well. one had sichuan peppercorns, another was brewed with puffed rice. Service was so so but the food is good enough to ignore that aspect.

This place is amazing! I kept walking by this place on my way home from work and finally decided to try it a couple weeks back. I LOVE the food here! I loved it so much in fact that I actually went back again literally two days later to show my friends! This is the first place in NYC where I actually went back right away instead of mentally putting it away as a "revisit before I move" location. I think I was so compelled to re-visit because the noodles are SO GOOD! I ordered the pork & green pepper the first time, and the spicy beef the second time. They are the right balance between soft and chewy, and they absorb the flavor of the broth so well. At the end of the meal I kept digging around frantically for more noodles until my fingers cramped, and I knew I had to come back to have more of them. I also ordered the chicken with green peppercorn which I really enjoyed. Fair warning -- it was very Sichuan-spicy, and honestly more on the numbing side than the spicy side (although it was still very spicy as well). The flavor was amazing. I would definitely order it again in the future! The one complaint I have about this place is that the wait time for the noodle soup is extremely slow. I think we waited around 30min maybe the second time we went there? The first time, the noodle dishes came after everything else, but we didn't really notice because we got other dishes first. So it's not a quick-bite type of place -- you need to have some patience. But I promise it's worth it!

The food was really good !! A lot of flavor in every dish and a great variety of things to choose from they even customize the heat level to cater to you which was perfect definitely a cute place with pretty decor

My second time was actually much better than my first experience. Besides the photos we also had the boneless duck feet and a braised winter melon dish. The chicken is definitely my personal favorite, we ordered medium spicy but think that we could probably go up a bit more. It's also great for taking the leftovers home and make noodles with it. The soft tofu rice noodles were flavorful, on the saltier side. The texture of the tofu made the noodles extra silky. The pickled string bean one could use more soy sauce, we just added the soup at the bottom of the chicken dish to the pickled string bean rice noodles and it tasted much better. Service and speed of service was much faster this time around, we last came here in 2021. And the kitchen had clear glasses so you could see into the actions. I think the only part is that the chairs aren't the most comfortable and it's only stools instead of chairs for the communal table towards the entrance of the place, those are really tough to sit in for a long time... but food is good!

I always walk by this place, and have made many mental notes on how I need to try it due to the inviting cozy-modern architecture and the crowd who frequents here. They were a Michelin guide recommended restaurant in 2020 and 2021, not sure what happened last year smh. I honestly don't know how that works at all so I could be so ignorant on that. I walked in without a res one evening and was seated immediately. Table for 1 perks. Menu is completely digitized, which has become my major gripe post pandemic but I get it. The menu is a bit confusing on how to navigate and could be improved. I got the Slurp Classic Lu Fen, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The perfect amount of kick on the spicyness level and just an overall phenomenal combination of flavors. I don't even know how to categorize this noodle dish, but I loved it. There is no broth it is just like a noodle based bowl. I have overdosed on ramen a bit and this was a great switch up.

Flaming Frog

Came here for lunch at recommendation of friend owing to its appearance in the Michelin Guide albeit they do not have a star, just to clarify. We arrived at the tail end of lunch of a Saturday so the place had emptied out but fortunately that meant no waiting for tables or food to arrive. Everything was quick. Food was very good, though I would say I was completely blown away by the quality. I did enjoy the meal as the dishes were flavorful. Duck Tongue - probably one of the better options, though it could have been a little more salty. Spicy Frog - delicious, great spices used but didn't have the tingly green peppercorns which was fine. Shredded Potatoes were alright, just a plain side dish. Rice Noodles were very good. Overall the food and atmosphere are very nice. A bit more upscale than most other Chinese places.

