We both opted for a taco salad one with steak and one with chicken. Both were good sized and very filling and the meats were both tender and flavorful. We were on our way to the Bonneville salt flats and didn't have time to eat in Salt Lake City before making the trip to the salt flats. Then once there - we realized there were no restaurants. So we kept driving and ran into a SUPER tiny town 10 minutes further into the highway that is literally half Utah and half Nevada. We found this place - we were not very hopeful as it did not look like a good place. But we were so hungry we decided to give it a shot. OMG!!! Salt Flats Cafe is a great little Mexican restaurant in Wendover. They have wonderful homemade food from the chips in the beginning to your entree. We drove out from filming at the Salt Flats and this was a nice surprise for lunch. Right now it's take out only and don't forget - CASH ONLY. We appreciated the tip from previous customers. I had the #1 Combo with a steak taco, 2 (cheese) enchiladas and a side of rice and refried beans. This was delicious! And get this: $6.95!! I couldn't finish, it was so much food. My husband got more of a special request: one burrito with beans, cheese and rice and then another with pork, rice, beans and cheese. Both were about $6-$7! Great food and huge portions. This place is hard to find and parking lot is not paved so hard to walk day or night. Little street passed the railroad tracks on Utah side I believe. Cheap big portions Mexican food that is pretty good when options r slim and u don't want to pay exaggerated casino cafe prices. Free chips and salsa. Drinks r huge. Always a treat when visiting Bendover, on the Utah / Nevada border! Best prices. Best Mex food. Best service on this side of the wall. I have returned a dozen times while driving cross country. Today was a special treat as the kitchen staff were singing Spanish music in the kitchen at the top of their lungs. Cash only. They usually round the cost down to lowest dollar. Love stopping here on our way home from Wendover. Their breakfast burritos made on fresh tortillas are authentic and delish. Their homemade chops and salsa are the perfect accompaniment. Salt Flats was hyped up to be a phenomenal restaurant in Wendover so we thought that we should give it a try while we're in the area. Originally, where we sat had a flickering light that was giving us the biggest headache and making it impossible to read the menu so our server super kindly allowed us to move to a different spot. The chips and salsa were interesting. I have never seen chips as dark as these ones and salsa as runny as the bowl we got. Typically salsa is chunky but this salsa was more runny than many tomato soups I've had. The chips seemed to be a bit overcooked. I chose a Dr. Pepper to drink and was pretty impressed with how large the glasses were. They were massive so there was a lot of drink in there. The menu seemed to be pretty simple; I didn't notice any crazy dishes but I liked that they had things that were familiar to us. I chose the soft taco and two enchiladas but I wanted to get beef instead of steak with my taco. A friend of mine got the same meal and our other person got steak fajitas. The food came out pretty quickly and had an awesome presentation. However, the flavoring was not there and the food tasted pretty bland. There was no seasoning on my friend's chicken enchiladas, the ground beef wasn't seasoned, and the enchilada sauce didn't have any flavor at all. The steak was pretty good and came with sautéed onions and seemed to be packed with lots of flavor. Additionally, since it was fajitas, there was things like guac and sour cream on the side to add flavors as well. The beans and rice were probably my favorite part. The beans were nice and cheesy and had a good texture to them. The service was phenomenal; the guy was very attentive to us and we enjoyed having him as our server. I loved the Salt Flats decorations in there as well, it really went with the theme. read more

Delicious! I came here because of the yelp reviews while I was staying for the night (just passing through). Visually it isn't much. It looks a bit run down on both the outside and inside, but I felt warmly welcomed the moment I entered. The staff was very friendly. Our server was upbeat and delightful. Very chill. The free tortilla chips were SUPERB. They make them in-house and it shows. Crunchy, flaky, and many have little "bubbles" in them for extra crunch texture. They also have horchata, a milky cinnamon vanilla beverage and theirs was fantastic. Food came out super fast. It was hot, presented well, and delicious. The service is great when its not busy, it takes a while for them to get to you when they ARE busy because theres so many people that go here, especially during speed week and any important events. If you cant wait don't go during those times. The food, its Mexican food i don't know how people say its bland, in my opinion it comes second to my mums cooking!! It's so delicious!! Yeah the salsa might not be for everyone because it is a bit watered down and doesn't have a lot of salt but if you add salt to it, it's good. Ive eaten the plate of carne asada its freaking delicious my husband always orders it. I love ordering the birria and pork in green chili, they have really good flavors and dont have anything missing. Mexican food is generally a bit greasy, depending on the dish so dont expect this to be anything fancy with no grease!!! The ambience is okay, i know they painted the whole place and renewed the inside but the flickering lights might be an iffy thing for me and as for the insects, theres always gonna be insects like flies flying around with the amount of people going in and out from the restaurant. People sometimes even leave the door open while waiting so :/ you cant get upset over that.
