It has been my number one spot for Mexican in Montgomery for years and it never disappoints! I order the pollo loco every time and sometimes spice it up and add steak instead of chicken. Several times have me and my family come to this place for good food and especially on late nights. Visited on last evening and although the food had great taste, there was barely any there! I ordered the chicken quesadillas and I barely had any chicken; the same for my friends! we had to search to find any meat! San Marcos is one of the best and affordable Mexican restaurants Montgomery has to offer. I have frequented it for more than a decade and I don't ever get tired of it. It may not be as pretty as some of the other Mexican joints in town, but then again that's some of its charm. Seating is usually immediate, especially for parties of two or four. The church crowd for Sunday lunch does fill the place up, but even when the place is packed service is speedy and exceptional. They bring out warm chips and fresh salsa before they get your drink order. I usually don't get sweet tea at restaurants because it's usually too variable, but I get it frequently at San Marcos and it never disappoints. To my delight, they serve their tea and Coke products in enormous glasses which the friendly, non-gringo waitstaff keep filled. The portions for their combos and "plates" are huge. I end up taking half of my meal home if I get a combo plate... or I just feel miserable after insensibly eating the whole thing. For the best experience, I usually get an ala carte item like a guacamole taco and then split an order of cheese dip with my table. The cheese dip is perhaps the best in town: warm, kinda runny, and just the right amount of mild spicy heat (my wimpy mother can handle it, so it's not too spicy). On special occasions the wife and I split some Fried Ice Cream, which is pretty freaking delicious. They also serve other South-of-the-border desert favorites. While I am not a "drinking" man, I do know they offer the requisite Mexican beers as well as some domestics, and giant fish-bowl margaritas and daiquiris. I'm pretty sure they run nearly nightly drink specials, among specials on dinners. They offer really affordable lunch specials every Mon. -- Sat. from 11 am to 2 pm. My picky vegetarian wife loves the Enchiladas Rancheras, in addition to the other veggie selections they offer. Dad loves the Chile Relleno (though he can't pronounce it). Mom is all about the Chicken Quesadillas. My brother-in-law gets the Steak Fajitas. And my sister and I float around the menu getting whatever suits our fancy, never to be disappointed. read more

Okay, food is really good here and its cheap. Last night though, I went to eat and something was just biting the heck out of my mom and I. You would think its allergies from food but I started itching moment after I sat down. We told the waiter in spanish and he just giggled. Then when we was going to pay the host giggled about the situation. If they have cameras they can see I kept checking my leg to see what it wrong. This morning I wake up and the bite are swollen just horrible and they are hot plus hurting. You all need to do better and control bug problem and deep clean that nasty carpet. As soon as we sat down salsa and chips were brought to us. Then I was a like 2 chips in and the lady was already asking what I wanted for my drink. It was half a green bell pepper with ground beef and beans covered with cheese and melted.....no poblano pepper and not even dipped in a batter and fried. The burrito is what you would call a wet burrito if that's what you want to call it. It was just a tortilla with ground beef rolled with red sauce and cheese on top. The salsa taste like tomato sauce and is RUNNNNNNNYYYY. The rice and beans were subpar too. This is no bueno and I definitely won't be back and don't suggest anyone else go there. read more

San Marcos offers average Americanized Mexican food at an ok price. I was driving through Montgomery with some friends on the way to the beach. We used our trusty Yelp app to find a place to eat while driving on the interstate. We stumbled across this restaurant. It had great reviews and was close to the interstate. You get chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. We got an order of cheese dip with jalapenos to share. I'm not sure it actually had any jalapenos in it as I didn't see any green specks and it didn't have a kick at all. For my entree, I got the combination with a taco, enchilada and burrito. All of them came with ground beef and the usual sauces. It was a lot of food. I made it through a lot of it before admitting defeat. I also tasted a friend's order of chicken fajitas. She requested cheese to be melted on it. Good call on her part! I thought that her entree tasted better than mine. Service was extremely slow. It took a really long time to place our order, get drink refills and to get our food. I'm not sure why it was so slow since the restaurant was not busy at all. Since moving to Montgomery from VA last July, we've been searching for a good, cheap, hits the stop Mexican place just like our favorite back home.. Thanks to yelp, I stumbled across San Marcos.... and thanks to a dog who jumped on the counter and at our planned supper, we make the trek to San Marcos tonight... The chips and salsa were free flowing. The service was incredible, quick and efficient... something I feel like Montgomery typically lacks. The bathroom was squeaky clean, which was very impressive considering the traffic in and out of this little divey joint.. The best part-- Wednesday night, buy one dinner, get the 2nd for $1.25. My husband and I ate for, tax, tip included for $12.00. I hate tamales, rice and beans (and brought half home), he had chicken taco, beef enchilada, chili relleno, rice and beans. Everyone around us was enjoying a slushy margarita, which I will return for once this baby growing inside of me comes into the world... So I'm not a very picky person when it comes to food. It's pretty easy to please me as a big food fan in general, but today was the first time I actually thought a meal sucked in a while. My usual go to at Mexican restaurants is a Chile relleno. Now I'm from California so I don't know if Chile rellenos are made different here, but that was no Chile relleno. It was basically one stuffed bell pepper cut in half served as two Chile rellenos smothered in cheese. It wasn't battered or fried, and just filled with ground beef. Wish I would of read the reviews before I ordered. On more positive note though the puerco Verde aka Chile Verde was good. Also for the party size we had service was pretty speedy. Best Mexican food in Wetumpka, been going to this place for years now and love it. When you order your food, it gets out to you in only a minute or so. Sometimes I wonder how they make this stuff so quickly. Their menu has something for pretty much everybody, and the prices are reasonable.
