I heard good things about Lily May, and finally had the chance to try it myself. Is it a really great bar with good food? Or a nice restaurant with a great bar? Somehow, this place accomplishes both. Most places have what's called a "Barrel" pick. They sample and buy a specific barrel to bottle and serve. Not here. Lily actually contracted to create their own line. So let's first talk about the Bourbon. It's intentionally a lower proof- from past experiences they found that folks who don't really drink a lot of bourbon (gender aside) don't care for higher proofs. I mean, it's around 80 proof- pretty mainstream. I had it in an Old Fashioned and neat, just to see what it's like. Neat- I found it smooth, drinkable and aromatic. In a cocktail, I thought it was a bit sweet for my taste. Not unpleasant, but I want to taste the whiskey in my drink. I will give them credit- to my taste, usually lower proofs come across as thin or watery. This bourbon held up just fine. It's a very limited menu. Only 3 appetizer options. No "Small Plates"- just real food to graze on while enjoying a drink. Nice pasta and pizza selections. No steak or seafood options, which I found interesting (I don't consider frozen shrimp in the same category as a fresh fish filet). But still we had 3 different entrees and they were really tasty. Healthy portions nicely presented. Prices were exceptionally fair and reasonable. It's new and being from the industry I know opening in the winter, with the Ballpark closed, SkyPac and WKU out for the holidays, is hard. But the owner is friendly, knowledgeable and has done a great job of keeping food costs low while still keeping the lights on until things get busier. I'm betting that's why the menu is not more adventurous. Maybe as things pick up he can expand the offerings. Our server was great, attentive and not afraid to make suggestions- which I like. This is a little overdue . Couple weeks ago a friend and I visited Lily May Bourbon . It was such a nice atmosphere comfortable and friendly . The owner ,Chad, if I recall his name stopped by our table and gave us a great overview of his establishment.The server raved about the menu and strongly recommended the Hot Brown . I'm not one to exaggerate, but please for the love of everything try Lily Mays. They just opened in October, and they're trying to get the ball rolling. The owner personally came up, shook our hand, and spoke to us about the startup and the menu. The atmosphere is out of this world, quiet but still ambient. It's so extremely charming and quaint. Not to mention the food!! We got the baked alfredo and 10 inch thin crust, and the picture speaks 1000 words. The ingredient quality was amazing. We always have excellent service at Lily May! The location is great. The interior is unique and cozy. The meatballs are probably our favorite offering on the menu but everything has been good. I love the different martinis and my husband enjoys the bourbon. read more

My wife and I visited Lily May on a Saturday night. I didn't know what to expect going in, but I was surprised and impressed. Very friendly atmosphere, I am sure regulars feel like family here because as a first time patron I felt the same way. There was live music that was complimentary to the atmosphere and not distracting. Very good. Attentive staff, met the owner as well, but not in a bothering sort of way. We ate the meatball appetizer 10/10. We also shared a small size pizza 7.5/10 (thin cracker like crust). And we shared a baked spaghetti 8/10. We have since called in a to-go order. This is the best meal we've had in a long time. The pretzel with two sauces was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. I ordered the Italian pot roast and it was so tender and delicious. My husband ordered the dinner salad with buffalo chicken. I ordered a SKY mule and my husband ordered an old fashioned. Both were perfectly balanced. I really dislike to leave a poor review and wish this restaurant like all, success. 4 of us came for lunch. We were seated right away. Got our drinks right away. When I asked our waiter which salad dressings were made in house and he declared none, they were bottled, I decided against having a salad. We all ordered a hot brown, my daughter and I sharing one. I will say that I am choosy about food, but my husband and daughter's boyfriend will eat just about anything. We didn't expect the famous Brown Hotel, hot brown, but how bad could a sliced turkey on bread with cheese and sauce be? The turkey was like something we'd never experienced before and wondered if it was meat? It was about an inch thick, rectangular, gelatinous texture piece of "turkey". Didn't look, cut or taste like turkey. We just could not get over the texture or eat it. I asked our waiter what kind of turkey it was? He said he didn't know because he's usually the bartender? We expressed that it was like nothing we'd ever seen before as turkey. I even scraped the cheese and sauce away to get a good look. He took 4 plates away with hardly anything eaten from them. I stopped in not really knowing what to expect and ended up being really impressed. The service was top-notch--friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to walk you through their bourbon selection. They even poured a sample of their in-house small-batch bourbon, which clearly speaks for itself--they sold nine bottles while I was there. If you're an espresso martini fan, do yourself a favor and try the bourbon martini. The food was just as good as the drinks. We loved the service at Lily May Bourbon. It was a charming restaurant near SKYPAC that offered wonderful bourbon concoctions and flavorful food. We had an Old Fashioned and a Peach Bourbon drink that was super smooth and yummy. The chicken Alfredo and pot roast were great. We also had the hot brown to go! After someone claimed to be our party and took our table they improvised and gave us a nice private space. The owners are very nice and you can tell they are working hard. This is a great little bar on the corner of College and seventh Street in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It sits right next to the southern Kentucky performing arts center also known as the SKYPAC.
