Wanted to try a local hookah spot for a pregame before a night out on the town on a Friday. We easily found street parking less than a full block away. They only had outdoor seating but there are misters and fans so it was fine. The music was 10/10 rap and hip hop throwbacks and newer songs. Definitely a vibe. Saw people out for girls night, dates, and friend groups. Everyone was having a great time and just having fun. Didn't try any food, but the hookah itself was yummy and lasted awhile. We got an ice hose which died out quickly since we were outside but it's okay. The server was friendly and they came around to check on the coals often, we didn't have to flag anyone down. Came here with some friends on a Saturday evening. The vibe was great and the DJ was really good! I was excited to try the food, but unfortunately our service was pretty slow, so I ended up sticking mostly to drinks. I tried their spin on a lemon drop and really enjoyed it. Where the experience fell short for me was when we closed out our tab. We noticed we had been charged for several items that weren't ours, and we weren't given an itemized receipt until we specifically asked for one. It took some back and forth to get everything sorted out, which was frustrating at the end of the night. A sad update: Saturday night at samsara and the koobideh was awesome as always. I understand restaurants are feeling the pinch. So are restaurant patrons and everyone else. Many, many years ago I was a waiter and subsequently I always tip well, even for mediocre service, it takes an act of real malice to get me not to tip for service. It's always been a tough job and these days it much better even harder. So when I received my check, and the 20% has been added I noticed and would have likely glossed over it but there was also a "non cash adjustment" of 4 %?! Sigh. No one asked me if I wanted to pay cash, who carries cash these days anyway? And credit card processing fees are typically less than 4%, why the surcharge? Why upset regulars who already tip 20%? Even with the magnificent kabob and rice, I left a bit sour. read more

DJ and music was on point, loved our server Ayla, food was good too with my only complaint that my rice was lacking seasoning but I fixed it with a little salt and pepper. Loved the chicken skewers and my mockjito. Where this 4 star experience dropped down to 3 is when our server had to close our tab as she was leaving. She was great and attentive, assuring us that someone would come by in case we needed water refills or wanted to order additional drinks. She left and so did our service. No one acknowledged us or even came over to say that they were taking over servicing our table. It's as if once our cards were swiped with the "20%" service fee, they couldn't care less. Would I return. I would for the music and to give this establishment another chance. Arrived here on a Sunday around 1. It wasn't super busy. We were only offered seating outside but later learned we could sit inside at the bar so we moved because it was hot. My friend raved about the food here so I was excited. I usually look at the menu before I go to a place but I didn't this time. I was looking forward to brunch foods but their menu doesn't have that. The options were slim and nothing really appealed to me but since I was drinking I ordered falafel to hold me over until we went somewhere else. It was supposed to come with mango sauce but came with tzatziki instead. Which was fine. I also got 2 Samsara smash drinks with guava and they were BOMB. My friend got chips & guac, which I tried and it was decent. She also got a Persian salad which she said was ok. My other friend got the falafel wrap (it was huge) & fries. She said it was good. The fries were hot & fresh. The server wasn't super attentive and would disappear for long periods of time. There isn't a lot of seating where you don't have to pay. I don't smoke hookah but my friends do and they appreciated the flavor options. The pricing was good. Music was great! I'd come back for drinks and music. read more

Update: The pandering towards people of color is ridiculous! These people want your money but do NOT want you frequenting their establishment, please understand! Make sure you check your bill as well because the waitress are tricky! The service is beyond horrible on a Sunday bc in their mind the people of color will still pay however the underlying tone of we don't want you here please go is extremely loud! It is also ridiculously hot and the music doesn't match the crowd, they're loud with the passive aggression! My 4 stars are now zero stars! I use to like the vibes even though the food has always been mid. I have got to experience it on a different level from a Sunday visit and it was so telling, smh. Samsara was recommended to by a friend who lives here and it did not disappoint. I like that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We decided to sit outdoors and even though it was a bit chilly in the evening, we barely noticed because they have outdoor heaters. They were out of the peach flavor we wanted to try so we got the Izzy on the Eyes Hookah. It tasted exactly as described: lemony, gingery, and minty! It was super light, fresh, and packed well. They rotate the coals frequently and it lasted the 1.5 hours we were there. The total came out to ~$40 and although I never saw the receipt (they just brought the credit card machine), I assume it was due to tax and an automatic tip (even though we were a party of 3). The place wasn't hard to find since it was downtown & the place is lit up & you can hear the music. I walked in security, checked my ID & he told me it's open seating.
