I've been coming to 440 since college but I no longer live in bowling green and only eat it a couple of times per year. Let's talk appetizers. The Nashville hot burrata is unique and tasty. The spinach and artichoke dip has changed for the worse. It used to be the best spin dip I've ever had but I would not order this new version again. We also tried the deviled eggs and they were good. For entrees we got a salmon Caesar salad, the filet au poivre , and a spinach salad. My filet au poivre was delicious as always. Those garlic mashed potatoes are everything. My friend was celebrating a birthday so they brought her out free cheese cake and it was light and fluffy and amazing. I had some red wine left so I ordered the flourless chocolate cake. It was meh. Wouldn't order again. They should bring back the flourless chocolate torte with raspberry sauce. read more

My wife and I had been looking forward to dining at 440 Main for some time. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by a friendly host who seated us right away. Our server was fantastic, personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive. He offered excellent recommendations for both drinks and appetizers, and every suggestion was spot-on. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Vanilla Vodka Espresso Martini, while I savored a classic Old Fashioned. We also tried the special potato appetizer he suggested, which was outstanding. For our entrees, my wife ordered the Filet and I had the Ribeye, both were cooked perfectly and delicious. We were so satisfied by the end of the meal that we didn't have room for dessert, which simply gives us a great reason to return soon. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the pricing felt very reasonable. Every staff member we encountered, from the host to our server and the manager who checked on us multiple times, was attentive and kind. Local gem alert! I chose this restaurant based on Yelp reviews and sat at the bar just like always. The bar has an old school local feel. It's a little, but not too, loud and reminded me of places I used to go with my dad. Sidney, Todd (who was enjoying his first night as a bartender) and Gillian teamed up to take great care of me. Service was excellent and I struggled with the menu because everything looked so good. I settled on the Cajun spring rolls and the small (6 oz) fillet, medium rare. The spring roll appetizer consisted of three spring rolls and a wonderful sauce. My fillet was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. I found this place on Yelp and saw that it had amazing reviews. When you walk in, there are two options - on the left is 440 Main, and on the right is Micki's on Main. We decided to eat at Micki's, which has a similar menu to 440 Main. Their atmosphere was rockin' - literally! They had two gentlemen singing with guitars, and the entire place was singing along, definitely our kind of spot. Our server was super nice, had blondish/brown curly hair, was tall - attentive, and was on top of us whenever we needed refills, etc. We started with their cajun spring rolls, crispy outside, and jam-packed with flavor and spices. The mango BBQ sauce it laid on, I could have drank it was so good. For dinner, I tried their stuffed chicken with chorizo and spinach and swapped the side for their risotto - exceptional. A thick piece of chicken, sliced in half and stuffed, the risotto was creamy a bit al dente, but still delicious. For drinks I tried their champagne/gin seasonal/new years drink, it was balanced nicely. The food was yummy, the music was great, and the drinks were top-notch! The food was EXCELLENT! I had a special of the day, Red Fish, that was to DIE FOR! The ambiance was a little too dark, making it difficult to read the menu. And the fact that there's a VERY popular bar right through open doorways made conversation pretty difficult. We were a group of 20, and only had one waiter assigned, so service was pretty slow. In Bowling Green there is a place called 440 Main...a building built for John Getty in 1871. Sat at the bar and Jillian got me set up with some water and a beer while I looked things over. You can order from the 440 Main or the Micki's on Main menu (both under same ownership) so I asked Jillian for advice. Based on her suggestion I went with the Cajun Spring Rolls and the special Summer Vegetable Cioppino. The spring rolls were incredible...highly recommend you order an extra helping of the Mango Barbeque Sauce cause it is addicting. I've never had Cioppino but this was loaded with all kinds of seafood and veggies in a robust tomato wine sauce. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the "leek hay"...just did not like the texture but it was easy to move it aside. The food was great and the service from Jillian was excellent. read more

Tuesday night is burger night on the bar side of 440 called Micki's on Main. For $7.95 you get to choose from several different types of burgers that come with nicely seasoned fries. We were lucky to snag a table inside. It was too hot outside for me to eat. The table was dirty but the waitress was there pretty quickly to clean it and bring us menus. We started with the bbq shrimp and grits appetizer. Highly recommend it. I had the special bar old fashioned which was very nicely done. Just because you're in the bar doesn't mean you can't order off the dining room menu. My date choose a garden salad, filet and French fries. I had the cheddar bacon burger and fries. It's a nice big burger and fries for this price! Tip: it is very busy on Tuesday if you come at prime dinner time. Be patient and you will find a table or a place at the bar. For my daughters birthday we joined her at Micki's on Main bar adjoining 440 Main. Same wonderful food, and chef. The atmosphere is a little more casual than dining in 440 Main. We had the Cajun Spring Roll as starter. It was delicious. I ordered the ribeye and my wife had the pork chop with corn. Really was one of the best steaks I have ate, the garlic mashed potatoes were also delicious. I paired it with Kona Golden Wave beer. Not many places have Kona on tap so it was so good. My wife's pork chop she said compared to a Patti's 1880 settlement pork chop for its flavor. She loved the corn as well. It is a little expensive, but for special occasions we will be sure to come back and celebrate. read more

