I just needed a trim and found this place near my job. Everyone there was warm, welcoming, and very attentive. They brought me tea during my very short wait. My stylist was Nasim and she was wonderful. She took the time to listen to what I wanted and also checked with me several times during the cut to make sure the length was good and I liked it. So my mom went today and went for an appointment with Badrie for coloring her entire hair. She had the worst experience of her life: Badrie did not give proper time to her and wanted to get done with the job that she was supposed to give her attention and time to, my mom had a lasik surgery yesterday and her eyes almost got filled with shampoo water, she colored her hair twice because she messed up the first time, and her forehead got colored due to the hair color dripping down across her forehead, and during washing her hair all the water dripped down across her back and made her clothes wet. I read the reviews and based on those I set up an appointment with Badrie for my mom. My mom is 100% sure that she will never go back there again after her horrible experience and and Badrie's apparent overly hyped skillset. FYI, I'm an extremely picky person and I only travel and dine 5 star, no joke lol. I rather sit home than have a 4 star experience in any aspect of life. Now, that being said, I just visited Salon Etoiles last night. It was my first time there and the staff was most welcoming and sweet. Even though it was late in the evening, I was greeting with kind and warm smiles, much different from the usual nail places that kinda run like a factory and treat you as a dollar sign. Their selection of nail polishes were great, they had so many great colors I couldn't decide which one I wanted. Kat was my nail technician and she was definitely different from nail technician I had seen before, she was beautiful, kind, friendly, and she actually spoke English! One of my pet peeves is when you go to a nail salon and the technicians all speak in their language and start laughing, I bet every time that they are laughing at us customers! That's why I decided to try a new place and I am so happy I did. Kat took great care of me, my feet got a quality pedicure and she took her time and didn't rush at all. I wanted a nice bright red for Valentines day and she hooked me up! She engaged in conversation with me and provided me with snacks and an awesome cup of tea. It was exactly what I needed after a long day at the office. Ladies, if you want to feel like a queen, and not just like a number, come see Kat at Salon Etoiles. She's the best and I will definitely be back to see her. I went in to remove my old shellac polish and receive a shellac manicure, and I loved the experience. The location is great (street parking is right out front), and the staff is welcoming and friendly. My nail technician, Azien, did a beautiful job with both removing the old polish and applying the new polish. Throughout the entire experience, I felt relaxed. Azien is so sweet and easy to talk to! From helping me pick out a good color to offering me a beverage and getting my nails in great shape, she did a terrific job, and I highly recommend going to her for nail work. I just went in this past Saturday for a facial that I got a Groupon for. The staff were really friendly and greeted me upon arrival. The facial was really great and relaxing. I'm really disappointed at salon Etoiles. I truly sorry went to this salon. I just walked in and aske for shellac manicure and she told me they are booked and I asked if they change their phone number and she called me liar in her language. Irate, crazy and rude lady (ashraf) not sure if that's her name. Even her coworkers told her in Farsi be nice to her. When I asked for her manager she told me they don't have manger and after ten min she told me manager is in Chicago and they don't have contact number. I went for a haircut for myself and my mother in law in Feb. Badrie was excellent at her work and gave me a complete different look liked by so many people. She gave me suggestions and answered all of my questions patiently. She spent almost 1 hour just with me . This place definitely needs a visit. You will be extremely pleased. After listening to my sister rave about the salon, I purchased a groupon. My daughter and I went in for a haircut with Badrie, the owner. She was very hospitable, professional and highly skilled. She took the time to listen to us and explained what she thought would work best. My daughter and I were both happy with the outcome. A month later, my mom is still telling me that the cut is the best I have had in years. We will definitely return to Badrie! I had the best ever experience in this salon. Usually, I don't do reviews, but this time I felt the level of service and expertise I received from Badri and the other personnel was so exceptional that I just had to tell everyone about it. From the moment I walked in I was warmly greeted and made to feel comfortable and listened to. I have very very fine and thin hair and Badri gave me a cut that added so much volume and style. She is the only stylist I've ever met who has such a genuine interest in all aspects of hair care - from coloring to cutting to styling and is even a certified trichologist . I was going to buy some products but she suggested I wait until after she had a chance to do a free treatment first. Most salons push stuff at you, but she didn't. Instead she gave me material to read first. I also want to comment that the day I was there and told her how happy I was (and also made my next appointment to come back for hi-lights, she was so pleased to hear that. She said that she and the others were a little down that day because of a couple of less than complimentary reviews. She immediately asked me what she thought I might suggest to improve the overall experience. She was very sad that someone had not had a less than stellar experience and was hoping she could encourage them to give them another try. I can only say that if you had a bad experience, you might want to tell her about it first before writing a review. I know how hard she and the others try to please folks and from what I saw the day I was there, there were some fantastic hairdos by her and others and a lot of very happy, smiling people walking in and out. We should not hesitate to let other potential clients if we've had a bad experience, but remember, that often people try hard to please and when we write negative reviews without even giving someone a chance to make it right, it can ruin a reputation that a salon has worked hard to establish. That's the good and the bad about the internet, and we need to be as responsible as we ask those whom we are reviewing. We hold their businesses in our hands. I'm giving this Salon 4 stars because of Badri one of the lead stylists. I don't know a whole lot about her but two of my best friends go and get their hair done with her and so I thought I would give her a shot. I'm the type of person who doesn't really like a whole lot of chatting when I get my hair done, I think it's awkward and I also get paranoid that the person isn't really focused on what they are doing to my hair. Badri was laser focused with the conversation focused on questions about my hair and tips on what to do with it after I left and how to style it. I got a pretty drastic hair cut for me and I showed her some Pinterest pics of what I was aiming for. She was pretty honest with me on what she can do with my hair and basically the end result was something that was created just for me. I showed up at 8AM and was the only person there until 10:30. She gave me highlights as well so I was there for a while. She took her time and perfected every strand. The cut with highlights was pricey, but I figured how often do I really do this? You really want it to come out right. I really liked her approach and will definitely be returning. Being cash with you for the tip. They accept credit cards but they cannot distribute tips from the total of your appointment. Really clean salon, it was a treat! read more

