I must admit that since there aren't any other Mom & Pop Korean places in Fort Worth that I know of, this is what I've set my sights on for years. They do good take out and dine in. The meats are very flavorful. Some of my favorite dishes include the Samgyupsal (pork belly with two side dipping sauces), LA Galbi (marinated beef ribs), and kimchi dolsot bibimbap (kimchi with beef & rice & hot sauce in a hot stone bowl). I also like their spicy sautéed squid (Ojingeo Bokkeum) mixed with their Spicy pork Bulgogi! Downsides: Their kimchi is super fermented, as is their radish, and the pancakes sometimes come out a little burnt. Also, the wait time can be brutal, because they don't have a lot of help. But if you don't mind that, and you live in Fort Worth, I highly suggest you try some of the dishes I mentioned; most of which come with a side of steamed white rice. It's authentic with the little bowls of goodies offered first (I'm sure there's a name for it, but we are Vietnamese junkies, personally, so I'm not up to par with Korean lingo). Fantastic food and service! My favorite thing are the side dishes that come with the meal

While it looks very discreet from the outside, it's tucked away in the corner of a quiet shopping area, the inside looks nice and authentic. However, I wasn't expecting to pay so much money for 3 people to try Korean bbq for the first time. There were only two waitresses working and with a big "now hiring" sign out front, I understand they're short-staffed. Our main problem was working through the language barrier. While we speak multiple languages, Korean isn't one of them. And excited to try something completely new, we had a hard time getting our questions answered from the first waitress that was helping us. We managed to get a table with a grill, despite her best efforts to sit us on a regular table. While we looked around the menu, she told us that for the grill, we only had two options on the menu. We asked if we could add something else from the regular menu and she very sternly said no. Only the first two items. Being three of us, we had to go along with her and ordered two of the #1 and one of #2. Also managed to order some dumplings after much pleading with her. Once we got some drinks, the second waitress came by to let us know that we could only have the #1 since they were out of the #2 option. She quickly clarified our questions regarding how the bbq worked and went back to work. There were no language barriers with her at all. Once the food arrived, the dumplings were delicious. Pickled veggies and all the sides were fantastic. The meat however was quite disappointing. Since we were forced to order 3 of the same order, I had nothing else to eat other than all the sides. The soup that was supposed to come with the dumplings didn't show up till mid way of our meal. The meat was chewy and not very flavorful. After about an hour of struggling to cook our meat, the second waitress came by to give us instructions on how to operate the grill, all the instructions are in Korean so we didn't want to mess with it without instructions. We finally got the rest of the meat cooked and finished our dinner. The second waitress did come by and apologized for not checking in on us sooner. While I absolutely understand being slammed with people and being so short-staffed, we really didn't like the meat option, that we were forced to only selected from the two grill options and how expensive it was. $95 for 3 people seems excessive. Disappointing to say the least. Will probably go try one of the restaurants in Arlington next time. read more

