I love this place and have been getting my hair done here for years. I go to Heather who is a specialist in short hair and gives me something cool, fun and interesting every time. I have also been here for color but I followed that colorist her new location. Overall you know that if you come here you were going to get some high-quality work done because they have their staff go through extensive training programs and it really shows. When you come here you really feel like you get the royal treatment and they take care of you by taking your coat, offering your drink and give you a changing room to put the rope on. Then you have a consultation and go for your wash it. It's also nice because a lot of the spaces have nice views looking out into the city. The whole salon is fabulous but Arthur is beyond fabulous for highlights. I am a mature woman and his highlights beautifully hide my gray. He strategically places them so it frames my face as well as camouflages the gray as it grows in. And, Arthur is a lovely, positive person. A pleasure to converse with as I sit in his chair. I have a short pixie and had such a hard time finding someone good with pixie styles and Heather is the best I've had since going short. If you have a pixie or want one... HEATHER! I thought a guy's review would help. I have been going to Alan since the early 2000s, whenever they opened, since I had an office in the same building at the time. Their service is impeccable. Alan gives the best haircuts by far that I have ever gotten, and I have lived in NY, LA, Boston and London over the years. My hair is curly/wavy and tends to grow up as much as it grows down, and I still have all of it in my 50s. Think Kyle in South Park without the hat and you get the picture. I walk into their salon looking like latter episodes Greg Brady and walk out with a great haircut. Alan also knows the latest styles so I am not walking around with a 2003 haircut. I stopped going for about a year because I didn't find myself in Manhattan so much, and I cannot tell you the lousy haircuts I got other places. Maybe I am spoiled because Alan is a hair meister. Tosler Davis is beautiful and the vibe super welcoming across the board. I had previously hopped around from salon to salon, but now I've found my place and two talented professionals (and lovely individuals) who get my thick curly/wavy, frizzy hair! Arthur is truly an artist when it comes to color. I had never dyed my hair before seeing Arthur--a little nervous to take the plunge--but now I do so consistently because it's so much fun. He knows how to apply the color so that it works with my curls. I'm constantly finding new ringlets of color and dimension. The color grows with my hair--I get compliments on it even like 8 weeks later. Arthur always asks what I'm looking to do, but I let him do his thing, because it's always great! I was introduced to Jess earlier this year, and now I'm a loyal fan! Before, my hair would dry up and look all over the place upon first wash after a cut, but Jess knows which questions to ask and how curly hair works, dries, and grows. Got a haircut from Patty and she did an awful job. She left my hair looking extremely choppy so I went back to get it fixed. She then razor cut my very thick hair (which is pretty much the worst thing one could do). I stopped her and just went home. If you have thick, straight hair that is even remotely ethnic, don't go get it ruined here. I've had better haircuts in Queens and Harlem for $15 from stylists that actually understand thick hair. read more

As you may suspect I was very nervous and skeptical. Blonde is so easy to mess up!! I made an appointment with Sonia off the advice of a friend.. she was not blonde so I was still nervous. I arrived to their location went up the elevator to walk into a cute salon. Sonia walked over to me with a smile and I already felt relieved. She was very welcoming and warm (and has great hair!) She was very thorough to ask me what I have had in the past and what I wanted. I told her I typically do a full head of highlights. She said she'd like to with a little natural look on me and I said sure ( I was going for a small change). We chatted while she foiled up my hair she truly was a pleasure. There is no other salon for me in NYC. Simply put-they rock. The products they use are really high quality-furier, goldwell, etc. The beauticians are really talented and understand how to work with all kinds of curly hair. The ambiance is beautiful--lots of space, clean lines, nice ventilation, nice view over 5th avenue. The service is perfect. After trying out a bunch of salons in Brooklyn and NY--I grew accustomed to alot of mediocre service--alot of mistakes, mishaps, and general poor quality. I saw Sonia yesterday and seriously need to get this 5* review out there. She freshened me up with 1/2 head highlights while also touching up my roots with single-process color. OK, seriously? This turned out to be one of if not THEE best highlighting jobs I've ever had. She was able to quickly asses my current hair situation and immediately whip up exactly the right highlighting formulation, woven in perfect foils, and followed up with nice glaze. And then...Keri washed me up and gave me a truly fabulous blow-out. She has a great, methodical blow-out style which resulted in really beautiful, natural, bouncy hair that has lasted more than a day now, and will probably stay that way until I give in and wash it. I had my Goldwell formula in hand and, on the basis of other Yelpers, booked an appointment with Sonia for color and Patty for cut. The staff are all lovely and unpretentious. Both Sonia and Patty were excellent and very easy to talk to, They were happy to follow my existing color and cut. Other than the sticker price shock (standard for Manhattan) I had a great experience. I also learned that after just color (no cut) the blow dry is included in the price. So I get my hair cut once a year. I have gone to the same woman since I was thirteen. Well one day I really really wanted a hair cut, and guess what- she was on vacation! So I checked out Allure magazine and found out about Patty. And she was decently priced, especially for NYC. And a few blocks away from work. So i made the appt and she fit me in that night. WOOHOO. She did a great job and it was the absolute best blow out I have ever gotten. (I'm really sorry but that is so dirty, I wish there was another way to say it) A year later, no joke, I went in looking for a bob. I have had long hair for 10 years. Trims once yearly. She cut off 10 ish inches (I had gone crazy and cut off a few myself the week before). She was honest about the fact that a cut above my collarbone might not look the most flattering because i have super thick hair. One happy day at the MAC store, one of the make up artists there handed me a card and said you have to go see Albert Naglieri. I have been eternally grateful. Masterful at his art - he takes the time to get everything right. My color is my signature. I'm a performer, and this is soooo important. I get stopped on the street by people who compliment my hair color (most who think it's my NATURAL color). I always say it's the color god intended, but Albert makes happen. Not only was she professional, and easy to speak with, but she made the appointment so custom to what I wanted and to my my hair texture. I got my haircut here for the first time a few weeks ago and it was great. This was my first time at Tosler Davis but not my first time getting my hair cut by Mary. The salon is really nice with friendly staff and an cool layout. This was my first visit to this salon and Sonia is by far the best hairdresser that has worked on my hair! I had experienced a botched color job leaving my hair orange, I attempted to do a diy and placed a color on top (which worked temporary). My hair was a mixture of yellow, orange, dark blonde and blonde for months. Terrible-I know. It looked artificial and my hair was starting to lose its appeal. Sonia did highlights, darkened my base and put a gloss and I looked like a whole new person afterwards! She worked wonders and was delightful to speak to. She addressed all of my concerns and patiently listened to what I had envisioned. The staff here was also very pleasant, asking me if I needed anything while my hair color was processing. I made an appointment with Heather (based on Yelp reviews) and she gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. When I lost more hair, I decided to cut it short short and that cut was even better.
