I asked a few questions about make up for older skin (I'll be 58 in June) and she ended up basically giving me a makeover. Normally the extra small to medium sizes have all the fun colors, while the large and extra large sizes are relegated to a few monochromatic options. Not so here. Good thing, because big booty girls like color too! The only thing I would change is the checkout process. We were in line just a bit too long and the cashier tried three different times to upsell us on lip gloss. One 'no thanks' should be sufficient.

So I just walked through and then out at the other end. I'm beginning to lose respect for VS cause of the quality of materials they use and how they've increased the prices, and also the choice of words they use in the store to advertise, in the fitting rooms, and also on their products. As we entered, I said to my wife, "wow this place smells like my grandmother's." As I stopped to look at some of the clothes on a rack, the owner steps out from behind the counter and says, "I want you to know that I wash everything in here - twice - in unscented soap." There was no Hello, or Good Morning. So I said that she had overheard my comment and that it was not meant to be offensive, just a nice memory. ...and not believing me, she went on to berate me again for commenting on her store. I left immediately. There are other stores in this town that have better selections and certainly a lot nicer people.

Winters Past has a huge but well-curated selection of vintage clothing and jewelry that would do a large city shop proud. Plus, prices are reasonable--something it can be very hard to find. The owner and other staff are delightful and helpful, giving information about individual pieces and pulling out specific looks to "play with". Make the trek out to this lovely town for this store alone, and you won't be disappointed!
