My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

My yard was overgrown and a mess. The sod from 2000 was done and full of weeds. The planting areas were in terrible shape. Fern and I talked and together we put together an idea of a combination of sod and DG. I mentioned to him that I always ask for more than discussed and to make sure he added the additional expense. They showed up on time every day at 6:30am and worked nonstop until dusk. They removed two big truck loads of dirt, old sod, weeds, roots and old plants by loading the truck using wheelbarrows. They put in new drip irrigation, new sprinkler lines and valves and repaired my outdoor electrical outlets. They built three paver borders and used cement to make a paver border fence I built by stacking blocks permanent. He cleaned out a raised planter not in the quote, fixed the drip lines and mulched and used my old fountain to build a bird feeder space in the planter. The quote was very fair and the addition price for the added work was very fair also. I will definitely be using him again for my next project. He also installed new ceramic tiles with my address on the front of the house and cleaned out part of my gutters and fixed the leaks to keep them from dripping on the DG. I felt a strong sense that he wasn't out to get me, but rather to honestly help me and rebuild the wall with budget in mind. I chose Lee's over two other previous bids, and I am very glad I did. On day one of the demolition phase, foreman Augustine and his awesome crew just blew my mind at how efficient, precise and hard working they were. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed and felt at ease, knowing that I was definitely in good hands. Within a week, I had a beautiful brand new retaining wall built better than ever. Equally impressive was Joyce at the office making sure I was never left hanging with questions or concerns. All my queries were handled in a timely manner. For anyone looking for concrete/brick contractor, I highly recommend Lee's Concrete.

This was my very first time hiring anybody to do any sort of landscaping work. I was ignorant going…read moreinto it so I had to lean heavily into the landscapers expertise on what would be best for what I wanted to achieve. After getting a few quotes, I chose Lee's Concrete because he impressed me the most with the ideas he presented, not being pushy or sales-y, while also staying competitive price wise. He is also officially licensed for concrete. The project started around May 2025, and completed towards the end of July 2025. It consisted of concrete pouring, artificial turf installation, irrigation routing and laying out gravel/river rocks in planting areas. Also, a 2D layout diagram was provided for me to submit to HOA for approval. Below is a list of critiques ranked starting with my biggest letdowns: #1) WEEDS. Not via the concrete, but the artificial turf that was laid out. Lee offered artificial turf installs during my contractor search. My main reason for getting artificial turf was to have little-to-no maintenance. But, mines constantly has weeds growing out of the edges due the gap in the ends not being sealed. My next door neighbor had artificial turf installed by another landscaper and never has any weeds growing out of the edges ever. They had theirs installed after mine. Maybe it was my fault for not communicating that need initially. But at the same time, I thought having artificial turf laid out and it preventing weed growth on the edges would be a given. #2) Blotchy concrete coloring on front yard. My backyard's concrete coloring was pretty consistent and I was very happy with how it turned out. But my front yard was very blotchy and inconsistent. I was told that this is normal and will take about a year to cure and to give it time. Another reason was for differing "pH levels" for the area where the concrete was laid. Well... a year has passed and it has kind of improved here and there, but not so much in other parts. So, I'm a little hesitant to believe it that is actually the reason. It doesn't make sense to me that all the concrete laid out in my entire neighborhood doesn't look as bad as how it looks on my driveway. Structurally, it's fine. But it is a bit of an eye-sore looking at it every time I'm in my front yard. #3) I felt like I spent more time than I needed to checking for imperfections. A main one was my vinyl fence and cinder block wall getting dirty from the concrete pours. Another big one was the cinder block retaining wall in my backyard not being symmetrical on the edges. I had to call it out a few times to even get it fixed. Once it was finally fixed, my vinyl fence had residue from the cinderblock wall fix. By that time, I had gotten fatigue from having to constantly call out imperfections and let that one go. #4) You don't really know when the landscapers will come out to do the work. If I remember correctly, they would come out most weekdays. But, you wouldn't know if they would show up the next day or not. Not too big of a deal honestly. I'm more picky about this because I like to keep the side gate to my backyard locked and not knowing when to unlock it in the morning was just a tiny annoyance. I ended up just unlocking it first thing in the morning and locking it in the evening every weekday. Overall, I'd rate the project a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 - which I think is a very fair assessment. I'm relatively happy how it looks at the end. But there were a few bumps along the way which is why I cannot give a 5 out of 5. It pains me to write the above critiques and not be able to give the highest rating because Lee and the rest of his team were all very nice people. But there definitely could've have been improvements for the entire project.

