I've been seeing Emmi for over 3 years, during which she's helped me live out all my hair dreams. Emmi has transformed my hair from short ash blonde and seamless balayages, to healthy, long hair (blonde Christine from 5 years ago never could have fathomed this). I followed her to My Darling Ivy from her previous salon, and she has gone on such a hair journey with me - when I met her, I was growing out my natural brown. We went from balayage to bangs to BLONDE, baby! I love, love, love the way she colors my hair - and I get compliments alllllll the time. I am currently rocking this shaggy look and it's my favorite. Obsessed with this salon and Konnor. Waking into the salon, you know you're in for an experience. You are greeted immediately with a kind receptionist and able to make yourself right at home. The space is close to Chelsea market, modern and clean. I have done extensions, tape, color and highlights with Konnor and have each time been wowed. Short version: I love My Darling Ivy and highly recommend it to anyone who loves themselves and their hair. So much so that I have not found anyone else to touch my hair even though I now live in Singapore. The first thing I did when I came to NYC was to make an appointment to have my hair done by Manny (one of the owners). More details: I have entrusted Manny with making my hair dreams come true for a couple of years now and I absolutely trust and adore him, his work ethic, and his team. From getting cuts, to a full head of hot pinks/purples, to highlights that grow out looking as fresh as they looked when I walked out of the salon, my experiences with Manny and his team have always been 100% positive. I'm one of those people who has a faint idea of what I want, but need a Creative partner who can take that seed and grow it into clear ways on how to take it to the next level. Manny is that person. He is intuitive, gentle (don't let his looks fool you!), a good listener, super creative, multi-talented, and humble. Yup, you guessed it - he's a unicorn. The first time I had a consultation with him, I mentioned that I wanted to change my hair color to something that suits my personality. In just a few mins, he got my vibe and suggested something I was thinking about but hadn't mentioned (hot pink - which my previous hairstylist from another salon told me that it was not possible to achieve with my hair). Not only did he recommend it, Manny achieved it beyond what I expected. He gave the color more dimension by adding some purples to the pink. I would've never thought of that on my own - but that's what I mean by Manny being a wonderful creative partner who not only reads your vibe, but makes hair dreams come true beyond one's imagination. Manny also gives back - he and his team support WISE, an Organization for women in self-employment, working mainly with low income self-employed women and girls. He also makes time to teach in Ethiopia to support local communities, and is in the process of setting up a School of Cosmetology in Uganda. Manny and his team have created a gorgeous salon - minimal, yet warm and comfortable. Nothing pretentious or intimidating - just think of going to your friend's studio that's stylish. Review for CECIL DIAZ - he's awesome! I have dark brown/black hair and wanted a change, so I went in looking for some highlights. Cecil presented me with a few options, and got to know me. I was looking for something a little fun that I hadn't done before with my hair. I ended up getting a whole new look which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! I expected a few foils, but I wound up with a whole reddish tint to my hair with a few bright reddish/purple pieces. I have a whole new super fun look! Salon itself was great as well - they took my jacket, offered me some coffee and was always checking to see if the water temp was ok/if I needed anything. Will go back for touch ups! I always go to get my hair cut by Alessandra Paez (Ali). She understands my hair texture, and she really listens to what I want. Ali has been cutting my hair for years and I've gone through multiple styles (pixie, super short with shaved/faded sides, shoulder length bob), and no matter what, her work is consistently beautiful. She just recently started here at My Darling Ivy, and while I would've followed her to any salon she went to, I'm glad she's here. The salon is bright, open, very clean (the bathroom even has individual hand towels), and everyone is wearing masks. Everyone I speak to is just so nice. Great experience overall. read more

When they lifted the shutdown for salons, I was desperately looking for a salon I felt safe in. My Darling Ivy is super clean and all the staff is very friendly. The best part is Emmi, my hairstylist. I love her and I almost don't want to write this review because I won't be able to get an appointment! Prior to Konnor, I bounced between salons/stylists because I never felt like I had found "the one," but thankfully he changed all of that for me!! My blonde hair is no longer damaged and brassy. This review is for Mark Bustos one of the owners and top stylists. Mark is a true professional and stellar hair stylist. To start, the salon is well spaced out and they follow safety regulations down to a every detail - I really felt safe and comfortable there. The space is modern, super clean, and new. Mark really takes his time to understand and know what you're looking for initially and then even as the first haircut goes along. He has a great understanding of hair overall which you can tell is built through experience, but I really appreciate that he took so much time getting to know my hair given that everyone is different. He gave me some advice on some adjustments on what I used to ask for that would help my hair grow out better and he was absolutely right. After about 4-5 sessions, Mark cuts my hair like clockwork and trust him completely. I definitely recommend him and My Darling Ivy. Just go, you won't regret it. read more
