If you turn onto St.Charles St., just keep driving. Ignore the industrial buildings until…read moreyou arrive at this small, innocuous-looking building that is this Cuban restaurant & bar. If I were to remove a star, it would be because of the exterior. But I'm not going to remove a star. Once again, I come to an ethnic restaurant that looks questionable on the outside. But as we all know, those are the restaurants that have the BEST food. So I entered the restaurant, bravely and was greeted immediately by a very friendly server, who offered me to sit in either the dining or the bar area. I chose the dining area because it had more light. The bar area was way too dark for my preference, but she explained that the state law required them to keep it dark (because it's a bar area). The bar area has seating along the bar itself, and at a few tables in the area. Plus, (and it's a big plus for me) there is a pool table and and music plays all the time. :-) So I tried the drink soursop (guanabana) which is a tropical fruit that tastes like a combination of strawberries and apples. I really enjoyed it! Try it on ice because it tastes better when it is cold, per the recommendation of my wonderful server. As an appetizer, she brought to me fried onion rings with an amazing creamy garlic sauce for dipping. I am ashamed to say that I inhaled those onion rings! I dipped each one dipped in the flavorful garlic sauce. For dinner I ordered the eight. The pork team sliced with caramelized onions on top it I could not believe how tender and flavorful the pork was. Just amazing scrumptious! It melted my mouth. Eating it along with the congri was just a delightful experience. The dish came with a side salad (chopped red cabbage over sliced tomatoes) that was nothing special , but it looked very pretty. Foolishly, I ordered a side on yucca. It comes with warm queso on the side. I tried the yucca dipped in the queso AND dipped in the creamy garlic sauce (that came with the appetizer onion rings). While I liked both flavors, I preferred the garlic sauce with the yucca (I'm just a sucker for garlic). As I said earlier, the flavors of the pork, caramelized onions and congri were the stars of this dish. The tasty food, efficient service and the friendly owner (who visited my table and talked to me while I waited for my food), almost makes me wish I lived here so that I could partake at my convenience. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. If you are ever close to here, you should try it also.

Food took a little time to come out but I expect that in-between busy times. We were the only ones eating for most of the time we were there. The appetizers were really good, we had croquettes and empanadas that were great. The meals were really good, the only problem we had was my wifes Ropa Vieja was dry. The owner stopped by asked how everything was and gave us a discount because I was wearing a USAF Veteran hat. I didn't ask for it or expect it but really appreciated that extra touch. We will be back

Went in on a busy afternoon for lunch. To be completely honest the lack of flavor from the food I…read morehad is insulting to Caribbean culture. I had the chicken plate with Cuban black beans and St Lucian rice. The signature bbq sauce was essentially a thinner version of Manwhich. As a whole, it was all very bland and the food temperature was lukewarm. People around us were ordering the salad with almonds and oranges on it, came with some type of bread. Not sure the name but it looked delicious! Maybe I'll try that. If I were to go back I'd definitely order something different because this meal was not the one for me. Our server was great! Can't remember his name unfortunately. However, he was very attentive and even topped off our togo drinks without asking. I noticed he was taking care of nearly every table in the restaurant and still managed to get everything right, never forgetting a thing. Five stars for him! The restaurant is set up like an outdoor patio. There are various 2-4 seater tables with picnic style chairs. The staff quickly accommodated my party of four by combining two tables. Service was quick and efficient not sure if I'd recommend for large groups.

I can finally return more! That fruit tea is the second greatest fruit tea I've had, being edged out of first place only slightly by Baja down the street. Thompson Lane I think is the center of the fruit tea universe. All these years later I still only get a couple of things there. Black bean rice nachos and the black bean salad. There's not a lot on their menu that I really enjoy, but those two I really do. My kiddos are fans of both the black bean and chicken nachos and I have requests often to drop in and it's usually when dropping in would result in being stuck in traffic for an hour. Womp womp. They recently reopened for dinner which I have yet to have had a chance to do. It's been on my radar but something about eating a mass of beans before bedtime doesn't appeal to my crew - their loss. Used to be a fan of their carrot cake as well, got to put that on my to-do list. Something about carrot cake and fruit tea and beans just yeah, get that to go.

We had a 5:45 reservation, arrived about ten minutes early, and they were kind enough to seat us right away. The place was absolutely packed with folks heading to the 7:30 show, but despite the rush, service was quick and smooth. The food hit the spot. The Jalapeño Chicken was pure Mexican-style comfort food...cheesy, flavorful, and with just the right kick of heat (definitely a heads up if you're spice-sensitive). The Chicken Quesadilla came out as a generous portion, easily enough to fill us up. We also tried the guacamole, which tasted super fresh with a bright pop of lime. Everything came out hot, well-prepared, and on time. Between the excellent service, great food, and unbeatable convenience if you're headed to the Fisher Center, this place is a no-brainer. We'll definitely be back next time!

I dislike places that charge for chips and salsa, but that's simply because who doesn't want to eat their weight in chips and salsa. The guacamole was delicious though. I absolutely loved how fresh it came out. I ordered a quesadilla and while it was good, it wasn't worth the price. Everyone got full, but we were left wanting more. Our service was also subpar simply because they never came and refilled our drinks. So we were all thirsty and sitting there waiting. It was good, but not amazing.