When I got a Brazilian blowout, she charged me for length - a whopping $50- when my hair was right AT 5 inches. Then, she proceeded to chop my hair off. I feel like if you knew you were going to end up cutting it, the ethical thing is to cut it before you give the Brazilian so you're not charging someone for the length that you immediately cut off. Also, she just says "oh we need to cut this!" and convinces you, without taking the time to mention the extra $50 the TRIM will cost. They take advantage of customers that trust them blindly. I went to another salon to buy the after care products, because I didn't want them to make any more unnecessary profit off of me. read more

I wasn't very happy with the mani/ pedi I got. I had to pay $5 extra for a French manicure, which was fine, but I also had to pay $5 more for better quality polish, including Opi brands, for my toes. I barely had a massage on my legs for the pedi, the bubble machine "spa" fixture took a long time to get working and the woman had to use a sterlized tool to dig around in the bubble connector to get it working. I didn't even get a massage after the mani was finished (it was a shellac). The woman barely spoke to me the whole time - even though she spoke English well so it wasn't a language barrier - and only talked to me to tell me about the specials and discounts, to try to add on services. I just had the mani/ pedi yesterday and already the shellac polish is coming off (it should last for seven to ten days at least, in my experience). This is probably due to the woman asking me to take my hands in and out of the shellac machine before the 2 minute timer was up, for each coat of the mani. I would not come back to this salon nor would I recommend it. read more

