Came in for lunch with some family and got seated fairly quickly. They told us they were out of kimchi so we couldnt get anything with kimchi in the menu. So we decided to get some lunch bentos and the hot stone bibimbap and a seafood korean pancake. The pancake was good a little salty but overall good for sharing. I liked my marinated spicy chicken bento and felt that it was quite filling. The hot stone bibimbap was just okay but probably because we got it with tofu and not with any other meats. There's plenty of seating inside and bar seating too. Seems like a spot where people come for lunch during work. Its not the best korean food I've had but would recommend for a lunch spot if I was near by and wanted something different than what's near by. A modern take on Korean food and definitely not fully authentic. It's right in the middle of downtown Fort Worth. My (Korean) mother in law was not impressed and she wasn't very happy that they did not have kimchi jjigae. I was kind of bummed about that too, since I wanted to order that as well :( they don't serve banchan for the table like most Korean restaurants, it's only served individually with certain meals and it's a tiny portion btw... I opted for the fried chicken as my meal even though it's a "starter" on the menu. My husband ordered the chicken katsu and my in-laws both ordered the bibimbap. Food came out at a reasonable time and pricing was reasonable as well. Aesthetic was the best part for me. The only thing that felt "Korean", minimalistic decor and aesthetic. Excited to see this open in downtown Ft Worth! Overall this was just ok. Service was friendly....when you could get your server. There would be big lapses of time when we didn't see our server. Food was average. The Korean fried chicken is not authentic nor good, think of breaded chicken tenders. The seafood pancake was under-done. Soontofu soup was spectacular and must order. Bimbimbap and the bento box (bulgogi) was just ok. Funnily enough THERE WAS NO KIMCHI. The banchan (side dishes) were mashed potatoes, pickles and radish. While the banchan portions are on the smaller side and don't have much variety, they did taste good. I think they updated the menu since the last reviewer about the kimchi jjigae because it was on the menu. I ordered it and it tasted quite good. Server was polite and prompt. We walked over to Hoya from our hotel and was so glad we did. Unfortunately during our visit, they were out of Kimchi and Galbi. The main staples of a Korean BB1 joint. * sad face. We decided on getting the combo Bento box for my kids. We got the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon. The combo was definitely plentiful with rice, salad, 3 dumplings, and noodle banchan. The dressing on the salad was delicious! Kids enjoyed their dishes. My husband and I split the Soontofu J Jigae (hot stew pot) and Bulgulgi Dolsot Bibimbop. The servings were huge! Perfect for sharing between 2 people. I highly recommend splitting the soup and bibimbop as eating the soup together with your selected protein really compliment each other and IMO, best way to eat Koren BBQ. The Bulgulgi was really good and not too sweet. I prefer savory side of my meats. I really wanted galbi but as mentioned before, they were out of it. Im not sure of their banchan was unlimited like im used too, bc i didn't ask. The banchan were just a a few slices. The protein servings were ample. Our server was kind but not much to elaborate on. The place is small and quaint. Great location in downtown and walking distance to the Sundance square. If we come back to the area, we would definitely try again and hopefully have their kim chi and glabi available. Overall, we'd recommend the place. YUCK! I tried to dine here while on jury duty and was extremely disappointed. The cheapest lunch thing to order was almost $20 and the portion was laughable! The waitresses took nearly 5 mins to greet me then 10 mins to being water and the glass was dirty. I ordered the chicken bimbamp bowl and the portion was a joke, maybe 1/2 cup of rice spread across the bottom which was mostly burnt and still sizzling/cooking upon delivery, with lots of day old veggies atop. I hate to give it two stars because our server was super sweet, but I can't say I'd come back. Korean fried chicken - this appetizer was the best thing in the meal. Happy to say it was crispy and hot! (We were scared due to some other reviews) The sauce was sweet and sour, it was ok but not the most memorable. Beef bulgogi - unfortunately, I'd have to rank this pretty low among all the beef bulgogis I've had. Not very aromatic, no strong bulgogi flavor, and the meat looked a bit underwhelming visually. Spicy pork bibimbap - this was alright, but the bowl had less topping variety than most bibimbap bowls I've had. The pork itself was ok, but not memorable either. The gochujang sauce was good though! Mango colada iced tea (signature drink) - I hate to say that this was one of the worst drinks I've had. Certainly no colada flavor, barely any flavor really. And for some reason the drink was stinky. The service was pretty subpar. We weren't greeted by our waiter