A really unique and pleasant dining experience. Definitely not the place for vegetarians or vegans, although I suspect they would still do a thoughtful job accommodating them. Every bite felt intentional, well-executed, and very on-theme. The cocktails were excellent, and the service was attentive throughout the meal. We tried the steak flight, which was absolutely worth the price and a great way to experience the menu. With all the impressive beef-focused dishes, it's funny to say that the Caesar salad may actually have been the highlight of the meal -- not because anything else was lacking, but because it was honestly one of the best salads I've ever had. We also had the Johnny cake chocolate dessert, which was warm, balanced, not overly sweet, and just the right ending to the meal. Upon arriving for our reservation, the hostess was on the phone while two other staff members stood beside her. Unfortunately, none of them acknowledged us, so we waited until the phone call ended before being greeted and seated. Our table was in a great spot on the mezzanine overlooking the bar, which made for some fun people-watching throughout the evening. We started with martinis, Old Fashioneds, deviled eggs, and the yellowfin tuna. I could have skipped the deviled eggs, although the rest of the table really enjoyed them. The yellowfin tuna was the standout appetizer for me--it had a wonderful spicy kick and was absolutely delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the steak tartare, which was very good. My husband had the bone-in New York strip and enjoyed it overall, but the triple peppercorn sauce was served cold, which was disappointing. One small suggestion would be to use a non-slip plate or mat under the steak platter, as it slid around quite a bit while he was trying to cut it. The rest of our group also enjoyed their meals. The service was the most inconsistent part of the evening. Our primary server delivered our food but never returned to check on us after we had a chance to taste our meals, particularly the steaks. In fact, we didn't see him again until the end of dinner. Thankfully, several other servers stepped in throughout the meal to refill drinks, clear plates, and assist with dessert, so we were still well taken care of. We were celebrating a birthday, and while the complimentary ice cream was a nice touch, it was unusual that it never seemed to melt--even as we were preparing to leave. We also ordered the banana cream pie, which was mostly whipped cream with very little filling. The dessert menu could definitely use some improvement. I'd also love to see a larger selection of wines available by the glass. Overall, we had a pleasant evening with good food, a great atmosphere, and a beautiful view from the mezzanine. With more attentive service, stronger desserts, and a broader wine selection, this restaurant could easily elevate the entire dining experience. read more

Mill Iron 4 is the kind of restaurant Louisville needed and didn't know how to ask for: a modern steakhouse meets smokehouse that takes both identities seriously without losing sight of hospitality. We came for a birthday dinner and left with a new favorite. The room itself carries history. This is the old Enso space, which we loved deeply, and while that closing stung, Mill Iron 4 has stepped in with enough intention and talent to make you excited about what's here now rather than mournful about what's gone. We started with cocktails: a classic martini and an old fashioned, both crisp and well-executed, and were thrilled to spot Babylonstoren's Nebuchadnezzar on the wine list, one of our favorite wineries. A great sign before a single bite. The dry-aged beef tartare opened strong: black garlic, fine herbs, crispy artichoke hearts, lemon, toum, and chips to scoop it all up. A modern take that respected the classic. From there, the table split a bone-in strip, 21-day dry-aged Carlisle Ranch, that was as good as advertised. The thoughtful touch of cutting the bone off and plating it separately made the whole thing feel considered rather than just theatrical. Sides were equally strong. The creamed greens with lemon and 24-month parm were luscious, and the tater tots, made in-house, cooked in beef fat with thyme, were exactly as indulgent as they sound. The smoked mushrooms from Frondosa Farms with yuzu vinaigrette were the one minor miss; the smoke was just a touch too forward, pulling attention away from what was otherwise a beautiful ingredient. We finished with the banana cream pie: toasted meringue, brown butter graham, chocolate shaving, banana caramel, and it was a proper birthday send-off. Decadent without being heavy, and memorable in the way a great dessert should be. Mill Iron 4 has so much menu left for us to explore, and we're already looking forward to the excuse. So many good things to say about this place. The drinks were good no matter what I tried or what spirit was used. The sweet potato roll was so good but the real star was the beef tallow butter. This was just okay but I came in super hopeful due to its affiliation with other restaurants I frequent. The picanhna was pretty good. I was surprised when the plate came bloody meaning they didn't prep the plate prior to bringing it to the table. The romaine was the star of the show. The grilled Caesar salad was delicious, the bone marrow left nothing to be desired. The twice baked potato was great. I'd not order the side of mushrooms unless you like vinegar a ton, they come with a sauce that just killed those for me. I wish they'd advertised it properly on the menu. The owner/manager took care of them though. The picanha steak was tender and perfectly cooked to medium rare for me. We didn't get a chance to try the blue crab claws because they were just selling out as we entered. I'd say that a few things were a little salty to my liking, but still enjoyable. Honestly where they won for me and my wife was their drinks. The cocktails are great! I'll come back with friends just to try them. We finally got in! Been trying since it opened. Greeted warmly upon entering and ushered directly to our seats. The interior is fresh and clean, really nice atmosphere! We were at the bar and started with a Pretty Beefy old fashioned that was quite tasty and not sweet at all! My wife had the oyster appetizer and I had the spicy shrimp cocktail and oh my was it delicious! We got a great bottle of champagne, one of our favorites, you can tell John Grisanti of Nouvelle tends the wine and champagne list. For dinner we had their special steak flights, picture included, and it was so superior, well worth the price. As sides we got the twice baked potato and the Asparagus. Both of those were fantastic. You can tell, Noam Bilitzer is at the helm of another winner! Of course we couldn't skip dessert and we shared two of them: Banana Cream Pie and the Cowboy Flop Cake. Both excellent. We have been so excited to try this restaurant and it exceeded our expectations. We started off with a few drinks, with the Chokeberry Pisco Sour being my favorite, but they were all beautifully balanced. For appetizers our table split the crispy artichokes, bone marrow and grilled romaine. The bone marrow stole the show, do not skip on this one! For entrees we had the whole trout (so buttery, salty, really delicious flavor), beef cheeks (tender), and steak flight. My husband couldn't stop raving about the flight and said it was well worth the price, finding it fun to try cuts he hadn't had before. All the sides were great, we got the carrots, crispy onions, shishito peppers and twice baked potato-the crispy onions were the winner here. We were stuffed but couldn't pass up trying the banana cream pie for dessert. It was very rich so we are glad we split it 4 ways but a truly phenomenal end to the meal. So happy we got a reservation at this fantastic new restaurant--expected to love it because of how much we love MeeshMeesh. Everything we ordered was superb. The blue crab claws were plentiful, and the romaine hearts were delicious with a really pleasant grilled flavor (love a warm salad). The dressing was so good I ran my complimentary roll through it to clean the plate. My husband was very pleased with his rare cuts flight (three 6 oz. servings)--he especially loved the oyster & found the menu's description ("melts like butter") accurate. The spaghetti squash was smoky (as one would expect of something from the smoker). Several great vegetarian options! I brightened the squash up a little with some of the chimichurri we ordered as a sauce side. We split the rich & creamy mac & cheese--love the noodle shape that held the sauce so well. Mill Iron 4 was great! We loved everything we had from cocktails to appetizers to entrees and sides. Our waiter Taylor was awesome and very helpful. We tried the Mill Iron 4 old fashioned (my favorite), the beef tallow old fashioned (flavor of beef was a bit much for us), and the espresso martini (wife's favorite). For appetizers, the fried artichokes were delicious and we were blown away by the bone marrow (order with a luge!) We had the rare cut flight, which was very good and unique and for sides we loved the tater tots and the bok choy was fresh and acidic. I've been dying to try this restaurant as I am a big fan of Noam and MeeshMeesh. I think the steak was excellent - my husband and I split the sampler and two sides. I also loved the banana cream pie dessert. The cocktails were okay. Service was excellent - our server described everything in detail and answered all our questions. I was really hoping for more of Noam's delicious sauces and flavors that he uses at meeshmeesh. If you like rare cuts of beef, this restaurant is good, but otherwise I think it is another good steak place in lousiville. read more

