Sam's Chowdermobile had the longest line out of all the food trucks at Half Moon Bay Wine and Jazz Festival - and for good reason! When we finally got to the front of the line, I asked if I can sub out the bread in my Lobster Roll for a handful of Old Bay Fries, and thankfully that was fine. My friend ordered a regular Lobster Roll, and the food was ready (quite literally) immediately. It was totally worth the wait - delicious chunks of lobster and perfectly crispy fries. The fries also had just the right amount of Old Bay seasoning to be flavorful but not overwhelming. Would happily eat here again!
Driven by the restaurant many times and its always packed. So have not tried yet. So when the mobile popped up nearby we went to try it out. We both ordered the 2 piece fish and chips, and a chowder (because you just have to try it. The food was quick, hot and delicious. Decent size for a food truck and great price for what you get. I could have shared one order. I was full. So took the clam chowder with us and didn't want to waste it so I ate it... Im glad I did even as full as I was. It was delicious. Full of flavor. Beautiful!
If you like consistency, great tasting and mouth watering, then you need to try Sam's Chowder Mobile or at their restaurant in HMB. Included in this video is the main lobster roll for $22.50 and quart of clam chowder for $14. It's a good deal since the cups are going for $12. The bread is very buttery and the taste have you wanting more. Highly recommend!! Can't wait till the next time they are in the neighborhood. Sam's Chowder Mobile stopped by my worksite today! What a treat! Ordered myself a shrimo Po' Boy with Old Bay fries... and I was not at all disappointed! You get a hearty helping of crispy, fried shrimp, atop a bed of lettuce and tomato dressed up lightly with a creamy special sauce, and finally, hugged ever so gently between to slices of cloud-like artisan buns... warm, soft, delicious!! They also offer a lot more options under the sea, such as golden brown fish and chips, absolutely to die for lobster rolls (highly revered!) and creamy clam chowder ...but I was truly content with my choice. Note: They reign primarily in half moon bay, but are always available for public events, private parties and much more! Check them out! Your tastebuds will thank you!!
I had their fried shrimp po boy and it was the best po boy I've had. My sandwich came with a healthy amount of shrimp and their garlic aioli really tied everything together. I hope they come around foster city again so I can try their lobster roll. The guy who took my order was nice and helpful. They do accept credit cards which is a plus.
I've been to the restaurant location a few years ago in Half Moon Bay and loved it! So glad they operate via food truck too. No driving a hour and a half in traffic anymore to get their tasty food yay! Normally, I would get the long lobster roll with clam chowder, their signature items, but today decided to go get em tacos and cakes. The food is delicious as always and the crab cake actually tasted even better than at the restaurant, less salty yummy! The sauce they give you to dip the crab cake is so much better than normal tartar sauce. I put some of that on my taco. The deep fried fish taco was so big! Very surprised. The Po Boy Sandwich with shrimps is also oh so good. Portions were great! Lots of fries included too. It's been 30 minutes and missing the food already. Please come back soon!
I haven't been this disappointed since I got $1 from the Tooth Fairy when the going rate was $5 according to what my friends received. Two of my co-workers and I got the crab cake special. With tax it's basically $15 for one small kiddie crab cake, cold fries, and coleslaw placed in one of those small salsa containers. I felt like Sponge Bob Square pants, the portion was that small. The crab cake was so bland and lukewarm we would have been better off grabbing a box from Trader Joe's or something. None of us were happy with our order. Epic fail. I should have gone to Sponge Bob's Krusty Krab restaurant under the sea. I'm sure it would have been better, even an imaginary crab cake is better than an awful one.
