We were lured in by the mention of "famous grilled cheese" on their sign, and it turned out to be the highlight of our day! So sorry that I failed to take a photo of it--it had crispy cheese flakes where it had splodged out between the slices!!!

5 Stars - A Hidden Gem on the CA Cheese Trail! Who knew there was a California Cheese Trail? After a visit to the Charles Schulz Museum, my husband and I were looking for something fun and different to do when we stumbled upon WM Cheesemakers--what an incredible find! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. We happened to visit during their Sweetheart Special, which included an apple and cheese salad, tomato soup, and a grilled cheese sandwich. Wow--every bite was perfection! The flavors were so well-balanced, and the quality of the cheese really stood out. To top it all off, we got to meet the owner, who was not only approachable and kind but also incredibly passionate about what they do. Such a gracious host! We'll absolutely be back, and now we can't wait to explore more stops on the Cheese Trail--WM Cheesemakers has set the bar high!

Came here during the power outage, they are so nice and the food was so good got a grilled cheese and tomato soup to share, this is my new fav spot. You can also see them making cheese in the other room! Thanks for the great service.

Follow the cheese. The beauty of this cheese house is that they make cheese in house! Wm. Cofield Cheesemakers is known for their complex, Stilton-inspired Bodega Blue and the lush, cloth-bound aged McKinley Cheddar. We love it all! They also serve fabulous cheeseboards complimented with selections from The Fatted Calf in Napa and Journeyman in Healdsburg. Love the locals supporting locals.

We love this spot! It's tucked away in The Barlow, but it's worth a visit. They have a small but lovely selection of cheeses (from CA, the Midwest, and other areas), but we always focus on the cheeses they make themselves. You can see the other rooms where they process and age the cheeses from the retail space! They always have some great samples out too, which helps us pick which to get. Their curds are great too! Prices are standard for locally made cheese. We haven't dabbled yet, but it's rumored that they make a mean grilled cheese... Stop by and support this local cheesemaker!

While on the Cheese Crawl during the Cheese festival we stopped by to sample the two cheeses they were offering and we ended up getting a few kinds of cheese to taste later. Everything we tried was delicious specially the Stilton. The shop has glass windows and you can see the cheese maker working on the wheels. Great customer service. Friendly team.

Such a cute shop! They have samples of cheese and the owner is lovely! My mom and I shared the meat and cheese for two and it was scrumptious. The bread was soft and paired well with all the cheese, meats and the jam.

While looking for a cheese shop that offered cheese tastings on Yelp, I stumbled upon this gem of a place. Wm Cofield Cheesemakers is located within The Barlow so there's plenty of parking and there are signs to guide you to the right place. The shop itself is pretty small with a few tables inside and outside. When we walked in, we were greeted and told to try a few cheeses located in their wooden box shelf. I came with two others and opted for the charcuterie board for two. Although it was meant for two, I feel like four people could enjoy it! The lady working there was friendly and knowledgeable on the cheeses. She even asked us if there were specific cheeses we wanted to try or didn't like for the board. Our favorite was the one made from sheep's milk. They had a selection of local cheeses and their own cheeses. This is a nice place to enjoy some leisure time or to gather items for a party at home. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area. I heard they make a really good grilled cheese so I'll have to try that next!

Keep your eyes open for this spot! Unless you spot the bright yellow band with CHEESE in it, then you may miss it tucked down a walkway. When we walked in, we were instantly greeted by Keith! The man behind the cheese! He told us all about how this place happened. He traveled to the UK and fell in love with their cheese. Brought it back, and now we get to enjoy it! I don't think I've ever had UK inspired cheese before, so this was a treat. We got to try their cheddar and aged cheddar. The aged cheddar was hands down our favorite! The aging process gave it a deeper flavor and a firmer texture. I also picked up some cheese curds I am excited to fry up! They also have some other local creameries cheeses in their case if you don't want to travel but want to try the cheese of the area.

