Holy crap, this store is enormous! It is full of nice furniture, home decor, men's and women's clothing, and shoes, purses, and did I mention shoes? They have a designer section on the floor and an even higher-end designer section behind the counter. Great thrifting here! Extensive selection of all sizes, well organized racks and very clean. Clothing all smells freshly laundered.

They scheduled appointments months out in advance. After a long wait for the appointment , I go with 3 boxes only to find out that they will only take one per appointment. They then tell me that if I leave items and do not come back the same day, they will "donate" items they do not buy. I live over 40 minutes away. I had clothes that were new with tags, yet they said they were not looking for skirts right now. Wish they had informed me before I drove across town. After all of this, I left with a little over 5 dollars. They should give better information on their procedures and rules. They have a FAQ section on the website, but it had none of the info I learned AFTER getting to store. What a waste of time. The merchandise they had in store was dated and appeared very used and overpriced. Will never waste my time again with this business. read more

Associate attitude and lack of knowledge have completely and negatively effected my opinion of Sandy's and I will not be returning.

We've gotten some great deals from Sandy's for our new home in Gainesville. It's a pleasure to shop here as their merchandise is clean and arranged sensibly- none of the rag tag atmosphere that consignment stores sometimes have. Their staff is friendly and helpful, and went out of their way a few months ago to accommodate our request to buy four dining stools, but not the table itself. We're also planning to consign a chandelier and some other items with them later this spring and are looking forward to working with them. read more

I enjoyed shopping here until today when, after calling to confirm they might be very interested in my new and almost new Levis, I brought in the 4 pairs of 31 waist women's Levis jeans in black and indigo. They advertise no appointment needed if you are bring in 5 items, but after driving 45 minutes to get there, told me it would be 3 hrs. before they might have time to look at them. How long would it take you to look at 4 pairs of jeans? This was my 1st and last time bringing in clothing to this venue. I took my jeans and left. I will not be going there again to shop or otherwise. read more

We shop regularly at Sandy's and it is a hidden treasure. They lean toward a higher end selection of goods for sale or taken on consignment. Fair prices. One suggestion: have a list of people who can be called upon to transport the larger items home for a reasonable price. read more

Looking for one of the best places to shop in Gainesville? Sandy's is it!! I try to visit Sandy's at least once a month so that I may find all of my favorite fashion for half of the price! Thrifting is great, but coming to Sandy's will save you time and style by offering up items that are trendy, well-manicured and well-priced! I love that Sandy's is run like a boutique, you don't feel as though you are out scavenging through piles of old clothes like you may at your local thrift store. Sandy's is a fabulous consignment boutique with fashion for everyone in your family, designer items as well! There is even more than fashion, you can find home decor as well! I've seen the most gorgeous pieces of furniture in Sandy's for prices that blow my mind! Sandy's also has wonderful sales for holidays or just because it's the weekend. Shopping around and coming out of this boutique with a bag full of goodies for under $100 is definitely a favorite idea of fun for me! I've bought AND sold clothes here before! Selling: I mostly sold my husbands clothes. You know, before we had real responsibilities like a mortgage and savings account and he could buy named brand clothes like Abercrombie, Express, etc. I was expecting $3 for each item but we got WAYYYY more than that! I was really excited! Both times we sold they took all of our clothing so that was nice. $27 the first time and around $65 the second ! They only buy Tuesday-Saturday and stop buying at 4pm.. the first time was a Friday morning and we waited about 30minutes ...the second time was a weekend and we waited like two hours, ugh. It was semi-annoying bc there's not a lot to do in the area and we certainly can't be entertained in that store for two hours..I wasn't too pleased. You also have to wait in line for your clothes and money which is kinda annoying bc the line is ALWAYS 3-4 customers long.. Buying: the store is pretty well laid out...you can understand the POG pretty easily. Very very very small collection of plus size clothes and shoe sizes higher than 8. Some of the clothing had pretty obvious stains on them but were still fairly expensive, imo. It's very clean and the employees have always been pleasant. read more

