If you've read my Reviews you already know I love Bar Vetti ... so of course I had to give M. Pepper's a try for Brunch since the same amazing team is behind the magic, and WOW!! It was SO good! I can honestly say I've been dying to go back ever since! We dined in on a Sunday with a group of 8 and had excellent service as well as enjoyed delicious food and drinks! I started with the Hugo Spritz, my husband got a classic White Russian, several high life ponies were ordered amongst the table and a few other drinks. We started with a couple of Quiche du jour's and Poutines for the table. I am not a quiche person so I did not try it but everyone loved it. The poutine on the other hand was extremely rich but oh so delicious!! So good in fact I didn't save a lot of room for brunch so me and my husband split the Brunch Burger (Caramelized onion, bacon jam, dijonnaise, sunny-side egg, gruyère, potato bun, with French fries) which was delicious. The egg was cooked perfectly so it was very messy but worth it. The table also ordered, PLAT de PETIT DÉJEUNER which is their version of a breakfast plate (Scrambled 3D Valley Farm eggs, toasted sourdough, with crispy potatoes), the French Dip (Braised beef, caramelized onion, au jus, gruyère, horseradish aioli, Haymarket baguette, with French fries) and the Crème Brûlée French toast (Haymarket brioche, vanilla pastry cream, pear jam, berry compote). I honestly wanted to try a bite of everyone's it all looked and smelled so good. Especially the French dip and French toast. I visited M Peppers for my sister's birthday. The restaurant focuses on French cuisine, which honestly just isn't really my personal taste, so I decided to order a cheeseburger instead. I asked for it medium well, but when it came out it was pretty rare, which was a bit disappointing. That said, the service was very friendly and the staff treated us well throughout the meal. The atmosphere was pleasant and it seemed like a nice place for people who really enjoy French-style food. For me personally, the experience was just okay. I'm glad we got to celebrate my sister's birthday there, but it's probably not a place I'd feel the need to go back to. read more

The staff were the shining star. The drinks and food did not disappoint. They took care of my wife and I for our 19th anniversary date and the only qualm I have really was the extremely weird and eclectic French x-mas songs playing over the house audio. I'm now a fan of martinis thanks to this place. If only my wallet agreed. I'll absolutely eat here again. Have you ever been sad after you finished your meal? Because it was gone!!!!???? That's how I was after I ate this Wed special, that left me so satisfied. The burger is covered with a peppercorn gravy type sauce, not too heavy and it didn't sog the bread down. The fries were thick, fresh, and hot! The dish paired so well together in considering going back next Wed. I highly recommend this special and upgrade the burger to M. Peppers style. You won't regret it! This was our first time here. Extremely limited menu. I got the gnocchi. It was fine but nothing special. My wife had the salmon. It was a good portion and tasty. Our friends had the sweet breads, steak tartare and Mac and cheese which they enjoyed. My biggest complaint was the noise. What ever happened to inside voices. Very annoying. We've been to Monsieur Pepoers 3x, once for dinner, once for happy hour at the bar, & once for brunch. Loved each experience. For brunch, we were impressed with the perfection of the Bloody Mary. Great clarity in the tomato juice--happy it wasn't too thick. The vegetarian quiche was creamy and smoky with buttery crust. Great tangy vinaigrette. We made reservations for Easter brunch and I am so glad we did. This place is a hidden gem I had yet to try. Lovely little French restaurant that takes you to France. The hostess quickly greeted us and seated us in a lovely area with a beautiful view. We were promptly greeted by I am guessing the manager who brought us water. Our waiter Dylan made sure we had an incredible experience from ordering to making sure we loved our dishes. I was impressed by the polish and professionalism showcased here. And also very friendly and relatable approach. This was a memorable experience versus just brunch or a more of a transactional experience. The service was wow and it matched the food. My son and I had the steak and eggs and my husband had the breakfast sandwich. Steaks were perfectly cooked and the potatoes I would buy by the pound. My husband's sandwich bread was made in house and looked to be just how we experienced bread in France. I cannot wait to visit for dinner and they have a lovely outdoor seating area. Be sure to make reservations this place is popular. The restaurant is larger Inside than it looks on the outside. We so enjoyed our dinner here a few months ago we decided to try out their brunch. Now we have to decide which was better as both dinner and brunch were delicious! We visited M Peppers during Kentucky Derby week, so it was probably one of the busiest weeks of the entire year. The ambiance was nice, and the staff was very friendly. We ordered two portions of mussels as an appetizer. One portion was perfectly cooked, but the second was unfortunately not cooked properly, and about half of that was uncooked. We let the server know about it, and I believe the manager came over to apologize and explained that they had probably rushed the second portion. He also removed both portions of mussels from our bill, which we really appreciated. The rest of the appetizers and all four main courses were very good. read more