This is the closest authentic Korean restaurant and it helps that they have good tasting food too! I love Korean food and the banchans included with an entree. My fave is the spicy pork-you get a pretty good portion when ordering the large. This place is my go-to. I visited for the first time today, and I must say I was quite pleased overall. Arriving at the restaurant you are first struck by just how ugly the run down old shopping center it is located in is. That said the interior is nice enough if not particularly inviting. My first clue that I was on the right track was when I realized we were the only people in the place not speaking Korean. Always a good sign. Food wise, we stuck to the basics. the 3 of us (My 7 year old, his mom and I) ordered the Shawoo Tikim (tempura style shrimp) and Goon Mandoo (pan fried dumplings) then split regular sized orders of L.A. Galbi and Bulgogi. To be honest neither appetizer was amazing, just rather pedestrian. The shrimp tempura was definitely more heavily battered than I would prefer, and the dumplings were a bit on the bland side. Not bad by any means,but not in any way memorable. Next time I would be more inclined to order one of the pancake options on the menu. If the appetizers were less than stellar, the rest more than made up for it. The banchan (small side dishes) were all quite good, and generous with 8 different sides, including the expected potato,kimchi, bean sprouts, and spicy cucumber. That said,the star of the meal was the meat. The bulgogi was good. Tender and the marinade had enough nuttiness from sesame to keep it from being the typical "sweet" meat I too often get. The galbi was excellent. The sweet sauce that was slightly glazed on the meat was given an extra boost of sweetness of the abundant fat on the ribs. In total it was quite good. As another reviewer noted, it isn't quite what you would find in Carrollton (or East Plano for that matter), but I will give Sam Won Garden it's due. It is a very solid, enjoyable place. Living in Fort Worth, aside from typical American fare and Mexican, Asian food is slim pickings, especially Korean. Sam Won Garden helps fill my cravings but also doesn't exactly do it. Kim Chi Jjgae or stew is my favorite Korean dish. Hot, spicy, hearty is how it should be. The one here lacks a lot of those punches. I've had other things here too and let's just say I've had better. Tarrant County's only Korean restaurant. It is a very modest venue. Having said that, it is always very clean, including the restrooms. This is a terrific family restaurant. The food is as good as any Korean food I have had, which is substantial. To enjoy it, you just have to embrace what it is. Don't go here expecting corporate produced menus and chain restaurant training programs. Service is attentive, but relaxed. If you are interested in this restaurant you already know that Korean cuisine is, shall we say, flavorful. Having accepted that paradigm, the varieties of flavors and textures with which you will be presented are a real treat. I like it a lot. Visiting Fort Worth for family/work and long days and indecisive planning meant it was after 9pm on a Sunday and I have myself and 3 hungry boys that want to eat. Being from Nevada I'm used to lots of options late night 7 days a week. What I really wanted was bbq, but nothing being open I found this place on yelp and it was open! I broke my rule of trying to get seated within 30 minutes of close because we were so hungry, I called ahead of time to see when last seating was and the girl who answered the phone answered without any hesitation. Even though she told us the time of last seating and we arrived just within 10 minutes of it, she never ever made us feel anything but welcome. I am fully fully aware that this was a pretty big foul in the eyes of most service industry people, but we were hungry! Generally I prefer to cook my own kalbi, but seeing as we were so late I have to give them an understanding pass for serving us the meat cooked. We ordered 3 large L.A. style kalbi and one of spicy bbq chicken, along with an order of vegetable japchae and leek and green onion pancake. (what? I told you we were hungry!). The pancake was so good, chewy and crispy and hot. The japchae was much more sparse than I'm used to, just noodles and some slices of zucchini and onion, but it had good flavor. (I like some spinach, mushrooms, carrot, and beef in my japchae). The banchan selection was pretty good and they were generous with any requests for refills. I did have to request ssam and sauces, but they were happily provided. All the food was satisfying and the service super friendly. I won't say they are the absolute best korean food I've ever had (my grandma gets that honor) but they were very good and priced well. read more

I went 5/24/2011 and the restaurant is NOT closed. There is a for lease sign next to the restaurant but that is for another shop in the strip mall. So do not be fooled by the 1 star review below saying they are closed. We ordered the fried dumplings, LA Galbi (large), and barbeque chicken (large) for three people. I think in future we would need three entrees rather than two entrees and an appetizer. The large entrees aren't small, but they aren't huge either. The kimchis were good, very typical of what I expect to see, no real "surprises" but they were all tasty. We each were given a bowl of miso soup as well. The barbeque chicken had a great flavor and a bit of kick. Not too much to eat but definitely had some hot pepper in it. The galbi was delicious although some pieces were a little fatty (that kind of goes with the territory with rib meat though). The dumplings were decent, had an interesting flavor, I think they might have had some kind of legume / soy paste in them as well as meat/veggies. I probably wouldn't order them again but I'm glad I tried them. All in all a very good meal. I would give them a 4.5, the only reason I'm rounding down is that I would have expected the large portions to be a little larger and though the kimchis were good there wasn't one that made me shout, bring me more of this! (Which has happened at some other places). That said this is a perfectly nice option to have nearby. It's much closer than OMI, which isn't so much better that it would be worth driving an hour vs. 15 minutes to visit. read more