I came here for a haircut. I showed a picture and most of the cut experience was ok, nothing special. However stylist really messed up the front/bang area of my hair. Asked for a sideswept bang and instead ended up with a very blunt, short cut made to a chunk of my hair on one side. It looks very bad, I asked her to even it out and make it more of a gradual cut along side my face but nothing made it look better. She then "styled" my hair to cover it up by using velcro rollers all over and just making my hair a big poufy mess, making me look like I'm all dressed up and ready to go out but in a different era. Not the happiest with my cut and trying to figure out how to style it until it grows out since it looks pretty bad.... read more

I purchased a Groupon for Salon Etoiles. I will NEVER go back!!! When I finally made the appointment, Mahnaz did my hair. Because with Groupon, their best stylists are not allowed to work on the person using the Groupon! I purchased it to try the Salon and stylist out, searching for a Salon to get my business, and a good style without paying outrageous prices for so-so style. I even took a photo with me so she would know more about the style I wanted and told her "not too short"!. The photo was nothing like the cut! I had a shoulder length bob, wanted shorter but not as short as it is! My hair is so short, I cannot get my hair around a curling iron! The hair is so short in the back it sticks to my head, like a mens cut!!! The photo had a style so different, about 4-5 inches on top and sides and full, but shorter in length by about 3 "! I was shocked and left thinking it will grow, but didn't realize how short it was and is still, two weeks later! I am so upset about it, considered buying a wig! I am truly so sorry I went to this Salon! Will never go back!!! Be wary if you buy a Groupon for this Salon!!! I also reported it to Groupon. I was treated differently with the Groupon! Not smart!!! I purchased a Groupon for a shampoo/haircut/blowdry. Nasim did a fantastic job and gave me an amazing wavy blowout (I got a TON of compliments). I asked for long layers and some angling without cutting too much off the bottom. And that's exactly what I got! Be aware that if your hair is longer than shoulder length, it's $10 extra. I was planning on getting my hair colored at this location after a friend recommended it. I called and asked if they did balayage, as it was not listed as a service on their website. The receptionist answered the call and forwarded me to a hair stylist. The hair stylist laughed and said balayage was out of style, but they would do it. It was rather insulting. After telling my coworkers about the exchange they agreed. Because of this incident I will not be visiting the salon. If someone is rude after the first phone call I do not feel that I would risk spending my money here. I am very taken aback by the unfriendly customer service. read more

I went back and forth whether to write this review or not. I appreciate the honest reviews I read here from others, so I thought it only fair that I return the favor, but it's not easy not giving a good review. I purchase a Groupon. It was a $35 manicure/pedicure, which is usually what I pay in this area, but I called the salon, and it was explained to me that this would be an extra special spa experience. It was normally priced at $60 - boy this must be great! So, I decide to pay the same price I usually pay, but reasoned I'd be giving myself an extra special treat. I ended up feeling it was more like it was a trick than a treat and here's my dirty low down... I want to begin by saying I enjoyed the atmosphere, and really enjoyed seeing the owner in action. She was beautiful, kind and calm, and I could tell she does amazing hair, and they do threading, so that's cool, but here's my review on the manicure/pedicure side. I was so so ready to relax, but I was seated in a very stiff and uncomfortable chair. This special experience I was very much looking forward to ending up taking over 2 hours, and not because it was an "extra special spa experience" but because the person doing this was very, very, very, very slow. She did not know the first thing about shaping nails. When she cut the sides of my nails to help elevate the pressure, she ended up making the nails a funny shape. I don't know about you, but I love evenly shaped nails. She did not know how to cut cuticles properly; she only grabbed a few stray pieces of skin. When she polished the nails, she did not evenly coat the nail, but instead it was a patchy painting job. Ok, that's a pet peeve of mine.... I hate that! She did not paint the side of my finger nails, claiming this made my nails look longer, but I didn't buy that... that's just silly. So, overall I could see someone liking that place as a hair salon, but unless they upgrade these skills it won't last. I mean I wanted to take that person to any local nail place and show her how in 1 hour nails could be straight, cuticles removed, polished lovely. In my opinion this was nothing short of a disaster, and although I enjoyed the atmosphere this was a joke, and I thought a bit nervy to want to charge $60 for this. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about this salon and Badrie!! I have been a longtime client of hers, and followed her all the way from Andre Chreky in DC. She is the best of the best. I have been going to her for over 5 years, and I trust her to the moon and back. Most of the time I just want a change when I go to see her. When I originally found Badrie at Salon Etoiles I was very happy because I thought I finally had found the right stylist who could accomplish great hair color without brassy tinges. Several months later and several services later she tells me she can't accomplish hair color without brass due to my naturally darker hair color. On multiple occasions I've felt like a nuisance but assumed it was simply her style. On my last visit I scheduled for root color and highlights but ended up with only a much darker root color - she declined to do highlights because she said she didn't have time even though I scheduled for that service. Upon payment she said, "next time ask for me before you schedule appointments". I'm surprised by the response and realize that perhaps there may be a stressful situation in her life making react in such a way. Sadly I will have to find a different hair colorist but luckily there are plenty of stylists to choose from - my business is going elsewhere. read more