My complaint was that's on a Saturday night we placed our order at 8pm and both steaks I wanted were 86ed, which one being a special I understood this. However, this is a steak house and even though all steaks are dry aged, there should be ample cuts available for patrons. I ended up with the bone-in strip and it was lacking flavor, minus the over saltiness. For 89 dollars I would expect more. And the chimichurri was very average as well. I want to say it was an off night but 2 members in my party ordered the hangar and had the same complaint. I love dry aged beef so I was disappointed. was really excited to try Mill Iron 4, especially because I absolutely love MeeshMeesh Mediterranean and North of Bourbon, so my expectations were high. The service was great. our server was incredibly sweet and attentive, which definitely made the experience better. The space itself is also really cool, and I can already tell the patio will be a great spot once summer rolls around. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't great. I hate even saying that because I was genuinely excited about this place, but the dishes we tried were pretty underwhelming and didn't live up to what I was hoping for (or paying for). I'm still giving 3 stars because the service was so good, and I know this is a brand new restaurant that's probably still working out some kinks. I'm hopeful they'll get things dialed in because the concept and location have a lot of potential. I'll definitely give it another shot in the future. read more

Amazing food and service! Have been a few times and every experience has been great. But I have to give 5++++ stars due to a more recent visit where the chef and management went above and beyond for my party of 14. I had family visiting (some, first time to Louisville) and we are all big "foodies". The space is very intimate which is great but I was not sure if they could accommodate us. To my surprise, we were able to make a reservation and the GM (Abby), along with the chef, helped me choose menu items that would feed all of us as well give us some variety. Everything was excellent! My family kept thanking me for setting up dinner at the perfect spot. Mill Iron 4 will definitely stay on our dinner rotation as a favorite in Louisville! read more

This is the new hot kid on the block. Booked for weeks on end and was lucky enough to grab a reservation that opened up day of. I was very excited to try it seeing as it's the same chef as MeeshMeesh. It's where Enso used to be and they kept a lot of the previous architecture/seating. To start, they have a lot interesting cocktails. They try to use all parts of their meats so they incorporate marrow in some of their cocktails. My husband got the vintage Negroni, which I tried and was excellent. My wine by the glass was also very good. All their wines are from Southwest America or southern hemisphere. We had the bone marrow appetizer, which was really delicious. They also bring out rolls with marrow whipped butter, which was also really good. For the main course, we shared the spaghetti squash, the rare steak flight, and then got a side of mushrooms and tater tots. The rare cuts were cooked well with a lot of flavor. There were some parts that were chewy, but I think that's to be expected with some of these cuts. The spaghetti squash they cook over an open flame and has a nice smokey flavor, but I think it could have used something else to make it standout. The mushrooms were probably my favorite thing we ordered, comes on a really savory tahini sauce. Tater tots were fine, but I would skip them next time to try something else. Had the banana cream pie for dessert, and that was another favorite. I would definitely come back and enjoyed my meal, but nothing was completely transcendent to the point where it makes sense that it's so hard to get a reservation.
