Really cool spot in an older building and the staff is very friendly. They sat us immediately no waiting on a Sunday after church. Now, let's get to the food. I think the salsa was okay; I love a spicy flavor. The taco salad with grilled chicken was OK not the best it was missing seasoning. I'll have to go and try again and maybe a different dish, the cheese dip was pretty good. I'll give this visit a 7/10. read more

We love san marcos! Food is delicious! Service is great! The only mexican restaurant we are not tired of.

The food and service are consistently good. I've been eating here for 25 years and have never once been disappointed. Limited adult beverages. Does not have a full bar. read more

Prices are very good and it's always great food! Yum! If you're on the fence don't be! Just go you'll love it!!!!

The chips were good, and the nachos held up. But other than that, if you're looking for real Mexican, skip it. It was very Americanized "Mexican." The tacos were flavorless, salt helped a little. The guacamole didn't taste or look like guacamole - pea soup green, mashed to be almost soupy, no tomatoes, onions, or anything you would expect to find in guacamole and drab, odd taste. read more

The absolute best Mexican in Montgomery. I've gone for years. 10 stars! Everything is perfect.

We were seated, Waitress came got drink order, came back with drink got food order, 5 minutes later receive food. Never seen Waitress again if we needed anything or if meal was alright. Food was good, no season on the beef tacos. Place was clean, and nice. Waitress came with bill and said Thanks as she walked away. Went to pay bill no comment on how everything or nothing was. read more

I have gotten take out here for years and have been mostly satisfied until recently. The last two times the food was tasteless. There are better Mexican options. read more

It has been my number one spot for Mexican in Montgomery for years and it never disappoints! I order the pollo loco every time and sometimes spice it up and add steak instead of chicken. Several times have me and my family come to this place for good food and especially on late nights. We use to go every Sunday after church and even when the lunch rush kicks in it's still fast and easy and we're out faster that you know it! Me and my girlfriend have spent several dates here as well and plan to continue to visit. Now on to the reason you go to Mexican restaurants. I order queso every single time and it never fails!!! Best queso I've eaten in Montgomery and even have gotten it when placing a to order. If you are coming in from out of town and need a good restaurant for Mexican then this is the place! read more

Visited on last evening and although the food had great taste, there was barely any there! I ordered the chicken quesadillas and I barely had any chicken; the same for my friends! we had to search to find any meat! Now I'm sitting around hungry and looking crazy like I didn't even eat dinner last night! Also, the chairs were not great for larger size individuals. The sides pushed into our legs and it was quite painful! Other options for seating would be great! read more

San Marcos is one of the best and affordable Mexican restaurants Montgomery has to offer. I have frequented it for more than a decade and I don't ever get tired of it. It may not be as pretty as some of the other Mexican joints in town, but then again that's some of its charm. Seating is usually immediate, especially for parties of two or four. The church crowd for Sunday lunch does fill the place up, but even when the place is packed service is speedy and exceptional. They bring out warm chips and fresh salsa before they get your drink order. I usually don't get sweet tea at restaurants because it's usually too variable, but I get it frequently at San Marcos and it never disappoints. To my delight, they serve their tea and Coke products in enormous glasses which the friendly, non-gringo waitstaff keep filled. The portions for their combos and "plates" are huge. I end up taking half of my meal home if I get a combo plate... or I just feel miserable after insensibly eating the whole thing. For the best experience, I usually get an ala carte item like a guacamole taco and then split an order of cheese dip with my table. The cheese dip is perhaps the best in town: warm, kinda runny, and just the right amount of mild spicy heat (my wimpy mother can handle it, so it's not too spicy). On special occasions the wife and I split some Fried Ice Cream, which is pretty freaking delicious. They also serve other South-of-the-border desert favorites. While I am not a "drinking" man, I do know they offer the requisite Mexican beers as well as some domestics, and giant fish-bowl margaritas and daiquiris. I'm pretty sure they run nearly nightly drink specials, among specials on dinners. They offer really affordable lunch specials every Mon. -- Sat. from 11 am to 2 pm. My picky vegetarian wife loves the Enchiladas Rancheras, in addition to the other veggie selections they offer. Dad loves the Chile Relleno (though he can't pronounce it). Mom is all about the Chicken Quesadillas. My brother-in-law gets the Steak Fajitas. And my sister and I float around the menu getting whatever suits our fancy, never to be disappointed. read more

Okay, food is really good here and its cheap. Last night though, I went to eat and something was just biting the heck out of my mom and I. You would think its allergies from food but I started itching moment after I sat down. We told the waiter in spanish and he just giggled. Then when we was going to pay the host giggled about the situation. If they have cameras they can see I kept checking my leg to see what it wrong. This morning I wake up and the bite are swollen just horrible and they are hot plus hurting. You all need to do better and control bug problem and deep clean that nasty carpet. I will be adding a photo. read more

The food was very reasonable and great flavor for the price. The salsa was okay- nothing to brag about. The pomegranate margarita had great flavor and was strong for the price. The pollo loco had great flavor as well and good portion size. Our group also had chicken tamales, steak and cheese quesadilla and a taco salad, all two thumbs up! All of the prices were reasonable and they had a large menu selection. read more

