We chose MeeshMeesh as a celebratory dinner because we'd heard such great things. We were excited to finally get a reservation, but unfortunately our experience didn't match the expectations for the great things we've heard about this restaurant. We waited 30 minutes past our 9:15 reservation to be seated because we were told the previous reservation would not leave. We had to ask the hostess twice before our table was ready. Once seated, we felt rushed to order. The salatim wasn't replenished until we had nearly finished our entrées. When we asked for more pita with our mains after receiving side orders of hummus, we were asked how many individual pieces we wanted. None of us received the rice that comes with our mains, and when we asked our server just agreed but it was never brought out. My fries were also forgotten and by the time I asked I was told the kitchen had already closed so I couldn't get them. They kindly removed the fries from my bill and gave me a complimentary dessert. Our empty glasses also remained on the table for the entirety of the dinner. At the end of the meal, we all requested separate checks, but three of them were incorrect and had to be fixed. As we were leaving, we could hear the employees cheering because we had left. We greatly appreciated the discount our group received. This one was hard to get in, but well worth the wait. Im not the biggest fan of Mediterranean food at least thats what I thought. But this place changed my mind. I ordered the chicken because the waiter suggested it... I never order chicken.. but im glad I did, it was delicious! Sort of sweet salty with amazing pieces of bread that had cooked in the sauce. It came with an assortment of dips, and eachbone was intense and changed the flavor profile for each bite. For dessert I ordered the knafau, sure I spelled that wrong. And hoped for that sweet, crunchy top with cheese pull but it wasn't that it was the creamer version and deconstructed. Kinda felt like it was made in a bowl and not made whole. Unforgettable meal. We may go back to Louisville just to eat here again, and we live in California. Everything we had - embered beets, tomatoes and stone fruit, chicken thighs, salmon, and babka - was simply sublime. And the basic dishes were the most surprising. We can't stop thinking about the tomatoes and stone fruit - how can a few ingredients we eat so often have such complexity and taste beyond any prior experience? It's infuriating. Also the rice - of the hundreds of rices we've had this is by far the best. Rice! Service was exceptional as well. Our servers Celeste and Ollie (Ali?) were knowledgeable, welcoming, and efficient. I wonder if sunk-cost fallacy influences the experience. I could count on a single hand the number of restaurants I would book a reservation two months in advance, but Meesh Meesh claims the superlative of being the only restaurant I waited almost two years to try. Overall, I had a great time at Meesh Meesh. Among my table, the consensus of the evening was the crispy cauliflower appetizer. The toum sauce, the crispiness of the cauliflower - weeks later I'm still thinking about it. I also want to highlight our server who was incredibly patient with us as we deliberated on our order. In general, his cheerfulness was infectious and kept the mood lively. However, my party was unimpressed with the stuffed artichoke hearts. noting the blandness and lack of seasoning for the dish. I was frustrated at the lack of vegetarian options, considering the variety in Levantine food. Cost-wise, the shefha menu is worth it if your whole table eats meat. The shefha is a feast featuring three meeze and three mains which is also limiting when the majority of the mains are meat-based. You get your money's worth in portions for sure, but be cautious with the endless freshly made pita - it'll quickly fill you up. This is probably the best Mediterranean food I have ever eaten and I can be snobby about my food doesn't matter what kind. Tonight we had a most amazing dinner. No question it was the best that we've had in a long long time. The food at Meesh Meesh is Eastern Mediterranean. So different than anything we've ever had. I started with 2 birds 1 stone. It was good though I wouldn't order it again. My husband had a draft. We started with the crispy cauliflower and the embered beets. Both delicious but the beets knocked it out of the park. We then were served salatim- a large tray of pita and 8 toppings. My favorite was the pickled carrots. Finally we shared the grape leaf bronzino. We did request no head on the fish but for those of you who are more daring (aka less squeamish), it could be quite a spectacular presentation. Definitely would order again. Meesh Meesh is a James Beard winner. It takes 2-3 months to get reservations and as soon as the reservations open up, they fill up. We were pleasantly surprised to walk in to find that they had a table available. The tables are almost on top of each other. It could be a little weird but I've never met a stranger. We talked to the people on both sides of us like we were old friends who hadn't seen each other in a while. The guys next to us ordered the dinner for two. We definitely weren't hungry enough for so many courses but at $65/person, it probably would have been nearly a wash to what we paid. (Plus they got an amazing looking dessert). We had a good time! Tried to make a reservation a few times but saw it was booked out for three months but happened upon some openings late on a Friday, so we thought we'd check it out! We found nearby street parking and came