Sam's chowder mobile was here today in front of Moxsie in Palo Alto! Michael L. and I were suppose to meet up for lunch, but I was just too hungry so I ate without him! haha I just tried their famous lobster roll! There's a $10 "shortie" (2/3 the size of the $15 one) and a $15 lobster roll. So the only difference is really the size. I ended up getting the $10 one! It is kinda pricey... but after about 3 bites into it and the toasted buttery roll, it's really tasty! :) Wished their lobster rolls were a tad bit cheaper... $8/$11 maybe? They take credit cards... including AMEX!! O_O Wow! Very awesome for a food truck! I'd be tempted to organize a UYE lunch food truck in front of my work one day!! :) Doesn't that sound yummy? I've wanted to try their clam chowder since forever. After my failed attempt to dine at the restaurant, I thought it was hopeless. Then I saw Sam's Chowdermobile in my vicinity. SUPER EXCITED! My excitement did not last. For $5, the portion of clam chowder was kid size. It would've been fine if it was orgasmic. But there was nothing special about it. It was actually rather bland. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
Coworker took me here for my birthday. yum! Check their website to find out where they will be. Ordered the full size lobster roll, trust me, the shortie just won't cut it. :) The rolls are toasted, nice and buttery. If you're worried about calories, don't eat this and stick to water. :P Lobster wasn't too bad. Had some celery in it and other spices. I'm from the East Coast so I'm used to traditional lobster rolls with mayo mixed into the lobster, but I'm not complaining. Also ordered the bay fries. They are ok, a little to salty for me. Service is great. They were all friendly. I would come back for this. :)
FINALLY.. after months of watching them on twitter and drooling when my friends said they were going to get some I got a lobster roll biyahs! I got a shortie (small lobster roll) and it was simply put the best thing I had eaten in a while. It was rich, buttery, and the lobster spoke for itself. I was satisfied completely. Although some celery like stuff was in the roll it was 99% meat. The bread was soggy but crispy at the same time and once I started eating I could not stop stuffing my face. Since there were about 7 of us we were able to try a variety of things. I got to sample the calamari which was awesome!! It was light, crispy and perfectly fried (no dark coloring). I also got a few bites of Bobby's fish n chips.. the batter on the fish was surprisingly light and crispy.. even after it had been sitting for ten minutes or so (someone couldn't find parking hehehe). The fries varied..someone's they were super salty another they were fine. Other pluses 1. Quick service 2. Accept credit cards 3. Organic soda/ Kettle Chips Overall TIZZLE LIKES YOU GUYS LOTS!
You should've seen the line wrap around the lobster fest today for the chowdermobile. We had the clam chowder, which was probably the best in the Bay Area. Nice chunks of fresh clam and potatoes. Not overly heavy in cream. I wolfed it down because I came prepared for a major pig out. We also had the lobster roll, which was fully loaded with lobster meat on a toasted (brioche?) roll. I've noticed the lobster meat on my sandwich was a bit dry, but other than that it exceeded my expectations with the flavor and the choice in bread. The ordering did take a while for some reason, as the line continue to stretch with hungry customers. I'm believing the hype!

I haven't been this disappointed since I got $1 from the Tooth Fairy when the going rate was $5 according to what my friends received. Two of my co-workers and I got the crab cake special. With tax it's basically $15 for one small kiddie crab cake, cold fries, and coleslaw placed in one of those small salsa containers. I felt like Sponge Bob Square pants, the portion was that small. After having this place bookmarked forever, my friend and I finally made an adventure out of it and drove out to Golden Gate Park to try their food and hang out outdoors. Looking at their menu online, I think they've raised the prices. When I went, the lobster roll was $15. The bread was delicious--toasted, thick, and buttery--but the lobster could've been better I think. They were served in large chunks, and cold, mixed with some celery. Although the chunks made me feel like I got my money's worth, I've had lobster rolls where the meat was shredded and mixed with mayo, and I prefer those. The clam chowder was yummy, as I would expect since that's their namesake. The bay fries were just very seasoned and salty, not something I would get again. Overall the food was decent, but I'm glad I had already tried it by the time SJ Eats rolled around. I don't envy the mass of people that waited over 2 hrs in line for this truck, only to be told at the end that they had run out of everything. read more