I've had varying experiences at Sandy's. I have sold and bought from here. The selling experience is a bit tedious. They take forever to sort through your things. If you are not back by 7pm that day, they will "donate" your stuff. Retail-wise, there is a lot of clothing for sale. They sometimes have designer bags in all right shape. The nice thing about this store is that it has homegoods for sale as well. You can get furniture, kitchen supplies, books, etc. This makes it a step above Plato's Closet. read more

This is a large and very well organized thrift store. The majority of the store was focused on clothing, but there was a large selection of housewares and some furniture as well. Prices reflected the care taken to keep the place organized and clean, making shopping there a very good experience and not wasting time (not saying they were high, but they do have to pay staff to sort and maintain, so this is not rock bottom thrifting). Fitting rooms were clean, private, and large. All the staff I encountered were helpful and friendly. I would definitely go again on a future visit to Gainesville. read more

I've gone to Sandy's to sell and purchase clothes over the last couple years, so I've divided this review into two sections. Selling: They are very picky about what they purchase; if you bring a lot of items that they end up not being interested in, it's not unusual to catch some attitude from the staff. One visit last year left me feeling rather insulted as the lady looking at my clothes made some comments to the effect that the styles I had weren't very good. As I'm familiar with the types of clothes they sell, I make it a point to only bring in items I think they'd be interested in. It would be nice if I routinely didn't have to deal with attitude from their staff during this process. If you plan on taking your clothes in to sell, don't expect them to look through your items quickly. Sometimes they are quick (10min) and sometimes it can take up to an hour before they're done. They used to do store credit or cash, but I believe they only do cash at the time of this review. Buying: They have a small selection of over-priced furniture, a large selection of women's clothes and a rather small selection of men's clothes. I've purchased a variety of shoes, pants and trinkets here over the years, but find it hard to buy in quantity as the men's selections are limited and the prices seem inflated. On occasion I've found the need to return an item (why do clothes always fit better in the dressing room than when you get them home?), but have had difficulties returning items. The staff is suspiciously good at forgetting to provide receipts with purchases, so make sure to ask for a receipt in case you need to return an item. If you have to return an item, they'll give you the run-around until you give up and leave. Ironically, I've tried to sell back an item that I purchased just a week before and have been told that it's not a style they carry. There are plenty of other consignment stores in Gainesville that have better prices and staff that aren't rude. I might swing by in a year or two to see if they've learned how to treat customers correctly in the off chance that I can pick up some overpriced clothes. read more

This place is really cool. I wish I could just pick it up and take it home with me. I found a lot of great things here... I only wish I had space in my suitcase for more. The staff here were so friendly and helpful, and you can tell that they like what they do. They took the time to answer all of our questions, chit chat a bit, and they even invited my best friend to go into the back to check out the new designer threads that they just received but hadn't put out on the floor yet. Their handbag collection is pretty sweet. I saw at least two Gucci bags, a Louis Vuitton bag, a bunch of Michael Kors and some other labels, as well. If you've got the patience to comb through this stuff, you could really score. I had the most fun in the accessory section. My only complaint is that the jewelry is packed so close together on the rack that it's hard to really sort through it without knocking things over. If they spread the jewelry out a little more instead of trying to fit them all on the racks, it would make shopping so much easier. Overall, this place rocks! If you're a bargain Bounty Hunter like I am, you'll love it! read more

