Crostino di Tonno - loved this. It was light and so flavorful. The homemade stracciatella cheese really elevated it. Eggplant Caponata - this was okay. My friend enjoyed it but it needed to be served with bread. Salsiccia Alla Pizzaiola - this was good-great, my friends really liked it. It was a tomato sauce with sausage. Not soupy but very saucy. Barchetta di Pane - this was the next actually which surprised us all. The bread, cheese, and sauce were all so flavorful, fresh, and complimented each other. TS Farms Chicken Quarter- this was very good. My friend who got the branzino ends dip likening this more and I ended up liking the branzino more. The chicken was definitely more filling than the branzino. Branzino- this was light and refreshing. It's a small portion but very good. I would order this again for sure. Rhubarb Pastry - fantastic. Maybe a touch sweet for me but everyone at our table loved this. Service was great. Very knowledgeable of the menu and kind. Everything came out at a good speed: not slow and not too fast. (I hate when things come out too fast). It's a NY style atmosphere with lots of natural light in the front from windows and darker in the back. I visited Perso on a Thursday night with the party of four. We had a reservation and needed it. The place was packed on weeknights they have a tasting menu for $29. This tasting menu is a great value and we all ordered it. I ordered the cod, which was excellent . The appetizers were similar to pizzas and they were fantastic as well. I don't go to Louisville often, but if I went back, I would definitely try to revisit this restaurant . read more

The lamb shank, though, was downright bad--dry, under-seasoned Now, to be fair, I'm from Los Angeles, so my standards might be a little skewed. We're kind of spoiled when it comes to food. But even setting that aside, this just didn't hit the mark. The saving grace? The cucumber salad. Shockingly good. Crisp, flavorful, and perfectly dressed. It's been almost two months since I dined at Perso, and I'm still thinking about it. First off, my biggest suggestion if you want to dine here: Do the prix fixe menu! Perso offers a prix fixe menu, Sunday through Thursday, for just $29. A portion of all prix fixe sales go to Blessings in a Backpack, which helps feed local children who suffer from food insecurity. Through this menu, you get the pick of a starter, entree and dessert, and if you go with others ordering from this menu, you could order pretty much everything on it. And this menu blew me away! For the starters, we tried the Brussels Sprouts Salad, Apple and Radicchio and Salsiccia alla Pizzaiola. The Brussels Sprouts Salad with its copious cheese and sprouts was the star for me, though all three were wonderful. Not a snoozer among them. For my entree, I got the Barchetta di Pane, which is served in a bread boat (!!!), with pomodoro, fontina, confit garlic and herbs. This comes out on a large platter with a scissors to cut through the bread. More entrees should come with scissors! Think of this like pizza bread amped up to 11. Hands down the best thing I ate. We also tried the desserts. Loved the ice cream! Perso also stands out for cocktails. The ambiance of Perso was cool with a bit of an Italian cafe flair. We ate at an outdoor table to soak up what we figured was one of the final warm nights of the year, but there are indoor tables as well. And after you're done, you can head into the back patio for its Segreto Garden Bar ("segreto" means "secret" in Italian). Another supremely cool spot to take in. It's open March through October. Love that Shelby Park has such cool, delicious spots like Perso. Definitely one of a kind! read more

Overall, was not impressed by this restaurant, especially for its price tag. I had the cast iron pasta which was good, but we waited an hour for our food without much checking in from our waitress. With so many great restaurants just a short walk or drive away, I would go with somewhere else. read more

So, so impressive, I absolutely loved this place. I unfortunately came here alone, sat at the bar. It was restaurant week and my husband and his brothers wanted to go to a basketball game. I dropped them off and had a hell of a meal on my own. I started with the crostino di tonno. I love raw tuna, but cooked tuna skeeves me out. This changed my whole perspective, and was an incredible way to start the meal. Then came the osso bucco. It was so perfect and tender. The sauces that accompanied it were perfect. I capped off the dinner with the chef's choice apple dessert, which was wonderful as well. The ambiance and locale were also stunning! I didn't even feel like I was in Louisville when walking in and around the restaurant. It felt so upscale. I really cannot wait to be back, and take some people next time! Perso is about a seven minute walk from our house, but we have only gone there one time for a date. That night was finally in December 2024 to celebrate a late Christmas. After spending a lot of money on traveling, we wanted a nice dinner but at a more budget-friendly cost. We picked a Sunday because that is one of days they have a $30 prix fixe menu with an app, entree, and dessert. Somehow, even though space is limited and it's a popular place, my wife was able to get us a last minute reservation. Even the bar seats are reserved, so we felt very fortunate. We were seated in the back room where you're surrounded by a working kitchen and a lot of hustle and bustle. As the evening went on, the atmosphere became slightly less enjoyable as other groups were seated and gave the servers very little room to maneuver. The cocktail was