Warning Attack Dog!! Well not quite, but the bark was inappropriate. While visiting the quaint town of Micanopy, I popped in Winter's Past. As we entered, I said to my wife, "wow this place smells like my grandmother's." As I stopped to look at some of the clothes on a rack, the owner steps out from behind the counter and says, "I want you to know that I wash everything in here - twice - in unscented soap." There was no Hello, or Good Morning. So I said that she had overheard my comment and that it was not meant to be offensive, just a nice memory. ...and not believing me, she went on to berate me again for commenting on her store. I left immediately. There are other stores in this town that have better selections and certainly a lot nicer people. read more

An absolute gem of a shop for the vintage enthusiast! Though I've only visited once, and so haven't seen everything, I'm already obsessed. Winters Past has a huge but well-curated selection of vintage clothing and jewelry that would do a large city shop proud. Plus, prices are reasonable--something it can be very hard to find. The owner and other staff are delightful and helpful, giving information about individual pieces and pulling out specific looks to "play with". Make the trek out to this lovely town for this store alone, and you won't be disappointed! read more

Vintage lovers will die and rise again upon entering Winter's Past. Vintage Heaven is a tiny cottage on 441 South between Ocala, Florida and Gainesville, Florida. It's home to the most dazzling, beautiful, funky, quirky, odd and kitschy vintage everything you can think of: Hats, jewelry, clothes, shoes, even an old rotary dial telephone that has been bedazzled entirely (sadly, it's not for sale, I've asked). This is not a junk shop. This is not a yard sale. This is a store. Please don't walk in and hope to haggle for lower prices. The owners have made good on pricing the pieces within. They know their brand names. Lift up a piece and ask them who made it and when. They will know. Then they'll encourage you to try it on. You'd like a picture of yourself in that Trifari necklace? Okay! The items in this store come from all over as it seems that the owners have buyers all around the US. Every inch of this store, including the ceiling, is decorated in fantastic pieces of clothing, shoes, hats, oh the hats, and jewelry. I've probably spent a paycheck, combined in this store over the years. I've tried on every tiara on display. I've worn one of the most expensive pieces of jewelry in the entire store just because I told the shop owner I thought it was a neat looking piece. Who does that these days? I won't lie, over the years, I've become friends with the wonderful owner, but it was easy to do since she's charming and funny and incredibly smart. She has excellent taste in music, which suits the store just fine. Her displays are an array of colors and sparkles. Honestly, I think I go to the store just as much for playing in the jewelry as much as I do for the company. I've brought everyone I know to this store. We've all tried on the big daisy hat in the second room. We've given our pictures to the owner as thank you gifts for letting us decorate ourselves in all the rhinestones, crystals, and jewelry we could put on. This isn't just a store. This is a place where you go to spend a few hours and remembering, depending on your age, playing in your grammy's closet and jewelry box or wearing a particular piece to your prom. I have as much fun going to Winter's Past with my friends as I do my mother. I love listening to my mom and Ms Winters discuss what they used to wear before my generation came along. I love to see my friends girly up and transport themselves from Hipsters to 1950s Prom Queens. I love finding a piece and exclaiming, "My gram had this brooch!" A good alternate name for Winter's Past would be Happiness Present. Step in for a jump back in time and walk out with a little bit of fashion history! read more

This is a great place for vintage clothing and accessories for mostly women. There is a section for guys, if you need to get decked out in retro threads. The display cases are brimming with costume jewelry and beaded bags for stepping out. You will find it difficult to leave without buying one of the many vintage hats, so don't fight it. This is one of my favorite stores in Florida! Dina, the owner, is a delightful woman, whose knowledge of vintage clothing and jewelry is amazing. Shopped at Winters Past yesterday and bought an Art Deco silver bracelet that I love. Dina was able to tell me some of the background of Art Deco/Mexican jewelry so this was a learning experience as well. A visit to this shop brings back warm memories of the past and preserves the history of fashion for younger generations. read more

If you've ever been to McIntosh, you know that the "mall" is outdoors and it is a junkyard, literally. So happily you scramble to the nearest decent sign of civilized shopping (although I'm sure you'd get a good find among the piles of rust in the junkyard.) In this quaint little matchbox you'll find a kaleidoscopic arrangement of patterns that embody its very name. The only time I've been was well spent, as I walked out with a receptacle ring (made for poison, I believe) and some nifty little earrings. She has an amazing collection of hats and scarves, which are definitely my heart. read more

The best vintage store in Gainesville is just outside of town, in McIntosh. Winters Past is a small but really well stocked shop that has a great selection of vintage clothes and jewelry. Winters Past is more classy than kitchy. There is a supurb selection of good quality jewelry, presented in a well-organized and well designed way. The clothes really span the decades and are seperated into catagories that make sense. This ishop is in a small town but the selection they offer would be equally at home in a big city. Winters Past is an unexpected treaure thats well worth the drive. read more

I visited with Winters Past with low hopes, but it turned out to be a charming, lively place! Prices were very reasonable and the selection was surprisingly wide: I saw 1960s shirtwaist dresses, pristine crinolines, and dozens of gorgeous hats and shoes. The back room is full of lesser garments that you're encouraged to "make an offer" for, and the whole shop is prettily decorated with colorful displays of vintage jewelry. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and happily conversed with us about his experiences collecting Bakelite (some of which, of course, the shop sells). Just visiting was a delightful experience, and I rather wish it was closer to Gainesville, so we could go more often! read more
