This is a cute little restaurant on the warf. Has a great rooftop and very nice bartenders. We ate here a couple of times on our stay at Camden. First was lunch on the rooftop with drinks. I was hoping to try their deviled eggs, but they are only served in the restaurant after 4:00 pm. We both had the lobster rolls. Ample amount of lobster. Crispy buttery "toast". In my personal opinion, I wish there was a little more mayo. I like mine to be a little more "wet" and it really pulls all the flavors. We also had dinner. I was able to try the deviled eggs. They are gooood. Perfectly boiled and the filling was piped very nicely. Firm and good flavors. We did add the caviar. Caviar was good, nice amount of salty kick. My husband was not as impressed with the caviar. Said it was better without. He ordered the Roasted Halibut (asparagus, roasted fingerlings, cherry tomato, lemon caper beerre blanc.) He said it was cook perfectly great blending flavors. Only compliant, it was a small piece of fish. I orders the Fra Diavolo (maine lobster, linguine, calabrian chile) Wow. This was soo delicious. Lobster in anything is a must. The linguine was perfect. The sauce. Of the sauce was light and flavorful. I loved that it had a nice heat and spice but it was not overwhelming. We had a lovely view of the water as we sipped our cocktails - a dirty martini and a cucumber drink that were both very good. The halibut was super delish with a crispy sear and very yummy beurre blanc sauce. The asparagus was nicely grilled and so tasty. We also got the citrus carrots that were perfectly cooked. Our waitress was good but a little too quick to clear the table at times. Had to guard my drink that still had a sip left lest she whisk it away. Came by the rooftop prior to, and through happy hour. It was not very busy yet and we were able to have our choice of seats. There is some seating under a fabric roof providing some shade. The oyster shooters were super fun and mussels tasty (though oysters/mussels were on the small side). I tried the trout dip as well, and may have ordered if we stayed longer. I enjoyed my cucumber cocktail. The server didn't seem to know much about happy hour upon asking. Happy hour here means everything is 10% off (no special menu). Prices are a little high here, but you're paying a premium for the location, view and atmosphere. read more

Not a good choice if you have a group! They will only seat you on the patio. We had several families meeting in Camden and thought looking over the water would be entertaining for the kids, unfortunately it is a bar no kids menu! We all received our food but were short one meal 20 minutes later it arrived with no apologies. Also they sat over half of our table in the sun. The food was good. read more