If you have any sense of fashion.. do not shop here!!! I tried to sell clothes here that are of high value and substance. They offered me all of 30 dollars for brands like Diane Von Fustenburg and Free People. Meanwhile they sell clothes from forever 21 and H & M for obscene prices. They buy clothes with stains and holes in them but not clothes in good condition. The staff are children, naive and incompetent. It is no surprise this store is located in Gainesville and probably does well with college age kids or people who have never stepped outside of this area. Go to Flashbacks where they will give you great value for your stuff and have a variety of styles and selections plus the staff there actually know what there doing!! I happened into Sandy's on a complete lark. I had driven down to Gainesville to have lunch with family, and on my way back, I missed my turn for Route 24. Luckily, you can keep going north and find other ways to get on 24. As I made that decision, I spotted Sandy's sign and just had to stop in. I was enamored the moment that I walked into this sweet thrift shop. I spent awhile browsing shoes, clothes, accessories, books, and wares. Unfortunately, though, I only left with a darling Irish-esque skirt and Saturday Night Fever's soundtrack on vinyl. Those were each $6.99 and $7.99. Not bad at all, but most of the other prices of items that I would have bought were just too far out of my price range or didn't fit just right. I'm a thrifty shopper. I hit flea markets and thrift shops all the time, but this was one of the first where I saw used items being sold at an equivalent price of a brand new item. I was very surprised at the demeanor of a number of the staff. There were two (an older woman in her 40s and the girl who rang me up) that were wonderful and nice. They smiled. They acted like they wanted to be there and help customers. The other employees working were just silent. The girl that was running the dressing rooms? Silent. Employees that were stocking the clothing racks or straightening displays? Silent and made it seem like it took a lot of effort for them to work around you as you are browsing. No "excuse me" or "how can I help you?" either. Customer Service 101 stuff. It seems like most of these more negative employees could be college students at UF, or maybe high school students. In any case, though, they could use some customer service training and maybe a refresher on manners. I'm pleased with my finds, but I don't know if I would stop back to Sandy's on my next jaunt through Gainesville given the atmosphere. read more

I think this place has some seriously overpriced items but I also know you can score a good deal too. I got BNIB KatVonD eyeshadow for way under normal price & I was happy about that. I wouldn't really think about selling here cuz it's so subjective on whoever is pricing your used goods but some of the crap they try to sell you is way off base. They also don't have children's clothes so don't expect that. Also you might be able to haggle some of the larger pieces of furniture & art work, especially if you point out your used item's defects or broken whatevers. I seen it & done it. read more

I really liked this consignment shop! Stopped in last weekend since I was visiting the Gainesville area. This review is based off of my buying experience only. I know they have the option of customers selling clothes to them, but I am not a local so I have never sold to them before. Pros: Great assortment of items and fantastic reasonable prices. Staff was a little quiet, but friendly. Cons: There is SO much in there that its almost overwhelming upon first glance. I've been here about 5 times to sell clothes and my experience goes worse everyone. Back story: it takes me about 20 minutes to get there. I'll just give the details of my displeasure. 3 of the times I went there to sell/donate items I was turned away and wasn't allowed to sell anything for 1)I was 6 mins passed their acceptance of clothes time, 2) they don't take this type of clothes 3) they aren't taking clothes at this time, they are only taking furniture. So that's 40 minutes x 3 trips I'd total driving to not be able to drop off clothes and being turned away. Outside of that, the process was pretty fast and they usually give you about as much as Platos would pay you. Except they'll donate the rest of the stuff they don't buy from you. read more

Sandy's a great place for clothes and house hold furniture! I feel as if my experience maybe different since I'm a guy, but I have no trouble selling my clothes at Sandy. They only give 35% of the cost they plan on selling but I personally think that's okay since I didn't want the clothes and appliances in the first place. Some thing they take - furniture, appliances, clothes (jackets, jeans, shorts, dresses, etc). Whatever is in season! One recommendation is to come in early to sell clothes, if you come later you can expect to wait up to two hours for them to sort your clothes. They stop taking clothes and appliances early so they don't fall for the mistake I did. The guy's section isn't all that big but I think it's great for gals looking for cheap quality brand name options. I usually spent 15 minutes looking and the rest of my time reading books on a couch while my friends go on a shopping spree. XD to give you some perspective. read more

They consistently take their time going through each item I'm trying to sell and are careful to assign it an appropriate value. Sandy's is a little out of my way and takes about 25 minutes to get to them from my house but I make the drive every time because I trust them the most when it comes to consignment shops. First let me say that I do understand that this is a consignment store and I'm an extremely realistic person, however, I took in over 20 pairs of shoes, all great/good condition; at least 8 of which were brand new, never worn. I was offered $10.85. Practically an insult. I posted a status on social media and received over 100 comments of the same. I sold 8 pair of shoes the next day just from a Facebook post for $72. Brought in pictures to the store of our large sectional couch that had rarely been used and had no stains. They gave me a price, which I thought was fair. We loaded it on a trailer and put it on the showroom floor where a store assistant suggested. We then were told that Sandy's could only give us a 1/3 of the original quote. I ask for a reconsideration by the owner or manager and was refused to increase the net to us. At that point. we could reload it or leave it which is what we did. It sold within a couple of days which indicated it might have be undervalued. A classic bait & switch. Will never go to that store ever again and told everyone I know of my negative experience. read more

