I can't say enough wonderful things about Celeste and her salon. I've been getting my hair highlighted/balayaged my whole life, have seen countless stylists, and I've unfortunately had plenty of experiences where I've walked out of the salon unhappy. That has never happened with Celeste. She takes the time to understand you, your hair, and exactly what you're looking for. She has an amazing intuition when it comes to hair and somehow just gets what will work for you. She will always makes sure you feel comfortable and confident before you leave her chair. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her clients and takes a lot of pride in what she does. Also her salon is gorgeous and you'll feel like you just stepped into a boutique hotel when you walk inside. It's such a relaxing, pretty environment you won't want to leave. I've since moved out of Hoboken and could absolutely find a stylist closer to home, but for the past 7 years I choose to drive an hour to continue seeing Celeste. When my longtime, high-end NYC stylist retired, I spent nearly a full year looking for an equally skilled stylist. After many starts and stops, I was so relieved to land at Salon Phoenix with Celeste. Celeste's salon is beautiful and calming, and I look forward to just being in the space for my appointment because it is just so lovely. As a stylist, Celeste is second to none, and I have been most impressed with they way she considers and understands each individual client's hair and serves as a teacher of sorts when I sit in her chair and tell her what I think I want to do. She will explain to me why it may or may not be the best thing for my texture, face shape, etc., and really helps me understand the cut and style she is going to give so that I can replicate the look at home. I'm someone who likes to change up my hair frequently, sometimes experimenting with trendy cuts, and Celeste is right there with me. She makes the changes incrementally during the appointment, even if it takes more time, so that she is sure to get it right. For instance, she may start by cutting my hair while it's dry to make sure she is getting the shape that I am hoping for and will ask me in stages if I like it and if, for example, I want to go a little shorter or take a little more bulk away from a certain area. I have never had a stylist take such careful consideration of all the factors that impact the outcome of a haircut. Everyone has sat in a chair before in a panic because the stylist is just going their own way and maybe taking more hair off then you wanted. That would never happen with Celeste. She is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, and she also has a very refined sense of the emotional connection between a woman and her hair. I went with one of the suggestions but didn't like the end result. The toner that hairdresser used changed the color of my roots, and I realized it as time went by. I booked a single process with Celeste last week so I could go over my hair issues and hopefully a plan to get it back to a better place after a combination of bad dye jobs, horrendous cuts and hormonal issues. Great new salon in midtown Hoboken. The owner Celeste has done a fantastic job with creating a relaxing space that has a rustic uber chic charm. My stylist for the evening was Sasha and she did a super job on my single process and blow out. They were able to accommodate me at short notice and I left looking and feeling refreshed. Sasha was easy to work with and everyone else I spoke to at the salon was really nice and friendly. Honestly, I don't have the patience for snobby stylists and that's something that really puts me off! None of that here....the folks are thorough professionals and nice to be around. While all the other products they use at the salon (shampoo etc.,) are organic, the hair color they use is Wella. I'm happy with the way my hair looks and feels and the blowout Sasha gave me has held up well after 24 hours. Single process is $65 and a blowout is an additional $30 - it would be great if the blow out was included as part of the color treatment. First timers get 15% off. read more

I moved to Hoboken about a year ago and was nervous to find a new salon. I loved DePasquale in Morris Plains but it's too inconvenient to get to now. I heard about Salon Phoenix on Monroe from a friend and decided to try it out in March 2016. I had an appointment with Monica for a cut and hair painting - a little pricey from what I'm used to but first-timers get 15% off. My rating doesn't reflect the talent or vibe of the salon. It's strictly based on if I would go back - and the answer is no. I absolutely loved the decor of the salon. Very cute and relaxing. There's only 3 chairs in the salon so it was cozy and personable. I love the "no kids" rule; let's face it no one wants to hear children while their getting pampered. Monica was very sweet and we carried a natural conversation the whole time. The cut was great! Frankly I didn't like the product they used to color my hair. The technique doesn't involve saran wrap but rather dries up on your head. It was flaking a little but no biggie. I HATED the way it dried out my hair in the following weeks. It felt brittle even after deep conditioning it. This is really the only reason I wouldn't go back. I wish they would change the product because everything else was great. read more