Pepper and Pork Noodles

What a horrible experience. I walked in with a friend on a Sunday afternoon without a reservation, but was promptly seated. Their menu was digital, which you access by scanning the QR code, and you would order online via their webpage. The webpage is terrible. It is not clear what is in each dish or what it even tastes like. Some items were listed but actually not available and the irony is that in the end, a waiter came to take our order in person. It was fairly busy, so a short was to be expected. However, I waited over 20 mins for my order to come, after my friend got his. By that point, he had pretty much finished. What frustrated me about this was that someone came in around 10 mins AFTER we ordered and sat nearby. He ordered, ate and left before I got my food. I will not be coming back.

Fish Fillet
Josephine L.

They don't serve stinky tofu anymore!!! *Sob* That was literally the only reason I came here. The rice noodles are whatever. I've eaten countless bowls growing up at half the cost of HS (and twice as much flavor). My Fish Fillet was bland, even when I asked for it to be as spicy as possible. And the Shredded Beef bowls--which were promised to be super "Asian" spicy--were tepid at best. Sigh. At least our server sort of made up for it with super-generous pours of wine. But seriously? Why succumb to the peer pressure of removing stinky tofu from your menu? If people can't handle the smell of fermented soy beans, that's on them. Sigh. There really is no stinky tofu in Manhattan anymore.

Mala Duck Tongue
Alex Z.

Michelin guide restaurant is definitely feels more upscale when you walk in, the design is very nice and modern, the service was great, we came right before they closed the kitchen for lunch at 2pm on a Saturday but the food actually came out really fast. If you can eat spicy I recommend just go for the spicy option, I picked the medium was not spicy enough for me for all the dishes. The duck tongue is a little lack of flavor taste like newly cooked didnt soak in the sauce long enough to take the flavor. The liver is fresh and good portion. Most of the dish are a bit pricy, we had 3 dish one app one noodle cost $160 that's very expensive for this cuisine.

Kailyn L.

Came here around 7pm on a weekday and got seated relatively quickly. We got the pickled string bean rice noodle and the duck. The pickled string bean rice noodle was solid. The broth is fairly light while the picked string bean was packed with flavors. The duck was delicious too. However, the serving size is quite small relative to the price. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, but beware of the small serving size.

Got off the E train and when we looked for Chinese food, this place popped up with good reviews and it was just a short walk from where we got off the train. My buddies ordered the special lunches and we also got two types of xlb's, beef chow fun, and some fried dumplings. The special lunches come with a little fried rice, cold garlic flavored noodle, choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and main side. My buddies all enjoyed their meals. The beef chow fun was also really good and beef was nice and tender. The xiao long baos were excellent and is comparable to any place in California like DTF. Nice and juicy and great with some ginger, soy sauce, and spicy chili. Friendly service and food comes out pretty quickly. Credit card is accepted. Bathroom was also very clean, which is sometimes rare in some Chinese restaurants I have been to. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, stop here when you're in the Chelsea area.

I hadn't been to EDH in a while and was happy to see they do have later hours (with a smaller late night menu). The place was pretty busy at 10:00 PM last Saturday, with a wide range of diners, which is good for business. The food though, at least that night, was really disappointing. My friend had the chicken dumplings. He said they were okay. I thought they were overcooked. My steamed shrimp shumai were fine, but steamed, they didn't have much flavour. The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Then we got a handful of apps - everyone else swore by all the ones they'd had - but I just tried the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and... sweet baby Jesus, this little plate had a wicked amount of flavor from every angle.  "Aggressively seasoned" might be an understatement.  Wild. Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. And indeed, there was a rope up separating it from the front dining room. There was a table of people sitting there, but I was told that was management having a meeting. I asked when the room might be opened because we were willing to wait. I was told that there was no way for them to know. The front room was already full, by the way, except for the table that we seated at. Within 10 minutes, the back room opened and people started to go in. When I asked about this, I was told that it was a private party. About a half hour later I got up to use the restroom and had a look in the back. They were people seated at tables all around the room. It was obvious that none of them knew each other. It wasn't a private party. I didn't bother to ask about this because at that point appetizers had arrived and it was too late to move to another table. I was very baffled by the staff's reluctance to seat us at a requested table, which would've been very easy to do. As a result, I don't think I'll be coming back to Chi or recommending it to friends.
