needed a little something sweet after eating everything at taco chelo so we walked over to salt & straw. we came just in time to try their halloween selection before the new month. I LOVED the jack o' lantern pumpkin bread - wish it were available year round! while selecting ice cream the server was very kind with explaining each flavor and offering samples. very nice and they keep the place clean. we got there just in time too cause right after we ordered they got full!
The apple cider flavors are out now and they're amazing! I had the vanilla apple custard tart and my friend had the apple cider donuts (can't see it from the glare in my picture). I absolutely love that they put pieces of pie crust into the ice cream itself, it gives it some extra texture. We went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty slow as we arrived but after a few minutes more people started showing up. I didn't even realize this location was here or what this area had become in recent years, it's very trendy and walkable but still not sure where good parking is as we just grabbed a 15 minute spot. The ambiance is like all S&S locations, very clean and the wood everywhere makes it seem warm and inviting. Definitely visiting more S&S in the future!
Incredible ice cream and great service. They have so many rotating flavors and everything I have tried so far has been so good. They also have a lot of very unique flavors. It's high quality, rich and creamy ice cream.

Anything is possible at Salt & Straw I recently stopped by Salt & Straws newest location in Tempe after an ASU basketball game. The store is located on Novus Place across the street from North Italia. The store was super clean and the service was great. If you aren't sure which flavor to get, you can get as many samples as you'd like free of charge. I got the bananas foster with candied pecans and it was phenomenal. It was creamy, packed with banana flavor and packed with caramel and pecans. I'm already thinking about going back for seconds!
The people who work here are super kind and really helpful. It gives off the same vibes as the employees at Trader Joe's in a way with how cherry they are. I mainly go either the cookie dough or snickerdoodle ice cream. I think they both have their own special name but that is the flavors for the most part. I'll sometimes go for some toppings but the ice by itself is good enough. In addition I always recommend getting a waffle cone. They even let you try free samples as well so you really can't go wrong when it's time to make the purchase. Overall a really nice ice cream spot!
Don't let their old-timey decor and vibe fool you, this ice cream shop is not exactly traditional. It's actually an ice cream shop that pushes the envelope when it comes to flavors. They come up with flavor combos you'd never thought an ice cream shop would do...like Pear and Blue Cheese or Pumpkin Pie Tiramisu. How about Chocolate Pistachio Milk and Cookies? They have the guts to push the envelope on seemingly weird combos. They do have some more traditional type flavors as well. Before entering the place, you can smell the aromas of waffle-cone making and it draws you in. Everyone that works there is relatively friendly and they are very accommodating in letting you sample their creations. There's not a lot of place to sit and enjoy the Ice Cream though so be warned. A single scoop is over $6 so it's not exactly budget friendly. However, if you're looking for a once-in-a-while treat with ice cream flavors you never thought were possible, this is the place.

I visited around Thanksgiving, so the featured flavors were designed to take you back to grandmas house for a big ole turkey dinner. The Parker House rolls flavor hit nostalgically for me, while my husband was brave enough to try the Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce flavor! Ultimately I settled on a classic mint chip for my cone, but not until I had enjoyed several great bites of flavors I'd never had before! This is a great place to stop with friends, family or a make it a fun date night and try a bunch of new flavors before walking out with some yummy ice cream in a delish waffle cone.

The shop is pretty big inside with lots of space and I'm sure the line can get long. They also have pup cups in the freezer, which is a nice bonus. Will definitely be back!

The first time I ever had salt and straw was in Oregon 8 years ago when my boyfriend took me to show around his home town. It was very nostalgic for him. Glad to see a location is open in Arizona. The brownie one and the pineapple upside-down cake are the 2 I tried. I got 1 scoop in a waffle cone. Delicious! Wonderful location and close to where we live. I would come back again!
I am constantly blown away by the mad scientist energy at Salt & Straw. They have such a knack for taking a unique combination of ingredients that shouldn't work on paper but taste like a dream in a cup. The shop itself was impeccably clean, and what really stood out was the service. My friend had a specific request to have her ice cream served in a milkshake cup; the staff handled it instantly without a big debate or hassle. It's those small wins that make a local spot feel like home. Now the pear and blue cheese ice cream, is a masterpiece. It sounds daring, but the sweetness of the pear perfectly balances the savory from the cheese. Truly delightful. The death by chocolate cake, this one was for the chocolate lover in me. This place is easily 5/5. See you soon Salt & Straw!

I ordered off their seasonal Halloween menu and it was pretty good. Double Bubble Toil and Trouble (v) - Blend of pineapple, banana, and pear in coconut cream, spiced with cinnamon and vanilla.
Salt and straw was a great try, but not something I would come back to. Personally I'm more of a Oberweis Ice Cream kind of person, so this ice cream didn't quite meet my expectations. The restaurant is nice and the people behind the counter are great. They offered me a sample of a few flavors as well. Overall, not my taste but a great place.