Magnifique! The bar was high - in no small part because I was dining with a French person - but Monsieur Peppers delivered on our recent inaugural visit. Looking to try a fun new place, I settled on M. Peppers after seeing some favorite French classics on an online menu. I was also eager to see how the old Highlands police station had been transformed into a French bistro. We arrived shortly before 8 PM on a recent evening. We hadn't made reservations, but there were high tops as well as cafe tables available in the bar area. We sprung for a cafe table and were promptly greeted by our server, who also let us know that late night happy hour was about to begin. We settled on an order of moules-frites, then an unaoked French Chardonnay for myself and an old fashioned for le monsieur. Service was friendly and prompt, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list. As our food arrived, so did some friends who we didn't know were coming. But we had them pull up a chair and made our date night into a double. The moules-frites was one of the better iterations I've had stateside, with the flavors hitting the spot and the fries perfectly golden. My wine was also a perfect complement, would definitely recommend. I went lighter for my main course and opted for a Salade Niçoise with the tuna salad on the side. It was ::chef's kiss:: Perfectly balanced in its composition and with fresh ingredients, I could not have made a better choice. The ambiance, particularly in the bar area, is reminiscent of a Parisian bistro, with close tables and a pleasant din of bar noise as a backdrop to the evening. M. Peppers is destined to become one of our new favorite spots, and I hope that soon it is for you as well! read more

You should get here now! I'm so happy I discovered this gem! I was blown away by the food my first visit! The ouefs mayonnaise are not devil or dressed eggs, but are perfection. The truffle mayo leaves you craving more of them. Since they have two burgers, I had to try the cheeseburger American. At first bite it became my favorite burger in Louisville. All the components work perfect together and I already want another one. Their fries are also a winner. So many places have messed up their fries and M Peppers is 11 out of 10. First visit to M. Peppers. Was initially hesitant to go as a vegetarian. Told the husband we could maybe just get a drink and decide about food later. We went on a Thursday around 5:30pm. Bar had only 4 people seated so we were able to grab a spot easily (we prefer sitting at the bar). Place was nicely renovated by the prior restaurant owners, and it still looks very nice. Bartender was great (Colson, I think was his name). Attentive and knowledgeable. Made a delicious manhattan. Friendly. Appropriately social without being intrusive. I'd give him an A+. The bread was amazing! So very good. Love that there was a bar hook underneath for coat/purse/whatever. There was also a bar for feet (but I was too short for that). Luckily the bar stool had a foot bar. I read the other reviews that described the gnocchi as bland. I thought it was wonderful. The mushrooms were so good. We will be back. Of note, the television at the bar reportedly only shows horse racing, but it looked really nice with the gold frame (see picture). read more

Was so excited to try this new French spot on a Friday night! We didn't make a reservation so my dad and I sat at a table by the bar which we were happy with. We loved the atmosphere inside - it was slightly loud but I think that's just because we were in the bar area. Our server was friendly and promptly came and took our orders and answered any questions that we had. The only issue with the service was that as time went on and the restaurant got busier, our server was running around inside and outside and kind of forgot to keep checking on our table. I'm sure that since the place is new they are still getting some of their footing, especially on a busy night. Now the food and drinks were absolutely outstanding!! I started off with a French 75 which was made perfectly. My dad had an old fashioned and said it's one of the best he's had. The escargot that we got as an appetizer was hot and garlicky just as I like it! We used up every drop of the mixture that went on top by dipping our bread in it. My dad got the burger for his main and told me it was phenomenal. My steak frites were delicious as well - the steak was extremely tender and salty and the sauce I chose on top (I think it was the au poivre) was the perfect pairing. read more