really enjoyable. We had a glass of red wine for our second drink, which was great for the price point. For food, I picked the Salsiccia Alla Pizzanola, Springer chicken, and ice cream. The pizza app was amazing! I ate it slow because I wanted to enjoy every bite. For my entree, the chicken was cooked perfect, but it was admittedly a more bland flavor than I was expecting. I forget what the ice cream was, but that was also awesome. My wife also enjoyed her meal. Definitely open to trying this again. Despite the packed room, it was a great dinner and I strongly recommend for a date night. Based on some of the food I saw around me, I'm very excited to try more items on the menu. Definitely a memorable dining experience. The four of us decided on the Chef's Table menu as recommended by the amazing staff. This restaurant was on my friend's list for a while. It used to be Scarlet's bakery which had closed a few years back. The space looks about the same but of course, looks more upscale. We had a reservation, but for a Tuesday night we didn't need one. A few groups here and there, but most tables weren't filled. We started off with some cocktails from the menu and then decided to do the prix fixe since it was a good deal. We both got the tuna crostini as the starter. Delicious and a nice crunch from the flatbread! Not heavy either! For entrees, my friend opted for the pasta while I got the branzino. Deliciously cooked with a nice crispiness! I also enjoyed the taste of the tomato sauce on my friend's pasta. For dessert, we got the fig streusel. It was kinda small which was perfect after already eating an appetizer and an entree. Perso was the final stop on my restaurant hop during #louisvillerestaurantweek. I definitely know what I'm doing because this was an awesome choice. I dined alone, so I sat bellied up at the bar. My beverage of choice is wine, but Perso's cocktail menu was too interesting to pass over. I opted for the Lavender Manhattan. Either this bartender is one-of-a-kind or this drink is from another dimension. Or both. When I saw the genie floating up from the glass in a cloud of smoke, I knew this was going to be the beginning of a blissful dining experience. Perso had a special menu for Restaurant Week, and because I was teetering between the Pasta E Fagoli and the Crostino di Tonno for my first course, my bartender helped me decide. The Pasta E Fagoli was cranberry-beany and delicious, and had me wishing I had a spoon to scoop up and savor every bit of the soup that remained after I ate all the campanelle and fagoli. A small warning, though. Although it wasn't super spicy, I struggle with spiciness, which even when mild sometimes sends me into an eye-watering coughing fit. Once I get beyond it with a few sips of water though, I'm able finish it off like a respectable foodie would. For the second course, I went with the Cast Iron Baked Pasta. I doubt you can ever go wrong with baked pasta but I went all the way right with this dish. By the time I was halfway through its incredible cheesaliciousness and beginning to feel full, I had to will myself to put the fork down and allow the rest to be boxed so that I could handle the third course. It wasn't easy. My options included Ice Cream of the Day or Chef's Choice. Well, that was easy. Chef knows best. When I say my mind was blown by the tender, flaky, perfectly-flavoured fig strudel.... With the house-made mascarpone on the side? Just go and try it if you don't believe me. I enjoyed the chill atmosphere at this place as well. The food service and bar service were both attentive and pleasant. Did I already mention the Lavender Manhattan that's mixed using the handmade Tito vodka? I was once lost, but I've found a new favorite spot at Perso tonight! I opted for the Prix Fixe experience because decisions are hard and there was a great variety in my three course meal (I forgot to take a picture of the pizzaiola and the Pawpaw Gimlet I'm sorry). We tried some starters too (also not pictured) but the fontina rillet and marinated mushroom are must shares for the table. Unfortunately, Segreto was closed but I want to go back and enjoy another cocktail there. I love a gin drink and the Pawpaw Gimlet is a must order! The playlist they had going was hit after hit and created a very pleasant dining environment. I will be thinking about the hazelnut ice cream for a while, it was so good and so fresh. Checked this place out last night for a family dinner and it was so good! It was nice to try some dishes that we normally haven't before and I liked that the serving was family style so we could mix and match! For drinks, I got the strawberry shrub which was okay, my sister got the espresso martini which was delicious! For apps, we got the roasted octopus and beet tartare - both were so good and dishes we normally wouldn't eat! For dinner we split the dry aged steak which came with chimichurri sauce (it was fine) and a pomegranate steak sauce that was delicious. Attended a wedding here recently (Oct 3, 2025) and it was excellent. I was taken on a journey of food. The staff was extremely professional and the food was amazing. My only complaint in the volume of noise in a small venue. If you suffer from any sort of hearing disability, you may find it difficult to hear people. I consulted with non-hearing impaired and they admitted that the venue was extremely loud in small confined space. Some restaurants go for that loud and noisy ambiance. Some newspapers are starting to rate sound level for restaurants, this would receive a lower review IF everyone is talking. All that being said, it's worth the food and a repeat visit. read more

