Out-of-towner who wanted to give this rock shop some love upon my recent visit to Indianapolis. I'm…read morefrom the west coast, where it's hard to find a bona fide rock and mineral shop that isn't primarily a new age spirituality shop. Nothing against that if that's you're thing, but it usually means they only carry your typical calcites and rose quartz, usually polished. I wanted the raw, rare stuff. Well, if you want old-school and no-frills, Jox Rox is exactly that. It looks abandoned from the outside and is dirty inside. It's the smell of nature, baby! Dozens of drawers to thumb through and find specimens - check out the malawi agates! Some real gems in the cabinets as well. Picked up myself a gorgeous large vanadinite crystal and a terminated watermelon tourmaline that would have easily run me twice as much back home.

Today, they are among the most knowledgable of Indiana geology in the state. Their shop is not fancy, but is packed with fossils, minerals, jewelry findings, supplies, books and much, much more. You can find specimens from all over the world. Prices are fair and Phil will take the time to educate you on just about any rock topic. The shop is also a good place to learn about rock shows and local clubs. Phil is a founding member of the Indiana Society of Paleontology. If you're into rocks, you must stop in to Jox Rocks. It's right next to the Dairy Queen on Franklin Road in a converted convenience store.

I showed up today after a very long drive already in a mediocre mood. I went up to the front desk to ask about a Facebook Marketplace agreement I had made for a sofa set and the price, only to find out there had been some miscommunication. At first I honestly thought I might have been scammed, which instantly put me in a terrible mood. I definitely huffed around and complained about how far I had driven while trying to sort it out. Long story short...the Facebook Marketplace dealer was not a scam at all. We had simply misunderstood which pieces we were talking about. Fast forward to the end of the visit: three employees (two gentlemen and a woman / I'm sad I didn't get their names) helped me load everything and went the extra mile in every way. They were incredibly kind to me... even after my less-than-great attitude earlier. I tipped them and apologized for being grumpy, but I have to say I left there genuinely believing in people again. They handled the situation with so much patience and kindness. Very cool experience. I'll absolutely be back (with a better attitude!) and I'll be paying that kindness forward. Thank you to those three employees....even helped load my trailer. Seriously nice. Like....extra! Thank yoU!

Prices felt reasonable and fair; I never felt like I was getting taken. The staff were helpful and friendly when I asked questions. Came here to buy stuff for my son's senior night, particularly for balloons. I checked out the…read moreballoon section by the checkout counter, and they had a large foil basketball balloon which was $12. I found a clearance section in the back of the store. I love clearance so I started rummaging through it. I felt really lucky because I found a smaller foil basketball balloon for $2. I also found a spa headband for $1, these are so useful when I'm washing my face so I couldn't pass it up. I was at the self checkout ringing my items up, and I had asked the worker if I could bring the balloons back to get aired up. She informed me if I took the balloons out of the store and brought them back it was an extra charge- $10 for the large foil balloon and $7 for the smaller foil balloon. That's extremely expensive! I'm so thankful I asked because she told me that I could finish my transaction and then she could make an order for me to pick up my balloons another day, thankfully I didn't need them the same day and I'm thankful she provided me with that information as I would have not been happy being charged that fee. I came back the day I said I would to pick up my order, and I also needed some latex balloons as well. Every color I needed in singles was available except black. I had to purchase a whole pack of black balloons, and I had them air 2 of them up. The pack of black latex balloons was $2.99, and to air each black latex balloon was $1.99. I was only charged the purchase price of the other single latex balloons, those didn't have a fee to get aired up. It was very inconvenient that they didn't have any single black latex balloons and more expensive. It's probably better to plan ahead with balloons and know exactly what you are paying for. The man working the counter aired up the latex balloons I requested, but it did take some time and another worker had to help check other people out who did not want to use the self check out.

I was hesitant to run in and grab items and was fully prepared to stroll out if it was too packed but I felt really comfortable with the way things were set up. It turns out crafters don't show up in hoards on Friday nights at Michaels I was on a mission to grab some Easter decor and quickly found what I was looking for- garland, silks, and egg dying kits at the front of the store. You'll also find fabrics, wreaths, kids craft projects, lawn decor, hobby kits and so on. Again, not the newest Michaels but it got the job done.