Roommate had a hankering for galbi, so I took him here. This is a very homey family restaurant run by two very nice Korean ladies. For a second I thought only Koreans frequented this place, but at around dinner time, everyone was here. The waitress was nice enough to explain the menu and make recommendations to a couple of ladies who were trying Korean food for the first time. We ordered the pan-fried pork with tofu and kimchi, LA galbi and japchae. All was good, typical of Korean restaurants in NYC and Korea. Side dishes and the kimchi were also good--you can purchase them in small and large sizes to eat at home, though they weren't mind blowing or anything. In town these two weeks for school, already homesick. I'm Korean and this was like the only Korean restaurant around this part of Fort Worth. What can I say, I miss my people's food. I cant survive two weeks without at least one Asian meal. Went in, gave a nod to the owner who was friendly. Food was good and waitress was attentive. Restrooms clean. Interior feels like a typical Korean restaurant but oddly enough there was something Texan about it, not sure what (I'll add if I remember) Might be hard to find at night since it's dark. The sign of the restaurant isn't that bright and the plaza is pretty dark. Price is good and affordable. Don't complain it's expensive because it's not. You don't know expensive until you come to Los Angeles. Oh and your tax is lower than California, nice. read more

I have to admit that I have not had much Korean food before so I cannot really compare this to other Korean restaurants. That said, I know good food when I find it. I live with foodies that are quite picky and I have to say my palate has had quite the adjustment! (LOL!) Everyone there was just so nice and friendly. The food was made fresh and hot. The grease was clean and the tempura was just right. I had not known there was Korean sushi or if that is a common thing but they have it and it was delicious. Here is our meal. My boyfriend got the equivalent of a Korean Bento box. I had the Korean barbecue which is in front of me. The food was absolutely delicious and we're definitely going back there again. When we went it was during a slow time that was a late lunch. So I can't speak to how they are when they are busy but I am very pleased and highly recommend this restaurant for Korean barbecue. read more

Wow wow, finally find a Korean place near DFW area that has fresh galbi and authentic Korean food. As I wrote in the other reviews, I usually visit a place more than twice to actually write a review, because you know, humans have bad and good days. Although outside it looks quite old, it's nice inside, the food comes out fresh and hot, servers are friendly and the price is good for a Korean place. You will have to wait a little bit long before the food comes out (about 15-20 minutes, don't complain yet, they have to grill the meat guys :D!). We usually order LA galbi plate, regular size, it fits 2 of us, good taste, good smell, good looking, and good "touch" (haha I use 5 senses when I taste a good thing). I think it comes with the sides, which you can refill later (because they are good and you definitely need more). I usually like to order one of the hot soup, but it's fair, nothing special so I don't recommend the soup (that's why I gave 4 stars :( ). The bibimbap is quite normal too, but overall, it's ok enough for me to order it the next time I come in. The bill is about $35 for 2 people! I like this place, definitely recommend for people who are craving for Korean food near DFW, just don't forget to order galbi! read more

A great find in the area! I have been to many Korean restaurants in dfw area and can say that this place is pretty good and definitely not lacking. The service is great and friendly. Place is good size. We ordered soondobu (soon tofu jigae) and LA Galbi You can order two meats to grill your own. The soondobu is really good. Very flavorful. Good spicy not too much but not lacking. We ate the last drop of it. The tofu is super silky soft the seafood in it tasted good. LA Galbi is pretty decent. Meat is tender but I would like it to be a bit more saucy but still pretty good. We ate it all. Banchan is fantastic. Great variety. Gimchi is a tad too sour for my taste but the fish cake and potato made up for that Overall a pleasant experience. Price is pretty reasonable. I'll admit it, this was my first time trying Korean BBQ, so rating the food is a little out of my element. Sam Won Garden is a family run place with a quaint space, friendly staff, and average service speed. The dishes were plentiful and flavorful, but some were a bit complex for my palate. We tried a lot of different items, beef BBQ, pork belly, kimchee and beef, seafood pancake, and pan seared dumplings. The beef BBQ (bulgogi) and the pork belly were wonderful, and we liked the dumplings and the pancake. I wouldn't reorder the kimchee and beef as it had a bitter aftertaste. The meal was served with a vast array of sides including kimchee, pickled bean sprouts and cucumbers, potatoes, fish strips, noodles, broccoli, and radishes. The sides were received with varying success depending on preference. Good experience that I am glad I tried. Would visit again to expand my horizons (and waistline). read more
