Great presentation and good price! The service is 10/10 as always :) Their duck curry is my favorite. The portion is even more than what I expected, compared with price in DC area. read more

Even though they got my order wrong a couple times, my Khao Soi was AMAZING as usual (as was the rest of the food). They were super busy and well in over their heads, but still managed to make my birthday special. I also love how pretty and well lit the interior of the restaurant is. read more

I am from Los Angeles California and came to Washington DC and we wanted Thai food this place is amazing food tasted so good and well made the lunch special beyond good and such an incredible portion staff was friendly and nice....i give this place a 10/10 if I come back to Washington DC definitely coming back to eat here read more

Ordered takeout on a cold rainy day. The order was ready in about 20 minutes and pick-up was super smooth. I really appreciate how they packaged the Khao Soi, soup, noodles, and fried noodles separately so nothing got soggy. The soup base was amazing - rich coconutty flavor, slightly sweet, very fragrant - everything you'd want to warm up your body. It came with two chicken legs, which were cooked to perfection and super tender. The only thing I was missing was some pickled collard greens to add some tang and even more texture. The papaya salad was also delicious but nothing too special. Really happy to have a really good, authentic-tasting Thai food in this area that does Khao Soi well. The interior decor also looks very cute so looking forward to dining in some time in the future. read more

Could not recommend this place more. I've been here three times in the last two weeks and I still cannot get enough of it. My favorite by far is the pad thai and jumbo crabmeat fried rice. Everything is so fresh and flavorful - you really can't go wrong with the food. Thai tea is a classic. The Neglectful Uncle is so unique - a traditional Thai dessert that blends coconut ice cream with sweet potato, peanut, and bread. Hurry and try this place before it blows up! read more

Let me just say: this restaurant is absolutely delicious... So much so, I've eaten there twice within a 24 hour period lol! Why four stars and not five, you may ask? The drinks...The drinks! The Mocktail menu reads so well and flavorful that it was hard to choose; however, when we did, the drinks were bland :( We even gave it a second chance and it was still bland! For example: I ordered a lychee storm mixed drink (lychee, peach, lemon, soda) and all I can taste was watered down soda water- thanks to the ice. No fruit profile stood out whatsoever (and yes, I stirred my drink well). It hurt my heart to type this, but once they master the drink menu as they have the food menu, there's NO stopping this restaurant :) read more

If you are craving Thai food go here! This was honestly so good and it really hit the spot. We got the khao soi and panang tofu curry. This was perfect for two people. I'm definitely coming back to try more food and get the mango sticky rice! read more

I would like to give this place 5 stars because the food was excellent. However, the online menu has the same picture of Mango Sticky Rice under "Sticky Rice" and "Mango Sticky Rice". This, I received just sticky rice when I thought I was ordering Mango Sticky Rice***Please update your online menu to reflect just Sticky Rice under the menu item Sticky Rice. Thank you read more

Above average Thai, but certainly not the best in DC nor the best I've ever had. It was decent. I wouldn't make a special trip like we did. Plenty of other new Thai places to try out. Yes the service was pleasant, but the room and atmosphere is hole in the wall. Our food came out lightening fast, which was a red flag. I would have gladly waited longer for more attention to detail or higher quality. There were not many tables. I would rather make a special trip to our favorite Thai place or try a new one. Not recommended. read more

We've been here many times now and consider it the best Thai food in DC, with great service to match. The menu is unique with many items you won't find at other Thai restaurants in DC, and the food is authentic and delicious. They also have a fantastic, vibrant and cozy interior. This place changed the game for us after having been frustrated by mediocre, expensive Thai for much of the 10 years we've lived in DC. Here's hoping they thrive in their Dupont perch for many years to come! read more

Great varied food and lovely gracious staff. Dine in and takeout. Dine in is bright and clean, not large.

