Dirty 6th is not our vibe, but a few businesses still bring us here. San Jac is one of them as it has a great bartender, strong pours, and usually good CW music. Be aware that we have been one and done due to the band playing. However, the Carr sisters are now playing on Saturday afternoons and they always keep us there for a few sets. They are CW with a rock twist think Johnny Cash followed by Bruce Springsteen. San Jac has a long bar but there is seating by the dance floor, in the back area, and on a 2nd level. Drinks are relatively inexpensive for Dirty and as mentioned earlier you get a healthy pour. They have a decent local craft beer selection and some top-shelf bourbon, tequila, and.... It's gritty with lots of rustic wood all around and when I was there a country singer entertained those drinking inside. I tossed a few bucks in his bucket to keep the music flowing in Austin. The bartender is no thrills but will serve you the finest beer or drink. But keep it simple is the way here. No foo foo concoctions here. He is very serious and protective of keeping his paying guest happy. Besides bar seating there are tables and stairs leading up to probably once a brothel. This review is solely for the bartender who was working on Halloween weekend. My friends rented the top floor of the bar for their wedding party, and the area is perfectly sized to accommodate about 80 people. Unfortunately, the bartender was the absolute worst. I've worked in the industry for years, and for a bartender to work a private party and does not know how to make an old fashion is horrible. If you are going to be a bartender and work a private party, you should have the experience and expertise to make cocktails and have a good attitude. The bartender was the complete opposite. He was very offensive, rude, mean, and couldn't comprehend how to make any cocktail. If you can't take a paying customer's order without attitude then you're definitely in the wrong work industry. This guy was so rude and even had the audacity to yell at us who were solely there to celebrate our friends prenuptials. This guy was unprofessional and disgusting with his attitude and the words that came out of his mouth. He even called me a "b!t@h" that was crossing the line to say that to a paying customer. Not only was I offended but he did this to multiple people!! Because we all started getting upset at him he lied and told his manager we were being racist . Wtf?! Right when we thought we'd never get our western saloon experience we walked by this place. Instantly we could see the difference between here and everywhere else on 6th street. Maybe it was since it was on a dry Wednesday night. Maybe it was the corner location. Maybe it was born then grew that way: all wood and tans and patina. The only bar that looked the way anyone who lives far away from Texas thinks that all bars in Texas look like. One of us said, "Looks as classy as we're gonna get." In hindsight this was probably true. Got the country vibe we'd been missing. Bartenders were chill; the man upstairs on 7/13/22 was the greatest. Drinks were had, culture was taught, Shuffleboard was played. All that was missing were cowboys and live music, but still gonna say this was one of the better bars on the dirty ol strip. read more

Hands down, my favorite bar in Austin! We went 2 nights in a row. My only regret is that I didn't take more pictures of this cool bar. We saw this talented sister duo both nights. The bar was only a couple of blocks from our hotel, so we started our "crawl" here. Not sure if they served food. This was a bar that felt local to me. We stopped in Austin for a night on our way back to Kansas from a trip to the Galveston area, after our original trip to FL was halted by Hurricane Helene. If my husband and I are downtown we usually stop in for a drink here. Brian behind the bar is always fun to talk to and Johnny is always nice. I like this place because the bathrooms are decent for a bar, they have live music, there is a ring/hook game, and they serve cider. Upstairs the other night they were having a comedy show which we sadly had to miss due to having other plans that evening. I am a NATIVE so 6th street is not a place I would visit but I am a DIEHARD SAM/DEAN FAN.... so yes I had to make the 3.5 hour drive from KATY TEXAS to this bar. I also stopped off at the brewery too just to pay my respects before my big move.
