I contacted the store to try to resolve the issue, but they refused to provide any type of refund or stand behind the products they sold me. Considering how highly priced many of the items in this store are, I find it unacceptable that a customer can spend their money there, discover there is a serious issue with the authenticity of the merchandise, and then be left with no resolution. At this point, I will be disputing the charge with my bank. The entire situation has been handled very unprofessionally, and based on my experience, I would strongly recommend verifying the authenticity of anything you purchase here before spending your money.

HobbyTown is located in the long strip center adjacent to the former Weekends Only (and soon to be Vasa Fitness). It's definitely not the most active strip center, however, it seems like a good location for this type of business. HobbyTown is a franchised retail toy/hobby store with over 100 locations nationwide including three in Indiana (Granger and Evansville also have one). It's based in Nebraska. HobbyTown has a bit of a retro vibe, craft store meets hardware store meets toys like RC vehicles, RC aircraft, models, toys, games, learning toys, arts and crafts, and trains. I would probably describe myself as a wannabe hobbyist. I found myself completely captivated by the trains, RC options, and some of the models. I loved models as a kid - I was lousy at putting them together, but I really enjoyed it. They also had more board games than I expected. Parking here is pretty easy. It's not the most accessible building, however, it's not far from Concentra with a great curb cut. The store itself was pretty easy to get around, though aisles are occasionally a bit crowded. I had no difficulty and found the place friendly and helpful. The prices are pretty consistent with other hobby/toy shops. Yes, you can spend a lot here. For sure. You can also find affordable hobby options and gift options. A five-star might be a tad generous, however, I really liked the place and loved the variety of toys and hobbies. This place works great for me because it's really close to my house and it's locally owned. That way I don't have to drive a long way to find what I need for my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The Hero's Emporium has always had a great selection of brushes, paints, and miniatures that I have come to rely heavily upon as a Dungeon Master. I am always able to find the miniatures that I am looking for whether that be a female gnome paladin or several packages of gnolls that I can paint and throw at my party. All the miniatures are very reasonably priced too, so I can get even larger miniatures like a storm giant for only around $15. For as long as miniatures take me to paint, this is well worth the money. I also want to mention that they offer a decent selction of dice sets to choose from, which is important for any D&D campaign, especially when your dice are fickle. I also love that they offer both old and new sourcebooks for D&D as well as official Nolzurs paint sets, and Icons of the Realms. This gives me a large pool to choose what will be most exciting for my party. Finally I wanted to mention that this business has also done tabletop nights. Although I personally have not attended one of those events, I support the space this business is building for the tabletop community. The staff has also always been very welcoming and helpful, making sure that I am finding everything that I am searching for. I am also occasionally able to find expansion packs for a bit more obscure card game called Smash Up here, which is delightful considering that it's so hard to find in just a regular store like Target. I had to rearrange my vacation and rearrange a hunt so that I could be here to accept the package. I find out they gave me somebody else's tracking number and when I contacted them about it their response was it was an honest mistake. This is about as unprofessional as you can get. Providing someone with the correct tracking number after a large purchase is not rocket science. Time for me to move onto another distributor that can handle shipping without huge mistakes and take responsibly for the mistakes they do make.

My…read moregood buddy is a bit of a low-key musical virtuoso (the guy can play six instruments!), and I got to see him play three of the six instruments on the Books & Brews stage. It's such an intimate performance area, and the sound and lighting are great. They have open mic nights here every week, and I can see myself coming back in the future to listen to more music. This is the "mothership" B&B -- the OG. I've been to some of the other Books & Brews around Indy before they closed, and this one definitely feels like an original. It's very ... lived in, let's say. The layout makes no sense, and there's a lot of stuff everywhere. But it's a cozy space, and lots of people, including families with young kids, were there when I visited. I like that there are "third places" like this that adults and kids can visit to to play games and eat and have a beer. (The adults have a beer! Sorry, kids.) The food at any Books & Brews has never been my favorite. In fact, I usually avoid it altogether and just get beer. But this time, my drink of choice was kombucha, and I got an "Oliver Twist," which is a soft pretzel with beer cheese. That reminds me: The food and beverages on their menu have silly little literary names. You have to know something about me: When I see silly little names on menus for ordinary food items, a switch turns on inside me and I become a defiant brat. I will never play along and say "The Girl with the Chicken Nuggie Tattoo" instead of "chicken nuggets" or "A Tale of Two Piggies" instead of "the ham and bacon sandwich." Nope. It's not happening. And when I ordered the "soft pretzel" instead of the "Oliver Twist," they understood me just fine. There is a huge wall of shelves filled with board games that you can grab and play at your table. There had to have been at least 50 or 60 different games. They also have lots of new board games for sale, as well as things like Magic the Gathering decks, Pokemon cards, Funko and geeky swag. Oh! And, of course, they have lots and lots of books, new and used. I couldn't tell if they were arranged with any rhyme or reason. So if you're looking for something specific, you might have better luck finding it elsewhere. But if you're looking to let destiny choose your next read, you might want to pop into Books & Brews and let the B&B powers-that-be guide you to the perfect book.

Pre-COVID, Game Time was the premier MTG destination on the north side of Indianapolis. Double digit attendance weekly across multiple formats, Regional Qualifier events for the Pro Tour, the kind of competitive scene that made this place feel less like a local game store and more like a Jedi Temple for Magic players. I played in those events. I remember what this place was capable of when it was operating at full power. I came in on a Saturday for the MTG Hobbit prerelease event, which drew eight players. Eight. The play area that used to hum with the energy of a full Rebel fleet now has half its tables cordoned off indefinitely, like a wing of the Temple that nobody talks about anymore. It is noticeable, and it is a little melancholy if you were there for the golden era. That said, the eight of us who showed up had a genuinely good time. The event ran smoothly, the staff kept things moving, and cracking Hobbit themed prerelease packs at a table with fellow players is still one of the better ways to spend a Saturday regardless of headcount. The store itself remains worth visiting for TCG singles and sealed product. The collection is large, well organized, and if you are hunting a specific Magic card for any format, this is a reliable place to find it. The rewards program is solid and worth using if you are a regular. The staff is nice, knowledgeable, and treats you like someone who belongs there. Four stars for a store that was once the Death Star of competitive MTG in Indianapolis and is now rebuilding. The foundation is still good. Here is hoping the play area opens back up and the Rebel alliance returns in full.

The shop is in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The owner was surprised at how much I had, but showed genuine interest. He took the engine and put it in the track. It ran backwards, but not forward. He said it likely needed oiled. I felt like he was fair in what he offered me for everything. It's such a niche collectible and I hope it goes to someone who really loves trains. This shop had everything you could have imagined so I would check it out if you need anything train related!
