Holy crap, this store is enormous! It is full of nice furniture, home decor, men's and women's clothing, and shoes, purses, and did I mention shoes? They have a designer section on the floor and an even higher-end designer section behind the counter. I didn't find the comfy sandals I was looking for, but if I had been looking for sneakers, heels, or boots, I would've been set.

I've gone to Sandy's to sell and purchase clothes over the last couple years, so I've divided this review into two sections. Selling: They are very picky about what they purchase; if you bring a lot of items that they end up not being interested in, it's not unusual to catch some attitude from the staff. One visit last year left me feeling rather insulted as the lady looking at my clothes made some comments to the effect that the styles I had weren't very good. As I'm familiar with the types of clothes they sell, I make it a point to only bring in items I think they'd be interested in. It would be nice if I routinely didn't have to deal with attitude from their staff during this process. If you plan on taking your clothes in to sell, don't expect them to look through your items quickly. Sometimes they are quick (10min) and sometimes it can take up to an hour before they're done. They used to do store credit or cash, but I believe they only do cash at the time of this review. Buying: They have a small selection of over-priced furniture, a large selection of women's clothes and a rather small selection of men's clothes. I've purchased a variety of shoes, pants and trinkets here over the years, but find it hard to buy in quantity as the men's selections are limited and the prices seem inflated. On occasion I've found the need to return an item (why do clothes always fit better in the dressing room than when you get them home?), but have had difficulties returning items. The staff is suspiciously good at forgetting to provide receipts with purchases, so make sure to ask for a receipt in case you need to return an item. If you have to return an item, they'll give you the run-around until you give up and leave. Ironically, I've tried to sell back an item that I purchased just a week before and have been told that it's not a style they carry. There are plenty of other consignment stores in Gainesville that have better prices and staff that aren't rude. I might swing by in a year or two to see if they've learned how to treat customers correctly in the off chance that I can pick up some overpriced clothes.

Great thrifting here! Extensive selection of all sizes, well organized racks and very clean. Clothing all smells freshly laundered.

Associate attitude and lack of knowledge have completely and negatively effected my opinion of Sandy's and I will not be returning.

Such a cute shop! They have almost everything, I just wish they carried women's plus size clothing.

Toss in extremely friendly & helpful (but not pushy) service by Malgorzata, her husband Jim, & a staffer, and you cannot go wrong here! Malgorzata describes her establishment as "an eclectic gallary and boutique with handmade clothing, accessories and much more." Within its walls can be found artisan gifts of handmade jewelry; unique mobiles & clocks; purses, clothing, scarves and hats; musical wall art; pottery; baskets; and beautiful woven clothing made by Malgorzeta herself. The loom is on the premises so you can see what she's creating. (Malgorzeta has 20 years of weaving experience.) Art pieces on site rotate out so new artists are featured; over 200 artists are represented. If there's something you want, but can't find in the shop, just ask; she's happy to order it for you if she's able. (I am currently awaiting a stylish handbag in a color she didn't carry.) Prices are reasonable for the quality; the vast array of different styles of art are appreciated; & this well lit, spotless captivating gem is so deserving of not only a visit, but many return trips! ....................... Update: If 6 stars were a possibility, I would gladly oblige. I returned to purchase my purse, but decided I liked another color better than the one that had been specially ordered for me. The owner & her assistant were extremely friendly & helpful. Even the customer they were assisting was very outgoing! If you love art & supporting artists; an array of eclectic items; & fair prices, this place is a must. I could live inside this store...& quite happily:) And it's so accessible; it's in Thornebrook on the east side...to the left of Bageland. It's just feet from plenty of parking.

Although they do carry plenty of other brands, their selection of Jordans and other Nike lifestyle sneakers as well as the same category of goods by adidas, Puma, Diadora, and Converse are big draws for any DTLR store and let's be real, they're also the main money-makers with Jordans retailing for around $190 on many models. So DTLR has long been absent from Gainesville which I found odd considering their multiple stores in the Jacksonville and Orlando markets but that has just been remedied by the opening of this location. They went into the old Gainesville Shopping Center on Main Street, a decision that made me very pleased because this shopping center, which was one of the earliest in town and once very successful, has gone down in the past couple decades. It still has businesses, yes, but all really are what I call local service businesses--fast food restaurants, a Publix, and things like nail or hair salons. These are not really destination businesses, they cater to people in the neighborhood but won't probably draw in visitors from elsewhere. DTLR however will. It has competition in mall stores like Jimmy Jazz and House of Hoops, but it's unique. It probably would get more traffic in the mall or the new Butler Plaza but it accomplishes the very necessary goal of bringing more businesses to East Gainesville. I really commend whomever scouted out and chose this location for their foresight because not many chains would bother. The store itself is fairly large but their inventory is not on par with some of the higher-volume DTLRs. A chain-wide issue I've noted at DTLR is that they, at least in the scope of streetwear, are trying to be all things to all people at all price-points. So, you have some no-name brands of jeans and the like or store brands, and then you have the newest Jordans or Nike Air drops too--and that goes for clothing as well as sneakers. There isn't enough room for everything and instead of crowding it all in there (thankfully) they limit how much diversity of product they carry in any one area. So, in example, they have Diamond Supply but not much of it. Same with many brands. I hope they'll soon learn what sells at this specific store and streamline the inventory, but for now that's the main drawback: customers familiar with DTLR will find a more limited selection than at some stores. Still the presence of a DTLR in town and the fact they went into an under-served part of Gainesville is very exciting to me.