Roasted octopus with beef tongue, olive tapenade, butternut squash purée The beef tongue was so tasty and star of the dish. Octopus was soft but lacked flavor. Clams pizza - I love the flavor of clams, especially on a pizza. But this pizza had no clams (that I could visibly see) and no flavor of clams either. Pizza was good as a veggie pizza. Crust was crispy and tons of cheese pull. There were a lot of butternut squash and whole gloves of garlic. The Italian margarita I had to start and it was so good I had two. For dinner we did the prix fixe menu. I found 29.99 to be a bit pricey for this, but did come with three courses. The space is pretty, though when packed it was hard to hear my husband sitting across the table from me. We started with splitting the ricotta and the mesclun salad. Amazing experience! Hubby and I had lamented recently that our dining experiences had been disappointing recently in Louisville. But tonight we landed at Square Cut and had a delicious meal with great service and atmosphere! Glad we made reservations on their website even though we went early @5PM on a Saturday. They were packed by 5:45PM and turning away those without reservations. Next time, we will Lyft there. It's the kind of place you want to hang at and have more drinks. Street parking only. Had my first "Italian Margarita" made with tequila, limoncello and magic. Hubby had Atrium's "Steep Hill in Vegas" and a high wire beer. I switched to a good Chianti. The food: Kale salad with pomegranate seeds, pine nuts and goat cheese was delicious. Also got a house made ricotta spread with pickled celery, sun dried tomatoes, raisins and pine nuts -- serviced with house made bread. Main courses: Husband got the Salumi pizza and I got the baked pasta dish. Both of the dishes were so amazing. We shared and we have great leftovers to savor. Finally a place to come back to and it's in an area we need to discover more of in Germantown. Side note: Ladies restroom was nice and clean, but soooooo chilly! I made a reservation for 6 last night with the plan to do the Chef's Table experience. The Chef will create a dinner experience for you, featuring seasonal items and main menu items. Available for parties 2 people up to 8 people. Full table participation required. Street parking only. Small restaurant with limited bar seating. I would recommend making a reservation via their website to ensure you get a table on the weekends. The restaurant was completely full when we left at 8pm. After requesting the chef's table experience our waitress asked if we had any food allergies or preferences. The first round of food came out quickly and fresh. We started with a Liver Pate, Beat Salad, Soft Baked Egg, Mussels, Ricotta, Stracciatella and warm bread. My favorite was the in house made Ricotta and Stracciatella on the bread. The cheese was so flavorful. Next came out the Formaggio and Clam pizza. I personally did not try the clam pizza but others at the table enjoyed it. I loved the garlic cream sauce on the Formaggio pizza. Then the only dish I was able to snap a quick photo of.... the duck with pumpkin puree and cauliflower. The duck was crispy on the outside with a great tasting sauce. The pumpkin puree didn't do much for me, but it has never been my favorite. The only hiccup during our dinner is that the bar service was slow. I felt like we were waiting for a long period of time for cocktails. Wait staff was constantly rounding with water to refill our glasses. This was our entire tables first time at Square Cut and our meal was AMAZING! I went into this experience with an open mind and almost tried everything. I walked away with a new appreciation for food. I was too busy enjoying the experience to take photos. Perso - Part of the Chefs Table Experience - pumpkin purée & duck - Italian Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

I have an ongoing, informal fine-dining meet-up with three guy friends, and this week we elected to hit Perso. Italian tends to be a genre that I enjoy... but also one that I don't enjoy paying a lot for. I find that generally, the types of Italian dishes served simply don't feel as if they merit a high price point. I don't feel that way about Perso. At Perso, the seating is very comfortable. We didn't overhear surrounding conversations. We had plenty of space for our foursome and plenty of table real estate for the dishes we ordered. We snagged three appetizers and four entrees and we split them all, so I got to taste a wide array of offerings. I'll start with the drinks. One buddy ordered an Old Fashioned, which he described as "decent." I was eyeing the Lavender Manhattan (2/5), but one of my friends ordered it and so I decided to opt for the Columbo (5/5). It was a stroke of luck. The Lavender Manhattan was tiny and - though the smokiness of the presentation was novel - the drink itself wasn't as interesting as we hoped. We all agreed that the Columbo was the best of the three cocktails. Though it doesn't contain Campari, that was the primary note I got from it. The Brussels Sprouts sounded amazing in the menu description. Though I loved them, I've seldom met a Brussels Sprout that I didn't like. Objectively, these were not among the best I've tasted. The table agreed that we were hoping for a little more diversity of texture and flavor. 3.5/5 The Braised Endive was expensive for the amount of food served. The flavors were complimentary, a nice blend of sweet, tangy, and salty. I'm glad I got to try it, but I wouldn't order it again. 