Look for the CHEESE sign down the alley.

This tiny cheese shop is tucked away in The Barlow. Look for the large CHEESE sign! "Proper British cheese for Sonoma County and the rest of the world!" Cheese is my love language so I had to stop! Masks are required so samples aren't currently an option. That's fine. It's handmade cheese. Trust me. It's GOOD! Go there and buy it. Just know that quality handmade cheese is priced accordingly. I purchased the 12-month aged cheddar and the cheese curds. Both were devoured by two of us within 24 hours! I'll buy both again but I look forward to trying the 24-month aged cheddar and the blue cheese next time! They also sell Journeyman salumi from here in Healdsburg. Be sure to look through the window at all of their beautiful cheese wheels. Dreamy! Cheese, yes please!

We stopped by this place while strolling around the shops in The Barlow. We are so glad that we stumbled upon this place! This place has a large sign that reads CHEESE written on the side of the building so you will know when you have found it! This shop had glass windows so you can see the process of making cheese as well as the drying racks where they age the cheese. The customer service was excellent! The person at the shop helping us was friendly and very knowledgeable! There is a large selection of different cheeses to choose from. I got the McKinley cheddar that was aged for 24 months. You can get as little of 1/4 lb. and it's a delicious cheese to have with crackers and wine. I love supporting local companies and will definitely be back to try out other cheeses!

Freestone Artisan Cheese is on your left as you are going towards Occidental on Bohemian Hwy immediately after you pass Freestone Hotel. It kind of hides back there in the corner where Freestone Road curves. I have no clue how long they have been on that location, but the first time I noticed them was our last trip to Freestone. Freestone Artisan Cheese is nice little shop with many varieties of delicious cheeses of course, but they sell more than just cheese. They sell excellent olive oil, Vinegar, Pasta, jams, preserves and more. On this stop we tried and purchased a couple of cheeses and olive oil that we enjoyed with our bread from Wild Flour Breas bakery. The young lady who was behind the counter was very helpful in explaining the different varieties of cheese that were there for us to try. You can skip the tour and just hung with the baby goats the whole time if you want! Also can come early or stay late depending on when if there's another tour that day. I get enough time with the baby goats - and I loooove baby goats so that's saying something! Bring a meal if you want to eat and hangout at their picnic tables. I've gotten to milk the goats a few times, feed the adults, be there for a goat birth (just happened while on the tour!), and have all the baby goat snuggles and silliness. Love the family farm, love the folks who run the baby goat tours/visits. Also a cute town to go into after for food, beverage, also wine tastings nearby. I recommend a second set of clothes to change into after in case you get dirty (goats are relatively clean, but they're goats so not like indoor pets. I let the baby goats climb all over me.)

It led us down a dirt path wide enough for only one car to pass and we came to a very old barn at the end with a super tiny building where the cheese was stored and a small counter where the goods were sold! A lady who speaks Spanish and only enough English to sell a chunk of cheese arrived on the scene to give us samples of 3, 9 and 14 month aged cheese. Each cheese was progressively more firm the longer it was aged. Wowww! I didn't even know what I had been missing out on until now. All these years, I have missed out on fresh cheese made straight from a milked cow on a farm! Who knew there was such a difference?? Our very favorite was the 3 month old cheese. So creamy, fresh, soft and perfect in every way. Best cheese I've ever had, even better cheese than we we've had in Wisconsin. I don't know if I can ever appreciate supermarket cheese again. Cheese was $10/lb. We initially bought half a pound, then we brought it to the museum and nearly finished the whole chunk before we were craving for more and decided to go back for another pound! It was that good! The detour added another 45 mins of traffic to our journey but we felt it was worth it. If you're ever in the area, stop by to grab a pound or more of cheese! The only problem we had was that we didn't know how to store it. We refrigerated it and I'm not sure if we were supposed to do that bc the cheese ended up getting pretty hard :(. But we couldn't ask how to store it properly and for how long because the lady didn't speak enough English.
