The first home was taken down to the studs for a completely redone infrastructure, roof, HVAC system, new windows and doors, an exterior facelift, new lighting throughout, a new kitchen, 2 renovated bathrooms, a newly designed interior courtyard and fireplace, and the addition of a powder bath. The exterior project included all new hardscaping, a new pool and hot tub, new landscaping and lighting in the front and back yards, and a large outdoor kitchen. I'm happy to report that both projects turned out beautifully. I greatly appreciated Lakewood's attention to detail to our design, their very well executed craftsmanship, and the problem solving mentality they brought to the table. They repaired this but then decided not to tell my HOA about a small crack at the top of the retaining wall and instead painted the whole top of the retaining wall with a latex material. The retaining wall is stucco and should have been first brought to the attention of the HOA since it was outside of the SOW and then it should have been repaired with a stucco patch not this non stucco laytex material. The company first denied even painting the retaining wall with anything Then after my managment company called them to Inquire about it, the owner came and said they did it and that they won't be coming back at all to remove and fix with the proper material. We then had to have Protech ( our maint company) come and do the repairs. This is so unprofessional of California Construction Concepts to handle this matter in such a way. It cost more to have Protech come and fix what California Construction Concepts did. WOULD BEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!

Thomas Sommer is a great contractor and a genuinely fantastic human being…read more My parents spent a large portion of their savings to purchase a home in San Diego to be closer to family. Soon after they moved to their new home which was built only 3 years before they purchased it, it became clear there was a signings that construction defect on the second floor with a large leak into the ceiling which was due to incorrect installation of a sliding door. This was a known defect which had not been transparently disclosed by the prior owner. We attempted to contact the contractor who had built the home without success. After months of meeting with other contractors to get this door replaced and reinstalled, we found Sommer Construction. Thomas met with us and was incredibly empathetic - he insisted that rather than repair it himself - he would help us contact the home builder and facilitate the repair being done under warranty. When we first heard this idea, we didn't really want to go down this path because we didn't think there was any way this could work. Given the long ordeal, we simply wanted to pay for it and have it repaired without the hassle of arguing and fighting with someone (especially given that Covid was ongoing). After speaking to Tom and considering how expensive the repair was going to be, we thought why not give it a chance. Tom was convinced that this repair should be repaired under warranty by the person who built the home. It seemed to good to be true that someone would go through all of this hassle and go out of their way to help us get this done. This just speaks to the kind of person Thomas is, he tracked down the original builder and held him responsible for the repair. He then guided us through the negotiations and repairs with the original contractor - taking time out of his busy schedule all because he is a genuinely good and empathetic human being. It is so refreshing to meet someone like this and we cannot express how grateful we are to Thomas Sommer. He gives contractors a good name. If you read the other reviews you will quickly see that this is just the way that Thomas is and how he runs his company. The more we got to know Thomas we found that he is simply a man of principle first and foremost. If we ever need any project done, he is the first person we would call for sure! Cannot recommend him highly enough.

There's only one person in the house and with the pandemic, nobody else has been here. There isn't much traffic in that room. I contacted Thomas on 1/11/21. I asked about a warranty and explained about the grout and that the floor was creaking. He was a bit defensive - he'd done the job right - but said to call him back in a week and we'd look into it. I called again on 1/20/21 as requested; no response. I called again 1/28; no response. Ghosting your clients when there is an issue with your work is really problematic. Even if the warranty is over, it's best to find out what has happened. For this, I'm going to hire someone else to regrout and I think the problem should be solved - I've since realized the creaking is coming only where the tiles are missing grout so it should be an easy fix. That said, you should think twice about using Sommer Construction; what if the situation is bigger? And, if it is, you can always claim against his Contractors bond with the State of CA to get resolution if he ghosts you.

The installer that came to my house unfortunately didn't notice that the floor sheet was defective before the installation and law down of the sheet; it had a few cuts on it. A few months down the road when I discovered the defect and I reported it to Sitton Flooring, because the sales agent had said that the floor had a 10-year warranty off any defects. At first, whomever I spoke with at Sitton refused to replace the floor or issue a prorate refund. Another installer that came to do an inspection on the problem said that the installer that had installed my floor was no longer working for the company (6 months after the installation) and that he should have NOT installed this floor because of the defects. The installer had left some corners lose, but the 2nd installer fixed them during the inspection. Down the road after a few messages were exchanged with the company about the defective vinyl floor, the owner/president of the company himself sent me a message and indicated that he would issue me a refund on the floor because of the situation, wanting to show that customers come first. I recommend you use Sitton Flooring, but when they install your floor FULLY INSPECT THE JOB before the installers leave and take pictures of the installation; so that there are no buts or ifs.

This is my following up comment on Scott Dickerhoof from Pacific Blu and his team's excellent work…read moreon the renovation of our kitchen and the followup work he had done for us after the renovation. To summarize what I wrote in the first note: "Scott and his team are high professional team who delivered what they promised in the following 5 ways. 1. The price offered was transparent, and no additional charges at the end of the project. Any additional work to be done was discussed and agreed before taking place; 2. The schedule was well planned and nicely carried out. There was only one delay caused by a window supplier. When we talked with our neighbors about the schedule and timing, most of them were surprised that the schedule was carried out in a timely way as was; 3. Those who worked on site were friendly and professional. They were willing to take extra steps to ensure quality got its priority. The ventilator installed on top of the range were sealed exactly as we expected. It seemed that they had paid attention to maintain good quality; 4. Coordination with subcontractors was very smooth. Other than the window supplier, we had not experienced any undue delay. For example, we had to have a large and extremely heavy countertop installed in our kitchen. It finally took 8 people to get it laid down in good order. Thanks to Scott who assigned extra 2 people to help get the work done. Very impressive; 5. Last but not least, it was our feelings that the supervision work conducted by Scott's team was "just there whenever needed." It gave us the comfort that we were able to leave the house to them for a week while we visited our children out of town. About two years passed, there are some new developments that I want to add below: 1. After the renovation, we called Scott's team a couple of times for some extra minor fixes. The response was very positive and timely. It seemed that Scott did put efforts on aftermarket services. We felt the fees charged were reasonable. 2. We have built sufficient confidence with Scott and his team after the kitchen renovation. We have retained them to do house keeping maintenance work regularly which was carried out smoothly and timely. 3. It's good to have a reliable person nearby to take care of these matters and it seemed that we will keep working with Scott for long. By Jim Chen