right at our reservation time and were told our table wasn't ready, so we walked around outside and were able to get seated about 10 minutes later. The space is super nice and trendy, feels small but cozy, dimly lit, and trendy. Loved the lights and indoor plant vibe. Our server was super friendly, helpful, and attentive. Overall, we thought the branzino was the highlight by far, it had excellent flavor and texture. Although on the pricier side, it was nicely done, flavorful, and had good texture. The cauliflower wasn't anything crazy, but we thought we'd try it since we saw lots of reviews about it. Probably would try something different next time though. We enjoyed the hummus and pita. The rice that came with the branzino was flavorful, but not my favorite. Had a really strong sweet herb flavors that I didn't love, but maybe that's just my preference. Overall thought it was a nice experience! Big portions so we took a lot to go as well. Meesh Meesh is highly rated do a reason: they're doing it all well. Located in NuLu, this place has had buzz from the beginning, and it's still a hot ticket. I was able to score a visit recently on Derby Week, and that will be one of the highlights of Derby Week this year for me. We arrived shortly before our reservation time after hearing that our table was ready. I was seated at the bar, to be joined by my good friend a few minutes later. The cocktail menu sounded intriguing, and I started with an Oopsie Daisy and she sprung for Fighting Words. As we sipped our drinks, we perused the menu and decided on an array of mezze as our meal that night. Crispy cauliflower arrived first, followed shortly by tuna tartare, then whipped labneh and spring pea hummus. They even provided a gluten free pita option for the gluten sensitive in our party. Out of our choices, the cauliflower and the spring pea hummus were my favorites, although everything was very good. Throughout our meal, the staff was attentive and kept our waters full, cleared plates as appropriate, and made sure we didn't need anything else during our visit. Well worth the wait to finally get there! I'll admit I did not know the term Levantine cuisine (Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern), but I'm delighted to have made its acquaintance. If you want to do this right, go with friends and do the shefha--mix of appetizers and dessert, and depending on how many guests you have, you get to pick one or more mains. You won't go hungry, and there's not a miss on the menu. The fried cauliflower could make me consider a vegetarian life (light, crispy, delicately seasoned)...but then I try the harissa shrimp or branzino and decide I'd at least need to go pescatarian...then the steak and chicken arrive, and I'm back in my omnivorous heaven. Cocktails are creative and tasty. Love the unique wine selection which I'm told changes often because no one else really orders them...had a delightful Turkish red (never had a Turkish wine) and saw some other interesting ones. Ambience is relaxed, and the servers are outstanding. Very helpful and welcoming, as if you're sitting down to dinner at a friend's house. Absent incredible luck, you will need a reservation. From the second we walked in, it felt warm and welcoming, like being invited into someone's home for dinner. The space is intimate without feeling cramped, and we were lucky enough to grab a cozy window seat. It had that perfect hum of conversation where you feel the energy of the room but can still talk easily. Our waitstaff were incredible, thoughtful and genuinely kind in a way that made the whole night feel relaxed and personal. We started with an olive oil washed martini that was crisp, silky, and honestly just really good. A simple drink done beautifully. Then we decided to go all in and order the Shefa, Chef Noam's guided family style feast. You choose a main and then the kitchen takes you from there. Plates started arriving in waves and the table slowly filled with color and texture. The first taste included chamutzim pickles, fresh herbs and vegetables, matbucha, and labneh with za'atar. We added the tuna tartare, which was bright and fresh and such a nice contrast to the richness of the spreads. Everything invited you to tear into the warm pita and pass plates back and forth. The salatim followed with shawarma spiced chicken and crispy cauliflower, full of flavor but not heavy. It was the kind of food that makes you slow down because you don't want to miss anything. We shared a bottle of Chateau Musar Musar Jeune from Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, and it paired so beautifully with the warmth and spice of the meal. The star of the night was the lamb merguez with cucumber yogurt, dill, and pistachios, served alongside jeweled rice with pepitas and cranberry chutney. It was deeply spiced, comforting, and somehow both bold and cozy at the same time. It honestly felt like being wrapped in a hug. You could taste the care behind it. Dessert sealed it. The salatim is a perk--both of us get it as long as one of us orders an entree, and you get refills. My husband always orders the steak with the jalapeño shatta & sauce that tastes like tahini dressing mixed with chimichurri. We usually get the tuna tartare, too, served with perfectly crisp pani puri. Sad the hummus isn't on the salatim rotation right now, but glad the baba ghanoush still is. I understand the hype. It's more than hype. It's pure magic. Three of us strolled in around 7:30p on a Friday evening knowing full well there was little-to-no chance of us getting seated given this place