Items were stolen from my home and taken to Sandy's. A police report was made and officials made contact with the store. A list of items that the suspect sold to Sandy's was printed out and the items that hadn't been sold yet I had to look for myself with no help from the staff. I also had to BUY my items back. The owner and staff knew that the items were stolen and had no compassion for the victim. 1 item, a Coach purse, that was sold by Sandy's was recovered by the Sheriff's office. 1 other item, a pink/peach colored fuzzy vest from Altar'd State, was sold and the staff Manager Tabitha Rowland and the owner Sandy Thompson refuse to try and contact the buyer to see if they would be so kind as to return it. Why???? I was told it was because "what kind of image would that give customers?" There are 2 other purses that are listed as being in the store. When they have time they will look for them, but not on my time frame, only when they can get to it. Well customers.... here is your image. read more

We used to like Sandy's and have taken items to sell there in the past. However, this time I agree with the previous posts that they were rude and unprofessional, and flat out lied to us. After taking in a large number of items, we were told to return by noon the following day. After rearranging our schedule to make it there by 10 AM, we were given some money and told that the rest of our items had been donated. We had planned to pick up those items and sell at another store. When we pressed them for information on the rest of our items, they actually let us rummage through the donation room. This was virtually impossible as it was packed full of bags and boxes. We did recover a couple of bags but feel that we'd been ripped off. You would think it would be easy to find all of our items since we drop them off last evening and pick them up this morning. Sounds a bit suspicious. Needless to say, we will NOT be returning to Sandy's and do NOT recommend this place for consigning goods. read more

As a seller beware. When you drop off 35 items and they give you 45$ dollars? Now you may be asking what did you drop off... Well a Starlight light display, about 12 rings from fragrant jewels, set of drinking glasses (still in the box btw), 2 geometric tabletob decor items with marble bases, makeup, face masks, a handpainted mask from Italy (walldecoration), and a few other things. Point being 35 items at 45$?! Thats less than 1.50 per item. Looked at the tags they place in their bins and they make about 140$ off what they purchased from me... It's an insult and the only reason they made money off me today is because I needed it. Leagalized theivery is what happens there. Sellers beware. Wow...so I took multiple bags of old clothing, books, and home goods to sell at Sandy's. They took it and gave me a time to pick up the money and the remaining items the next day. I woke up early and drove across town in order to be there in time. I was a couple hours early. They gave me the money, which was a decent amount, but not the remaining items. And there were a LOT of remaining items. It turns out they messed up and threw everything away in the donation bin. I was planning on selling the rest of the items at other thrift stores, but no. Sandy's had disposed of it all. They basically said "oh well...sorry. Here's our donation closet." So I spent 20 minutes climbing around in the closet, searching for my lost belongings. I only found a few things. The Sandy's employees didn't bother to give me a hand or anything. So that's that I guess. Thanks a lot, Sandy's. read more

