My family and I have been coming here for years now. Greg is such a good guy and his side-kick is super cute Samnzar Smoke Shack produces some of the best salmon we've ever had. I highly recommend his smoked fish to anyone in the Sonoma County area. You won't better smoked salmon in the north bay. He sets the bar for what it means to taste quality.

It's inviting vs the stuffy atmosphere some places have. BABAGANOUSH PITA we got it for the kiddo expecting it to be run of the mill stuff you get. But the babaganoush had the extreme rich flavors of smoked eggplant and felt like almost half an eggplant went in there. Not diluted with tahini, garlic, just pure flavors of eggplant with tanginess of sumac. LITTLE GEM SALAD WITH RAINBOW TROUT was hearty, leafy and very refreshing. The pickled celery was the surprise. HAMACHI CRUDO - beautifully assembled with thoughtfulness, light, refreshing. A bunch of flavor bombs in there so each bite is an adventure. Basil making it refreshing, earthy crunch from hazelnut, sharpness from green onion, sweet tart kiwis. I think a bit of citrus would make this a superstar. Mandolin shaved limes perhaps? GRILLED MAITAKE MUSHROOMS - ok I think this was the chefs most technically impressive dish, with an exercise in playing with bitter profiles and turning it into a master piece. Grilled maitake gets the char from the grill is the first flavor layer, it's woken up by the wild thyme from the zatar. Next the Japanese turnips bring the second dimension with earthy beautiful bitter notes on a bed of a creamy tahini based sauce. It's finished with fresh parsley to bring a fresh element to it. Great stuff. Could raddichio be added to make this more challenging? I saw those crunchy POTATOES and I got them even after eating the meal lol. Do yourself a favor and just get them - they're hot, crunchy and perfect to pair with the vegetables. Finally we got their chocolate mousse with bruleéd bananas sorry couldn't take a picture before it was all gone. Great way to wrap. The staff were all super friendly and helped with picking things from the menu! I got the mystery glass of wine and they had made a fun game out of it. The Beaujolais was great too. Overall when you're surrounded by these amazing farms, vineyards and ocean - no better way than to bring them together - kudos to the creators of the Redwood for making this place with intentionality. I wanted to get the squash, duck pâté, spring pea salad, tinned fish items as well, I guess for next time!

Although the flavor profile on the salmon with citrus and saffron was not to my taste it was expertly prepared. All that said we received some of the most neglectful service I have ever had from a very nice server, who for no obvious reason left us alone for most of the meal. It got busier as our time stretched on, but it wasn't slammed and there was plenty of staff. We ordered plenty of food including two bottles of wine. We had to completely finish all of our appetizers before being asked about mains and we sat with empty glasses for ~20 minutes (possibly more) before we flagged someone down to get the second bottle; a bottle we left half drunk because it stretched our evening so long. I might give this place another try but honestly it was one of the most drawn out anticlimactic $400+ birthday celebrations (without desert) I have ever had. We could have done better at home for less.

Ali, our server and part-owner was so nice and extremely accommodating. We could not eat everything on the menu and will return to try more things! My husband liked the Greek wine and I asked if they had a Turkish yogurt drink (yran) and Ali went back to the kitchen and provided this off-the-menu beverage! For dessert I asked if they had my favorite Turkish dessert, kunife, and Ali went back to the kitchen from where it magically appeared The chef is Turkish and the other co-owner is Greek. Unfortunately, my hostess didn't bring me a wine list but said she will grab one. Despite the mixed up, she was really sweet and complimented me on my wine selection. The lamb shank was fork tender and cooked perfectly with a nice gravy over mash potato. If I'm ever back in Cotati, I will go back to try out some of their skewers and hummus.

We ordered the Coastal Tacos (rock cod) and Fried Chicken Sandwich. At first we were concerned that it might not be enough for us, but when the food came, we realized our worries were for naught. Both the tacos and the sandwich were quite large and also quite messy, but if a taco or fried chicken sandwich is not a little messy, it's probably not very good! The decor retains the flavor of the building's roots. I seem to recall reading that it was a stage coach stop (or railroad stop?) during an earlier life, which is completely believable since it was built in 1864. Rustic, but with some modern touches. We plan to stay at the Valley Ford Hotel again, and when we do, we'll wander down the stairs to Rocker's Roadhouse for dinner. I hope there's oyster Po' Boys on the menu by then!

Somewhere along the line yelp reviews for Rocker Oysterfeller in Valley Ford became yelp reviews for Rocker's Roadhouse prompting this update. Ages ago I happily awarded 5-stars to Rocker Oysterfeller but when I came to Rocker's Roadhouse for lunch on a recent Monday afternoon things were decidedly not 5-star. The bar area that one enters first had no patrons despite a table of dirty dishes remaining. When we announced we'd like to stay for lunch we were asked to wait while a table in the dining room was cleared. That's exactly what was cleared: one table in the dining room. There were two other tables of customers in the dining room and now a single clean table. Every other customer-free table in that room was stacked with dirty dishes left by previous customers. This wasn't just unappetizing. It was disgusting and we opted not to stay for lunch. I'm hoping this was some sort of aberrant situation as opposed to standard operating procedure. C'mon Rocker's Roadhouse, get your act together.

We ordered 3/4 of the menu items and were super impressed with every item from presentation to layered flavors. Sometimes Thai restaurants are a bit boring and westernized but the flavor here were bold and nicely nuanced. For those sensitive to spice, they also offer to make some dishes half spice. The most impressive dish was the rock fish - it is a full size fish with herb and lime garnishes; the fish was fresh and delicious. My favorite dish was actually the tofu salad - the tofu is actually silken soft on the inside as promised - and surrounded by lots of fresh herbs and citrus. The drunken noodles also stood out as non-typical with excellent wok heat to give it a deep umami flavor. Service was casual and non-intrusive but also very friendly and attentive. I appreciated the proactive extra napkins for our dish and was impressed by how they handled a huge pain in the butt customer sitting next to us who literally complained about every single dish. They patiently took her complaints and offered her alternatives while I admittedly wondered why the customer even bothered to eat a Thai restaurant at all, I felt bad for the staff but they handled it so professionally. There is plenty of dedicated parking in their shared lot. This is definitely a favorite restaurant I will return to next time I'm in town.

I started with the Thai iced tea with coconut cream and cardamom. I loved that it wasn't overly sweet or super milky like some Thai teas can be. The cardamom came through nicely, and the coconut flavor worked really well with it. We started with the vegetable dumplings, which were not what I expected but in the best way. They were almost like a deconstructed dumpling with noodle sheets and spring onions that you wrapped in lettuce leaves. The chili oil was really rich and added a lot of flavor to each bite. We also shared the pad Thai. It also came deconstructed with fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, and other seasonings on the side so you could mix everything to your liking. It was a fun presentation but I wasn't quite sure how much of each ingredient to add. Overall, I enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere.

Ambience is ok, they have some Peruvian decor. Nice tables and silverware and plates. They have a good sized menu. Food was the surprise. I expected it to be different but it was quite tasty. We shared the empanadas 1 each - beef, chicken, pork. We also had the sweet plantains and the mango habanero ceviche. The empanadas were a little on the small side but they were delicious. The mango habanero ceviche was really just cooked shrimp with a mango habanero sauce and pickled red onions. There was also a dried plantain chip on top. Though I was expecting a more traditional ceviche, it was really tasty. The sweet plantains were excellent, just what you expect with more onions and a sour cream type sauce. The service was quick but not intrusive. Would definitely come back.