Recently took an out of town guest there for dinner. The server was great and the foods including the oysters on the half shell were perfect and so fresh. The delight of the evening was ruined when we got the check and saw a three point something percent service charge added to our check. Ask the server what it was and he said it was because of paying with a credit card. Customers don't like getting charged for paying the business that has chosen to accept credit cards. Just put a big sign up on your door that says Cash Only if the charge from the credit card company is a big of a problem for the restaurant. read more

I remember clearly sipping on my perfect drink, nibbling my perfect shrimp-and-grits, and being childishly angry that somehow Kentucky had prevented me from finding this sooner. They were hiding this happy place from me..! They are very good indeed. The service is stellar; attentive without being unctuous or anxious. The atmosphere brings New Orleans to mind without use of Mardi Gras beads or zydeco, and the food is approachable, scalable (you can go light or heavy and not be left out of courses) and flavorful. The environment on the Mickey side is nice and they have a more fine dining side as well . We got turned away from our first choice because we didn't have a reservation (even though their dining room was near empty at the time) so we went to a nearby bakery (Little Fox) to get some goodies and asked if there was another good place to eat in the area and they told us to try 440 Main. They had the doors open to the outside so there was a nice breeze. The ambience was laid back but nice. It was a little loud but in a busy, lively, fun way. We ordered the Cajun Spring Rolls (they needed more filling other than cheese. I mainly tasted cheese and not Andouille sausage or chicken), my mom got the Chicken Quesadilla (very good), my niece got the Hot Chicken Sandwich (the chef was very accommodating and changed the usual very spicy sauce to something easier for my niece to eat, buffalo sauce), and I ordered the Champagne Chicken which was amazing. My only suggestion is less breading but the chicken was very tender and I loved the sauce! My niece ordered the Who Dat? Punch and I took a quick sip and it was delicious and I'm not even a drinker! My niece loved it but wished it came in a bigger glass, LOL! $5.00 for the amount she got wasn't bad, though. This is really 4.5 stars due to the spring rolls not having much tasty filling and the slightly over breaded chicken. Very happy though that we didn't eat at the first place because they were rather boring looking compared to this place. Our server, Jessica M., was very nice and attentive and really patient with us (my mom takes forever to decide on what to order, LOL). Food is always good but it has a limited menu which doesn't change. The specials change but you cannot make any substitutes say vegetable medley for just asparagus, very disappointing. Service is polite, depends on the server, I had one that forgot to bring a coffee, then the cream.....The ambience is good, quite, good for having a conversation. My sore point is with a 4% surcharge to your bill unless you pay cash! Who carries cash? There are other options for a descent meal with average service to go to in town without paying a premium. We really liked the ambiance. Our waiter, Griffin, offered excellent service but the kitchen was slow. We didn't mind the wait too much because we had time. The menu is limited but it's because each entree is a specialty. The filet was so tender you could almost cut it with a fork. The smoked pork chop was delicious. Even the corn was above and beyond. We stopped in at Micki's on Main, 440 main's sister restaurant. I have a few things I'd like to note on why I gave it only 2 stars. The first and foremost point being told we could not order oysters because they are "out of season" Crash course on oysters, You only need heed the "r" month warning if you're hunting oysters yourself. Commercial oyster farmers take precautions that keep their oysters safe year-round. Farmed oysters don't sit on boats for hours, and with modern conveniences, such as refrigeration, the heat is an irrelevant issue anyway. Also, many farms use non-spawning oysters -- called triploids, which negates the summer spawning issue all together. We also felt the menu was confusing and didn't follow a theme, making it messy and less enjoyable. Also on top of it, our server put very bare bones, minimal effort into our service including rushing us on getting us to order and only standing at our table long enough to answer a single question then leave before we could respond. We had decided already at this point that we'd eat what we were rushed to order then leave. What we did order before deciding to leave was the GUMBO CUP (appetizer)- It was decently tasty, but was much too thin to be considered a gumbo, and was more so of like a Cajun inspired soup. Also the rice was mixed in the gumbo, which we prefer to be separate. We also couldn't tell if there actually was roux in the gumbo leading to the question of how it got its color without it and why did it taste like it was rushed with some type of gravy stock. CAJUN EGG ROLLS- It was stuffed with cheese, shredded chicken, and bacon. It was technically good, but nothing special to write home about. Also if you prefer to avoid pork like myself, this place isn't the best pick. On top of EVERYTHING ELSE, the hours posted for operation are vastly different between Yelp, apple, and google. So finding out when the place is actually open seems impossible. In summary, I don't think I would go out of my way to return here, nor will I probably even remember my experience in the coming up months when oysters are "back in season"... read more
