Went to Sammy's a few times during the holidays. The bartender service was sub-par and I'm being generous. Asking for anything beyond popping the top off a beer bottle was like teaching astrophysics to 3rd graders. The men's bathroom had a foul smell that burned your nose hairs from 30 feet away. They actually have hundreds of flies to guard the men's bathroom to keep anyone from stealing the filth. The pool tables are obviously rentals and are in terrible condition as expected. You have to literally beat four quarters into the pool table to get the balls to come out. Not that it matters because the table is warped and every cue stick is bent or broken. I guess they are keeping with the 'we are a dump' theme. The good news is that there are other options less than 1 mile away after you leave your half empty drink and flee Sammy's for better environment and service. read more

I recently visited Sammy's Gay Bar, and I must say that my experience was highly disappointing. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a rude bartender who seemed disinterested and unwelcoming. Their lack of professionalism and customer service skills set a negative tone for the entire evening. Furthermore, the condition of the facilities was deplorable. The bathroom was not only smelly but also incredibly dirty. It was clear that the cleanliness standards were not being upheld, which is unacceptable for any establishment, let alone a place that serves beverages. The atmosphere in Sammy's Gay Bar was far from enjoyable. Instead of being a safe and inclusive space, I witnessed two fights break out throughout the night. The lack of security or intervention by the staff was concerning and made me feel unsafe. It is crucial for a bar to prioritize the safety and well-being of its patrons. To make matters worse, there was clear evidence of drug use within the premises. This behavior is not only illegal but also poses a significant risk to the overall experience of customers. It's disappointing to see a lack of enforcement and control over such activities, which further diminishes the reputation of Sammy's Gay Bar. Overall, my visit to Sammy's Gay Bar was nothing short of a disappointment. The combination of a rude bartender, a smelly and dirty bathroom, fights, and drug use created an unpleasant and unsafe environment. Definitely a hidden gem in the area as you would never know from the outside just how welcoming and laidback this place really is, but as the old saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover... Sammy's is the kind of place you go to when you just want to get a nice cold beer after a hard days work, no questions asked, no pretenses, get away from reality for a bit, maybe make a new friend or two or just disappear into the background, either way, come as you are, as you won't find any judgment here. Think Cheers, Paddy's, Mode's Tavern or even my personal favorite the one and only Regal Beagle, and that is what you get with Sammy's. No drama, no frills, no nonsense. What more can you want? Well, food would be nice, but if they had that, I would probably sleep there and put them in my will, so probably water that they don't have food. Next time you are in the area, why not stop in for a beer or two or maybe ask them to make you something original, as you just might get sucked if you aren't careful, and that wouldn't be a bad thing. read more

Service was terrible. I counted eight patrons in the bar and the bartender ignored me a full 12 minutes while she scratched an itch between her legs and played on her phone. To add insult to injury the drink was stale because the soda gun had obviously not been flushed in a decade or two. It was pure nastiness! Needless to say I did not finish the drink. I did not tip. This is a private bar. They do allow well behaved visitors. I enjoyed playing a couple of games on the billiards.

Definitely a dive bar, but fun if you go with a group. They had live music last night - this unassuming little lady belting out some rock tunes (like Tom Petty) - you go girl! The bartenders were busier than a one-legged man in a fanny-kicking contest, but they were on top of things and provided great service- hope everyone tips them well! I like to visit different bars and once you find a good one you tend to come back. I was first introduced to Sammy's by a friend who watched sports games and invited me to tag along. It is somewhat dark when you go in their that you might walk bye the pool tables. As you approach the bar, you are greeted with a smile and on the days I visit the face is of an attractive lady. You can get infatuated with their charm or caught up in their looks but having "God in your heart" is more powerful than any of those. My mom always said "Actions speak louder than words." As you watch how she interacts with others you realize that she is genuine and really understands the importance of spending time with each of the customers that come to bar. Now some can see that as leading you on and perhaps bartenders need to be more careful in their interactions to make sure they protect themselves. If you do it right you can be the Tom Cruise of bartenders. Sammy's has a great selection of drinks and all the bartenders seem to know their stuff. You can get a well drink for between $6 & $7. I recommend the Tarheel Blue. They also have this neat point system which allows you to get a free drink. It takes a while but it sure is sweet when your bartender says you owe "Nothing". Dam right! Then you go back to zero and start again. Maybe someday I will earn enough "points" to get coffee or lunch with a bartender. Some other features are a golf video game that everyone loves to play and a basketball game "a hot shot" that you play at arcades. If your lucky the bartenders will play with you although their not quite good or I'm just that good. (Joking) You can also watch any sport from Nascar to Football on the multiple big screen high def TV's. I can't believe that I called Nascar a sport. As an added bonus they have a patio where you can drink outside. Last it is a Cheer's bar and you can tell the regulars because the bartenders already have their drinks ready for them before they reach the bar. The people I have met have all been pleasant and could see myself going their more if I lived closer. So grab a drink, pick out a song on their juke box and live that abundant life that God gives each of us. read more

Basically anything goes and is proclaimed to be the bar "...where the rumors begin." I just wanted to play pool and have a drink with my wife and the bartenders are not friendly at all. The regular customers do not like outsiders and let you know it. How does one review Sammy's? On the surface it may not seem like much. It's a small bar, tucked behind the Carolina Place Mall with free pool and karaoke on Tuesday nights. Once you go inside it not only looks 3 times bigger, but feels exponentially more like home than a bar. This is the quintessential "Cheers" bar for many South Charlotte and Pineville residents. Not everybody at Sammy's is a regular, but most are. Still if you are new you will be welcomed and offered a drink by one of the fun and friendly staff that everyone knows by name. During football season Sammy's is packed on Sundays and all year Friday and Saturday nights find the parking lot full. Sammy's is a small bar, maybe 10 people there on a busy night. Not that this is a bad thing but it is a very calm place to get a drink and play pool on their 2 FREE pool tables. They do have a music player and a few arcade type games. Overall the bar has a good selection but does not offer any food. Sammy's is on my "OKAY" list. read more

Walked in the door expecting a nice fun atmosphere. Was met with hostility the moment we got in. Friend went to use the bathroom before settling at the bar. A Dunk woman (she carried herself like a manager, called other people by name to intimidate us). Told us they didn't have a public bathroom. We politely explained that we planned to buy a few drinks and have a good time. She responded with "Bye, Thank you". We were then rushed out the door by a gentleman.