AMAZING. Everything we ordered was on point. The owner even came outside to greet us and thank us for visiting her restaurant. Highly recommend the salmon curry and Tom Ka soup. For desserts don't forget to order the Mango Sticky Rice. read more

Would give the food more of a 3.5 high key. The red curry was yummy but the pad see ew did not have as much flavor as i've had at other places. the service was very good, friendly staff and food came out quick. very nice decorations inside, the window seat looks cool. read more

Decent food and good service. crabmeat fried rice. Crabmeat quality can be improved and the wok fire isn't intense enough. Wings were heavily sauced and HEAVILY coated that I ended up ate more coating than wings. Maybe someone like it but not me read more

I visited Sampannee as a treat after concluding my ministry for the day. The Ambiance is really nice, you can take a selfie in front of their signage! The staff was attentive and helpful with the menu. I got the Pad Thai Tom Yum, didn't care much for the thick noodles, however, it was still very good. Next time I'll just get the regular noodles. The Pina Colada was excellent as well. Try it, you won't be disappointed. read more

I ordered take out from Sampannee as I was attending a conference across the street. I was greeted warmly upon arrival and the staff worked to finalize my order. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. The other guests looked happy and appeared to enjoy their meals. My lunch was Phad See Ew with tofu and vegetables. The flavor was very good, the noodles were perfect and the vegetables were crunchy. I was too full to enjoy my mango sticky rice while it was warm but is was good nonetheless. I agree that this is a very good local restaurant. read more

We very much looked forward to the food here - comfort style, low key, great reviews. The restaurant is not accessible, however, and my husband - with either cane or all-terrain walker, would not navigate. Please make others who require accommodation aware that entering the restaurant requires climbing stairs from the sidewalk, then other stairs and level-changes inside the establishment. read more

I've been to many Thai food places around Dupont. This week, I tried three different places. This is the best one so far! I'd say other places have great video ads that attracted me to visit, but I ended up disappointed with the food and service. I'm glad I decided to try Sampannee based on real reviews. The hero dishes are the Pad Thai and Duck Curry. Simple dishes, but they hit differently. I also loved the presentation of the whole Gai Yang (grilled chicken). It's big enough for two people to share. Great job by the servers as well. I went there with my family, and they helped take care of the kids. When my kids made a mess, they came to assist and cleaned up for us. I'm not a regular reviewer, but I just wanted to express my gratitude. My family and I really appreciated what they did. I can tell they truly love what they do. Thank you for your hospitality! read more

At DC for a convention. Went to eat at this gem on Friday night with a couple of friends and immensely enjoyed it. We ordered from chef's menu, crab fried rice, pad thai and salad. They are superb and the service is friendly and efficient. The dessert is divine ! We ordered toasted bread with caramel and sticky rice. We truly enjoyed it and went back with our group the following day. Everyone enjoyed the food. This time we had curry, basil chicken , fried fish etc. i will recommend this place. read more

What an amazing place! Great food, cute ambience and awesome service. Jungle curry was spicy but our waitress made it mild for us which was perfect. Best Pad Thai I've had in a long time. Happy hour is a must! $6 beers and $6 appetizers. We will be back! read more

Superrrr cute decor and dishes. Really enjoyed the ambience. The food was amazing, definitely will be back.

This place was so cute and I am very much going to miss it. I came across this hidden gem on my trip to D. C. and THEY DID NOT disappoint. The thai rice with beef was absolutely delicious AND the thai tea is a must. a little sweet but definitely worth it. I came here twice while on my trip and had left overs so the food lasted me like 3/4 days. Being from LA i know good thai food and this was good. Especially considering i felt like there wasn't much options for food until i found this place. i could eat here everyday! read more

Visited this place on a recent trip to DC. First impressions upon entering the restaurant were great, I absolutely loved the atmosphere. Super festive and authentic decorations all over the place. Our server was friendly and got out our orders in pretty promptly time. I got the jungle curry (was super intrigued by the name) and although I enjoyed it in the end, I was hoping for some more oomph out of it, the taste was a little bland altogether. Thankfully a member at our table is Thai and was able to talk with the staff to get the "extra good stuff" that you can use to top your dish, so I was able to spice my stuff and enjoyed the experience more. Overall, I'd consider coming back to this place if I were to order something different but otherwise I enjoyed my time there! read more

the food came out so fast- 5-10 minutes top. we asked for the spiciest food they had and our waitress delivered. definitely teary eye level of spice. i got the pineapple curry rice and loved it. the only thing that was just okay was the papaya salad, but we enjoyed everything else so much it didn't matter. read more