is booked out months in advance with a long waitlist. Lo and behold the dining gods and goddesses were shining down upon us because the host was able to seat us immediately with a 50-minute time constraint before the next guests arrived. No problem. Deal sealed. The interior is a twinkly-light dream, reminiscent of an outdoor Mediterranean terrace but crafted indoors. The server was friendly and direct and gave us great suggestions on how to smartly pair our dishes since we were ordering a variety of apps to share. Everything we enjoyed was life-defining, the best of everything I've ever had: the best hummus, the best beets, the best pickled veggies, the best falafel. I've never had whipped labneh or Zaatar fries, but I'm sure they are the best I will ever have. They also had gluten-free pita, and that was the best (and only) I've ever had. My cocktail was also out of this world, and I'm still dreaming about it: the Two Birds, One Stone, and the ratio of ingredients made it the smoothest, silkiest, most deliciously understated drink of my life. For everything we ordered, I felt the price was extremely reasonable. And the service was perfect. Between ordering and eating, we strolled out of the restaurant one minute before the next reservation was scheduled to arrive. Only snafu was we split the check in two ways between 3 guests, and the server added the written-in tip to the wrong check, which I discovered a couple days later. I emailed management, and they very graciously and quickly amended the error. Very impressive response time for a busy and popular restaurant. We've heard about Meesh Meesh for so long and finally had the opportunity to visit with some friends that planned a few months in advance! Yes, it's true, you have to make reservations 60+ days in advance. We were lucky enough to get invited to share a table with friends. We arrived a little early and the table was ready for us. There were six of us so we had a cozy circular booth towards the back of the restaurant. As a table, we ended up ordering a la carte but shared several appetizers including the hummus and cauliflower. It was also recommended to purchase extra bread to accompany our dishes. The appetizers were beautifully presented in circular bronze dishes. They were all very good on their own. The bread was the real show stealer... fluffy and moist and accompanied the dips perfectly. Then came out another appetizer that accompanies all main dishes of smaller apps including pumpkin hummus, pickled vegetables, etc. that also came with bread! Next up, main dishes and I was pretty stuffed at that time. My chicken dish was a half chicken, so extremely large. It was served on more crispy bread, which soaked in all the sauce and onions. Pricing was $45. My husband ordered the branzino fish, which was open - the presentation was beautiful but many bones were found. This dish was $71! Shefha is the way to go if it's your first time visiting so that you can try a large variety. I have passed this place countless times driving to the coffee shop and other local businesses in Nulu but I have never stopped in till today. I had to book about a month and a half ago just to get in but seeing that it is not a large restaurant, I can see why it would take time. Out of everything I had, the pita bread was the most delicious. It was soft, pillowy with just the right amount of that glutinous chew making it the perfect vessel for the rest of the small side dishes that surrounded it. The dessert - knafeh (which is not pictured because it was inhaled) was probably of the same memorable caliber: absolutely delicious and decadent. Some of the small side dishes were not my favorite such as the olives and pickles - they were bitter and left an unpleasant aftertaste. I also felt the price was steep for the portions that were served. The tables are also very close to one another so privacy was lacking... all in all, I had a good experience aside from these things and would recommend for a fancier night out. read more

For dessert, we decided on the BROWN BUTTER KNAFEH. It is Middle Eastern dessert featuring delicate, crispy layers of shredded kataifi dough soaked in fragrant orange blossom syrup. It is filled with a sweet cheese this treat is finished with crushed pistachios and dried rose for the perfect balance of texture and flavor. It was very different, but we couldn't stop eating it. In the restaurant, there are several seats on the left at a large bar, and there are tables in the front, all the way down the right and along the back. First and foremost, waiting months for a table at Meesh Meesh is absolutely worth it. As is our tradition, my wife chose Mesh Mesh for her birthday dinner. I made the reservation and we eagerly counted down the days on the calendar. When the night finally arrived, we headed out excited to be trying a new place despite the challenge of finding parking with snow piled high around town and limiting available parking spots. Once we found a place to park, we walked in and were warmly greeted by the host, who cheerfully checked our coats and escorted us to our seats at the bar. The bartenders were gracious and welcoming, asking if we'd been to Mesh Mesh before and helping guide us through the drink menu. After a few minutes of deliberation, I ordered the "Curd Your Enthusiasm," and my wife chose the "Barrel Aged Mesh Manhattan". We shared sips of each other's drinks and both were outstanding--so good that we ordered a second round. The friendly and knowledgeable bartenders also walked us through the menu and explained how everything