I cant believe my luck trying this place. I can honestly say this is the best restaurant in Louisville. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, it could not have been better. The interior is beautiful and comfortable. We were given some bread at the start that had a beef tallow candle. Yes! It was a super cool start to the meal. And I know, I know, its not the most socially acceptable item to order, but I hardly see it any more and it is so freaking good, so we started with an order of Foie Gras (bacon jam, seared foie gras, toasted baguette, amarena cherry gastrique) My entree was the 7oz filet. I got the horseradish creme fraiche for it, but it really needed nothing additional, it was that good on its own. My side was the Caramelized Brussels Sprouts (fried with bacon, candied pecans and finished with aged balsamic). If i had anything negative to say about our time here, it would be this dish. I adore brussels sprouts and this was too heavy on the balsamic and oil. I probably would not get this again, but thats OK! There are like 10 other options to choose from! Steak & Bourbon was our selection for a meet up with co-workers. For all of us, the first visit. The experience was hit or miss throughout the night - and let's be honest, if we'd paid out of pocket rather than expensing dinner, maybe more of a miss. The old fashioned was a miss for me and two others. We switched to wine. Oddly sweet, bitter mix off and not enough bourbon. My glass of Malbec was much better but it took so long to get I that I drank most of it after dinner. We got the meatball appetizer as well as the one described as an empanada. Most of us enjoyed them. I thought both lacked flavor and wouldn't order them again. The bread - amazing! My steak and frites were good and I ate it all. I'm so happy I got the sauce on the side - that would've ruined the flavor. A bit fatty but filling. Others didn't enjoy their steaks as much - one requested medium rare came almost well and had to be exchanged. Another steak was described as oddly tough, another said it wasn't too fatty. For a steakhouse, it should be the main feature. Service was professional and friendly... and also incredibly slow. I was at dinner over 3 hours and we didn't have dessert! We had long pauses between visits to the table, even in the beginning when we wanted drink orders. The space is also very loud. I strained to hear my co-workers at dinner and my head ached at the end of dinner. That's too bad because the vibe of the restaurant is cool and modern, but I also want relaxing. We had an anniversary dinner here, and it was lovely. We were seated at a table by the window, which was nice, but the table was uncomfortably close to another one next to us. We kinda felt like we were having a dinner with the 6 (what looked like) guys on a business dinner. Like, weirdly close. Otherwise, the atmosphere was a dimly lit, romantic kind of vibe. Our waiter was terrific. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We had just the right amount of attention. The food was divine. The steak was cooked perfectly. I loved that there was enough to take home and have a second dinner the next day. It's an upscale steak house, so prices are what you'd expect- around $50/each. I attended a workplace dinner around 5:30p with my team members and had such an amazing experience. This was my first time at the downtown location and I was thoroughly impressed by the service (Jason was our server and was AMAZING) and the food was delicious. I had the 7 oz steak and Mac and cheese and highly recommend it. There was also live music (saxophone) that just made the experience even better! In for the Scrap Expo and entertaining guests and I was able to get reservations for this evening at a decent hour. High end restaurant with great service as expected. The waiter encouraged us to try the Kentucky Samurai drink and wow. It was almost too good. I can see these getting me in trouble quickly. Delicious. Then he brought out the beef tallow candle rolls. Yep. Interesting and tasty. Then we had the crab stuffed deviled eggs and the steakhouse meat balls. Both were tasty. Then I had a cup of their lobster bisque. I can't believe I did not get a pix of it but it was chunky and delicious. Almost naughty. After all this I had the tuna salad. This was delicious. This is such a cute space! I really enjoyed the decor in the restaurant. It's a nice mix between classy and comfort. So if you decide to dress down, you won't feel out of place. I ordered the pan-roasted chicken paired with the asparagus. The asparagus is very thick! I could only finish one piece. The chicken was overall juicy and cooked very well; it was a little bland seasoning-wise. I thought the potato Au Gratin tin was good as well, and I'm happy I upgraded from just the regular roasted. I ordered the white sangria, which was delicious and well mixed, but I will say drinks are on the sweeter side, for sure. Especially if you don't do the bourbon, it seems. Great restaurant! We came by on a Friday night and got seats at the bar. The whole place was packed. There was a cello and singer in the bar, doing some jazz which was really nice. Service from the bartender was exceptional. We started with a round of drinks- a couple Giddy-Ups (their version of espresso martini- wow! Chicory pecan bitters!) , a bourbon ball martini (complete with bourbon ball garnish!) and a mojito. We were all catching up as friends when the bartender asked about food- we were not ready yet! We had a second round of cocktails- a couple of bourbon smashes, a Kentucky samurai and grey goose martini. I heard the branzino special was amazing- so I definitely ordered that. I also had the Brussels sprouts side which is drizzled with maple syrup and pecans (yum!) and I asked for a wedge salad. I was glad the bartender asked me if I wanted half a wedge, as I didn't realize that was an option. My friends had the ahi tuna salad and the steak salad. Both were huge. Complimentary bread came out, with a lit up butter and beef tallow candle. The bread was so good. My branzino had a roasted tomato and olive sauce. Thankfully the olives were whole and not chopped up like tapenade because I'm no really a fan of olive tapenade. The fish AND the sauce were delicious. It came served on a huge cutting board and was a very heavy plate, whole fish- head on, with broccolini on top of Parmesan polenta. There was also a side of mixed wilted greens with the fish. It was a huge portion ($65) and totally worth it. I packed half to go because I was full on salad and the orange creamsicle seasonal cheesecake was part of my plan! The cheesecake was delicious. I had 1.5 bites and the rest was demolished by friends. Hahaha. So good. We were visited by the owner and manager during our visit, what a nice touch. They truly care about customer experience. Parking is in a nearby garage. Bathrooms are stylish and clean. The whole place is