I'm not a big sushi eater but I've been thinking about this place since I've eaten there lol The restaurant was fairly quiet compared to most places I've dined at, which I didn't mine because I was able to enjoy the anime that they had playing while we enjoyed our meal. I ordered the fried Chicken dumplings and the Phoenix Tail Rolls that were so amazing! I loved the tempura texture on the outside of the sushi roll. Samurai is a small Japanese restaurant with limited seating. It does not even have a bar, but the food is absolutely fantastic. There was only one server on this particular rainy Sunday, but she did a great job. The tuna tataki appetizer was delicious, 6 pieces of tuna for $12.50, but I didn't mind because it was worth every penny. The phoenix tail sushi roll was bang on. Great place to go for lunch! My friend and I went there after we saw that lunch combo and we were really happy with the food! I think I got the angry tuna roll, the happy salmon roll, and spicy tuna. The rolls were the perfect size, and more importantly - rice was seasoned really well! Any place that seasons their rice well sits well with me. Love that they're all great portions too, you'll definitely have enough to eat because it comes with a soup and salad as well. Also got the takoyaki, which was good - but could be better. It's been years since I came back, so it's nice to see their business doing well since I used to go here before they remodeled the place and moved from next door. The owners were such humble and hardworking people. And I'm glad that hasn't changed along with the wonderful and attentive service. I tend to get the same rolls when I go out for sushi, such as the Dragon and Philly roll. We also got one of the special rolls that I love from here: the angry tuna roll. Our third visit here, and just as impressive as the last two. The restaurant is almost unnoticeable in a strip building on 23rd, but the interior design would make you think you a very special place designed to forget the outside world. Ambience is calming and peaceful. The sushi is fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. Clearly all very fresh ingredients made by a sushi chef who takes pride in her work. We had Kanisu and it was a new taste, and definitely something to enjoy again next visit. Crab and avocado surrounded by cold, thinly sliced cucumber - looked like a sushi roll. The added sesame seeds and rice vinegar made it outstanding. We had The Hawaiian Roll with soy paper and the flavors were outstanding. Coconut on the shrimp shrimp that tasted like it was just shaved, and the cold mango and avocado on top finished off the tropical flair. Excellent! The Volcano Roll was unrecognizable, as it was topped with a completely different look of crab, shrimp and scallops, along with thinly sliced crispy onion. Not smothered with sauce. It was definitely a favorite. We have enjoyed everything so far, and judging from the consistency we have seen thus far, I don't think we will ever find anything that is not outstanding! Topping off the food is the impeccable service by the staff - waiters are efficient and helpful and the sushi chef takes a pride in her work like none other. A plus service all the way around. It's. I would just stop in for lunch some times bc they didn't really have a big enough space for bringing people for dinners or serve liquor so I always skipped the place at night. Even thou the owners are also from NYC like me & are very cool people. It was just too tight a space, there wasn't any sushi bar area & they didn't serve beer, wine or sake :( Well, I'm happy to announce that has all changed! Samurai moved into a brand new space next door. They still have the same address its just a new space. It's finished out nicely too with a cool water feature at the entrance. There is a giant sushi bar now, they have a updated menu & they now serve beer, wine & sake. Yay! :)) I recently stopped by for lunch & had a chance to sample some of the new vegan rolls they have on the menu. I have always eaten at least 50% vegan but now so many of my fave restaurants are serving more & more yummy vegan I'm just 100% vegan now, hubby too. So I was pleasantly surprised to find some new awesome vegan rolls on their menu. I also had some vegetable tempura & it was a very tiny portion, but it was to die for. They have always had the best sushi for the best prices in OKC. Now that they serve beer, wine & sake & have more vegan options, I think this is my new fave sushi place in OKC. In the mood for sushi and decided to give this place a try.. only ordered edamame, a bowl of ramen and one sushi roll. The edamame came out after 15 min. Ramen came out after maybe 25 min. Kid you not, 30 min went by and still no sushi roll. If you're hungry, maybe eat before or just go somewhere else. Very disappointed, as it wasn't busy in the restaurant at all and waiting 30 min for a single sushi roll is kind of crazy. Side note, the Gulfport roll was delicious but not worth waiting 30 min for.
