Sam's has been around a long time and in the restaurant business you have to respect that length of service. My wife used to live close to Highlander Point so she was a regular at Sam's years ago. My 40 year old son-in-law used to work in the kitchen for one of his first jobs. While they are in a different building now, she said it was wonderful to see their food and service is better than ever. In recent years, we were frequent patrons of the restaurant off Charlestown Rd that burned down so this was my first visit to the original location area. She ordered the Cold Water Whitefish Dinner with Baked Potato and a Side Salad. The whitefish is the best you will get anywhere.... and I mean anywhere. It is light, crispy, and absolutely delicious. Their side salad is large and includes cut up cucumbers, onion, radishes, and cheese. I ordered the Fried Seafood Combo with Slaw and Onion Rings. Wow, I had forgotten how wonderful those onion rings could be and shared them with everyone at the table. The clams, scallops and shrimp were excellent. We're so happy that Sam's was able to weather COVID. Now that we are back in Indiana, my better half can't wait to try the chicken tenders and the bread pudding.

Carry-out salmon which was small, overcooked baked potato and dry/flavorless biscuit.

We ordered carry-out from Sam's Food & Spirits a couple of days ago. I tried the salmon which was good, but small portion size, and baked potato that I could only eat half of because it was overcooked and burnt with a side salad that was fresh, but again, small portion size. As you can see in the photo, my meal didn't look appetizing as presented either. I'm glad we had sour cream at home because the restaurant forgot to include it. My husband ordered a fried seafood platter and enjoyed the small amount of fish as well as scallops, but he said everything else was just "okay." I didn't try the biscuit, but my husband said it was dry with absolutely no flavor. He was firm in his opinion that he'd rather go to a Red Lobster than give Sam's another chance. Unfortunately, I'd agree.

Potato skins are perfect pillows of soft inside and crisp edges with good real bacon bits. Potato soup was extra creamy, loaded with bacon and cheese on top. Blackened fish sandwich was not overly spiced, but tasty and flaky. Sweet tea is sweet. Desserts are a nice collection from a nearby bakery. The bread pudding is made in house. Eat at the bar side, nice small open space with quick service

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

I was going to a UofL women's basketball game and I FINALLY was able to make it here. I went a little overboard on the food, but everything sounded so good! I really loved the pork belly slider and the duck tacos. Mac and cheese balls always slap. Then there are the famous duck fat fries. The portion is substantial, I was thrilled with that. Flavor wise they did not change my life like I was hoping they would. Still ate them all. The locale is super unassuming from the street, but inside it is really cool, divey, and broody. The staff was super sweet and helped me get in and out efficiently so I could make it to the game. Would absolutely recommend, would absolutely come back, and would absolutely bring friends here.

She was very friendly and was not hesitant to make jokes to keep the good vibes! The restaurant opens the side doors to let fresh air in on a sunny day which is amazing if you don't want to sweat in the sun but still want to feel a nice breeze. The sliders were amazing, the chicken was not dry which is common in bar food places. The concept of every bread being rolls gives the hot dog an extra security when picking it up. Really excited to go back when the days are warmer and can enjoy the patio section!

The sunny side egg on the burger was really juicy and the Hawaiian Rolls made for an excellent bun. Even with all of the toppings (lettuce, red onion, white cheddar cheese, bacon, fried green tomatoes, a sunny side up egg and miso ranch) the flavor of the burger still shined through and was delicious! We also got the Hot Fries. The burger was delicious but the hot fries were my favorite part!! They were hot, crispy, and had so much flavor! I love hot things and loved the heat - I can see where they could be considered pretty hot to some an the heat does build if you eat several in a row but again I love this flavor profile. We also got the slaw to help balance the heat of the fries if needed. We got the order to go for lunch. We were impressed by the to go packaging. The bag is really sturdy and really fun! It may sound silly but their take out packing is by far my favorite I have ever seen! We plan on coming back to try some of their other food in the future and look forward to dining in and trying one of their several beers. The atmosphere looks really fun and inviting and everyone was very friendly.

Less than a mile from our hotel we came midday in between lunch and dinner so the place was pretty much empty with just a few other patrons. We could sit wherever so we chose a booth at the corner. This was an Americana style restaurant with classic steak, pork, chicken, and vegetarian dishes at reasonable prices. We placed our order for... BLACKENED SALMON - tender and seared. For an additional $1 I asked for bourbon glaze to be spread on my salmon. It was served on a bed of wild rice. The bourbon glaze was definitely a game-changer... the combination of sweet, smoky, and tangy flavors created a yummy flavor. CAJUN PORK CHOPS: not one but two thick cut pork chops brined & seared. Topped with Cajun butter. Husband shared a few bites with me and it had me craving for more. I just helped him finish his pork chops a little bit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Service was friendly but it can sometimes lack attention. There is ample free parking available in the public lots behind and adjacent to the restaurant. Instagram: @boomtown_kitchen Review #3877

Down to earth, accommodating, and personable. We got the nachos, which were decent, and split the two-piece fish and chips. The winner winner chicken dinner was the Old Fashioned, which might have been the best I've had in Louisville. Classy glass, stirring stick, luxardo cherries, and a big honking rock of ice. The drink was smooth and balanced, and I totally broke my rule of only having one (and paid for it the next day). It's quirky and cozy inside, and I'd definitely come back for a chill hang night with friends.