Have been wanting to try this place for a bit and it definitely was fabulous. Walk in to a swanky and hip bar and was seated around the corner in the dining room. Our waiter was perfectly attentive with the best curled mustache! French onion raclette cheese and bread... I could eat that all day. Escargot, fantastic! Mushroom with goat cheese tartine, a must if you love those two ingredients on incredible bread. Those were just the appetizers. Oh almost forgot, steak tartare served with homemade chips!!! The best tartare I've had. Steak frites were so yummy. Always have to try that going to a new restaurant as my gauge for coming back. Will be coming back! Fantastic addition to the Louisville food scene (and the Highlands in particular). French bistro-inspired setup. The bar area when you enter is energetic and is a great spot to stop for a drink, a bite, or both. The dining area is also a pleasant spot. Food and drinks are outstanding. I love that it's a smaller menu than you see a lot of places--there's plenty of variety on there for any taste, but it's not at all overwhelming, and everything is prepared perfectly. Rarely would I ever eat a cheeseburger with a fork, but the Le Burger M Peppers is a delightful exception--drenched in a delicious au poivre, trying to pick it up would not be the cleanest process! And the fries are incredible--perfectly crisp exterior followed by a pillowy interior. Steak frites are exceptional too, and absolutely get the French onion fondue and the fried cornichons! The fondue is French onion soup in fondue form, just incredibly tasty. And I'd never have thought to get fried cornichons, but I am glad I did--crunchy little pickles perfectly fried and tasty dipping sauce. Desserts and cocktails are excellent as well. Service is friendly and helpful. It was quite crowded the first time I visited, but the servers were still attentive, and we never waited long for a fresh drink or our meal. I went to M Peppers for a pre valentines dinner. The food and the service were both amazing. The ambiance is very romantic and intimate. We waited a little bit for our table to be ready and there isn't a ton of waiting space when it's busy but other than that we had no issues. I got the French 75 which was delicious. We got the fried cornichons to start which were surprisingly lovely and then we got the beef bourguignon and le burger m pepper to share. So how did I get to three stars... The service was top notch from start to finish. We were on the patio and it started raining. They were there immediately to get us moved inside and out of the rain. The menu is compact, but has plenty from which to pick. We started with steak tartare ;(very good) and French onion fondue (okay). The fondue was okay, seemed a lot like soup with some melted cheese on top. For entrees we tried gnocchi (very dry), halibut (overwhelmed by the sauce) the Le Burget M Peppers (pretty good) and steak frites (cooked well, thin sauce). The deserts were really good! This was my birthday dinner this year, and it ticked all the right boxes as a place to celebrate an occasion, enough to warrant a glowing review after just one visit. Since it's the dead of summer, we gravitated toward dishes that offered seasonal and fresh veggies, and were not disappointed. But more importantly, M. Peppers came through on executing some beautiful sauces. The grand aioli was textbook perfect, and the basil pistou on my Parisian gnocchi was lovely. In fact, the Parisian gnocchi dish was a bit of a revelation for me. Service was also a highlight. Our server could not have been more personable or attentive. And the chef even emerged from the kitchen to chat with a few diners (including us). The menu is not especially avant garde. Nicoise salad, cheeseburger American, and roasted chicken aren't exactly trailblazing dishes. But they seem to do the classics well here. And sorbet du jour? That's a lifestyle I can get used to. read more

It is upscale without being pretentious (no one needs to know where each pickle or caper came from); also not $$$$ like the other French bistro in town. But it is refined in its food, drinks, service and even drinkware. I just love those very French green Duralex Picardie glasses! We've been here twice now. We loved our French 75 and Old Fashioned. The drinks are just what I like: classic, fortified without a long list of unrecognizable ingredients. The food menu is also simple, classic and well-executed. We loved the steak frites, salmon and roasted chicken. That side of peas is a must try! A bit of salty pork and velvety cheese (?) sauce elevates the humble peas. Service was friendly, attentive and well-timed. We were able to enjoy our meal at a French pace, not American rush style. We will definitely be back for more. Walked in for happy hour and ate at the bar. The building and ambience were amazing. The bartender made good drinks but the wait staff seemed snooty. You definitely need to dress up to be there or else they will treat you like you can't afford to be there. The staff were also listening to me and my partners intimate conversation and repeating those things back to us. I guess we were entertaining to them. Because of the negatives we won't be back. Hell to the YES on dining at this establishment! Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Louisville. Approachable, great service, excellent food, and impeccable drinks. Best stuffed blue cheese olives for the perfect dirty martini and I still can't get over how delicious the espresso martini was. I had two martinis before my husband even finished his... and that says a lot! What was even more impressive was the service. Aaron was on point with his mixology and attention to detail. Food was excellent but my only regret was not sticking to just appetizers. The cornichion and the triple cream French cheese apps were definitely a must try but ask for extra sourdough with the triple cheese cause it's that good. We may have order too much but everything was beyond delicious and well executed. Even the fries were on point and as they got cold ( because I was becoming Chatty- Cathy from the espresso martinis) they were still delicious. The garlic-aioli makes you want to give ketchup the fair well. Well played M. Peppers! Makes me want to do the Phil Rosenthal dance just thinking of dining here again. M. Peppers for date night this evening. The restaurant was so cute and I really enjoyed the decor. Our server was great and attentive and let us set the pace for our meal. He made recommendations about appetizers, steak cuts, and wine pairings. I started with the French 75 which was very tasty and not too sweet. We ordered the bread and butter and cornichons. The bread and butter was okay. The garlic butter was pretty good but the plain tasted unsalted and I need the salt. The cornichons were unique and delicious! They almost melted in your mouth and I was a big fan of the dip. I'd definitely recommend them. For entrees we got the coq au van and steak frites. Brand new this evening were the black truffles. It was $25 to add them to your steak. I went for it and found them to be tasteless. Unless you are already a big truffle fan my recommendation would be to skip them. The steak was good. The au poivre was not my favorite I've ever had but good- I would probably try the bernaise next time. My husband loved his coq au van. For dessert we got the chocolate mousse. The atmosphere was great, with the exception of the table arrangement. The long community booth bench had 2-top tables that were too close and aligned to the crack between the booths. Since we sat next to two women on one side and a couple on the other, we made friends easily due to the proximity. However, we were celebrating and had planned on a more intimate dinner. The wait staff were pleasant and friendly. Our server was not experienced and didn't notice or ask about several things, but other staff were quick to help him. The appetizers were excellent! We had the French onion fondue and the escargot which were both AMAZING!!! The flavors were exceptional. The entrees were few (5-6), and ours were somewhat void of flavor. The gnocchi was very plain and the steak was also mediocre. The herb butter helped to complement the steak and the fries were cooked well. The gnocchi was in a broth and lacked flavor. Being new, I'm sure they are working out the kinks. I know Bar Vetti is one of my favorites restaurants in Louisville, so I'm sure the entrees will come along to that level too. It was truly a night to remember. Celebrating 72 years around the sun! Went there to celebrate my Christmas Eve Birthday. It began with the most amazing accommodating service from the entire staff as I was in an electric wheelchair. I was greeted, seated, in a very nice and beautiful space, and I appreciated how service was for the entire evening. The food was amazing! I over indulged. I had the bread and butter appetizer, delicious! And, the halibut poached in butter with leeks PLUS the special Hamburger drowned in creamy pepper sauce, to die for! I ate half of each. Bagged the rest. Devoured them later during Christmas week. The music vibe was on point, some oldies but goodies, some new vibes, all easy listening, warm, inviting, delicious cocktails too! Greeted warmly upon approach! Very friendly wait staff all around. Nicely decorated space with a definite French theme. They've been open about 2 months at this point and the owners also have Bar Vetti with the same executive chef. We started with a cream of pea cold soup perfect for a hot day. The wine selection is decent for whites, rose', and red but a little lacking for digestives. Usually a French restaurant would have Armaniac or Calvados, neither of which they have. But they do make a great black manhattan! For dinner we each got the steak au poivre. Steak was cooked perfectly and the pepper sauce was great! The fries that came with it were fantastic! Will start by saying I want to go back and try this place again. There were five star aspects of this place. And then, not so much. First started by being seated in their private room. Off to one side adjacent to a group of about 14. Music speakers right above us and it was loud. Almost felt like we were at the kids table at Thanksgiving. So we asked to move and got a much nicer table in another rather uncrowded room. Salad was excellent and cold pea soup was outstanding. Cocktails were very good including the Paper Plane I ordered for my wife. One of the best. But then, Parisian Gnocchi was underwhelming and pretty bland. Steak Frites, while perfectly cooked, lacked seasoning and was very tough. And while the service was very good, I indicated in my reservation it was my wife's birthday. Never an acknowledgement.