Disclaimer: I got really burned by this place a couple of years ago. I used to shop at Sandy's a couple of times per month for shirts, shoes, and purses. I was pretty happy with how I was able to go get a purse or unusual sneakers in decent condition in my budget. Things used to be pretty tight for me, so it was really nice to be able to go get things that I couldn't have afforded at full price new. However, I had an absolutely horrible experience there that prevented me from going back forever. This was a couple of years ago when they were at their old location. I went in to buy black work sneakers for a food service job that I was thrilled I'd just landed. I had next to zero funds to buy what I needed for my work uniform, so I headed to Sandy's because I had faith I could find what I needed at a price I could afford. I found black work sneakers for $10, and I bought them. Like I do with every pair of used shoes that I buy, I washed them before I wore them for the first time. However, the shoes had (brace yourself) water soluble adhesive holding them together, so when I opened the washing machine, I found an oddly forensic display of every individual component of the shoes plastering the inside of my washer. I piled the separated shoes into a plastic bag and headed back to Sandy's to exchange them for shoes that wouldn't dissolve on contact with water. When I got to the counter and explained what had happened, the store clerk impatiently asked for my receipt. I told her that I didn't remember getting one, and she told me that she couldn't accept a return without one. The funny thing was that she herself had been the clerk that had rung me up the day before for those exact shoes, and she remembered me, but she was still harping on the receipt thing! I asked to speak with a manager, and the clerk disappeared for ten minutes. She came back with no manager, but told me that the manager had said that the shoes "were in good condition when they left the store" and that I would not be offered an exchange or refund. I told her that they had, in fact, left the store with water soluble glue holding them together, which was NOT a good condition, and that I was lucky that I didn't discover this while mopping at my job. The clerk just repeated what she had just told me. At this point, I actually teared up because people around me had started paying attention to the whole situation. I had to explain that I didn't have very much money, that I needed the shoes for work, and that it wasn't really an option for me to buy another pair of shoes. I told her that I just needed to exchange them for different shoes, and that I didn't need a cash refund. The clerk said nothing, so I asked if I could speak to the manager, and she said that I'd have to wait. I was pretty much crying at that point, so I just left the bag of what had been my shoes on the counter and started walking away. I told the clerk that there were several other pairs of the dissolving shoes on the shelf, but I doubt that they ever took them off the floor. This experience left me feeling humiliated, pushed around, and awful. The staff and management had no interest in making things right with me, and in fact demonstrated a willingness to put me through public distress before extending the least amount of fairness or decency. This happened years ago, but I still feel upset when I think about it. I've never shopped there again, and I can't help but wonder at Sandy's shortsighted handling of that situation. I would have continued to shop there to this day if they had treated me fairly, and so would my partner. Neither of us goes back anymore because we can't stand to use our money to support a place that treats customers badly. I have no idea if they've gotten better with customers since then, but I'm not willing to go back and find out. All I can say is make sure you get and save your receipt, and if you have a problem with faulty merchandise, don't count on Sandy's to make it right. read more

Sandy's is pretty cool. There are a lot of brand name (and current) items in there on the cheap. Those Abercrombie jeans with factory-prepared hotes in the thigh? $69.99 in the mall, $11.99 at Sandy's. That adorable tiered ruffle skirt with real lace detail? $55 at Express and $70 from Macy's for the Tommy Hilfiger version, but it's $8.99 at Sandy's. A pair of smexy knee-high suede boots? God-knows how much around G'ville, but less than $25 at Sandy's. For all that, they'd just be another second-hand store, but today I tried on a halter top that didn't want to unzip to let me in, and then utterly refused to unzip to let me back out. So I stood there, protecting my boobage as a store assistant tried to manually pry open the zipper. When that failed, she got a pair of pliers. The pliers broke off the zipper, which would have been much funnier if I was on my own time, but I was on my lunch hour and I couldn't wear the top back to work. I looked at her and she looked at me, and she did what had to be done. She got a pair of scissors and cut the shirt off me, laughing hysterically the whole time. Sandy's is the mecca of Gainesville consignment. I have brought my mom and sister here and they demanded we go back the very next day! Sandy's is on 13th street next to Lowe's/McDonalds. I got to say, the parking lot SUCKS and I have parked at the golden arches before and walked over though their signs expressly prohibit it. I looked at the width of the lanes, though, and concluded no tow truck was even going to be able to fit in to tow my sedan away, so w/e... Sandy's is pretty large and has pictures, furniture, china, books, DVDs, jewelry, toys, and CLOTHES. Lots and lots of clothes. All the stuff here is mostly what you can expect to find in a department store.... nicer end items. To be honest, I have only bought 2-3 things from here: a CK maxi dress for $12 (it's gorgeous, I love it so much), a banana republic skirt for $9, and a wallet that I have got many compliments on for $3. Everything is in good condition, nothing smells, ample fitting room space, and lots of sizes of clothing. Their dress selection is the best in Gville, my sister got a few of them last time she came to visit. Overall, get to Sandy's if you haven't already... you're going to find something you like and at a good price too. read more