upscale modern design, with open atmosphere. It seems like a great place to meet someone at the bar if you know what I mean. They also have tables that are a bit more quiet. The menu is extensive. I really wanted to love it but for the price point, it should be comparable to other fine dining establishments and it just isn't quite there. The food was great but if I'm paying almost the same price, I'm going to Jeff Ruby's or somewhere similar instead. Only issue was my husband's meal didn't come out until the rest of us were almost finished and it wasn't acknowledged until we were asked about dessert. I ate here a couple of nights ago and I was really in the mood for a great burger, because I'm a burger girl after all. I decided to order my burger with just onions, mushrooms and asked for bearnaise on the side. Oh my gosh, if heaven had a kitchen it would be at Steak and Bourbon!!! This was hands down the absolute best burger I have had in my entire 55 years!! It was juicy, fresh, full of amazing flavor and the bun had the perfect consistency, not too hard or too soft, it never fell apart! ! The onions I could have eaten by themselves, that's how delicious they were. If you want a regular burger go anywhere else but if you want exceptional and the best burger of your entire life and the most heavenly burger on earth, eat at Steak and Bourbon! I liked the house salad a lot (also large enough to share) and the fois gras. The gratin potatoes and creamed spinach were too rich for my taste, but were well made. We had a reservation on a Sunday afternoon. Our server, Jordan, was wonderful and so attentive. The bread and butter candle was delicious. I started with a cup of lobster bisque soup- so creamy. I ordered the filet with the potatoes au gratin. My wife & I celebrated our anniversary at Steak & Bourbon downtown this year. We usually go to the Westport location, but we were very happy we went with downtown this year. First off, the location is prime and the venue is perfectly designed for the space it occupies. The wall of windows looking out to market/4th provide an excellent backdrop and light the space well in the afternoon/evening. The lounge style dining area has some excellent, comfortable furniture to relax and enjoy conversation. Of course, there are also more traditional sort of tables to sit at if you aren't into lounging. Long story short, vibes were great. The service was also stellar. Our server was Cole, and he made sure that we had a fantastic anniversary dinner. He had us wanting for naught, and made excellent recommendations for both food and drink. Top talent! Speaking of food and drink, magnificent! 10 ounce filet cooked perfectly medium and seared beautifully, a savory potato au gratin, steak hand pies with a nice, flaky crust, and delicious lobster bisque. All paired with a couple bourbon ball martinis and old fashioneds. If you are thinking of going, don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed and we will be back! read more

I FINALLY had a chance to visit the restaurant downtown and I was blown away by the quality of the food. We had appetizers as a group after a conference and the service was top notch. All of the servers were very attentive and the restaurant is beautiful! Plenty of windows to watch the downtown area pass you by. If you're visiting Louisville Kentucky and staying at the Galt House or anywhere near downtown, do yourself a favor and go to the Steak & Bourbon. The menu will be familiar like other steak houses but pay attention to small differences. The Shepard pie potatoes and better yet the Sailors pie potatoes are amazing!! The steaks were cooked perfectly, down to the perfect sear on the meat. Ask to be seated in Olivia's section. She was absolutely amazing. She offered suggestions, answered all our questions and was genuinely happy to serve us and banter with us. It was a true pleasure to meet her. The Steak & Bourbon also has a FULL page of bourbons including a flight of Pappy's that includes six (6) different Pappy Van Winkle bourbons for 500.00. If you have the means I highly suggest it. If you want a more quiet dinner I'd suggest making a reservation after 7pm. It was loud and busy but still very enjoyable when we arrived at 7pm. The wife and I were out for an amazing date night, and this place absolutely did not disappoint. The oyster appetizer? Hands down the best I've ever had. Fat, juicy oysters--huge. We split a 7oz filet. Yeah, I know, not massive--but with the candle butter bread, the half salad, and the mac and cheese? Totally made up for it. Everything was so good. We love Steak and Bourbon but had never been to the downtown location! We finally made reservations - process was extremely easy through Open Table online. The restaurant is located at 4th and Market downtown. We had to drive around for a few minutes before finding on street parking, they do offer valet but normally it's not hard to find a spot. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful - there are normal tables, high tops, big lounge chair seating and bar spots. We started with the tuna poke, which was absolutely delicious. It was served on guacamole with a sweet fruity sauce on the bottom. My only complaint was it served with five chips, not nearly enough for the appetizer. I would definitely order it again, very fresh. For our entrees I ordered the steak & frites and my husband ordered the cowboy ribeye (48 oz) and Brussels sprouts. We also ordered the short rib mashed potatoes and they were amazing - creamy delicious and a good portion! The steaks were cooked perfectly - the steak frites had a unique sauce with it. I think next time I would order it on the side. It was a sweet sauce, with a rich flavor. They also brought bread with a beef tallow candle, it was way too rich in my opinion and the bread was hard. The giant steak fries were crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and paired perfectly with the steak. Steak & Bourbon has always been my favorite steakhouse in Louisville, and I've been here many times with amazing food and service. Tonight was not one of those times. Service was great, but the $200 Tomahawk steak I had was horrible. I ordered it Medium, and it came to the table extremely rare (and just a bad cut of meat). I could not even cut the steak, and certainly not edible. I have never sent back food at a restaurant, but I had to with this steak. Even when it came back the 2nd time, it was still extremely rare. Half the steak could not be eaten. Just very disappointing at such a nice restaurant, especially with such an expensive steak. read more

Very good and not too heavy on the garlic. My wife had the 7oz Fillet and I had the three fillet Medallions. The Steak was done perfectly. Medium Rare and Rare PUSH! We split a bottle of Black Sheep Pinot Noir. Our service was outstanding. Patrick was our server . Very knowledgeable and personable. His table timing was spot on .
