Fries with fish wrap in the back
    Julie M.

This is an old, old place, it reminds me of the bars on the south side of Chicago. Came here for the BBQ because I heard it was great. First off the waitress was running the whole floor by herself, bar, running food, cashing people out, so props to her, that is a lot to keep organized. We started off with the Bud's Original Wings (12 wings smoked, tossed in hot Barbeque). I'm telling you right now, if you go there for no other reason, let it be for these wings. Huge, meaty and amazing, these are worth the trip for sure. I wanted the ribs but sadly they were out so I got the fish wrap with fries. The fish was nice and flaky and fresh, the coleslaw a little too wet and drippy and the tortilla was raw, so I ended up deconstructing the thing and just eating the fish. Fries were great though. I would definitely come back, it seems like a chill vibe in there and if you are homesick for Chicago you will feel right at home here.

    Smoked wings with teriyaki.

Just had an early lunch at Bud's in Dixie. We were the first table in and were greeted and welcomed. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which are in my opinion the best in town. I got the smoked wings which were cooked perfectly, my friend got the fish fingers which were also very good. The service was fantastic and friendly. We enjoyed everything and will definately be back!

Fish finger basket and cup of bean soup

I can't stray away from the fish fingers and bean soup to eat anything else here because both are SO SO GOOD. The fish fingers and fries are perfectly deep fried and seasoned with a light, crispy coating of batter and moist fish inside. And then the BEANS. They include small diced ham, potatoes, celery, and carrot in their beans here - with raw onion, shredded cheese, and some delicious cornbread on the side. Flavorful and so homey! To top it off, service is always so friendly and prices are very reasonable as well. This has become a go-to spot for my son and I. It's your typical welcoming hole in the wall - just like I like.

This was my first experience here and I was thoroughly impressed. This may be bar food, but it's delicious bar food. They have options that range from burgers, fish strips, delicious soups, and so much more. This is definitely a local spot for many in the area. The service was efficient and the staff were very friendly. My friends and I were seated promptly and the waitress was very personable with all of us. For starters we got honey chipotle wings to share and I ordered a cup of loaded potato soup. The wings were delicious if you like spicy and the soup was so flavorful and full of bacon. Entrees ranged from fish and chips to the burgers along with the 5cheese burger. This one consists of two grilled cheeses as the bun for a burger. Overall, I definitely plan on coming back, this place was great!

My mom can I came here for a quick lunch before heading to track. We both opted for the fish fingers. My mom got the fingers and chips. It's actual potato chips. I had the fish fingers and fries. Fish is amazing! The texture and quality of the fish. The service was fantastic. The price was awesome for drinks too! We will be back for the BBQ!

On my recent visit home, I wouldn't have imagined I would hit every dive bar in Louisville. I am not complaining, I had some of the best food every on this trip. It was good enough to go back a second time with my son and his wife. However, it was like night and day difference, so it might matter which night you go. The first night we went, I think it was Friday or Saturday and the place was busy, but not bad. We ordered pork ribs, slaw, green beans, fried green tomatoes and bean soup. It was really good, all of it. I am not a major fan of pork ribs, but wasn't going to be the fussy one in the group and got them. They were not at all greasy, the smoke flavor on them was perfect and I loved them. The sauces are on the table, so I tried a smidge of all four and liked them for the most part, as much as a non BBQ sauce fan can. The fried green tomatoes were not overly greasy and had nice thick cut to them. The bean soup had huge hunks of ham in it and sort of a sweet flavor. My husband loved it, as did my daughter in law. We went back with my son the night before Thanksgiving and we barely found a table to sit and it was so loud with a band, none of us could hear each other talking. It was funny to watch the drunk middleagers dancing on the floor, so it sort of made the ear splitting noise worth it. If you go on a night like that, don't judge the service on that. The first night the girl was right there, the second time we didn't see her for long long stretches and she told us it was only her and one other girl in the entire place. The food was good and I wasn't sorry we went back. Try them for good BBQ at a reasonable price.

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

Must try: Rib-Eye Steak and Asparagus side dish!…read more Why: That rib-eye steak (medium-rare) was so dang juicy, tender, and flavorful. I could taste the buttery goodness and loved the chimichurri sauce. Neat experience to see the waiter flame up to melt the butter and burn the rosemary on top. The asparagus with parmigiano-regianno cheese and guanciale (salt cured pork bits) was also amazing. Plate presentation also looked great. Notes: I came on a Sunday evening and they weren't too busy. I sat at the bar to eat dinner. I had a long travel day so wanted to treat myself to a steak dinner. Waiter/bartender was welcoming and helpful. Spacious and clean restaurant. Clean bathrooms also. Great place for date night!

