Service was super slow. Took 15 min for someone to come over and even acknowledge us. The free chips and salsa was ok, the spicy one was weird almost peppery, the regular was fine. We loved the table side guacamole but $19 is a lot. The quesadillas was ok had alit of grease on the plate making my quesadillas mushy. The fries were ok but the side of ranch was disappointing. The tacos were small only 2 bits and u get 3 but $30 is expensive. The Coronarita was definitely small in fact all the margharita were no bigger than 16oz. Overall it's SUPER over priced and service was lacking ! Reservation is recommended. Expect to spend $100 on Mexican food. read more

Extremely slow service. I sat at my table with nothing more than water and chips and salsa for 45 minutes. Took hour and forty minutes. Just sat waiting most of the time. Had the scallops as an appetizer for $37 and they were disgustings. Rubbery and gross. Tasted off and I normally love scallops and couldn't even eat them. read more

It's been some years since I posted my first review of Poncho Willie's Cantina at the Peppermill, and I'm happy to report--it's still got it. We had the pleasure of dining here a few months back, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The service was top-notch--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It felt like they were happy to have us there, which makes all the difference. The food? Still high quality and served in hearty portions. I ordered the Macho Burrito, and let me tell you--it lives up to the name. This thing was a beast. I gave it a good effort but ended up tapping out halfway through. Took the rest home in a doggy bag and enjoyed round two the next day. Still tasted great. It's not every day you find a restaurant that maintains its standards for nearly a decade, but Poncho Willie's continues to deliver solid, satisfying meals with great service. If you're in the Peppermill and craving great food, with a delicious variety this place is still a sure bet. I am surprised that it has taken me this long to write my review of Pancho and Willie's Cantina! This Mexican restaurant and cantina is located on the west end of the Peppermill Hotel & Casino in Wendover, NV. The restaurant is clean and beautiful inside. Good, attentive service, which can be slow from time to time but only because they are so popular so the place fills up quickly, especially on busy weekends. The have excellent dishes and fantastic drinks and appetizers. We have tried their enchiladas, shrimp, burritos and a number of other items here. All have come out exactly to order, cooked well and very large portions! You will never leave here hungry! Our favorite items have to be their Molcajete which is fantastic and their cheese-stuffed, bacon wrapped shrimp. Absolutely delicious, especially with their sweet dipping sauce. Our other favorite thing is the table-side guacamole. It is made fresh, right at your table and they will add or leave out ingredients if you ask. If you are in Wendover and are craving some excellent Mexican food in a wonderful space, definitely stop by! I haven't eaten at Pancho & Willie's in three or four years simply because it's too dang expensive; we went back this week for a friend's birthday party, and nothing has changed. I got a vegetable burrito -- literally the only vegan item available; not even the beans and rice are vegan -- and for that I paid nearly twenty bucks. Drinks are way expensive too, so I stuck with water. Sad to pay that much money and leave hungry. Service is absolutely fantastic, and for that they deserve high marks. The menu is more limited than you might expect at a place that charges so much, but the food is pretty good. read more

I've eaten here several times usually for dinner. They are always busy when open and seem to keep up with the crowds when serving the food. I've enjoyed the tortilla soup in the past, but on my latest visit, I ordered the Enchiladas Suiza. The chicken was moist and the tomatillo sauce was not too spicy and had good flavor. The meal came with a side of sweet corn tamal which is very yummy. I wish there was more to savor but they only give you a little spoonful. The service was friendly but seemed to disappear once we were finishing up our meals so we didn't get any more drink refills. We decided to get out of town and headed West to the beautiful town of Wendover. We made reservations at Pancho and Willies located in the Peppermill Casino. Gone are the days of good inexpensive food. The decor is darling. It's a Desert Motif that's way nicer than any desert. They started our dinner with chips and salsa. They even had the option of hot or mild which is rare. I ordered an appetizer for dinner. It was huge shrimp stuffed with Monterrey Cheese, broiled and wrapped in bacon. The dipping sauce was this gingery pineapple glaze and they were beyond delicious. I'm trying to figure out how to make them myself they were so good. My husband ordered the ribs. He got a huge salad to start. Then a half rack of ribs which he said were also very very good. Our Server was fabulous despite having several large tables. That was the best part of our trip. Of course we gambled and donated to Nevada's school kids which I can live with. We didn't win at all. In fact I always lose when I go there. So if you're hungry check this place out. It's a bright light in the otherwise slightly dismal town of Wendover. read more

