2/29/24 I came here for a quick lunch, as I found this restaurant on Groupon. But unfortunately left with a Disappointing Experience at Chef Shaq Kitchen. The ambiance was neutral, nothing fancy. The menu promised an exotic twist on classic comfort foods. Naturally, I was Intrigued and ordered their exotic fries with shrimp and wings covered in Parmesan cheese. I was expecting a burst of flavor based on the menu description. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. The dish arrived underwhelming, with an excessive greasiness that left a heavy feeling in my stomach. The wings were overly saturated in butter, masking any hint of Parmesan cheese flavor. Our never ending endeavor to find the perfect meal landed us at stop #1 of the night: Chef Shaq's Kitchen @chekshaqkitchen on South 5th street in downtown Louisville. We shared sweet potato fries and zucchini fries, both with aioli. My wife had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with crinkle fries. I had the Bring It On Salad. The Nashville Hot sandwich was, quite possibly, the best chicken sandwich either of us has ever had, likely attributed to a buttermilk taste and delicious slaw! They were out of turkey for my salad but substituted a generous portion of grilled chicken instead. As you can see from the pictures, the food presentation was top notch! Service was top notch (seriously some of the most knowledgable and friendly staff around)! Aniya M was great! The place was comfortably busy with dine-in and delivery service orders. The only other thing that bares mentioning is that the place is hot!!!! It's 93 degrees out and the A/C had trouble keeping up so they had a fan out, which didn't help much. We ordered takeout for lunch. Order was ready in a timely manner -- considering the time people have for lunch, this is a decent stop to add if you're working downtown. I was bummed that the item I wanted was unavailable -- cod fish sandwich. So I ended up with the Nashville hot check in sandwich. It was okay. It was not spicy, so if you want a Nashville hot chicken but you're afraid of spices, this one would fit the bill. Time to give it a try! If I'm in the area again, I would give them another try. The wings were pretty good. The fries weren't cooked the order. If they were, they cooked them first and let them cool. ?? The burger patty was reminiscent of a school cafeteria, so not good. The reason for 1 star is the restroom. It is awful and disgusting. There were fecal matter stains not only in the toilet bowl, but on the seat too. Here is the kicker, we were the only customers at noontime on a weekday. The staff seemed to be lounging around on their phones, so it's not like they didn't have time. I called in a pickup order on last Saturday around 2pm and the food was ready in a timely manner. I ordered the catfish dinner and it was an 8 out of 10. I originally went in for the loaded fries, but after seeing someone's chicken salad, I immediately changed my order. I ordered the Bring It On Salad without bacon, ham, and added the fried chicken breast to it. That salad was just what I needed. The breading on the chicken breast was favorable and crispy. You should try this place! Lots of to go orders, but only a few tables occupied when I was there. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. Pretty newly opened - so get here before you have to wait in lines. This will now just be where I forever remember having the best chicken sandwich of my life. I opted for the recommendation made by the awesomely kind server; it's on the menu as the " Nashville hot chicken sandwich". OMG - it was nearly a religious moment, the sandwich was SO good. They may have heard me making whimpering sounds at the nearby table as I enjoyed it. Seriously the best piece of chicken I have had, in any form. Perfectly seasoned and not "hot", but nicely "warm" and perfectly flavored - in no way overpowering. The perfectly crunchy outside wrapped around the plumpest and juiciest chicken breast you'll find (I didn't know a piece of chicken could be as moist as biting into a Georgia peach). The roll and slaw that cradled it were a perfect accompaniment. This sandwich is a "must". And the order of fries that shared space on the plate were as good as they come, and perfectly seasoned. They provide you a side of ketchup, but it's not needed for these fries - truly outstanding. So good, that you will understand they are definitely not a "filler". You could easily come here for the fries alone - but then you would be missing out on the best chicken sandwich you'll ever find. read more

Just a short walk from the conference I was attending a the Omni, I was glad that I dropped in at this unassuming store front. I took a table on the outdoor patio which was shaded and quiet. the local food is amazing! I love hot wings and try to use every overnight as an excuse to find the best (im a flight attendant). After arriving at the hotel, I immediately started searching Apple Maps and came across a place called Chef Shaq's Kitchen. It's only one block over from the hotel we stay at. It is run by a father "Chef Shaq" with his two younger daughters. They were SO nice and welcoming, customer service was 12/10, but more importantly the wings here were some of the best I've ever had in my life. We arrived at 5pm on a Tuesday night and it was completely empty.. that is a tragedy because between their food, and customer service this place should have a line out the door.Will definitely be picking up more overnights here to try out the rest of the food. read more

I had the home style burger. The servers told me that beef is marinated overnight and you could telling in the quality taste of the burger. Good was amazing. Got the hometown burger with the thunder over Louisville waffle fries. I think he might have the best fries in the city right now.