Okay, the lunch-truck was in town. Time to grub! The site has a SMALL pic of the calamari. So, I told my coworker, $8 for a small calamari. "you kidding me, I pass". Until he came back with a LARGE TO-GO TRAY of calamari. So, I changed my mind and hit it up. Here's what I grubbed on: Baja Fish Tacos $5.00 Authentic "Baja" style fish tacos, hand-battered and fried, with cabbage and Sam's special sauce wrapped in a delicious warm corn tortilla -The sweet mango made this the best fish taco I've ever had in a long time! I recommend you try this! Sam's Famous Maine Lobster Roll $15.00 Delicious Maine lobster lightly tossed in warmed butter on a toasted bun. -Nice buttery toasted bun that is. I'm not a lobster fan, but it was really good with big pieces. I guess that's the price you pay! Overall, I liked it and would try it again. Definitely get the Shrimp Po'boy! It looked delicious. I just hope next time they don't run out of calamari. If you're wondering why only 3.5 stars... Call me cheap, but I just don't like their prices. read more
We had heard great things about the Chowermobile, so we hit them up when the truck was close to us. On our visit, it was parked near The Academy of Sciences. This was my first time trying a lobster roll, so not sure how it compares to the real deal in New England. There was definitely an abundance of lobster, but it lacked flavor and the roll was very soggy. If this is what a lobster roll is all about, then I'm not a fan. However, the fish and chips were better. The battered fish was nice and crispy and delicious when dipped in the tartar sauce. I wouldn't go out of my way to try this place again, but I would try it again if it happened to be around the corner. read more

They were parked nearby pumpkin patches and I thought why not try their lobster roll. Price is decent to me compared to Bay Area pricing. Portion is fine but the lobster was way over cooked. I don't know if they precook their lobster meat and throw it into the butter rolls or what. But it was rubbery and not fresh. They only had coleslaw as a side which was boring. Definitely can improve. Roll was tasty & not burnt so that's a plus. read more

Sam's Chowdermobile is the food truck for Sam's Chowder House in HMB. We had their food in San Francisco's Golden Gate park, very close to the de Young museum. Line was long, but they were efficient. DH thought the best item was their lobster roll (regular size $17.75). Large, delicious chunks of warm lobster smothered in butter, with tiny bits of celery to provide crunch. Truly yummy. The soft bread was great too, except I thought they went overboard on the butter. The thing was dripping butter on the tray! Eat it fast or it will get cold in the chilly SF weather! It comes with a small container of coleslaw - onion forward, crunchy, very creamy, but not tangy enough. Fried calamari ($8.75) is excellent here, even better than at the restaurant. I think it's because you get them straight out of the fryer. They're hot and super crispy. The dipping sauces are delicious...one is a cocktail sauce and the other is a tartar sauce. Clam chowder ($5.50) is thinner than the stuff from cans. :) It is a white, New England style chowder with clean flavors, not smoky like the ones we've tried from Seattle. There are little pieces of bacon in there. It seemed too salty after a while. They get bonus points for large clam pieces. There are also potatoes, which were well cooked. Overall, one of the best food trucks we've experienced (and we've tried a lot!). read more
This my second Saturday in a row that I take a drive down our California coast to enjoy this delicious lobster roll. It is so good and they give you a lot of lobster, I had it from Sam's chowder house restaurant before but the truck is so more convenient right now during quarantine. The fried calamari is also good with the cocktail sauce. So go ahead and enjoy ur drive down the coast and enjoy. read more
We spotted the chowder truck from the top floor of the de Young, and we're like, "we gotta go there pronto!!" There is nothing better after a day of fine art appreciation than to treat yourself to some chowdah! The only thing keeping me from 5 stars, is dude was out of white clam chowder!!! So we got the red, which was good but a little too peppery for my dad and Tom. $5.00 bucks for a cup, comes with oyster crackers. But what was more delicious than you would ever imagine, was the shrimp po'boy sandwich. Oh my goodness, lightly battered, freshly fried shrimps spilling out of the bun. I don't know what kind of bun it was, but it was awesome. Their remoulade sauce was perfect, not too spicy like Lucille's, lettuce, tomato, soooo good! I was supposed to be sharing the sandwich with Tom and had to stop myself from wolfing down the whole thing. I should have just got my own - it was only $6.40!!! I finally had the chance to try Sam's after following them on Facebook and Twitter the last year... I got there around 11:45 and there was already a line...not too bad though. 5 people ahead of me and ordering was fairly quick. The wait was about 8-9 minutes for an order of fish n chips and clam chowder. The fish was flaky and fresh. The 2 filets were pretty big...very generous with the portions. Unfortunately, I did find two small bones in my fish near the sides :( The tartar sauce was a bit bland. For $9 it was a good deal. There was a ton of seasoned fries under the fish...again very generous. The fries were quite tasty with just the right amount of spice. I ordered the white New England-style clam chowder. For $5 the little togo bowl seemed a bit small. It wasn't as creamy as you'd expect. In fact, a bit on the watery side. There were quite a few clams/potatoes but again...it was really missing the creamy-ness you expect from clam chowder. Would I go back...yes for the fish, no for the clam chowder..or maybe i'll try the lobster roll next time... read more