I will say the food is really 3 stars. But the drinks were great! I rated 4 stars putting in perspective that this place is really kinda in the middle of a very small town. The house margarita: 3 stars. Your standard margarita. The fruitaritas: ( mango flavor) 5 stars. I could sip on it the whole night. We got the parillada (seafood): 3 stars. Flavors were decent but seafood didn't seem that fresh. Again, I know this place is no where near the sea. Got 1 crab leg, 2 skewer of lobster ( prob 1 altogether), 2 skewer of grilled shrimp (2 shrimp per skewer) over a large bed of bell peppers and onions. It came with tortilla, rice and beans. Really big on the sides. It could probably serve 2 people if you eat Avery thing. Shrimp ceviche:3 stars. Avocado looks fresh but I think the shrimp was cooked first. Minimal acidity for a ceviche which was surprising. I squeezed in 2 pieces of lime. Not bad place for a meal but one minus point is that you can smell all the tobacco smoke from the casino. But at least it was opened on a Sunday evening so we were a little limited in choices. If I come back it would be mainly for margaritas and appetizers. read more

Good salsa, good food but service is slow when the place is not busy, unsmiling servers except for the male server. The manager appeared in a suit and enquired of two other tables how their meals were, had he come to our table we would have mentioned that my combo plate was without beans, the enchilada (cheese) was bland and was merely hastily assembled cheese in tortilla, rolled, then likely microwaved. It lacked the baked in goodness and was hard. Yuck. Ok overall. We had a two for one coupon, so got one entre free. Otherwise, would feel ripped at $19 and $25 a plate. read more

My friend and I found this restaurant on Yelp while visiting the Salt Flats in Utah. We were shocked how close Nevada was to the Salt Flats, and really we just wanted to say we also visited Nevada in a day trip. We were shocked when we pulled up to a casino, but equally excited about it as well. From our visit, we thought the dining experience was great. Beautiful interior, responsive staff, and great food. The $4.00 margaritas were great, and they give complementary chips and salsa. There is both a hot and mild salsa that they give the table. My friend and I ate the molcajete, and the dish was perfect for two people to share. The meat was so tender! If you're looking for a good day trip, where you can watch car races, gamble, and eat good Mexican food, then I would recommend Pancho and Willies to you. read more

This is my first 5 star review!!! And the funny thing is that its for a Mexican place in the middle of nowhere land Wendover, bordering NV and Utah. It's inside the Peppermill Casino and only open for dinner, fine dining reservations highly suggested on weekends. The atmosphere is classy yet has the Mexican vibe with attractive artificial cactus everywhere. Lovely circular booths and nice surrounding furnishings make you feel it's a special meal. Prompt friendly service and nice menu options. We were instantly given warm fresh crispy chips and two salsa's (mild and spicy), loved the flavor of the mild, I liked the spicy for the heat but had a sweetness about it I wasn't real crazy about. It's a given that being in a fancy place your not paying Taco Time prices so don't expect entree's under 15.00, most are high teens to mid twenties. Fancy cocktails are going to set you back 8-12.00 each, although they do offer slush margaritas for 3.00 which are popular but doubt it has more than tablespoon of tequila in it. Hubby ordered the Carne Asada with cheese enchiladas and I ordered the seafood Chimichanga (crab/shrimp), each came with beans and rice. Our drinks came quickly and tasty with a nice kick for the price. Our meals soon to follow were quite pleasing to the eye and loved that most all entrees come with a side plate of pico salsa, and tablespoon of sour cream and guacamole. So unless you want alot more you don't need to order and pay extra for it. Hubbys steak was impressive, not a thin typical piece of carne but an actual thick steak that looked like a perfect sirloin! He wasn't crazy about the tomato/pepper concoction they put on top so he took that off but raved about the quality and perfection of a great cooked steak. He also enjoyed the cheesy enchiladas/beans and rice. My Chimi was incredible, totally filled with chunks of yummy crab and shrimp, NO filler which is unheard of....well some cheese yes but no veggies. Loved everything. We were hungry and didnt even eat 1/2 the chips and had to leave some rice/beans behind it was so filling but weren't about to leave any scrumptious steak or seafood behind. Great dining experience from start to finish. I would go back in a heartbeat, by far best Mexican meal we've ever but have never been to a fine dining Mexican restaurant. Went there for Breakfast this last weekend. Waited almost 30 minutes to be seated (only 3 couples in front of us). We got a super friendly waiter, but he got a simple breakfast order wrong. Finally get the breakfast and it's cold, eggs are like rubber, no flavor. The corn beef hash was sitting in a pile of grease that you could have dipped your spoon in. Hash browns were just as nasty.