Its not cheap but it is worth it! Salt & Straw has such great ice cream and flavors for every palate. You can sample the flavors and I definitely would as a lot of the flavors are on the more adventurous side. You may love it or not! I ended up getting the strawberry balsamic (one I already love but definitely not for everyone!) and a more traditional option, salted malted cookie dough. I love that they have a split single scoop option though today I went for 2 scoops. Sign up in the app if you want points. For some reason you can't sign up in store. There's 15 minute parking out front if you just want to grab ice cream to go. If you want to stick around, there's plenty of seating inside or areas to walk around outside. read more

Just checked out one of Salt & Straw's newest valley locations! Located in Tempe Novus Plaza, which is right on ASU Campus, overall great spot, but you do have to pay for parking unless you are able to snag one of the free street/temporary options. I went with my family and though there was a long line, it moved quickly! We loved that they encouraged sampling and even more so that they use real mini spoons and have a little spoon drop ( love a sustainable feature). Salt & Straw doesn't dish out traditional flavors and has a more unique line up, they definitely imitate a classic, but with their own twist! Some of them being more off the wall than others. I opted for th Salted, Malted Cookie Dough and Olive Oil Vanilla, which paired nicely together! I tried the coffee nuts, lavender, as ell as a few of their seasonal ones. It's a very fun spot and greta for a unique sweet treat. You can also get pints to go, as well as pup cups! Prices are around $6 or so for a scoop, though it is a good size and they do have a .50 cent split scoop charge. Overall, delicious and perfect treat! read more
Located in a vibrant new area of Tempe surrounded by several great restaurants, Salt & Straw was truly the cherry on top of the dinner cake! We had dinner at North Italia and then walked across for dessert -- the perfect combo. I mixed two flavors (thanks to the helpful ice cream assistant!) -- half Coffee with Pecan Praline and half one of their limited-edition specials featuring Heath Bar, chocolate, and other mix-ins that paired perfectly together. Note: there's a small $0.50 charge for splitting flavors, which I didn't realize at first, so just a heads up! We took our ice cream across the street to a grassy courtyard area between all the restaurants and enjoyed it under the night sky -- such a relaxing and sweet way to end the evening. Highly recommend for any ice cream lover -- Salt & Straw never disappoints! read more

I was so excited to hear that Salt & Straw just opened a new location in Tempe! This this is located in Novus plaza by ASU and there was lots of parking options nearby. There are so many great dinner spots nearby to check out prior to grabbing a sweet treat from Salt & Straw. There will normally be a long line, but trust me, it's worth the wait and the line moves very quickly. You can even taste test as many flavors as you want prior to ordering. My favorite hands down is the Sea Salt and Caramel Ribbons. You can even take a pint of your favorite flavor home with you! This establishment is clean and the staff is so friendly. read more

service was slow on a sunday afternoon, there was 2 small groups in front of me and only one worker helping them, a second worker came up to help the group after mine, but 15 minutes of waiting despite already knowing what i wanted to try and buy was kind of annoying. the lighting and vibe was great, seemed like a very cute place, i loved the different flavor combinations and how i could get something pretty regular or something more daring, the one i chose was a limited time flavor and it was pretty good my only disappointment is that when i got a sample it had a piece of pie crust which was awesome but my entire scoop didnt have hardly any if any at all of crust so it wad pretty disappointing as i expected there to be at least a tiny bit throughout the amount i got. read more
Visited Salt & Straw while in Tempe. The atmosphere was super chill, and the service was exceptional -- Rose and Rilee took great care of us, serving everything up with genuine smiles that made the whole experience feel special. We ordered the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper on the bottom and Arbequina Olive Oil on top, and wow -- the flavors and textures were absolutely off the charts. Delicious ice cream! My coworkers and I stopped by Salt & Straw after having lunch at North Italia since it's right across the street. The employee working the counter was really helpful and lets us sample different flavors. After 3 samples, I decided to get a scoop of the Peanut Butter Brownie Cereal Puffs on a Salted Brownie Waffle Cone. Little did I know the whole waffle cone would be stuffed with ice cream! Love the Novus Corridor area where Salt and Straw is located. I had a great experience at Salt and Straw I tried the salted, malted,chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in a waffle cone.. it was scrumptious!!! The staff was very helpful and offered numerous tasting which was fun. The shop was very clean and well stocked. I love the premade pup cups and my dog enjoyed his treat.. The ice cream shop was packed when we visited on a Friday night, but it was worth it. I ordered the honey lavender flavor, and it honestly ended up being one of the best ice creams I've ever had. It was sweet and balanced, with subtle floral notes that weren't overpowering. I'll definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the mood for a sweet treat. The space itself had a clean yet cozy feel and was in a great plaza to walk around and enjoy your ice cream. read more

I stopped in here after eating nearby. I took a chance on their tacolate - an ice cream taco and it was pretty good. The ice cream itself had just a little kick from the cinnamon-ancho ice cream. The shell was nice and crunchy and it came with some unique sauces - a mango jalapeño and a wild berry cinnamon. I preferred the mango and felt the wild berry was just a little too artificial tasting. Overall it was a pretty good little treat read more

The aroma of the lavender and the taste of sweet honey, and lavender mixture in the homemade waffle cone made it elite! Salt & Straw remains my favorite ice cream spot! The only downside with this location is that parking can be difficult and if you park in the garage you have to pay. read more
