The music was good and that's why I dropped in one evening a week and a half ago. However, they have this angry Irish bartender that was picking fights with several customers. Additionally, he sat at the end of the bar ignoring customers while he visited with friends. He complained when the customers gave him smaller tips and was rude the entire evening. You couldn't say anything without him yelling at or arguing with you. Not sure if this is the vibe the place is going for, but I will not be returning. I planned a reception for my organization's conference in San Jac's private event space and it was awesome! The staff was so friendly and professional and the space was awesome. The second floor Jack's Room has a retractable roof that just added a nice element and makes the space very COVID-friendly. Would highly recommend San Jac for a company party or reception. read more

We stopped in here around 11pm on a Friday night to listen to some music and have a quick drink with my brother and sister-in-law. There was no cover charge. It's not a very big place, but the bartender was friendly and the music sounded better that what we had heard from the other bars we had walked by. They have a dance floor downstairs in front of the stage, and some stools and bench seats upstairs with a few big barrels for tables. The place was fairly clean for a bar in a college part of the city, and the crowd seemed to really enjoy the music. We stayed for about 45 minutes before heading out to our next spot. Dublin fucking Johnnyyyyyy! Captured my brother and I with his life story. Brought tears to the eyes of our unemotional souls. It was so unintentional on Johnny's part but man, we both felt like we could live upstairs of San Jac and never have to leave. Literally didn't even know he was the bartender, thought he was just a man standing outside chit chatting with us. Was denied entry because I'm black. The bouncer tried to play it off and said he couldn't let me in because I looked homeless. I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious. He let others who were similarly dressed go in without a problem. I asked everyone who he let in if, to them, I looked like a homeless person..they all said no. He asked me to stop, saying that what I was doing was going to hurt their business. He finally called the police. Police told me there was nothing they could do since each place has the right to refuse entry. I wasn't going to go in there after being treated like that. If you're black/brown, the bouncer will find a reason to not let you in. read more

We have stopped by San Jac over the last few years, we live a walk away. We love their live music and TX country. It's a fairly basic tourist stop honestly -- live music, country, drinks. However, tonight we watched a female performer get harassed by men twice the size of her. After addressing the bartender with the concerns we had (we are not hyper-feminist or any of the above by any means) and being turned away with "ok, whatever," we went to another manager. He was very understanding, and considerate, but also not completely sympathetic to what his performer went through. He heard us out, and asked questions, but I don't think we will be back. Choose how you want on a trip to 6th street, but we've been here for 8+ years and know plenty of places with good people who deserve your money. read more

San Jac and Jack's upstairs are my go-to bars in Austin. They always have a fun crowd, great drinks, friendly bartenders and a great live music line up. The bar crowd skews a bit older so you can avoid a lot of the "new college drinker" chaos that some of the bars on 6th seem to deal with. Even when I go months between a visit I get treated like an old friend when I go back and that's pretty nice. I always look forward to my next visit. read more

This place is amazing! So we heard Jared was part owner and so we stopped by. We went earlier in the day and we had a puppy with us. We met this amazing man with a beard (We think Brian?) he was so welcoming! He had us take a group photo AND he let us bring our puppy inside. I bought a couple shirts and we weren't planning on returning for the night since we had a reservation at FBBC at 6:00 PM. However unfortunately our two transgender friends had a bad time... Let's go back to San Jac they made us all feel so welcome and Jared and the other owner know how to run a bar. ID checks TOOK 2 SECONDS FOR EVERYONE We went back inside and the process was easy and we went back inside and walked upstairs. We spent 70 dollars on an Uber just to come back!! Brian was gone which made us sad because we wanted to tell him how absolutely incredible he is. But we met this very nice Irish man upstairs and he was incredible! He fist bumped one of us and we handed him a tip and man he was such a gem. The music in both areas was rockin and we felt so welcomed and at home at this bar. You see... we had some charity shirts for Jensen and Jared because I run an organization called Castiel's Angels and they needed updated t-shirts with their new television roles and charity organizations. We were told by Brian to bring them to brewery but after what happened we were like ... no let's bring it to San Jac. They took the shirts and we are confident Jared will get them without an issue. We will be back when we come back to Texas. We are originally from Nevada, Oklahoma, and California and this road trip was supposed to be special. Seriously I took a day trip to Austin in the middle of midterm week to relax a little bit and my best friend and I stopped at this bar. Needless to say we stayed here until we had to go back to Houston. We instantly befriended the bartender, Curtis. Who, by the way, is the shit! We were walking around 6th Street and the music drew us in. It was beautiful and soothing. We grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and since I was feeling sick, I didn't order anything to drink. It was so nice that they did not pressure me to get a drink and my friend made up for me with her margaritas. Went here with a few friends on a Tuesday, just looking to show them what a fun place Austin is. We showed IDs walking in and the woman checking them seemed happy to let us in, until she decided to immediately chase us down and tell us to leave because she felt we were to drunk to be serve we politely asked why she felt that way, given this was our first stop of the evening, and she stated that our pro athlete friend was dragging his ankle (he's currently recovering from an injury).
