Johnny Dollars is a great dive bar! There is a pool table and there is beer, there is makers mark. There is a TV for games and sometimes stuff happens like performances or themes. Once on instagram they posted a crazy flier for a we were with the same guy party and I was sad I was there the week before and not the week of, just because I wanted to see the fictional train wreck. People are nice and I have eaten the peanuts and lived. read more

Tried to go here with some friends on a Tuesday, bouncer looked at my friend's South Carolina ID, told us all to get out claiming it was fake. It is not fake, so we said we would call the police because we need the ID back and he was refusing to return it. He walked away scanned it at the bar, came back and admitted that yes, it is real but that he still could not let us in. Fair enough, they have a right to refuse service. Asked for ID back, bouncer accused me of touching him and wanting to fight. That also was not true and a separate patron nearby even said "he isn't touching you, or raising his voice". Bouncer tried goading me into doing something stupid a couple more times then finally relented and gave the ID back. Wish I could give a more fair review to this place, but when you have a bouncer who doesn't know how to do his job and starts freaking out on patrons for no reason it's rather difficult to ever get an idea about the joint. read more

What a neat little neighborhood dive bar discovery in the SouthEnd! Came as part of a game night meetup and met such a great group of people! Per the other reviews, I can see how it may seem that this place is clique-ish and closed off as this is definitely a bar where the regulars rule. But, everyone was so welcoming and nice and Kara, the bartender was such an absolute sweetheart! It is a total no-frills dive bar, so if ur looking for something other than a place that has barflys and regulars, no-frills drink menu w/Bud & Yuengling on tap, this will not be your bar, and that's totally OK. Because of NC's weird liquor laws, you do have to become a member or sign in as a guest of another member. Either way, it is a super painless, easy process that requires all of 2mins & your driver license. They had great specials the Thursday night I went where I had 4 beers & a shot w/tip for $20! This is one of MY FAVORITE places to go in Charlotte because it's freaking awesome. The Regulars (I am one), the staff (best/funniest bartenders in Charlotte), the prices for drinks (can't be them and it's a wide array), and the venue (free pool, nice big, back patio, live music). It is a Dive bar in all of the highest culminating factors but the vibe is made by us, the patrons, and everyone that goes there. It's an eclectic group of people but I would not have it any other way. Oh yeah, they have LIVE MUSIC as well. I think JD's is one of CLT's hidden gems. Need I say more?! The lady friend and I recently made the trip to Charlotte and saw the sites. Due to a number of COVID-related cancellations, I had enough Southwest Air credits to pay for 2 round trip tickets from STL to Charlotte. Overall it was a great time with some highs and lows. Low Light...We cheaped-out and got a hotel by the airport. It was garbage. It shared a parking lot with a strip club, and we saw a prostitute walking around that looked like John Witherspoon in a tight red dress. If we cum back to town we will stay in a better area. High Light...Johnny Dollars. We were at another bar that was filled with a bunch of horribly attractive 21-25 year old go-hards that were running around like crazy people so I googled "Best Dive Bar in Charlotte" and found this place. It's a no frills dive bar that's relatively clean with a solid juke box that serves cheap booze. That's what we were looking for. They are members only, but as long as you seem ok, they'll let you drink. They eventually made us members. In hindsight, they may have let us in because we are both large humans that look like they can drink for days and never run/slow walk on a tab. The patio was super chill and it looked like they were still building on it. I got bit up by mosquitos, but it's July in the south. I only used the crapper for #1's so I couldnt tell you if it's good for a road deuce. Overall it was a great bar and we got drunk there twice. I also dominated the crane machine. I would return. Side note: The puritanical liquor license rules in that city are crazy. You guys have given the local government way too much control. read more

I always appreciate a good dive and this place certainly qualifies. I found the staff and regulars to be welcoming and I've really enjoyed myself the few times I've been here. Cheap beer and free pool makes for a good night out to me. If that sounds like your scene then I definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

place is amazing but the new blonde bartender with tattoos is the rudest person I've ever met in my life. I don't ever make reviews and she's bad enough to where i'm on here making this. If I could rate this place 0 stars I would. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Yes it's a nice little low key spot but the service is appalling. Me and my guy friend were in the area kind you we are already not familiar with this area. We first walk in it's literally 5 people if that sitting around at bar and a lady bartender. Wasn't welcoming at all, we waited maybe 10 mins for the bartender to finish her conversation with other customers. She took our order then gave us our shots, and continued with her conversation with other customers which is cool. But we noticed that the shot glass was broken so we waited to get her attention but she's not paying attention still bc she's still conversating with other customers. So by this time I just tell him let's take the shot will get her attention for the next shot it's already almost 2! This was just supposed to be a quick little stop for a cool vibe and some shots! So we take the shots and wait for her to come she literally doesn't look or come our way for maybe 10-15 mins. She's still talking to customers. Mind you it's only 5 ppl here at the time including us. Worst customer service ever. There was no "are y'all doing alright" "need another shot" nothing! So she finally comes back our way and that's only bc she is closing somebody else's tab, and we were sitting in front of cash register or whatever so she didn't have a choice but to acknowledge us now. So remember when I said the glass was broke? I tell her "we want two more shots and can you give me another shot glass bc this one is broken" this lady proceeded to tell me "well when I gave it to you it wasn't broken" EXCUSE ME?!?!???? And you can imagine how the rest of that conversation went I even asked her to look at the cameras and then apologize for trying to ACCUSE me. She didn't ofc! For one if that thick a** shot glass would have dropped and broke EVERYBODY IN THERE WOULD HAVE HEARD IT. It was disgusting how she acted. We left. And will never return and I will continue to let everybody know how awful my experience here was. read more

It's 2018 and racism is still ALIVE here. It's. A private club that doesn't allow you in unless you know someone, says it on the door but not online- I inform her you should probably let the public know through your online marketing so that other potential customers are aware and she tells me that they have no control over google marketing.... Lie#1, you can control your own online presence. She allowed us in for one drink only and then informed us we had to leave after the drink since we weren't guests or members. Understood- no one was in bar, we are two white and one black in the bar(3 total)- the service we received came off so hostile because we were with a black guy. The reality of it was we have never encountered this type of behavior in a business in charlotte and it unbelievable to see that something like this still exists or is allowed to continue. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS ON A TUESDAY, take some business courses and understand the financial aspect, you can't make money without customers. Goodluck, you racist pieces of shit. read more

Nice little pool hall. This is a private club where you have to be a member or invited by a member to enter. I was invited by a member. I really enjoyed the friendly environment. There were plenty of things to do in this cozy little joint. There were pool tables, corn hole boards, and a ping pong table among other games at this place. There was only one bartender working (plenty of staff for the small bar) her name was Stephanie. She was very polite and seemed to very efficient. Nobody waited for drinks that night. She was also very pleasant. I would have given this cool little place 5 stars if I did not witness one disturbing thing. There was a short, fat, and obnoxious little woman who I believe went by the name of Sheba in the bar that night. This woman had to be way over 40 years old and was as intoxicated as a 21 year old sorority groupie. She stepped behind the bar and assaulted the bartender by smacking her on the butt. This was obviously an unwelcomed gesture considering it really upset the bartender. This little troll named Sheba assaulted that bartender that night. It is unfortunate that there was not security there to throw her out. I had a wonderful time at this cool place that night. Unfortunately this disgusting little woman put a blemish on that night. The owners should not tolerate this type of behavior from patrons. I hope for the sake of the bartender that this train wreck of a woman is banned for life. She is lucky that there was no police involvement that night as I truly believe that pretty young bartender was assaulted by that disgusting little woman. read more