3/5 The Fermented Lentil Dip was a pleasant surprise. I almost vetoed it, but the waitress vouched for it and convinced us to give it a try. I had low expectations, but it was the best appetizer we had. Black garlic is flipping delicious. Eating this really made me want to try my hand at replicating it at home. The bread was a great traveling companion for the dip. If you like hummus, you'll love this. 5/5 Entrees Sturgeon - The table unanimously agreed that this was the weakest item we tried. When you have a light fish dish, you really need to set it off with an incredible sauce or complimentary components (nuts, fruits, spices, etc). This dish fell flat. As one of my friends put it, "If we came here and ordered our own entrees and I paid $42 for the sturgeon, I would have been pissed." I love fish, but even I felt like it was too plain Jane to be taken seriously. 1.5/5 Clams Pizza - I talked the boys into this one, and everyone loved it. I adored the creativity of clams and butternut squash on a pizza. Who knew? I had a hunch that the combination would work, and it truly did. One caveat: eat it while it's hot! It's a shadow of itself once it cools off. A good portion of food, fantastic crust, flavorful cheese, and unique elements. 4.5/5 Florida Royal Red Shrimp - there are few things better than legitimate Royal Red Shrimp. I discovered them in Key West, and I've been in love with them ever since. They're large and sweet, tasting like a synthesis of shrimp and lobster. These shrimp did not live up to my idea of Royal Red Shrimp. The dish wasn't bad, but the shrimp in this dish were anemic and standard - perhaps slimy even - and the polenta wasn't rich and complex. Very straightforward to the point of being homogenous. I've had far superior shrimp and grits dishes at less than half the cost. 2.5/5 Cast Iron Baked Pasta - I was against ordering something so "boring," and boy was I wrong! Perso nailed this dish. The bolognese sauce was exquisite: sweet with a hint of kick. The pasta itself had a perfect texture, with even a slight patina of crispiness where it baked against the bowl. A hearty, mouth-watering adventure. 5/5 A friend ordered the Upside Down Tiramisu, which had a significant brownie vibe, and didn't seem impressed nor disappointed. I can't score it since I didn't try it. Our service was very good and all of us came away feeling very positive about Perso. I'll be coming back again to try some of the other enticing items on their creative menu. read more

My husband and I visited Perso for the first time last night. We opted for the three course chef's meal. When the appetizers arrived we were absolutely blown away by the variety and taste! You know those moments when you take a bite and can't believe how extremely good something tastes? Perso absolutely delivered that experience for us! For the main course we received cod as well as baked rigatoni which were both delicious. The cod was cooked to perfection, so flavorful and flakey! Perso's Prix Fixe Menú is available every Sunday through Wednesday and offers a three course meal for $29. It's no secret that I'm a fine dining enthusiast; but who doesn't love a bargain? If you're looking for a nice night out without breaking the bank, this is your spot. Perso sits at the corner of Oak and Shelby in the same location as the former Square Cut Pizza. The giant windows in the front provide an abundance of natural light. The interior has a modern industrial vibe with painted exposed brick, plants, and Edison bulbs hanging on pendants. One wall with wooden slats gives a Scandinavian feel to the main dining area. It's a small-ish intimate space with a beautiful patio. For my first course, I chose Crostino Di Tonno- olive oil poached tuna, stracciatella, pickled celery, and Calabrian chili. I followed my first course with olive oil poached swordfish, corn chowder, and golden zucchini scapece. For dessert, I had the chef's choice: apple strudel with whipped cream cheese. My husband chose heirloom tomato with roasted eggplant, bagna couda, and fine herbs. For his main course, he had pork tenderloin with edamame, beef dashi, and fine herbs. We both opted for the chef's choice for dessert. I tasted each of his courses and they were every bit as delicious as my own. The edamame provided the perfect texture and his tenderloin dashi tasted gravy-esque without being overly heavy. Mostly notable, besides the insane deal for such decadence, was the fresh flavor combinations throughout. Our table had fresh rosemary as a centerpiece. The corn chowder was right up my alley. I could've licked my bowl if I wasn't trying to pretend to have a bit of class. The swordfish was tender, juicy, and not overly fishy. The tuna flatbread was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The mint on top of my whipped cream cheese truly set it apart. My lavender Manhattan was earthy and smoky, not just in flavor. It was literally smoking. My husband had an old-fashioned. Neither of us were disappointed. Our server, Amanda, was phenomenal. She offered recommendations. She visited our table to ensure we were satisfied the perfect number of times. Her warm demeanor was professional while also being personable. She was everything we hope for in a server. Perso's Sunday through Wednesday Prix Fixe Menú is hands-down one of the best opportunities for an affordable night out. Wish I could do a 4.5 review, it's almost perfect. The menu changes so frequently that there's no point reviewing individual items. I've been at different times of the year, and the menu is seasonal and always creative. The prix fixe weekday option is nice because it lets you try several things in small portions. You won't be disappointed. It's a small place so make a reservation. read more