worked. We started with several appetizers: Crispy Cauliflower, Entered Beets, and the Original Hummus. There wasn't a bad choice among them. The hummus, in particular, was some of the best I've ever had--smooth, flavorful, and unforgettable. For our main course, we ordered the Freedom Run Farms Lamb Merguez. Saying it was "good" doesn't do it justice. Even though we were already getting full from the appetizers, the lamb would not be denied. We ate every bit of it. We were finally able to score bar seats for 2 on a Saturday night. I had been excited to try Meesh Meesh for months and was very happy with our experience. The place is small so I can see why it is difficult to make a reservation. I loved the looked and feel of the restaurant. We sat side by side at the bar and ordered a round of cocktails. I enjoyed my apricot margarita and for dinner a delicious Greek white wine. Each entree comes with their appetizer tray. We loved everything on it especially the hummus. They even had gluten free pita for my husband that tasted amazing. For dinner he ordered the delicious steak and I got the whole branzino. Wow--what a dish. It had pine nuts and crispy melt in your mouth toppings. The flavors of everything were so unique to the usual Louisville restaurant scene which explains its popularity. Even though we had plenty of food we topped the night off with the Halva Sundae--cherries, roasted hazelnuts and bits of halva on top. Yum! This restaurant is a must try. It was so good that I made another reservation with the host before we left. He said that is the best way to do it. But note: they are booking at least 2 months out. It is worth the wait! read more

MeeshMeesh feels like visiting family on a holiday. Every seat in the place today feels like sitting in your grandma's small but powerful kitchen. The encouragement is to eat family style with a bunch of courses shared among the table (or close seats at the bar, which is generally also reservation-only). The menu will direct you towards the family-style options and it can be worth taking that advice. The main courses are paired with table shared Salatim Platters. The real treat is with an adventurous table to take the full Shefha experience where you pick a main course (or two depending on your table size) for your table and then share multiple delicious courses together. I deeply appreciate about every meal at MeeshMeesh that there are few other restaurants I know of where every bite can have an incredibly varied flavor from every other one. It's easy to feel spoiled like royalty or, alternatively, family that hasn't shown up to grandma's in too long and needs be fed everything all at once from the simplest appetizers to the largest kitchen sink entree to a garden's harvest of pickles. The Salatim platter alone is often a bountiful harvest of flavors to share with your table (or bar mates). In other restaurants each of the sides of the platter might make a great entree, but are presented as MeeshMeesh as "just" the sides to your entree. Don't overlook what they contribute to the flavors of your meal, they aren't "just" sides. Even the mains are often surprisingly deep dishes. One bite to the next can pick up new flavors as you find new layers of sauces and richness. The menu changes with the seasons and often showcases fresh seasonal ingredients. The cocktail list is well tended and also tends to showcase seasonal pairings. (Of the mainstays I like to especially point to the Olive Oil Martini's ability to pair really well with the entree course and the Turkish Coffee 'tini is my personal "must have" with the dessert course.) It's too easy for me to take the big family sharing meal as a personal challenge, just like visiting my grandmothers, to eat all the things they prepared, to enjoy seconds and thirds. I cannot state enough how delicious this entire meal tasted! We went with a group of friends - 8 total - and did the shareable meal - the shefha. It was incredible! To start, we had the crispy cauliflower, herb falafel, whipped labneh, and embered beets plus fresh and pickled veggies. Our mains included harissa grilled shrimp, shawarma spiced chicken thighs, the new york strip, and lamb merguez. It also came with crispy rice. It was all EXCELLENT. My only critique is that the steak (the piece I had at least) although very flavorful, was very chewy and I had to spit a lot of it into my napkin. I would have chosen the verlasso salmon in place of the steak, but a couple in our party did not want to eat fish. The desserts were also great - my favorite being the chocolate babka, but most of the others in our party liked the coconut malabi which had rose water/rose flavors and was a little too floral for my taste. Got lucky and we were able to snag a table outside upon walking in! We were told that tables inside are booked months in advance and we totally understand why. Food was incredible. Best bite out of our whole trip. Didn't meet a dish we didn't love. Everything was well-balanced, great for sharing, and just amazing flavors even the drinks. Service was also pretty attentive even though we were seated outside. The inside is decorated even more beautifully. Wish we could come back more often; definitely add this to your list if you're visiting! read more

The hype is real. This place is fantastic! Excellent and friendly service throughout the night (we sat at the bar). We had to have a reservation in advance. Street parking. Every food item we tasted was wonderful! We did the shefha tasting sampler menu ($59 a person and everyone in your party has to partake).
