    Pickle Brined Fried Chicken Sandwich
    Jon T.

We don't get to Sandtrap as often as we should. This was our sixth visit in about ten years. We always have a good experience here and feel that of all of the Sooey's properties, they are head and shoulders the best, Shipwrecks being our second choice. Sooey's and Simply Southern are off our list This time it was a Pickle Brined Chicken sandwich for both of us. These were huge chicken breast halves and we actually could have shared one. My chicken was tender and juicy, but she found hers to be a little dry and felt like it was not brined long enough. I would still recommend this choice. I was tempted by the brisket sandwich and by the Smoked Turkey. Maybe next time. Both are to be recommended. The fries are still not great. I just think they are cut too thick. My slaw was not as good as I recalled, with too much celery seed that made it bitter, and the cabbage was stale and strong tasting. The two side dishes aside, I resolved that when we want a sandwich or fish tacos, we need to remember to come here. This is always a pleasant and quiet place for a good lunch. We originally came because we look for places that are participants in the AAdvantage mileage program, but we like the food and keep returning. We still rate them a strong three stars.

We had another fantastic time at the Sandtrap during our vacation. Since we own a timeshare there, it's a yearly tradition that we look forward to. It's more than just a golf clubhouse; it's a great restaurant with delicious food, excellent service, and wonderful company. Check it out!

The food here was amazing. We went for breakfast and they had a variety of options. The food was really hot and fresh. The bacon and sausage weren't precooked meats and were so good. The pancakes were very fluffy and buttery and the grits were absolutely delicious. The restaurant is off of a golf course and was very cute and quaint. There's plenty of seating and it's very spacious. There's plenty of parking as well. The service was good and waitresses were very friendly. It just took awhile for the food to come out.

Solid Brunch Fare. Welcoming service - aka Southern Hospitality. Home fries could use some more spices imo

Shrimp Tacos were great. Just the right spicing in the dish. For $14.00 .. recommend.

Waitress attentive. Atmosphere was casual not too crowded. TV's surrounding bar area, plenty of seating. Would not recommend if you want a full course dinner. Very simple menu with breakfast and lunch being a staple.

I've were in the area for a long weekend with friends. My husband and I decided we wanted to go grab a quick lunch, so a Yelp search netted several chains but then we saw Sandtrap. My husband loves golf and my mom worked at a golf course when I was a kid, so we thought it would be fun to eat at an eatery that is adjacent to a golf course. When we arrived, the parking lot was pretty full, but the restaurant had just a handful of people. We took a table outside overlooking the first tee and watched golfers tee off. Our server greeted us and got drinks for us...a gin and tonic for me and an ipa for my husband. For our meals, we got a house salad with balsamic, the tea-brined wings and peel and eat shrimp. Everything was good. The wings had a pretty strong vinegar flavor and were slightly dry, but the flavor was nice. The prices here are pretty good! My mixed drink was only $6. If I lived nearby, I'd walk over, enjoy some good food and a reasonably priced cocktail.

I stopped here on my way back to Duck coming from Holly Ridge Golf Course to grab some lunch and a few beers. I found the whole experience very pleasant and the food appetizing, yet nothing to write home about either. I actually enjoyed the Buffalo Fried Shrimp more than the chicken sando. Perfectly fried and I couldn't stop popping them into my mouth. If you like buffalo chicken wings then you will like these guys. If you're getting an app with your meal, get this one. I thought the Pickle-Brined was pretty good. The pickles, potato bread, and crispiness of the breaded chicken were all great. I think an area of improvement could be made with the seasoning of the breading on the chicken. It tasted kind of bland and really held this sandwich back from what otherwise would have been a really good southern style fried sandwich. I did really enjoy the fries that came with it. Overall, it was a nice and refreshing dining experience after coming off an extremely hot round of golf. Considering how crowded and pricey some places in OBX can get Sandtrap Tavern had none of that. Overall a very positive experience.

For all the ratings and comments and price I expected something better. Home fries aren't even homemade. Grits are a joke.

Not too shabby. We ate breakfast on the porch with our dog while watching golfers nearby. The "big boy platter" was pretty delicious.

Our service was great. But the food, sub par. Soft drinks were "odd" for lack of better word. So I returned it for a beer cause, why not. Sweet tea was so sweet that we had to dilute it with water. We can handle that. The food would have been great, had they used ANY SEASONING at all. Everything tasted as tho the kitchen lost all S&P privileges. I had the prime rib w/ au jus. Meat was tender and onions cooked nicely. But it definitely didn't match the description which was something like "on a hoagie bun topped with garlic and butter." It was not. Which would have really helped carry the no seasoning deal. Au jus, had great potential, just no flavor. I ended up eating the meat alone and left the bread. Wife got the Reuben. Which was overall ok. Much more flavor than mine. But only bc of the sauerkraut. Oldest daughter got the BYO burger, with cheese and pickle. The burger was clearly a frozen patty from the store. As clearly defined by the shape of the patty. She ate half and the other half sits in the fridge as I type, from 2 nights ago. (I usually eat all the leftovers) I leave this review in hopes that the management and kitchen staff will start to properly season their food. Arts has great potential. But not without seasoning!
