I tried Sama Sama at the Poke Festival. The truck caught my attention because the design looked very clean and instagramable. It felt thoughtfully done, which made me excited to try the drinks. The staff member taking orders was friendly, and service was smooth. I ordered a milk tea with boba and a mango drink with boba for my toddler. The mango drink came out purple, which was confusing. I even went back to double-check that it wasn't someone else's order. Call me boring but I was expecting the usual yellow-orange color. The drinks were also quite sweet, and I don't remember they ask me about sugar level. The boba was okay. Nothing terrible, but not the freshest. Found out about The Pearl at Kalauao when I was looking at Sama Sama's Instagram page. It was such an awesome event so I'm glad Sama Sama brought us out there. I went straight to their truck first and the menu was simple to read. Service was especially great here and appreciated the time they took to go over the menu with us! Loved their Filipino focused drinks, and I just had to try their seasonal patis (fish sauce) caramel! We have a version of this drink at home in coffee form but I was excited to try the Filipino version. It was delicious and I liked it paired with the flan topping. It wasn't overly sweet either! I've seen this business at almost every food truck event I've been to but just never tried it. I finally got the chance when they were at the most recent food truck event for HGEA which is near my job downtown. I did visit them towards the ending of the event so unfortunately by the time I placed my order they had run out of boba. I ordered a small original milk tea with leche flan which is not something I would normally order but decided to give it chance since I wanted a topping. I don't know if it was the leche flan or the actual milk tea but this was probably one of the best drinks I've had in a while. It was not overly sweet and was the perfect cold treat on a warm day. I've seen the Sama Sama truck at many events I've been too, and have always wanted to try them out! I'm so glad I finally did, at the summer event at Calvery Chapel Aiea. I love that you can pretty much customize your entire drink! I ordered a 24oz Buko Pandan Milk Tea with Boba & Halo halo inside. Not only did it treat amazing, but it was sooo refreshing in such a hot day! There was a small line when I went to order, but the person working the window was super friendly and helpful, there were a few people asking questions. Attended a food truck event at Koa Ridge. I got their Halo Halo and it was very disappointing. Especially since they're "Filipino inspired". 95% of the halo halo was ice, with a splash of milk. So much love for Sama Sama! Whenever I go to LCC I usually make a stop at Sama Sama for their Ube Latte. The coffee tastes really good and the ube flavor is also on point. I heard so many good things about this place so I was excited to try it. They were at the recent What the Truck Event in Waikele. I didn't know what to order so I asked about their most popular drinks. The cashier pointed out that the items with the stars beside it are their most popular, and so I decided upon the ube. I got the 24oz Ube with Extra Boba. I was disappointed by the drink because it tasted like watery milk with boba. The ube flavor did not come through at all, it tasted very watered down, and it wasn't what I was expecting it to be. Firstly, my love for boba came from a veeery young age. I grew up in the Philippines where every morning (like at the crack of dawn) a man would come down our streets yelling "taaahhhoooOOOOOO!" to let everyone know that fresh soy and boba (the small tapioca kine) dessert cups were ready to be devoured by yours truly. So in 2021, when I saw a boba stall called "Sama Sama Tea" run by Filipinos and selling drinks like calamansi and leche flan boba, you best bet I was EXCITED. The very first drink I had was their UBE BOBA and it was super sarap (delicious)! Just recently I introduced my parents to their boba and they were just as smitten as I was to see that they had flavors from our motherland! We tried their LECHE FLAN and CALAMANSI in TAHO style. It might sound weird to you to have it that way, but it was soooo yummy! Since their pop-up tent days, they've built up quite the following and now they've got a whole boba-mobile! What I appreciate most about Sama Sama Tea (aside from their delicious drinks) is their sense of kapwa and pagmamahal--meaning their customer service is amazing! If they've made your drink and it's not to your liking you can just let them know and they'll fix it for you! In conclusion: The staff are kind, they really make sure that you are completely satisfied, and their drinks are tamang timpla (made correctly)! I checked out Sama Sama at the Ono Grindz and Makeke at Kapolei Commons Sunday market and ordered the buko pandan milk tea (this flavor is made with the green tea base whereas with other flavors you can choose what tea base you want between milk tea, green tea, butterfly pea flower tea, and sampaguita). For anyone unfamiliar with Filipino flavors/ingredients, buko is coconut and pandan is a plant with an earthy vanilla flavor. For toppings I ordered the cheese foam and boba. The coconut and pandan flavors were very tasty and full and the tea quality was very good. Boba wasn't too flavorful but had good qq texture. Cheese foam was solid too. I would definitely order again and recommend checking out this Filipino milk tea truck! read more