The food was SPECTACULAR! Deviled eggs were amazing it was my first time trying caviar and it was a delicious salty topping to my eggs! The steak was nicely cooked and juicy! The clams were very big and the sauce they were in was packed with flavor! The fish was nice and the veggies on the side were so good it was the best asparagus we've ever had! The service was good although they were out of a couple dishes we wanted, I don't blame them because we did come at 8:30 and they close at 9:00, so we had to compromise and try some new dishes but we were very pleased with them! Came here with a reservation (recommended) on a weeknight, and it was pretty busy. We got some deviled eggs with caviar and I ordered the scallops. The eggs were fantastic, and as someone who very rarely indulges in caviar, I enjoyed the flavor it added. The scallops were delicious as well, perfectly cooked with the right amount of sweetness from the fruit. Service was very polite and helpful, and the place is thoughtfully decorated. My first experience at Salt Wharf was certainly a good one! First, the juxtaposition of architecture between the older part of Camden, and this newly developed area is very innovative. The design of the space is very cool with glass garage doors being opened up when the weather is good. The bar was small, but great looking, and definitely a cool place to sit if I was there alone. The food was quite good, and some dishes had a twist. We tasted a variety of menu items including the oysters with Black lime mignonette, the deviled eggs with caviar and the local mussels. All were excellent. Dinner was steak frites with one of the better chimmichuri sauces that I have ever eaten for sure. The lobster roll had some pickled vegetables in it including carrots, which seemed out of place, but I was told it was good. They were fine. I ordered blackened fish sandwich. Could not find the fish under all the mayonnaise and all very greasy. $23. My friend had smashed burger, same disappointment.$23. I have never felt like a restaurant was purposely giving terrible service until The Salt Wharf did exactly that. Ceviche was wonderful. Everything else was ZERO STARS. Restaurant was mostly empty. Our Server was completely indifferent and dismissive. The wait for a menu, and to order, and to be served was inexcusable. The server did not have the guts to bring us the check -- she made the hostess bring it. My husband and I made reservations for dinner here for his birthday which is on 7/4. The food was amazing. The chef graciously accommodated some food sensitivities and adjusted the dish I wanted to have. Incredible. Every aspect of this meal and experience in this restaurant was top notch. We went up to the rooftop bar after dinner to have another drink and watch fireworks and the staff up there were incredible as well. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We had a lovely opening day dinner here last week, with good food and a really lovely environment looking out over the harbor. We've been here several times before. Service was a bit slow, but it was their first night so it was not an issue. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I do have one grip, namely the menu, where they pair wines with food items. The wines they choose are outrageous - pairing a hamburger with a $200 bottle? And pairing other items with $100 and $140 bottles? i guess they think this brings in the fellas with the 100 foot yachts, but it sure turns me off. The ambiance is the reason to go to this place. It is wonderfully bright and great people/boat watching. The service is also fantastic- I was offered a sample of the rose I was ordering without asking. I really enjoyed the deviled eggs with pickled veg and the homemade chips and dip. My entree was disappointing (the halibut dish but they are substituting tuna for halibut right now) and not up to par with the other dishes and didn't taste like what it cost. Went here for dinner on a whim while visiting from Texas. Only seats available were at the bar so we took them... and boy was it worth it!! The bar tenders were absolutely phenomenal along with all the food!! The oysters were out of this world good! Briny start with a nice meaty finish! Was a little curious about the black lime mignonette that went with them, but this was definitely a delicious change and nice addition! The mussels were also out of this world! Done deliciously with a light white wine sauce... Our main course was the Lobster risotto!! OMG! This was heavenly! I cannot imagine a more earthy herby deliciousness than this! It was done beautifully! And the lobster was so sweet and delicate! To top it off we were able to watch the fireworks for the Windjammer festival! Let us stipulate that I'm a hard grader when it comes to fine dining. I like my cocktail shaken not stirred, my food inventive and savory and my service unobtrusive yet intuitive. All this to say that I and my family enjoyed a near perfect dinner at Camden's lively Salt Wharf last week. Probably our sixth or seventh visit over the last two years, this Saturday night excursion was wonderful. Cocktails were frosty and on point. Tempting as it sounded, we passed on the hand made red or white Sangria but enjoyed a fabulous bottle of white wine from the Mt. Etna region with a crisp minerality that was, well, an example of volcanic terroir in the best possible way. Dinner of local halibut, tuna tartare, deviled eggs with caviar and a splendid salad of local greens was spot on. Even the strawberry ice cream for dessert was exceptional. High points? Friendly and helpful front of the house. The best sommelier in the Midcoast who knows what we like and always offers something special. The room is lively and full of yachty fun. Located on the gorgeous Lyman Morse Wharf on Camden's "left bank," there's easy parking and a jamming' roof bar for drinks and small bites if you're so inclined. Go there. You'll love it. read more

If I could leave a zero, I would. This has to be the worst service I have EVER received. We ordered around 7:30, nothing crazy, 2 burgers, some oysters, and a lobster roll. Around 8 someone else's food came to the table, we said it wasn't ours. By 8:15, we hadn't seen our waitress and still no food. Keep in mind, we had 2 children with us who were now waiting 45 minutes for our food. We finally flagged another waiter who told us our food was just put in and tried to blame us. Ridiculous. We paid for our drinks and left. He even said, don't worry, we won't charge you for the food. THE FOOD WE NEVER RECEIVED!!! Worst service. Please don't go. To do this to kids, even worse. Rarely do we go out to eat where we rave about the food. But here we did. The food was extremely good and very well served by our server Will, who walked us through the menu including dishes he personally liked. Great food, wine and service. I could not ask for more. My only suggestion for the restaurant is our table was right on the path where the servers took the dirty dishes to the kitchen. It has to be done obviously, but it was a bit distracting. I'd go later in the future, as the sun was coming directly at us. The window was open to a lovely breeze. Excellent cuisine - views of harbor - engaged management which results in great service. We showed up for our reservation but they had no record of it... the manager got with the Executive Chef and made it happen for us anyway despite us being a party of 8. Very pleased with how they handled things. Please note the service is not what you may find in a large city that is able to retain staff year round but if you can be okay with that (e.g. wait staff not as fast and confident) the way they manage the service (the operation and logistics) makes up for it, and most importantly the food is legitimately top class for any major city. read more
