I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious this bowl was. Healthy options were hard to come by in this neighborhood The bowl was freshly prepared and the ingredients were all well seasoned. Staff were super friendly and helpful as this was my first visit

a plate of chicken and rice

Man this hits the spot !!! Good food at an affordable price would highly recommend!!!!!

Not brown rice

The food is always good but is always so inconsistent the price is different every time the level of rice is different every time the extra vegetables are almost non-existent it's really not that hard to replace chicken with vegetables sometimes there's a charge sometime there isn't but you always have to bring it to their attention if I'm taking off chicken saying replace it with vegetables do I really need to pay extra money for that? It's like going to McDonald's you have to check the bag before you pull away from the drive-through!

The General Sam's Chicken Bowl looks as good as it tastes!

There's a specific reason why I am submitting a review of another chain. Samurai Sam's is close to work for me, but more importantly, the menu features more healthy options than the average fast food joint. This is important to me because I am still on my New Years diet. Frankly, I've eaten at this location several times over the last couple years, and I've never walked away regretting my lunch. The variety includes an all vegetable bowl to brown rice options and of course, the proverbial egg roll. Not to mention the variety of limited time menu items, such as my most recent selection. Me and a colleague stopped in for lunch this week and right away, the promo photo for General Sam's Chicken Bowl caught my eye. In fact, my photo (below) of the entree shows how appetizing this choice is. Plus, the sweet and spicy sauce sealed the deal. I requested brown rice and enjoyed every bite. Ask yourself this. When was the last time you saw snap peas in a fast food restaurant? The only down side to this location is the very crowded parking lot at lunch time. It feels narrow and there doesn't seem to be enough parking. If that's the case. You can always find room on 48th Street. Bottom line, the menu is always pretty tasty. And the only way to make it any healthier would involve walking to the restaurant.

I'm very picky with my teriyaki but this place is amazing. It's the only place in Arizona that I like. Customer service is always super nice too. I come here like once a week and it never disappoints.

Dec '25 - Recommend: Yes, but sticker prices may surprise you…read more Presentation: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Efficiency: 5/5 Customer Service: 5/5 Price: 3/5 Having lived in Tokyo for four years, this is a staple restaurant there! Doing it on par here, with what you would see overseas; critical to success... Upon walking in, we met Emily who graciously assisted us with perusing the very colorful, fully sized, digital touch menus; 2 stations are located right as you walk in. The store was justly cleaned, and decor was simple, appealing, light and spacious. We learned speaking with the brother of the owner that there are to be 10 franchises in total coming to the AZ territory and I can only hope they bring one to Tucson because this would be a hit!! Meal choices are accompanied by large, colorful pictures to help with your appetite! This place delivers various meals, all on a hot plate and side portions that come in a cute metal basket of sorts. I had the common Beef Pepper Rice with a side of Chicken Karagi. My daughter had the same but with chicken and a side of Kimchi. All was delish! The hot plate comes with a warning ribbon - warning you, as you should KNOW, that the cast iron plate is HOT. But alas, we are in America... The meals were quick and again, excellent customer service on top. The restaurant is located in an area that is close to ASU and will hopefully grow clientele quickly but getting support from ASU to share notification in surrounding restaurants/businesses, especially for the new students to know the area, is always a challenge so hopefully this review reaches out amongst the foodies in the area. In summary, it is a win for a restaurant but, unfortunately, the pricing for me is just too high... $50.00+ for two SIMPLE rice meals and two waters is absolutely not a winning combo. $50.00!!? I get it, it's around ASU but the pricing is just too high so I think they missed this out of the gate, and even coming down $4.00 on the meals would bring more in and repeatable customers. You don't even pay these prices in Japan. I would return, and will, but the pricing is more than I think people would want to pay, especially being around a college campus. Time will tell, but it was a nice visit and I wish them all the success as a new entry into the local area!

This was the only location close enough to walk from my hotel room (30 min walk) and it was worth it! I had the pleasure of being greeted by both Chris (server) and Miguel (chef/owner) when I walked in. I sat up at the bar and experienced friendly and fast customer service. It was slow when I dined in but Miguel kept me company the entire time as he prepped my order up. Chris helped recommended their specialty rolls that I had my eye on and they hit the spot. Both the Dragonball Roll and his personal favorite, Sad Boy Roll. I added the Agedashi Tofu as an appetizer and an Asahi large beer. I ate everything and left with no left overs. Miguel came with restaurant kitchen experience and his skills at beautifully wrapping the rolls shows! Please go give it a try yourselves and support his business! Its not fancy and the parking lot is small but don't pass it up! When you enter there's a small area with sushi bar seating and then there's a side room with more tables. Service is really friendly and attentive. The sushi is reasonably priced and very fresh. I got the pick 2 for $11 lunch special with a spicy tuna and an avocado roll. What a deal! I also got a miso soup and some kizami wasabi -- surprised they had this! I enjoyed watching sushi chef Miguel stay on top of orders and it turns out he's also the owner. Very cool. I love supporting local businesses like this and look forward to trying more rolls - they looked to have pretty extensive options. And a sign mentioned they do a burger in case you don't like sushi.

So many things looked so good on the menu. I also let the server know that I was hungry too lol! They were quick bringing out the food. I belive Dhillon was our server and he was great too. He helped us narrow down our choices. My friend and I shared the coconut chicken curry pot which was flavorful and had a great balance of meat, noodles, etc. Dhillon suggested sharing it as it was a good size and I'm glad we did. We also shared the tofu salad which was nice and flavorful and also the sweet potato rolls and green tea cheese cake. The only suggestion I would make is maybe putting a small bit of vanilla ice cream with the cheesecake instead of whip cream. My friend and I both thought that combo would hit the spot. Oh they also have a happy hour that starts at 9pm too. I think one of out items might have been off thr happy hour. Overall price was reasonable too. I will definitely be back!

The food was actually very good, which makes the experience even more disappointing because the…read moreservice was absolutely horrible. We were a party of 12 visiting on vacation, and none of us are from the area. We ordered spam musubi and a chicken skewer as appetizers. Both appetizers arrived well after our entrees had already been served and we had essentially finished eating. Each time we asked about them, we were repeatedly told, "They're coming." Mind you, these are simple appetizers that should not take anywhere near that long to prepare. When we asked for the third time, we finally asked that the appetizers be cancelled since we had already finished our meal. At that point, the gentleman working the front area , tall, with red hair, loudly yelled from across the restaurant, in an extremely rude and confrontational tone, "It's already on the grill!" There was absolutely no reason to speak to paying customers that way. His response was unprofessional, unnecessary, and honestly created a very hostile and uncomfortable feeling during what should have been an enjoyable dinner, especially while our group was on vacation and simply trying to enjoy a meal together. When the appetizers eventually came out, we left them sitting there because we were already done eating and ended up taking them to go. He eventually told us they would be removed from the bill, which we appreciated, but that did not excuse the way the situation was handled. Again, the food was good, but good food does not make up for poor service and especially not for an employee speaking to customers in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. Management should seriously address how customers are treated, because the interaction with this particular employee overshadowed what could have otherwise been a good dining experience for our party of 12.