Edit added next day: I should maybe add a star for the managements quick response when i emailed…read morethem the review. Or maybe not. But I believe they were sincere when they said they took my comments seriously and will look into the problems i noted. Original review below. Such a disappointment in so many ways. It started off nicely enough as I arrived for my reservation. I was given a choice of seating preferences (bar vs table) and my window-side table had a nice view outside and of the beautifully appointed room. Unfortunately things went downhill from there. I started with a drink and an appetizer as I considered the entree options. Prosciutto Montaditos: "toast topped with spreadable cheese and house-cured ham, drizzled with honey. The toast wasn't. It more resembled stale bread that was heated too long in a toaster oven: so dry it shattered into crumbs when I bit into it, with no browning on the outside and devoid of any flavor. The cheese, which might have been chèvre, was fine, but there was way too much of it. There was so little prosciutto (one thin slice per toast piece) that it could hardly be detected on its own and when I tried a small piece by itself I honestly couldn't tell the difference between this and something I'd buy at the grocery. But Cured specializes in house-cured meats so I expected to be wowed. As well, the honey drizzle was insufficient. When my waiter returned, not commenting on the mess of crumbs all over the table I made from attempting to eat this, and the substantial uneaten portions of bread and cheese, I placed my entree order. Knowing that the steaks here are a la carte, and sides are typically ordered separately (and the sides offered are very few) I inquired about the Rabo De Toro (oxtail, bell peppers, onions, garlic, carrots slow cooked with tomato paste and red wine), asking if it is a stew, like other oxtail preparations I have had. His answer was vague but he seemed to be saying yes. I ordered that. Entree arrived while I was still working on my appetizer, mid-chew with toast in hand. I had to scramble to make room for him to put it on my small table. Poor timing; a big no-no in a high end restaurant. It wasn't a stew. It was basically two chunks of meat on the plate, with a sauce on the side. It was tasty to be sure, and cooked expertly, but without any substantial vegetables (they were cooked down and used as a mirepoix to flavor the sauce) this disappeared quickly and left me wondering why I ordered it. The wording on the menu was so misleading, being more of a recipe than a description. And what's with the large flower on the plate? Edible flowers such as nasturtiums are welcome but this was something else so I asked Chatgpt which thinks it is a "purple orchid, most likely a Dendrobium, commonly used as an edible-looking but typically garnish-only on restaurant plates." So it may or may not be edible but it certainly wasn't appealing. Inedible or inappropriate garnishes have no business being on a food plate. I was drinking lightly that night so I kept it to one Aperol Spritz. It was good but why the tiny straw that didn't even reach the bottom of the glass? When the level got low and I could no longer use the straw I couldn't drink it without spilling ice and drink on myself given the rounded shape of the stem glass. When the waiter came back after I finished (the only time he did so) he asked how things were. "Well, since you asked," I began, calmly and clearly telling him of the many ways I was disappointed. He listened but didn't ask any followup questions, nor offered to pass on the feedback. All he did was apologize for my experience. Which was nice but woefully insufficient given the level of my dissatisfaction that I made clear. When he then asked if I wanted dessert I had to suppress a laugh! I wasn't going to take a chance of anything else going wrong. Even if was comped (which would be the courteous and appropriate thing to do in this situation but certainly not expected or required) I would have passed on it. He then returned with my check. Could things get any worse? Apparently they could. After a momentary shock looking at the huge number I quickly realized he gave me the wrong check! Easily straightened out as I looked around and saw another dining party also looking confused. As we exchanged checks between us I inquired how their meal went. Apparently they were satisfied. I'm happy for them. Mistakes happen and no big deal, but it was a darkly comical way to add insult to this highly disappointing experience. Before I left I stopped at the front to talk to the host, a young man. I again calmly explained my disappointment and asked that he pass on the feedback. He wouldn't even make eye contact, just sullenly looked down and muttered some sort of apology and assured me that he would pass it on. I doubt that he did. As I left he wished me, "Have a nice day," the sarcasm and derision inescapable. I wished him the same.