once we sat at our table for quite some time, so much that the neighboring table even commented on it! And trying to pay was chaotic because there were 3 or 4 tables who'd all been waiting a while, and everyone crowded the front desk once someone finally came. On our way to lunch, we happened by Hoya and my boss said it was really good so we decided to stop in. They staff was very nice and though we were a large group they found a great spot for us. The place looks small but it was a nice elegant feel associated with it. The downtown atmosphere evaporates and you're left just focusing on chatting with friends and colleagues. Now, the food was amazing. I had the chicken katzu bento box and it was so good. The katzu sauce was a little on the sweet side, but otherwise delicious. The japchea was refreshing on a hot summer day. The dressing on the salad was like a ginger dressing, it was pretty tasty. We also split some kimchi fries which were good and some pieces had a spicy kick but nothing too much. I can't wait to come back! read more

Coming from Los Angeles which contains the largest population of Koreans outside of Korea, I'm aware that I've been spoiled in having the opportunity to have authentic Korean food. So I was pleasantly surprised to find this spot in Fort Worth. It's a cute clean family owned spot. The Korean owner/cook lady came out to check on the customers which was nice. The server was friendly and the food came out fast. This hit my hankering for Asian food while on a work trip. Yet being from LA where there's Koreatown chock full of Korean restaurants, I wish there was banchan and spicier flavors in the soon tofu. It was still good, yet not as authentic and flavorful as Korean restaurants frequented by Koreans. The Kimchee fries were interesting, and could have used more kimchi. The seafood tofu was good, but could have more flavorful. A small ramekin of kimchi is available upon request. I assume the lack of banchan and spiciness in the food is that not many Fort Worth residents are familiar with that. I enjoyed my experience and was happy to find this place, yet if you're a Korean food foodie, be aware that while the food is good, it's more catered toward a non-Asian palate. read more

I've never had Korean bbq. This was a first and we came here on a recommendation from my son and his wife. What's a quaint little place downtown. Here for a show at Bass Hall and we loved it. I believe Hoya's starters are more worth your tastebuds as opposed to their main dishes. I got the Mild Jin Ramen and the noodles were quite soggy and the broth was not as rich in flavor as I'd liked. The kimchi fries were really good, although there was barely any kimchi in it. The mando was by far my favorite thing we got and I would get it again. The place is rather small, but you can park in the garage next door and get 2 hours worth of free parking. This restaurant is a nice option for a quick meal. The food: came out fast and was tasty. Many of the menu options seem like they're pre-made or are warmed up. I was caught off guard to see that on the menu the Ramen stated that it is a packaged Ramen and prepared at the restaurant. The chicken was good. It didn't taste like chicken, but it was still good with a slightly spicy seasoning. The egg rolls were yummy. I'm not sure if they were pre-made and fried when ordered but they definitely did the job for me. The Ambiance: the ambiance is nice. It's dimly lit, bare tables, with some pop music playing in the background. The service: the service was good. Our waitress attended to our needs. They were accommodating for sure. I come here anytime I'm in town for work or vacation. I always bring my friends and family and it's always a hit. The shop is cute, the service is great and the food is even better. If you want servers to be extremely aggressive with handling your request, cough on you and your food, and crash out when you decide to split the checks because she's incompetent in managing who ordered what, dine here :) great food, but service was probably the worst I've ever experienced. Don't blame a convention for why you cannot upkeep service. People understand busy restaurant times, they cannot understand rudeness and unprofessional behavior in an establishment that is open to the public. If you're going to serve, serve, no excuse. We had the waitress literally tell us we cannot order drinks. It's too busy for her. While we saw other people drinking around us. We asked her how so, and she corrected herself and said oh you can order simple drinks like beers and souju. We even worked with her to make the life easy. Whew people wanted a recommendation on food and she was quick to dismiss. When I tell you this girl missed her boat at working for dicks last resort, this is an understatement. We love a good Bibimbap and this place delivered. We started with egg rolls and kimchi cucumbers. Both were delicious. We followed with Bibimbap. I had tofu and my husband had salmon. The bowls are served on a hot stone so it is piping hot and gets the rice sticky in the bottom. YUM. Everything was served very efficiently and quickly, and was hot and fresh.
