Side note: They are also here under https://www.yelp.com/biz/mr-fish-new-york-2 Possibly Mr. Fish should be added to their name Tl;dr version: If you are here solely and want a smaller meal, it's a better deal at Nai. If you want a bigger portion with better soup or if you are here with multiple people and want small plates, go here instead. I was at this restaurant also listed as Mr. Fish a little while back for dinner. As they had just opened 2 weeks prior, it was 12% off if you paid cash or posted an image. This is one of the many recent spots serving Suan Cai Yu/酸菜鱼/sour vegetable fish such as Nai Brothers and Fish With You in Flushing. By comparison to Mr. Fish, the prices are a good amount higher but the portions are a lot larger with the one person combo being $25.99 (which also comes with rice) and a choice of three toppings with there being another 10 or so topping choices if you order online. I hope they add a lunch deal version of their signature as currently it's more standard Szechuan options. Also, they only use the pricier snakehead fish instead of giving a choice between snakehead and sole. The people inside were friendly and it was well air conditioned. I ordered the combo for one which comes with your choice of soup and went with the for $12.95 with sole which is alternatively $15.95 for snakehead fish. The combos come with a choice of three small plates if two or more order which is a plus but not if you are here solely. I ordered it as spicy with tofu skin, enoki mushrooms, and black fungus with the other option being listed as vermicelli (with there also being more options online as noted such as quail eggs.) The soup was stronger flavored than Nai though not as spicy as some other Szechuan places though this however might be since I didn't get their signature spicy version. My favorite of the add-ons was the tofu sheets as it absorbed the flavor well as expected but the enoki and black fungus/wood ear had good texture. The fish was good and plentiful with a nice texture and there was plenty of it. The mustard greens were cooked nicely as were the other leafier greens. Overall, I preferred it over Nai and don't mind the stipend as I got a lot of leftovers.

My friends and I were waiting for a nearby reservation when this place caught our eye so we decided to try it. We were not particularly hungry and ended up trying two different fish soups (each was portioned for one person). The portions ended up being massive and we probably could have just shared one fish soup. Both came out quickly and were super flavorful. They are definitely on the salty side and I did add some water to my bowl at one point just to balance it out a bit but overall, it was super delicious. The broth is salty, punchy, sour, and complex. The fish was perfectly tender and cooked. We love the different side items that we could choose to go in the soup. Even as leftovers, the soup was delicious. Service was quick. Highly recommend and cannot wait to come back.

Enjoyable meal at this location. We tried the Hell's Kitchen location and thought this might b good too. Very satisfying!

YUM!!!!! I don't like Sakuraut so I opted for the spicy broth and it was delicious. The fish texture is so tender and I wanted to have more after I was done. Very hearty meal and would def come back

pretty solid spot for Chinese-style sauerkraut fish! it's especially good in the winter, but enjoyable in the summer as the restaurant also runs air conditioning. I was surprised by how fast and friendly the service is -- you can chat in Chinese or in English with the servers. I got the original spicy, which has a good amount of heat. They're also running a 12% promo, where you get a discount for leaving a Google Review or paying in cash. The portion size is quite large for one person (though it is a little pricey) so I ended up taking most of my food to-go. I also felt like they gave only a few of the complimentary add-ons like the enoki mushroom. I do recommend going in a group or with friends and getting other dishes, as it can be a lot of the same flavor if you just do the fish... It's clean inside and there's plenty of seating including tables for larger groups (5+).

very clean and sleek interior. I went with my friend around 3pm, so it was pretty empty since we avoided the lunch rush. We got the 2-3 people portion (48$) of the tomato sour soup fish with lotus root and enoki mushrooms. It also comes with sides so we got the garlic cucumber and the chengdu bean jelly noodle. Our favorite part of the dish was the lotus root. It was cooked so perfectly. The flavor of the tomato broth was a little sweet and sour (strong tomato taste). The combo also came with two bowl of rice. The portion size was super filling and couldn't finish so we ended up taking the rest home. Overall amazing food and experience. Would come back again.

Unique, delicious, and super authentic. Great service. Decor suffers from that top ceiling lighting you find in a lot of places. Food came out fast and was really tasty. Great soup to help get through a bad cold!

Stumbled upon this place on a rainy day craving brothy food. It's a laid back and comfortable environment for a meal and the soup had good flavor. Not too spicy but I'm sure you can ask for extra hot if you like spice!

Yummy Szechuan food! Signature sauerkraut fish (spicy) was just right for me - could drink the broth. I also liked the cucumber salad - very garlicky!

This place serves one of the best sauerkraut fish I've ever had! The broth is flavorful and perfectly balanced between sour and spicy, and the fish is fresh and tender. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size. Highly recommend if you're craving authentic Chinese comfort food. Will definitely be coming back!

As a Chinese I highly recommend this place!! The flip is so savory and fish is so fresh!!

The dish was so fresh and delicious. One of the best I ever had. Definitely recommend! A plus!

Got off the E train and when we looked for Chinese food, this place popped up with good reviews and it was just a short walk from where we got off the train. My buddies ordered the special lunches and we also got two types of xlb's, beef chow fun, and some fried dumplings. The special lunches come with a little fried rice, cold garlic flavored noodle, choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and main side. My buddies all enjoyed their meals. The beef chow fun was also really good and beef was nice and tender. The xiao long baos were excellent and is comparable to any place in California like DTF. Nice and juicy and great with some ginger, soy sauce, and spicy chili. Friendly service and food comes out pretty quickly. Credit card is accepted. I hadn't been to EDH in a while and was happy to see they do have later hours (with a smaller late night menu). The place was pretty busy at 10:00 PM last Saturday, with a wide range of diners, which is good for business. The food though, at least that night, was really disappointing. My friend had the chicken dumplings. He said they were okay. I thought they were overcooked. My steamed shrimp shumai were fine, but steamed, they didn't have much flavour. The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Then we got a handful of apps - everyone else swore by all the ones they'd had - but I just tried the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and... sweet baby Jesus, this little plate had a wicked amount of flavor from every angle.  "Aggressively seasoned" might be an understatement.  Wild. Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. I was told that it isn't always open, but if it was, I could certainly have a table there. When we arrived on the night of our dinner, I asked about the back room and was told that it was closed. And indeed, there was a rope up separating it from the front dining room. There was a table of people sitting there, but I was told that was management having a meeting. I asked when the room might be opened because we were willing to wait. I was told that there was no way for them to know. The front room was already full, by the way, except for the table that we seated at. Within 10 minutes, the back room opened and people started to go in. When I asked about this, I was told that it was a private party. About a half hour later I got up to use the restroom and had a look in the back. They were people seated at tables all around the room. It was obvious that none of them knew each other. It wasn't a private party. I didn't bother to ask about this because at that point appetizers had arrived and it was too late to move to another table. I was very baffled by the staff's reluctance to seat us at a requested table, which would've been very easy to do. As a result, I don't think I'll be coming back to Chi or recommending it to friends.