The food truck was stopped at Golden Gate park. I saw the signs "Best Lobster Roll by TODAY", etc. All that advertising made me curious so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. So glad I did. It was the BEST lobster sandwich I had ever had in my life!! OMG!! Super yummy!! I got the shortie roll, it's the smaller version of the original lobster roll. When I got it, it was overloaded with HUGE lobster pieces, celery, and tons of flavor. I was amazed at the lobster pieces. I could see the meat from the lobster's claw in its original form. So worth the money! At first I was a little hesistant to pay like 11 or 13 dollars for a dinky sandwich, but it was worth it. It came open faced on a piece of heavenly buttered bread. It was like a baguette. The bread was overly buttered and soft so it went really well with the lobster. I could break the bread off with a fork easily. It was so mind boggling good that I wish I ordered a second one, or at least the regular size one. I will be chasing this truck down the next time I'm in the area! read more
I went to Sam's Chowdermobile after getting some culture at the de Young Museum. I went to the cafe, and there was nothing that looked appetizing. I was going to walk to Haight Street, but I'm so glad I ran into this food truck. Their clam chowder is light, with bits of bacon for a little smoke flavor. And I also got their french fries. Even though you get alot, I thought it was a bit overpriced. Regardless, I highly recommend the clam chowder. Fresh tasting ingredients and served just the way I like it; HOT!! Ordered the shrimp wrap, fried Calamari the bomb and Clam Chowder very good. Had bacon but it wasn't over powering but it did add a smokey flavor in which my taste buds loved!! It was so yummy I forgot the pic, sorry folks you will just need to try as you head into Half Moon Bay. Enjoy!. read more

They were supposed to be here, and I assumed that meant ready to serve food, from 11 AM to 12 PM. They were parked with their sign out but at 11 they said they wouldn't be ready for 10 minutes, at 11:10 they said another 5-7 minutes; No food came out of that truck till 11:25. I don't know what kind of flexible schedules they think people have but they should make an effort to be ready when they say they will be or at least be honest about how late they are going to be. As for the food I was surprised at the prices posted, considerably lower than listed on their website. I was just going to get the clam chowder but for $10 decided I couldn't pass up a lobster roll and decided to get both for $15. I couldn't believe how small the lobster roll was, two and a half bites and it was done. The last time I saw one it was about three times the size and I thought it was still small for a sandwich but this one was the smallest sandwich I've ever seen. It was tasty for the two minutes it took to eat but in no conceivable way it was worth $10. I suggest they make an honest lobster roll and charge what they need to, I felt tricked. I expected the chowder to be good since that is their specialty but it was kind of bland, a little watery, and just above room temperature. The website advertises 16 ounce servings but this wasn't close to that, maybe half. Quite honestly taste wise it wasn't any better than Progresso. I realize these are high-end ingredients but $15 is an expensive lunch for me, especially when it comes off of a truck, and I expected more food. read more

Menu - New England Clam Chowder - little neck clams, yukon gold potatoes, bacon, and cream. - $5 Lobster roll with butter, celery on a toasted bun - $10 Baja stuffed fried fish taco - $5 Fish & Chips - $9 The cup o' chowder was just 2.5 stars, meh to ok. It was a little bit too watery, little bit too much celery and onion with 1 clam scrap. My portion was more like a sip and wasn't even warm. Sam's Chowdermobile comes to our work at least three times a year during the Winter season! Our Property Manager makes sure every tenant in the building receives an email about Sam's coming to our parking lot to serve some deliciousness usually around 11:30 am. My coworkers are always the first ones in line BEFORE they are open for service, why? Because duh you have to beat the crowd and make sure you make people jealous as you walk by them with my yummy Lobster Rolls :D I always get the Lobster Rolls because I'm just in love with it. Every bite just takes me to heaven. They put a good amount of meat which I really like and I get a side of clam chowder with it. I can't wait until they come to my work again and just devour some Lobster Rolls. Thinking about this right now just makes me hungry :D read more