- We went in for dinner one Saturday night as we have been for years. Getting in was perfectly fine. We were immediately seated and all was fine. As soon as we sat down salsa and chips were brought to us. Then I was a like 2 chips in and the lady was already asking what I wanted for my drink. Then she brings us our drinks walks to the back and came back right after to ask for our order. Then she had to ask what by brother wanted 3 times. So she takes our order and brings our food shortly after. Mine was wrong and they had to take it back. My aunt's chicken and cheese quesadilla was the worst one she has ever had at this restaurant. After this experience I will not feel the same about this restaurant. I do not know if the lady who served us was having a bad day or what because we all have them. God bless. read more

Food is pretty good. Staff is okay. One of my pet peeves is to go into a restaurant and have them sit people that have come in after me, especially when they have been informed. This is what happened to my wife and I here. read more

San Marcos is a classic Montgomery staple. This place hasn't changed in 20+ years. Still love their "cheese dip" which has been consistent since way before queso was popular anywhere else. San Marcos - Cheese Dip - Mexican Near Me - Montgomery, Alabama

This isn't Mexican food! This is ground beef and beans just served different ways and in different vessels. It isn't even Tex mex! Where's the carne asada, barbacoa, carnitas, or al pastor? I didn't expect tripe, posole, or lengua but this is just sad..... The chiles rellenos were a joke. It was half a green bell pepper with ground beef and beans covered with cheese and melted.....no poblano pepper and not even dipped in a batter and fried. The burrito is what you would call a wet burrito if that's what you want to call it. It was just a tortilla with ground beef rolled with red sauce and cheese on top. The salsa taste like tomato sauce and is RUNNNNNNNYYYY. The rice and beans were subpar too. This is no bueno and I definitely won't be back and don't suggest anyone else go there. read more

San Marcos offers average Americanized Mexican food at an ok price. I was driving through Montgomery with some friends on the way to the beach. We used our trusty Yelp app to find a place to eat while driving on the interstate. We stumbled across this restaurant. It had great reviews and was close to the interstate. You get chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. We got an order of cheese dip with jalapenos to share. I'm not sure it actually had any jalapenos in it as I didn't see any green specks and it didn't have a kick at all. For my entree, I got the combination with a taco, enchilada and burrito. All of them came with ground beef and the usual sauces. It was a lot of food. I made it through a lot of it before admitting defeat. I also tasted a friend's order of chicken fajitas. She requested cheese to be melted on it. Good call on her part! I thought that her entree tasted better than mine. Service was extremely slow. It took a really long time to place our order, get drink refills and to get our food. I'm not sure why it was so slow since the restaurant was not busy at all. Overall, a decent place for Mexican food. I can't tell you how it compares to other places in Montgomery as we were just passing through. read more

Since moving to Montgomery from VA last July, we've been searching for a good, cheap, hits the stop Mexican place just like our favorite back home.. Thanks to yelp, I stumbled across San Marcos.... and thanks to a dog who jumped on the counter and at our planned supper, we make the trek to San Marcos tonight... The chips and salsa were free flowing. The service was incredible, quick and efficient... something I feel like Montgomery typically lacks. The bathroom was squeaky clean, which was very impressive considering the traffic in and out of this little divey joint.. The best part-- Wednesday night, buy one dinner, get the 2nd for $1.25. My husband and I ate for, tax, tip included for $12.00. I hate tamales, rice and beans (and brought half home), he had chicken taco, beef enchilada, chili relleno, rice and beans. Everyone around us was enjoying a slushy margarita, which I will return for once this baby growing inside of me comes into the world... Definitely put this on to do list if you're searching for your cheap mexican place.. this is going to be our go to spot from here on out! read more

It was already been my favorite Mexican place to go to, until I moved to Texas. I like their shredded beef quesadilla dinner, and the combo that has chills rilleno. Family owned and operated for longer than a decade read more

Good food. Good atmosphere. Excellent service. Good prices. My husband wasn't too impressed with his fajita nachos, but my chicken quesadilla was great. We also enjoyed the queso. We were just in Montgomery for the weekend, and I'm so glad I looked on yelp to find a local spot instead of a national chain that we probably would have gone to instead. read more

So I'm not a very picky person when it comes to food. It's pretty easy to please me as a big food fan in general, but today was the first time I actually thought a meal sucked in a while. My usual go to at Mexican restaurants is a Chile relleno. Now I'm from California so I don't know if Chile rellenos are made different here, but that was no Chile relleno. It was basically one stuffed bell pepper cut in half served as two Chile rellenos smothered in cheese. It wasn't battered or fried, and just filled with ground beef. Wish I would of read the reviews before I ordered. On more positive note though the puerco Verde aka Chile Verde was good. Also for the party size we had service was pretty speedy. There was some mistakes on our orders though. Sometimes it pays to slow things down a bit and get things right the first time. Just saying. read more

Great food, friendly staff, and fast! I am in love with their cheese dip. Best in town for Mexican food.

Best Mexican food in Wetumpka, been going to this place for years now and love it. When you order your food, it gets out to you in only a minute or so. Sometimes I wonder how they make this stuff so quickly. Their menu has something for pretty much everybody, and the prices are reasonable. I usually end up having to get a takeout box since I cant finish it all in one sitting. My personal favorite is the Enchilada Supreme, gotta love that guacamole and sour cream. read more

I wonder why this restaurant always been full of people, so i decided to try. They've got a lot of menu there which is confused me, but then one of the waiter (the older one) he is nice btw recommend me their famous qasadila. So i ordered the qasadila for a take out. The qasadila come with some sort of mexican flavor fried rice, a generous amount of tortilla chips with a salsa for the sides. The qasadila tasted okay, but don't expect too much for the salsa. (The salsa is like a substitute of ketchup) but for that price it's still one of the recommended place for local. read more