I don't know what took me so long to leave this review! I've been going to Salon Etoiles since 2013 and have never been unhappy, and that says a lot. I have had dramatic color changes and drastic changes in length and Badri has left me feeling like a million bucks each time. The salon is clean, cozy, the music is always great, and service is consistently good and prompt. These ladies are real professionals who will always be honest about what your hair is really capable- don't expect to come in a brunette and leave a platinum blonde in one appointment, and they'll tell you that straight up. I have sent a few of my girlfriends to Badri and Salon Etoiles and I don't think any of them have been disappointed either, because they keep going back! I have been going to this salon for threading, which I love, for years. Baharak does a wonderful job. She is very friendly and professional. The salon is in a good location and has easy parking. The other girls are great and I enjoy going. Today Baharak gave me a facial. I haven't had one in a long time but have had plenty of facials over the years. She was Amazing!! It was an hour of relaxation, massage and facial. It was one of the best facials I have had. I left feeling relaxed and my face looked and felt fabulous. I have sensitive skin and the weather is so cold it has felt dry. When I left the salon today my skin felt the best that it has in days. I thought the price was very reasonable. I purchased a Groupon for 2 gel manicures. I scheduled my first manicure and everything went great. I surrendered my groupon and scheduled my second gel manicure for three weeks later. While I was there, the front desk person offered another customer tea with a dirty cup, then forgot to give her a new cup of tea. The gel manicure was the receptionist and had to leave my manicure a couple of times to tend to other customers, along with checking people in. The manicure itself, took an hour and a half, which is excessively long for a simple gel manicure. The gel manicure itself only last 2 days before chipping which was disappointing. Also, when the day of the 2nd manicure was scheduled, I called to reschedule due to unforseen circumstances. I called and was rudely informed that I would lose the groupon and they had a strict policy. That was after making my hold for 3 minutes. Honestly, this salon is poorly ran and extremely inefficient. Don't go there unless you have hours to be ignored and not treated properly. read more

I found this place as a combination of Groupon and reviews. I emailed them to see if they had any availability that day, so that I could decide whether or not to buy the Groupon for me and my mom. About 30 seconds after emailing them, Badrie called me and said both my mom and I could get our haircuts that day, and that they would honor the Groupon discount without the need to purchase it. I have long hair and needed a trim, my mom wanted a short boy-cut. Badrie cut my hair perfectly, she listened and did exactly what I asked, but 10 times better than what I asked for :) She took her time, massaged my hair, dried and cut it meticulously, straightened it, used a few products and curlers to add volume to my thin and flat hair... I was so happy to have chosen this place because I am new to this area and didn't think anyone could compete with my previous hairdresser (who got her annual training in London) of 10 years. My mom is very picky and gets what she asks for 1 out of 100 times when it comes to her haircut. We showed Mahnaz an old picture in which my mom had the exact haircut that she wanted (she usually got it when she went back home to Europe, but rarely here). Mahnaz recreated it perfectly.