Their crew is exceptional. My mom (who's elderly) stopped by my house during construction and one of their guys helped her to the porch and made sure she didn't fall. Steve and his crew are regular people that treat others with kindness and respect not because they have to, but because that's who they are. They fixed a leaky pipe in my backyard without having to pull up my pavers and then they fixed a pipe in my front planter that solved low pressure on my drip lines. No fuss, no extra charges or unnecessary parts and labor. Steve's team obviously have deep knowledge and experience but what makes them so great is that they communicate clearly and are enjoyable to work with. Highly recommend them.

Regarding the facility, it is the most organized landscape and material business I have seen. The area is sectioned off by material type and easy to navigate. In addition, they keep all of the areas clean. This time, we needed several cubic yards of rock for the final phase of our front yard landscape project. The staff members were super friendly and clearly had a background in good customer service. The ladies were so helpful and patient, while we selected what we wanted. They also made suggestions. Measuring cubic yards is not the easiest thing to do (at least for me), so I was a little concerned I might have ordered too much. The staff explained we could pickup the material in phases, and anything we did not need would be refunded to our credit card on file. Well, my measurements were slightly over what we needed, and the refund process over the phone was seamless. I highly recommend O.F. Wolfinbarger for any building or landscape material needs. They have a great selection, and the service is top notch!

We are doing a major renovation to our house which includes upgrading the front. We wanted a new driveway, a block wall fence surrounding the front of the property, artificial turf and stone veneer on the house. Sandstone Construction gave the best price of three bids. Kyle was very clear on his pricing including material cost. Kyle was very helpful in changing our vision into reality. His design is beautiful. The crew was very professional and hard working. One thing that stood out was it appeared that everyone knew the details of the project from the beginning. If the crew completed the day's expected work, they started on the next day's work. This resulted in the work getting done within the estimated time even though there were 5 rain days. We were also impressed with the way they handled adversity. They installed a concrete walkway one day expecting the rain to arrive in the late afternoon. Just like washing a car, this caused the rain to arrive in the morning. Two days later when the rain stopped, they checked the walkway and determined that it had to be replaced. They shrugged it off and got it done with no complaints. I had the opportunity to work with Kyle at Sandstone Construction when I had 10 feet of collapsed drain dug up in my driveway that left a large rectangle that needed to be filled. At the same time I was dealing with a slope problem which was overflowing on one of my retaining walls. I was considering adding a brick bullnose cap to the top of the retaining wall to aid in warding off future issues so when I asked Kyle to come by and take a look and give me a quote, it went well. When they were ready to do the job he and his crew did the concrete slab, did the burgundy bullnose brick cap (with tan grout that matches the retaining wall) and while they were working on the brick cap on the retaining wall, I realized it would look great around my fire pit and seat wall. With no delay, they incorporated that into their job and I am beyond pleased with the result! They arrived every day on time, they cleaned up each day when they left, the crew I had worked only on my job and completed in less than 2-1/2 days. I contracted with Sandstone Construction to install two paver patios in my backyard area. The long, narrow yard with stumps and old roots was challenging and Kyle was wonderful helping me to design two beautiful spaces that didn't interfere with the natural topography and just invite you to come relax. The attention to detail has really transformed the space, including some stepping stones between patios and a pretty stone step up to the upper patio. The ground work they did before the pavers went in was thorough, and I could see how professional and experienced the crew was at making sure the patios were built on the correct foundation. This is the second job we had Sandstone Construction perform for us. The first was repairing a block-wall fence that was leaning such that the gate would not close properly. Sandstone Construction rebuilt the fence so that it was twice as sturdy and strong as it was when originally built. Sandstone Construction did such a good job in this repair, at a very fair price, that we hired it to build a backyard block-wall fence. Everything went smoothly. The inspections passed the first time through. The crew was courteous, neat, efficient, and very capable in building the fence. We had a small job requiring patching of a gap in our driveway left when we removed an old fence post. It was such a small job that we figured in these busy times most would just not respond. Kyle did, and completed the job for us. It was actually complex in detail as it was, literally, patching a 100 year old driveway in Old Town Orange and incredibly enough, Kyle matched the texture and surface so perfectly that it looked like the original. As seen in the screenshot I attached, after I politely informed him that we had chosen to go with another contractor, his response was unnecessarily passive-aggressive and unprofessional. I don't believe it's appropriate for a business to respond to potential clients this way -- especially when the communication was respectful. It's understandable that not every contractor will get every job. But the way someone reacts in these situations says a lot about their attitude and how they might handle challenges during the actual project. My advice to others: professionalism and basic respect matter just as much as skill. There are many great contractors out there -- choose one who makes you feel comfortable and respected throughout the process. Definitely not the one I would recommend, based on my experience.