This review is for the food truck at a What the Truck event at Pearl City High School. We were so excited to know that we could find some halo halo at this event as we were hearing amongst another group that there was some halo halo around. However, that wasn't the case. This review is mainly for the service we received. Anyway, we tried to order Halo Halo and the response we got from the cashier was "uh. I don't think we can make it for you." We were a little flustered as to what that meant. We took it as if maybe they had run out of Halo halo? If that's the case she could have just said that. We ended up ordering the Taho. I'll give the Taho a 6/10. It was ok. I know they were trying to include their own twist to it by adding boba however, it would been better without the boba. Also, it was already cold when we got it. Which is another thing. They had two workers out front and another in the back. Our order of 2 Taho's took almost 15 minutes. Anyone who's ever ate Taho knows this would take less than a minute to put together as it is only made of syrup and tofu. Apparently they had a large order of Halo Halo's before us (maybe 5 or 6?) We don't understand how the other two workers couldn't help. Anyways, I guess that is more of an internal issue. Lastly, this kind put the icing to the cake. We saw that they had cup holders so asked if we could have one so we could carry the rest of our food. Oh were we appalled by their response..... "oh sorry we ran out." It was only 1 hr into the even and they already ran out of cup holders? Hmm, how convenient. Customer service is really lacking for this place. They really need to step it up. Would I try this place again, most likely no. I'm afraid they might just run out of straws or utensils. read more

After finding Sama Sama at local food festivals, we were happy to see that they were one of the few boba businesses that cater a boba bar at events! A lot of other places I inquired with could just deliver pre-made drinks rather than make their own, which is not quite the same. I inquired with them on Instagram to get started, and then the rest was done via email. I will say that this was the most stressful part. As a growing small business I know they've got a lot going on, but the delay in response took a while, and with me planning a party myself, it was stressful not to hear back in a timely manner. Luckily, it all worked out. On the day of, they come promptly with two workers and their supplies. We provided a table for them to set up and they took care of the rest! We arranged for four drink flavors - ube milk tea, brown sugar milk tea, calamansi tea drink, and peach mango tea drink - all with the option to add boba. Let me say - the calamansi was a hit! It was one of my favorite drinks when I would visit their food truck, so I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. Overall, everything turned out great. From their service at the party to their set up and break down time, to their great flavors, I would love to cater them again. They are creative in the sense that they are incorporating boba/ tapioca tea with popular flavors in Filipino culture. Their small business is also based out of Waipahu, a town that is near and dear to my heart. Thank you, Sama Sama for elevating our boba-themed baby shower. This is for the what the truck event in Waikele it was my first time here I ordered the Buko pandan dessert. Mind you, I'm a Big dessert person and my weakness is sweets but lemme tell you, this straight up tasted like thick HEAVY condensed milk all throughout. I thought this was gonna be a delightful pandan topping with bottom half shave ice dessert similar to how halo halo is made. It was inedible to me and WAY TOO THICK AND SWEET, Only a teaspoon of shaved ice in the center??? Weird as hell, like I said I like sweet but this had NO balance at all. I felt like I was swallowing straight up pandan flavored condensed milk. Extremely disappointed as a dessert person. This dessert could've had so much potential. Not to mention it was overfilled and impractical to eat with a spoon when I opened the lid it was thick and soupy just dripping down my hands super inconvenient making my hands all sticky. Like a thick nightmare of a smoothie, it's not even labeled as a smoothie so what even is it? I even I tried to use my friends boba straw to drink some of it so it wouldn't fall all over my hands even more but it was TOO THICK to slurp with a straw even with a boba straw, like damn! Only the milk tea my friend ordered was fine to them and sort of lacked sweetness ironically if anything in my opinion. Anyways, NOT worth the calories. Ruined my night. read more
