So, this place isn't much to look at, but a friend recommended it to me. Walking in reminded me of a bare bones pizza joint from the early 90's before they all added a fine dining room. Loved it. The staff was super friendly! I ordered a slice of chicken parm and grabbed a Pure Leaf. Slice was out quick, nice and hot. The slice was DELICIOUS! Couldn't have asked for any better. It was LOADED with chicken. Plenty of condiments for the tables as well (garlic, red pepper, etc...). I will certainly be back to try some other menu items. First came in two girls behind the counter, so you get served twice as fast. So I had the grandma Sicilian and it tasted exactly like Sal's mamaneck and I asked them and they said no they're not affiliated because it's light and airy and sales in my neck is famous and I think this place should be famous now. My wife had the chicken myself oh my God that sauce on that pizza don't change it. It is rich with taste. On the counter, they had two plastic containers. One said vote for your tree fake or real. Ordered dinner here last night, besides the fact that it took 45 minutes to make a meatball hero and pasta their "meatball hero" had two meatballs sliced and put across the whole bread. I used to love SALS pizza, I ordered several times a month from them. Tonight, I ordered a large pie, with sausage and extra cheese. The box came crushed, everything stuck to the top, and the delivery driver was not even old enough to enlist in the armed forces. I called and waited over 80 minutes, and then was told they would send another one but have to return the pie. Implying that I may have lied and tried to score a free pizza and have to send the pie back. The owner demanding it get sent back, was that for safety or he doubted the veracity of a customer complaint? Sal's Pizza is my mid-week treat. I generally buy their Sicilian slices. There is just the right amount of sauce and mozzarella (not matzorella which must be some kind of cheese eaten during Passover). The prices are reasonable and the pizza is always fresh. I really enjoy it when I add sausage and mushrooms. You can't go wrong with their Pizza. I'm also a fan of their eggplant it is very close to the way my mother made it. As a hero or cut up and placed on a slice of Pizza it's the best. Do yourself a favor and skip the fast-food joints in and around Sal's location and get some real food. read more

These people have zero respect for their customers and there are too many other good places in Carmel to put up with them. We had been loyal customers of Sal's for 15 plus years but their attitude is intolerable. Last night we had our elderly parents over for there 59th wedding anniversary, so we ordered a big dinner for 5 people. After waiting for over well over and hour and a half we called to see where the food was because it was already 45 minutes late. It turns out that they lost the order. Ok, these things happen so we ended up waiting for over two hours and it screwed up our evening a bit but hey..we have a relationship with Sal's for over 15 years and have spent thousands in that place so, forgive and forget right? The very next evening we wanted to order just a large pie with two toppings and have it delivered but Sal's said NO to the delivery because we are .2 miles further than the delivery line all of a sudden and the $30 for the pizza didn't justify the delivery! This is the very next night after we spent well over $100.00 in their place for the anniversary dinner that they totally screwed up! We never asked for a discount or an additional appetizer or anything because felt we had a Relationship with this restaurant. When my wife complained to the owner about them not delivering the pizza because of the .2 miles his response was they won't do it but that their is nothing personal about it ...What a fool! The restaurant business IS ALL personal relationships. "HOSPITALITY" How do you do that to your loyal customers who have spent thousands in your business and whose anniversary dinner you screwed up the very night before? Not personal? EXACTLY. Sal's is hands down my go to restaurant. My family and I have been ordering from them almost every Friday for years. They've catered so many events for us too. Not only do they have amazing pizza but they do dinners for 2 and dinners for 4 which is perfect on a night when you just don't feel like cooking. Also they are ALWAYS open aside from Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter (can you tell I go there a lot LOL). I have been a long time customer of Sals Pizza and I love the place. They've got great pizza and their staff has definitely improved over the years. The counter girls are super sweet and it's nice to see the family together working. They can be a bit slow sometimes especially for deliveries but restaurants GET BUSY. They do the best they can to get your food to you on time and if there is an issue they try to correct it either by getting you new food or crediting you for next time. I highly recommend this place over any others in Carmel! read more

Update 5/21/2017 So I've eaten here a few times after posting my original review and I continue to be happy. Sal's is my favorite pizza of Carmel,NY. Their penne a la vodka is amazing. If you like bacon, you NEED to try this. This is the first penne a la vodka I've eaten where the bacon flavor is strong. Their customer service is always friendly. I'm not one who loves to talk on the phone, and I'm quite the introvert, but I never feel obligated to call and place an order. Their plain slices are just amazing and remind me of The Bronx (I'm originally from the Bronx). These guys will continue to get our business. I hope they never change! Can't wait to try more of their pasta dishes, sandwiches, and calzones. read more

I greatly suggest that you try their Sicilian. It is fairly consistent, and most often very good, but it's best as an insurance against a blackened bottom of the standard slice or pie. The Sicilian is cooked in a pan. Thus, no carbonized bottom from an unscraped oven. The Neapolitan pie, however, comes out of a poorly cleaned oven. The bottom is thereby ruined by contact with a problematic oven surface. Take a trip to the great pizzerias of Bensonhurst and environs. Watch how they often clean, wash, scrape down and otherwise provide a rather pristine surface for their precious pies. It pays off. Otherwise enjoy your carbon. Not good at any price. The people who run Sal's seem sincere, so my hope is that they will change their methods, but there was a place north of Ossining where I witnessed customer after customer complain of burnt pizza only to hear "Get out, my pies are perfect." I tried this place because I got a menu in my mailbox and wanted to live life on the edge and try something new. I Ordered two heroes and the eggplant rollintini. The rollintini was pretty good. The hero bread was big but the fillings lacked and there was not enough sauce. I ended up putting some ham, sauce and cheese on the heroes and baking them again and this was after waiting an hour and a half for delivery. Yeah so I ate too late and had to re cook it.
