a plate of empanadas and chips

This food truck is delicious! The empanadas were fresh and packed with so much flavor. If you go I would recommend getting the cranberry chipotle salsa, it's so good! They also had a pumpkin pie empanada that was insane and the perfect fall treat! Definitely check where the food truck will be and try them out!

We were greeted by the hostess and told we could sit whenever we wanted and we chose the bar. The bartender got us a couple waters while we looked at the menu. After several minutes she came back and we asked for chips and salsa. Several more minutes passed before she came back and we placed our order for food. Not a complicated lunch. I ordered Chicken Tinga Tacos and my wife ordered the Chicken Chile Relleno. We waited about 20 minutes, food hadn't arrived, we had eaten all the Chips and Salsa and the bartender was ignoring us. We could see the kitchen and it didn't look like the cooks were even working. Not sure how you could not take care of probably a total of 10 people during lunch. We told the bartender and manager we were leaving because we hadn't gotten our food and to cancel our order. What has happened to this place? Has it changed ownership? What we saw yesterday was a poorly run restaurant and it's kind of sad after having some many good meals here.

It was delicious. Everyone was satisfied with their orders from tacos Al pastor to Chaufa Fried Rice. Drinks were on par, and they offered numerous drinks specials as well.

I ordered a beef and shrimp empanada. The total was $14, and it's great that you get to mix and match any two for $14. I was a little bit, disappointed by how salty the empanadas were. I felt like I was sprinkling lime juice in using the cream sauce, just to dull down the saltines rather than for the flavor. The beef and cheese empanada was a bit oily, but less salty, whereas the shrimp empanada was quite salty. I was, however, quite impressed by the yucca fries. Those were very well seasoned, and had a sweetness to them. That was really pleasant! I definitely wanted to like this place a lot more than I did, especially given the hype around them.

One of the most colorful food trucks in the Nashville area, this is an Columbian empanada paradise. My understanding is the empies are all gluten free, as well, which is a bonus. Well done beef empanada. One of the best I have had in my life (the best being Empa Mundo in Irving, Texas). Seems like a simple thing, but the empie, the unique mix of beef, gouda, and spices, and the sauce just work. Simple comfort food, but well done. I would also consider adding on an Avo-Tomato salad or Platano Maduro to round out the meal. Drinks also very authentic for the type of food. Look at their social media to see where they are this week. Basement East is one of their normal haunts.

Spoiler alert. We were not let down. We started with the grilled octopus, which was excellent, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The catch of the day ceviche was fresh and bright, exactly what you want. For my entree I had the lomo saltado with beef, and the flavors were excellent across the board, that classic Peruvian stir fry hitting all the right notes. The sauce alone was worthy of a take home box. On the drink side, the pisco martini was a great pairing with the meal and a fun way to lean into the Peruvian specialties. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, which made the whole evening feel like an occasion rather than just dinner out. Parking was easy with a private lot right behind the restaurant. This one is a great addition to the East Nashville food scene and well worth the visit.

It was mother's day and they were very busy- so booking a table on Open Table was the right move. I love Lomo Saltado, Ceviche, Chaufa- but this time I decided to try something new and got Aji de Gallina. I love the flavor of aji amarillo and the flavor & taste were perfect. It was so delicious. It was served in a big plate and I had to save the half of it for later. Pricing on menu is slightly more than I usually spend for lunch, but here I thought it was worth every dollar! Quality and taste delivered. Last but not least, our server was wonderful! She was attentive, friendly and spoke to us in Spanish and English. What a gem in East Nashville. If you have not tried Peruvian cuisine, you just have to try it here!
